Life lessons - An Inspirational Story - By Fatimah Musa
Jushi was physically abused as a child. She lived with a mother who was diagnosed with post depression and a father who was a wife abuser.
Her parent divorced and left six of them with her mother. She left school at 15 and went to work waiting tables to help her mother feed them all.
At 18 she met and fell in love and was married soon after. Then she found out that her husband drank too much, slept around with other women, a wife abuser and took drugs. She was divorced at age 20 with two children. Her husband took their son away and handed him to his friend. He was sent to jail for an offence with the law.
Her husband's friend did not want to hand the boy over to her and demanded money in exchange. The child had scars on his chest due to burnt from cigarette butts. That was what he got for crying out for food.
She finally managed to get her son back. She left her children in her mother's care while she left to find a job.
At 28 she had an accident. Her dress caught fire and she suffered 2nd degree burns.
With that her self-esteem and self-confidence went down the pit. She was depressed. She attempted suicides several times and was given psychiatric treatments.
After a major surgery and lots of counseling and support from relatives and friends, she started her life all over again even with one partly deformed hand and fingers.
Her anxiety was all the time still present. It was tougher to find a job. She felt like a disabled person.
The one thing that kept her going in spite of her misfortune was her will to be able to feed herself and sent money for her children. She did not want to ask for financial support.
At 38 she was diagnosed with cancer of the cervix. That was a big blow to her. She went through another depression episode.
"Why me?" was the question she repeatedly asked. Of course when she asked that question, she got all the wrong answers. She felt more depressed. She blamed her father, her mother and everyone for what brought her sufferings. Worst, she blamed herself.
She agreed to go for the treatments, chemotherapy and cesium, because she did not want to go through the pains.
This was when she took the time to look within her. She thought that she might not live long enough so she decided to reconnect with her children. It was not easy especially with her son who had gone through his own childhood trauma.
She turned to her family for moral support and she turned to God.
Now eight years later, she is still alive. Waking up and able to breathe for another day is a gift for her.
She has two grandchildren whom she adores and that give her much joy. She takes some jobs every now and then when her health permits and rests when she needs it.
Her question has changed. She now asks what is it she could do to get more out of what is left?
Things happen and happen to us all. Life does not play favorites. Everyone has a story to tell.
It is how we handle it that matters. We do not have to wait until a major catastrophe interrupts us to think of what we should do with our lives.
It is up to us to make or break us. No one can tell our brain and mind what to do. No one can tell us what to think of and what to put inside our head.
We have the power to think what we want to think. To forget past hurts or to linger with them.
We can decide, plan and take action on what we want to have, do or be. At least when the universe intervenes, we know that we have done our best.

"Everything Happens For a Reason"
Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, they serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You never know who these people may be; your roommate, your neighbor, professor, long lost friend, lover or even a complete stranger who, when you lock eyes with them, you know that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.
And sometimes things happen to you and at the time they seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles you would never have realized your potential, strength, will power of heart.
Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments or true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of the soul.
Without these small tests, if they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would be like a smooth paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. Safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless.
The people you meet who affect your life and successes and downfalls you experience, they are the ones who create who you are. Even the bad experience can be learned from... Those lessons are the hardest and probably the most important ones.
If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart... forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart.
If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.
Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen, let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high. You can make of your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.
I wish you all the best in your endeavors as well as struggles in life. Have a fighting spirit and never hesitate to get back in the struggle!

Do You Feel There is No Hope
In your times of deep despair,
Do you feel there is no hope?
As the darkness closes in on you,
Do you feel you cannot cope?
As you struggle on through every trial,
Do you say "When will it end"?
As you cry yourself to sleep at night,
Do you wish you had a friend?
When your body's racked with aches and pains,
Do you feel you are alone?
When you think about the future,
Do you fear the great unknown?
There is someone who really cares,
And He hears your every cry.
His arms are reaching out to you,
And on Him you can rely.
When things close in around you,
He sees your fear and doubt -
He wants to hold you in His arms,
And He will never cast you out.
As you stumble through the darkness,
He will be your guiding light.
He wants to wipe away your tears,
For you are precious in His sight.
Reach out right now to Sai,
And let Him take complete control -
He'll take that heavy burden,
And He'll touch and make you whole.
He's reaching out His arms to you,
And He wants to be your friend.
Let Him take you in His loving arms,
For His love will never end.

Two frogs
A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them
fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit
was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The
two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit
with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop,
that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took
heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down
and died.
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again,
the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the
other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to
them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the
entire time.
This story teaches two lessons:
1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging
word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it
through the day.
2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes
to kill them.
Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your
path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand
that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak
words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in
difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time
to encourage another.

