How do we catch ourselves when we are disconnected from source (God)?

Our emotions are an indicator as to how well we are connected to our source (God). When we are in positive emotion such as joy, appreciation, empowerment, love, enthusiasm, optimism, etc, we are well connected to our source. In other words when we are connected to source, we feel really good. This is because the vibration we are offering is a match to the vibration of source. On the other hand, when we are in negative emotion such as depression, fear, grief, powerlessness, insecurity, guilt, unworthiness, envy, anger, hatred, blame, worry, doubt, frustration etc, we are disconnected to our source. In other words, when we are disconnected with source, we do not feel very good. This is because the vibration that we are offering with our thoughts is not match to the vibration of source.
The more agitated the mind, the harder it is to catch ourselves and turn around the negative emotion as it is happening. A person undergoing extreme negative emotion loses awareness of his actions - the mind gets carried away by the thoughts and reacts. During this time, the function of the intellect is lost. After the mind has reacted and the person gains some normal awareness, the intellect starts questioning the mind about it’s actions. This is when we feel guilty, regret our actions or otherwise try to justify it by blaming external circumstances.
It is a matter of training the mind. Normally, we start off being slaves to our minds - we are completely identified with our minds, and blindly follow the actions that our minds tell us to perform. The more we meditate and grow spiritually, the calmer the mind becomes. People who meditate frequently are able to observe their minds as if they are observing a movie. They are able to experience their minds completely separate from themselves. This separation of the mind from ourselves gives us valuable time before the minds turns too negative. The intellect becomes aware of the state of the mind and automatically sends positive thoughts to the mind to calm it down. The more connected to source we usually are, the more we become aware of any temporary disconnection from source. This automatic observing and controlling the mind can be tough in the beginning, however it gets easier as we progress on the path.