Sand and Stone
A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE."
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one, who had been slapped, got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After the friend recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

JUST SAY...
A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.
'Your son is here,' she said to the old man.
She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened.
Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.
The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed.All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile.
He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.
Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.
Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.
Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.
'Who was that man?' he asked.
The nurse was startled, 'He was your father,' she answered.
'No, he wasn't,' the Marine replied. 'I never saw him before in my life.'
'Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?'
'I knew right away there had been a mistake,
but I also knew he needed his son, and his
son just wasn't here.
When I realized that he was too sick to tell
whether or not I was his son,
knowing how much he needed me, I stayed.'
The next time someone needs you ... just be there. Stay.

The value of Love
A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them.
She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."
"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.
"No", she said. "He's out."
"Then we cannot come in", they replied.
In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"
The woman went out and invited the men in.
"We do not go into a House together," they replied.
"Why is that?" she wanted to know.
One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love."
Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."
The woman went in and told her husband what was said.
Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!",
he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"
Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the
house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be
better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!"
"Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is
Love? Please come in and be our guest."
Love got up and started walking toward the house.
The other 2 also got up and followed him.
Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"
The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him.
Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!"

Great inspiring stories Tanu.
Keep it up. God's Positive Answers is wonderful. We might be weak, But not Thy. Nothing is impossible for him. It is we who fear to ask to grant our wish, because most of the times we know, What we are asking might be wrong in his eyes or against Law of nature/Karma, But only our Materialistic Desire.

Little girl and her father were crossing a bridge. The father was kind
of scared so he asked his little daughter, "Sweetheart, please hold my
hand so that you don't fall into the river."
The little girl said, "No, Dad. You hold my hand."
"What's the difference?" Asked the puzzled father.
"There's a big difference," replied the little girl. "If I hold your hand
and something happens to me, chances are that I may let your hand go.
But if you hold my hand, I know for sure that no matter what happens, you
will never let my hand go."
In any relationship, the essence of trust is not in its bind, but in its
bond. So hold the hand of the person whom you love rather than
expecting them to hold yours...

Selfless Love
My wife called, "How long will you be poring over that newspaper? Will you come here and make your darling daughter eat her food?"
I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene. My only daughter, Sindu, looked frightened. Tears were welling up in her eyes. In front of her was a bowl filled to its brim with Curd Rice.
Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age. She has just turned eight. She particularly detested Curd Rice. My mother and my wife are orthodox, and believe firmly in the 'cooling effects' of Curd Rice! I cleared my throat, and picked up the bowl.
"Sindu, darling, why don't you take a few mouthfuls of this Curd Rice? Just for Dad's sake, dear? And, if you don't, your Mom will shout at me."
I could sense my wife's scowl behind my back. Sindu softened a bit, and wiped her tears with the back of her hands.
"OK, Dad. I will eat - not just a few mouthfuls, but the whole lot of this. But, you should…" Sindu hesitated, "Dad, if I eat this entire curd Rice, will you give me whatever I ask for?"
Oh sure, darling'.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with mine and clinched the deal.
"Ask Mom also to give a similar promise", my daughter insisted.
My wife slapped her hand on Sindu's, muttering, "Promise", without any emotion.
Now I became a bit anxious.
"Sindu dear, you shouldn't insist on getting a computer or any such expensive items. Dad does not have that kind of money right now. OK?"
"No, Dad. I do not want anything expensive."
Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity. I was silently angry with my wife and my mother for forcing my child to eat something that she detested.
After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes wide with expectation. All our attention was on her.
"Dad, I want to have my hair shaved off, this Sunday!' was her demand.
"Atrocious!" shouted my wife, "A girl child having her hair shaved off? Impossible!"
"Never in our family!" my mother rasped. "She has been watching too much television. Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV programs!"
"Sindu darling, why don't you ask for something else? We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head."
"No, Dad. I do not want anything else", Sindu said with finality.
"Please, Sindu, why don't you try to understand our feelings?" I tried to plead with her.
"Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd Rice." Sindu was in tears. "And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for. Now, you are going back on your words. Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra, and its moral that we should honor our promises no matter what?"
It was time for me to call the shots. "Our promise must be kept."
"Are you out your mind?" chorused my mother and wife.
"No. If we go back on our promises, she will never learn to honor her own. Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled."
With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her eyes looked big and beautiful. On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school. It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards her classroom. She turned around and waved. I waved back with a smile.
Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted, "Sinduja, please wait for me!"
What struck me was the hairless head of that boy. Maybe, that is the in-stuff, I thought.
"Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!"
Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car and continued.
"That boy who is walking along with your daughter is my son Harish. He is suffering from leukemia." She paused to muffle her sobs. "Harish could not attend school for the whole of the last month. He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the chemotherapy. He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional but cruel teasing of the schoolmates. Sinduja visited him last week and promised him that she would take care of the teasing issue. But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair for the sake of my son! Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul as your daughter."
I stood transfixed and then, I wept.
"My little Angel, you are teaching me how selfless real love is!"

GENEROSITY
Mahatma Gandhi went from city to city, village to village collecting funds for the Charkha Sangh. During one of his tours he addressed a meeting in Orissa. After his speech a poor old woman got up. She was bent with age, her hair was grey and her clothes were in tatters. The volunteers tried to stop her, but she fought her way to the place where Gandhiji was sitting. "I must see him," she insisted and going up to Gandhiji touched his feet. Then from the folds of her sari she brought out a copper coin and placed it at his feet. Gandhiji picked up the copper coin and put it away carefully. The Charkha Sangh funds were under the charge of Jamnalal Bajaj. He asked Gandhiji for the coin but Gandhiji refused. "I keep cheques worth thousands of rupees for the Charkha Sangh," Jamnalal Bajaj said laughingly "yet you won't trust me with a copper coin." "This copper coin is worth much more than those thousands," Gandhiji said. "If a man has several lakhs and he gives away a thousand or two, it doesn't mean much. But this coin was perhaps all that the poor woman possessed. She gave me all she had. That was very generous of her. What a great sacrifice she made. That is why I value this copper coin more than a crore of rupees."

Touching life story.....
A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For
many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's
showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told
him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited
signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the
morning of his graduation his father called him into his private
study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine
son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son
a beautiful wrapped gift box.
Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man
opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible. Angrily,
he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you
give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy
book.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in
business.
He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his
father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He
had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make
arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had
passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He
needed to come home immediately and take care things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and
regret filled his heart.
He began to search his father's important papers and
saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With
tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he
read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope
taped behind the Bible.
It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the
sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation,
and the words...PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not
packaged as we expected?

DON'T WE ALL
I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come
from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of work.
Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would
consider a bum.
From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no
money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times
that you just don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "don't
want to be bothered times."
"I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought.
He didn't.
He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop but he didn't look
like he could have enough money to even ride the bus.
After a few minutes he spoke.
"That's a very pretty car," he said.
He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. His scraggly
blond beard keep more than his face warm.
I said, "thanks," and continued wiping off my car.
He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money never
came.
As the silence between us widened something inside said, "ask him if
he needs any help." I was sure that he would say "yes" but I held true
to the inner voice.
"Do you need any help?" I asked.
He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget.
We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from
those of higher learning and accomplishments.
I expected nothing but an
outstretched grimy hand. He spoke the three words that shook me.
"Don't we all?" he said.
I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a bum
in the street, until those three words hit me like a twelve gauge
shotgun.
Don't we all?
I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I
needed help. I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus
fare, but enough to get a warm meal and shelter for the day. Those
three little words still ring true. No matter how much you have, no matter
how much you have accomplished, you need help too. No matter how little you
have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, even without money or
a place to sleep, you can give help.
Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that.
You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all.
They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have. A different
perspective on life, a glimpse at something beautiful, a respite from
daily chaos, that only you through a torn world can see.
Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe
he was more than that.
Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and
wise, to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves.
Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum, then said, "go minister to that man cleaning the car, that man needs help."
Don't we all?

Children loved visiting Gandhiji. A little boy who was there one day, was greatly distressed to see the way Gandhiji was dressed. Such a great man yet he doesn't even wear a shirt, he wondered. "Why don't you wear a kurta, Gandhiji?" the little boy couldn't help asking finally. "Where's the money, son?" Gandhiji asked gently. "I am very poor. I can't afford a kurta." The boy's heart was filled with pity. "My mother sews well", he said. "She makes all my clothes. I'll ask her to sew a Kurta for you." "How many Kurtas can your mother make?" Gandhiji asked.
"How many do you need?" asked the boy. "One, two, three.... she'll make as many as you want." Gandhiji thought for a moment. Then he said, "But I am not alone, son. It wouldn't be right for me to be the only one to wear a kurta." "How many Kurtas do you need?" the boy persisted. "I'll ask my mother to make as many as you want. Just tell me how many you need." "I have a very large family, son. I have forty crore brothers and sisters," Gandhiji explained. "Till every one of them has a kurta, how can I wear one? Tell me, can your mother make kurtas for all of them? At this question the boy became very thoughtful. Forty crore brothers and sisters! Gandhiji was right. Till every one of them had a kurta to wear how could he wear one himself? After all the whole nation was Gandhiji's family, and he was the head of that family. He was their friend, their companion. What use would one kurta be to him?

After Gandhiji's return from South Africa, a meeting of the Congress was held in Bombay. Kaka Saheb Kalelkar went there to help. One day Kaka Saheb found Gandhiji anxiously searching around his desk. "What's the matter? What are you looking for?" Kaka Saheb asked. "I've lost my pencil," Gandhiji answered. "It was only so big."
Kaka Saheb was upset to see Gandhiji wasting time and worrying about a little pencil. He took out his pencil and offered it to him. "No, no, I want my own little pencil," Gandhiji insisted like a stubborn child.
"Well, use it for the time being," said Kaka Saheb. "I'll find your pencil later. Don't waste time looking for it now."
"You don't understand. That little pencil is very precious to me," Gandhiji insisted. "Natesan's little son gave it to me in Madras. He gave it with so much love and affection. I cannot bear to lose it." Kaka Saheb didn't argue any more. He joined Gandhiji in the search. At last they found it-a tiny piece, barely two inches long. But Gandhiji was delighted to get it back. To him it was no ordinary pencil. It was the token of a child's love and to Gandhiji a child's love was very precious.

This incident occurred in Noakhali. After the Hindu-Muslim riots Gandhiji toured the area on foot to reassure and comfort the people. He would set off from a village soon after dawn and arrive at the next village after sunset. On arrival he would first attend to his work then he would take a bath. Gandhiji used a rough stone to clean his feet. Miraben had given this stone to him many years ago and Gandhiji had kept it carefully ever since. He took it with him everywhere. One evening after they had arrived at a village and Manu was getting Gandhiji's bath ready, she noticed that the stone was missing. She looked everywhere but could not find it. She told Gandhiji that the stone was lost and added, "It must have been left behind at the weaver's where we stayed yesterday. What should I do now?" Gandhiji thought for a moment. Then he said, "Go and fetch the stone. If you suffer once, you'll not forget another time." "Can I take someone with me?" Manu asked. "Why?" questioned Gandhiji. Manu was silent. She did not want to admit that she was frightened to go alone. The road to the village lay through forests of betelnut and coconut and it was easy to lose one's way. Besides, Manu was barely sixteen years old and she had never gone anywhere alone. But she could not think of an answer. So Manu took the path they had taken earlier in the day. Carefully following the old footprints she managed to reach the village and find the weaver's house. The old woman who lived there recognised her and welcomed her warmly. Tired and rather irritated Manu told her why she had come. But how was the old woman to have known that that bit of stone was so valuable? She had thrown it away with the rubbish. They both began to search for it. At last much to Manu's joy they found it. Many had left the house at 7.30 in the morning. By the time she returned it was past one in the afternoon. She had walked nearly fifteen miles. Worn out, hungry and irritated she went straight to Gandhiji and put the stone in the lap. Then she burst into tears. "This stone was a real test for you," Gandhiji told her gently. "Do you know that this stone has been with me for the last twenty-five years. It has gone with me everywhere, from jails to mansions. I can easily get another stone like it, but I wanted you to learn that it is bad to be careless." "I've never prayed as hard as I did today," said Manu. "I want to make women brave and fearless", Gandhiji said. "Today not only you but I too learnt a lesson." Manu did not say anything but she must have thought Gandhiji's methods were very unusual.

Mohan was very shy. As soon as the school bell rang, he collected his books and hurried home. Other boys chatted and stopped on the way; some to play, others to eat, but Mohan always went straight home. He was afraid that the boys might stop him and make fun of him. One day, the Inspector of Schools, Mr Giles, came to Mohan's school. He read out five English words to the class and asked the boys to write them down. Mohan wrote four words correctly, but he could not spell the fifth word `Kettle'. Seeing Mohan's hesitation, the teacher made a sign behind the Inspector's back that he should copy the word from his neighbour's slate. But Mohan ignored his signs. The other boys wrote all the five words correctly; Mohan wrote only four. After the Inspector left, the teacher scolded him. "I told you to copy from your neighbour," he said angrily. "Couldn't you even do that correctly?" Every one laughed. As he went home that evening, Mohan was not unhappy. He knew he had done the right thing. What made him sad was that his teacher should have asked him to cheat.

The night was very dark and Mohan was frightened. He had always been afraid of ghosts. Whenever he was alone in the dark, he was afraid that a ghost lurking in some dark corner would suddenly spring on him. And tonight it was so dark that one could barely see one's own hand. Mohan had to go from one room to another. As he stepped out of the room, his feet seemed to turn to lead and his heart began to beat like a drum. Rambha, their old maidservant was standing by the door. "What's the matter, son?" she asked with a laugh.
"I am frightened, Dai," Mohan answered.
"Frightened, child! Frightened of what?"
"See how dark it is! I'm afraid of ghosts!" Mohan whispered in a terrified voice. Rambha patted his head affectionately and said, "Whoever heard of anyone being afraid of dark! Listen to me: Think of Rama and no ghost will dare come near you. No one will touch a hair of your head. Rama will protect you." Rambha's words gave Mohan courage. Repeating the name of Rama, he left the room. And from that day, Mohan was never lonely or afraid. He believed that as long as Rama was with him, he was safe from the danger. This faith gave Gandhiji strength throughout his life, and even when he died the name of Rama was on his lips.

Fifteen Things God Won’t Ask
God won’t ask what kind of car you drove, but will ask how many people you drove who didn’t have transportation.
God won’t ask the square footage of your house, but will ask how many people you welcomed into your home.
God won’t ask about the fancy clothes you had in your closet, but will ask how many of those clothes helped the needy.
God won’t ask about your social status, but will ask what kind of class you displayed.
God won’t ask how many material possessions you had, but will ask if they dictated your life.
God won’t ask what your highest salary was, but will ask if you compromised your character to obtain that salary.
God won’t ask how much overtime you worked, but will ask if you worked overtime for your family and loved ones.
God won’t ask how many promotions you received, but will ask how you promoted others.
God won’t ask what your job title was, but will ask if you reformed your job to the best of your ability.
God won’t ask what you did to help yourself, but will ask what you did to help others.
God won’t ask how many friends you had, but will ask how many people to whom you were a true friend.
God won’t ask what you did to protect your rights, but will ask what you did to protect the rights of others.
God won’t ask in what neighborhood you lived, but will ask how you treated your neighbors.
God won’t ask about the color of your skin, but will ask about the content of your character.
God won’t ask how many times your deeds matched your words, but will ask how many times they didn’t.

Trees That Wood
Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."
Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."
Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me."
After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter" ... and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.
At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.
When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll take this one", and he cut it down.
When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark. The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.
Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time. Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.
Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.
The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

Just Five More Minutes
While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.
“That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.
“He’s a fine looking boy” the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”
Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?”
Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.”
The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”
Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”
The man smiled and said, “OK.”
“My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.
The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.
She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play.”
Life is all about making priorities, what are your priorities?
Give someone you love 5 more minutes of your time today!

EAGLES IN A STORM
Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks?
The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it.
The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.
When the storms of life come upon us - and all of us will experience them - we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward God. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow God's power to lift us above them.
God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm.
Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.

Scars of Life
Some years ago, on a hot summer day in South Florida , a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into
the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went.He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.
His father, working in the yard, saw the two as they got closer and closer
together. In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly
as he could.
Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn
to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him. From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs...
That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go.
A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck,
took aim and shot the alligator.
Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived.
His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal.
And, on his arms, were deep scratches where his father's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved.
The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would
show him his scars.
The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the
reporter, 'But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too.
I have them because my Dad wouldn't let go.'
You and I can identify with that little boy.
We have scars, too.
No, not from an alligator,
but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have
caused us deep regret.
But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go.
In the midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you...
The Scripture teaches that God loves you.
You are a child of God.
He wants to protect you and provide for you in every way. But sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead. The swimming hole of life
is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack.
That's when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, HEAD, HANDS,BACK,HEART,BRAIN,LEGS,FINGERS,FACE,JAW, KNEES, ANKLES, HIPS, ETC…be very, very grateful.
He did not and will not ever let you go.
[/b]
God has blessed you, so that you can be a blessing to others. You just never know where a person is in his/her life and what they are going through. Never judge another person's scars, because you don't know how they got them...
Also, it is so important that we are not selfish, to receive the blessings
of these messages, without forwarding them
to someone else.
Right now, someone needs to know that God loves them, and you love them, too -
enough to not let them go .

SAISEVAK9JI THANK U SO MUCH FOR UR PRAYERS... MAY BABA BLESS... HERE ARE SUM MORE INSPIRATIONAL STORIES............
The Rose Within
A certain man planted a rose and watered it faithfully and before it blossomed, he examined it.
He saw the bud that would soon blossom, but noticed thorns upon the stem and he thought, “How can any beautiful flower come from a plant burdened with so many sharp thorns? Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the rose, and just before it was ready to bloom… it died.
So it is with many people. Within every soul there is a rose. The God-like qualities planted in us at birth, grow amid the thorns of our faults. Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects.
We despair, thinking that nothing good can possibly come from us. We neglect to water the good within us, and eventually it dies. We never realize our potential.
Some people do not see the rose within themselves; someone else must show it to them. One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to reach past the thorns of another, and find the rose within them.
This is one of the characteristic of love — to look at a person, know their true faults and accepting that person into your life; all while recognizing the nobility in their soul. Help others to realize they can overcome their faults. If we show them the “rose” within themselves, they will conquer their thorns. Only then will they blossom many times over.

The Vision of a Prayer
A Christian monk earnestly prayed that a vision of Jesus Christ might be revealed to him. After praying for many hours, the monk heard a voice telling him the visionwould occur the next morning at daybreak. Before the first rays of dawn appeared the following morning, the monk was on his knees at the altar.
A fierce storm was brewing, but the monk paid it no heed. He watched and prayed and waited for the vision. As the storm broke in great fury, a soft knock came at the door. Interrupted in his devotions, the monk turned away from the altar to open the door. He knew some poor wayfarer was seeking shelter from the raging storm. As he turned toward the door, he caught a glimpse of the vision for which he had prayed.
Torn between his desire to stay and experience the vision—one that he felt would last but for a moment—and his desire to help a brother in distress, the monk quickly decided that duty must come first. Upon opening the door, he gazed into the bright blue eyes of a small child who had apparently lost her way. She was tired, shivering from the cold, and hungry.
The monk gently reached out his hand and led the child into the warm room. He placed a bowl of milk and some fresh bread before her and did everything he could think of to make her comfortable. Warm, fed, and comfortable, the child fell asleep in a chair.
Then, with a heavy heart, he turned back toward his altar, fearing that the vision had vanished. To his joy and surprise, it was there—clear and bright and shining with radiant glory! As the monk gazed rapturously upon the precious vision for a long time, he heard a voice gently speak: “If thou had not attended to my little one, I could not have stayed.”

Grow Great by Dreams
The question was once asked of a highly successful businessman: “How have you done so much in your lifetime?”
He replied, “I have dreamed. I have turned my mind loose to imagine what I wanted to do. Then I have gone to bed and thought about my dreams. In the night I dreamt about my dreams. And when I awoke in the morning, I saw the way to make my dreams real. While other people were saying, ‘You can’t do that, it isn’t possible,’ I was well on my way to achieving what I wanted.”
As Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the U.S., said: “We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day, or in the red fire on a long winter’s evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nourish them through bad days until they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.”

A story on appreciation - Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a large corporation. He passed the first interview, and the director who did the last interview round, deliberated over the decision to hire him. The director discovered from the CV that the youth’s academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.
The director asked, “Did you obtain any scholarships in the school?”, the youth answered “None”.
The director asked, “Was it your father who paid for your school fees?”, The youth answered, “My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees.
The director asked, “Where did your mother work?”, The youth answered, ”My mother washes clothes for a li iving". The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.
The director asked, “Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?”, The youth answered, “Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, My mother can wash clothes faster than me.
The director said, “I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother’s hands, and then see me tomorrow morning.”
The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid. The youth cleaned his mother’s hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother’s hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.
This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother’s hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future. After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.
That night, mother and son talked for a very long time. Next morning , the youth went to the director’s office. The director noticed the tears in the youth’s eyes, asked: can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?”
The youth answered, “I cleaned my mother’s hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes”
The Director asked, “ please tell me your feelings.”
The youth said,
1. I know now what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not be the successful me today.
2. By working together and helping my mother, Only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done.
3. I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family and relationship.
The director said, “ This is what I am looking for to be manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.
As time went by, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company’s performance improved tremendously.
The lesson:
A child who has been protected and habitually given whatever he wanted, would develop a sense of entitlement, and would always put himself first. He would be ignorant of his parents efforts. When he starts a career, he would assume that every person must listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, may not appreciate the pains of his fellow employees and would have a tendency to blame others. Are we really serving our children by not helping them learn to appreciate of what they have?
You can let your child live in a big house, eat a good meal, learn piano, watch a big screen TV. However, when you are cutting grass, let them also experience it. After a meal, let them wash their plates and bowls together with their brothers and sisters. It is not because you do not have money to hire a maid, but because you want to love them in a right way. The most important thing is that the child learns how to appreciate the effort involved in any work and to be grateful for what he has been given, and learn to be a team player.

The nature of God and His creation, as explained in the Mundaka Upanishad.
As a spider spreads out and withdraws its web, as on earth grow the herbs and trees, and as a living man issues out hair, so does the Universe emerge here from God.
-Mundaka Upanishad
Commentary by Sudhir Krishnan
The above famous verse in the Mundaka Upanishad attempts to explain the nature of God and His creation with metaphors. The first question that might arise in a student is “We say that that God is Love and that He is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient”. If that is the case, how is it this universe, which apparently He created, is totally different from His nature? The Upanishad answers - “Just as the spider creates a web from its body, and also withdraws it unto itself, so has the Universe emerged out of God”. The nature of the God the creator and the nature of the universe the created is different, just like the nature of the web that the spider spins out is different from the nature of the spider. Like the spider’s web, everything that is created springs out, remains in, and finally goes back to Him.
The above answer may satisfy some students. Some others may however ask “The spider weaves the web in order to catch it's prey. Similarly, has God also created the universe to satisfy His own desires?” To answer this question, a second metaphor is given “Just as the trees grow on the earth, so does the universe spring out of God”. The trees out of their desire to grow, use the soil as a nutrient. The soil is totally indifferent to which type of plants grows on it - it supports fruit tres as well as weeds equally. Through this metaphor, the teacher attempts to explain that unlike the spider which desires prey, God has not created this Universe out of his selfish desire. He is desire-less and supports all of His creation equally, just like the soil supports all kinds of trees and shrubs without any specific desire that a farmer might have. Thus it is we who use Him to satisfy our desires, and not Him that created this universe with a desire to satisfy himself.
While the second metaphor may clear the doubt of the student regarding the desireless-ness of God in His creation, another doubt may arise now. The soil is inert, and does not have any life of its own. Just as the trees are living on the inert soil, is it that God also is inert like the soil from which trees spring? Are we like the trees just using God as a soil, and that He himself is inert, lacking an enlivening principle of His own? This question is answered by the third metaphor. “Just as a living man issues out hair, so does the Universe emerge from God”. A living man has hair all over his body. Once he dies, although the hair is present, they can no longer grow. Just as the life in the man is needed for the hair to grow, in the same way it is the power of God that is responsible for all life that we see. Without Him there is no life - He is the enlivening principle, He is like the electricity without which no electrical appliance will function.

God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well.
God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well.
-Romans 12:6 (The Living Bible)
Commentary by Sudhir Krishnan
Each of us come with unique talents, gifts and skills. Some people are natural athletes, others may excel in marketing, engineering or sales, some excel in the arts, yet others make excellent teachers, managers or administrators. Whatever the talents we are bestowed with, these are areas that other people may find difficult or uninteresting, but we can do it naturally and effortlessly and are deeply passionate about it. No one can do everything well - however each one of us can do certain things very well. The key to living with passion lies in figuring out what our passion is, and then following your heart.
Often times, people look to peers and mentors for guiding them towards understanding their own purpose. While it is good to take the opinion of others for general guidance, what works for peers may not work for us, for the simple fact that each one of us is unique and are here with a unique song to sing. Just because everyone is your family is a doctor, it does not mean that you are destined to be a doctor as well. It is best to focus on your unique strengths and not get caught up in what does not come naturally to you. To be on purpose means you are doing what you love to do, doing what you are really good at, and accomplishing something that is really important to you.
Unfortunately, many times people take what comes easily to them for granted. Our talents are God's gift to us - it is part of our divine purpose. We need to nurture them to their maximum potential. All our talents are bestowed upon us for the benefit of other - we need to put them to use wisely in service of others. So what keeps us from living the life we are destined to live? At times, we may not know what our purpose is yet, and hence we may need to pay more close attention to what it is that we can do really well. Once we have found our passion, it is important that we believe in ourselves and get out of our own way so we can settle into what is destined for us. So how do you know you are living your true purpose? When a person is doing what he is truely destined to do, life stops being a constant struggle, it becomes joyful, and it just feels right - in short our best life happens when we are living our purpose.

Feeling overwhelmed and helpless? Here are some tips to turn the situation around ...
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
Often times, life throws challenging situations at us that are beyond our control. Perhaps your relationship with your spouse is becoming worse and you are tired of trying to make it better. Or, you might have been laid off from a job and finding it challenging to meet ends. Perhaps your business is failing and unable to keep up with the competition. Or maybe you are tying to find the right life partner for many years now. In all the above situations, you tried your best to get what you want a number of times, only to encounter disappointment time after time. Now you feel overwhelmed and helpless with the problem at hand, and no longer believe that a solution is possible. Does this sound like you? If so read on.
Why do we give up?
Failure is painful. No one wants to try again and again just to fail each time. In order to avoid further pain, our mind simply gives up on us. When this happens, one becomes unwilling to attempt anything further as the moment we think about the problem, all the painful thoughts of past failure overwhelms us, and all we are able to do is to give ourselves reasons why any action we take will not succeed.
The good news is that whatever the life situation, we can always turn it around once we decide to make it happen! Here are some tips to orchestrate the turn around:
1) Believe it is possible to succeed
The only real danger is your belief that there is no solution for your problem - that you are indeed helpless. You need to first remove this belief if you want to make any progress. The fact is that all power to find that solution lies within you - you are just not seeing the solution yet.
2) Your past is not equal to your future
Your future has got nothing to do with the past. By taking correct action in the present moment, you can create anything you want. Learn from the past but do not get stuck in it.
3) Practice Persistence
Success takes persistence. People who stick around longer without giving up open themselves to success more than people who give up easily when they fail a few times. Successful people never stop trying.
4) Do it better each day
While persistence is good, one needs to always look for better ways to solve the same problem. Get creative and see how you can solve the same problem in a better way, that you did not attempt yesterday.
5) There are no real failures
Each failure is a stepping stone to future success. Failures brings us much needed knowledge and experience that was lacking the last time around. If the correct lessons are learnt and applied from past experiences, success if not far away.
6) Consult with an expert
It is good to get some fresh ideas from other people who have experience and skill dealing with the challenges you are facing. For example, some relationships that you could not improve by yourself for over a decade can be turned around in a couple of months with help from a skilled relationship coach. The same goes with other areas of life such as your career, health and finances.
7) Stay positive and appreciative of what you do have
Just because one area of your life is not working the way you want, do not fool yourself into believing that your entire life has gone haywire. When we are focused on what is lacking, we just tend not to pay enough attention to what is working. Practice genuine appreciation of the areas of your life that are doing great. Whatever the situation, each one of us has a lot to be grateful for, that some others may not be blessed with.
8) Know that this too shall pass
No problem remains forever. Most of us have faced problems that perhaps felt like the end of the world many years back, that hardly cross our mind at this time. With continued right effort, you will find the solution much sooner than you think.

How do I become more positive?
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
We talk about being positive all the time. Now how do we really become more positive?
Here are some things, which if done regularly, will bring more positivity in your life.
1) Surround yourself with positivity and avoid negativity as best as you can.
Each one of us is the average of the five people that we interact with each day. Have you ever noticed that when you enter a room you can instantly feel the energy, whether positive or negative, and that your mood gets influenced by it? Each and every interaction we have with the outside world influences our mind, and thus the smart thing to do is to exercise discretion, to the extent possible, as to what situations you want to expose yourself to. Consciously Choose things that make you happy, and avoid things that bring you down. Specifically, here are some of the things that influences the mind:
People: Seek people who energize you. These people are happy and positive themselves. They are full of joy, and perceive the world to be a wonderful place full of possibilities. To the extent possible, avoid people who drain your energy. These people are forever stuck in the negative. They are chronic complainers, who see themselves as perfect, and just that the world needs to change to suit their own likes and dislikes. This does not mean that negative people do not deserve our love - in fact they need it more than positive people. What this means is that until the time we become very positive ourselves, it is best to avoid negative influences. After reaching a certain level in your spiritual growth, you will find that you have more mental immunity towards negative energy. When that time comes, you can become a source of strength to others.
TV: Avoid all programs that bring your energy down. This means it is best to stop watching the news, which is mostly negative. If at all you must watch TV, watch inspirational and motivational programs. Completely avoiding TV is not a bad idea either. It will free up precious time for things that help you grow.
Internet - Again it is best to avoid reading online news regularly. Even reading up on gossip does not help a person become positive. Gossip is simply judgement passed on someone else’s life. It is better to look at our own self and see how we can improve instead. Keep a watch for people who only post negative content. They are only showing us the quality of their own minds.
Movies: Avoid watching movies that are tragic and violent. Instead, watch happy and Inspirational movies that uplifts your spirit.
2) Complete your past.
Make peace with your past. Love yourself unconditionally. Forgive yourself and others. Live life in the present moment.
3) Be true to your preferences, needs and desires
Be true to your heart. Stop settling for less than you want. Start acknowledging and honoring each and every preferences of yours, however small. There is no selfishness in pursuing the life that you want - in fact it is your birthright. Ask for what you want, and do not expect things to automatically come to you without asking.
4) Love and take care of yourself.
Regularly, take care of your mind, body, heart and spirit. Self-care is often neglected and even misunderstood as being selfish. Would you drive your car without fuel in it? Self-care is fuel for your mind, body, heart and spirit, without which you cannot give your 100% to yourself and to the people around you. Self care is giving yourself the love you need. This means eating healthy, exercising, and maintaining a balance between life and work.
5) Keep learning and improving yourself each day
Strive to become a little better than yesterday each day. Learn something new that you did not know yesterday. You could learn from self-help books or pages such as this. Or, you may follow teachings from spiritual organizations. If you think you need personal help, do not hesitate to hire professionals like counselors and life coaches. What you may not be able to achieve in years, you could learn from professionals in just a few weeks. Even presidents and kings have personal advisors - there is nothing wrong in reaching out and asking for help.
6) Do things that give you joy each day
Instead of stressing out each day, and only taking the weekend or vacations to relax, each day do small things that give you joy. It could be a short walk in the park, playing with your kids, cooking dinner together, listening to calming music, practicing a hobby etc. Enjoy little pleasures - maybe a bite of your favorite chocolate, your favorite ice-cream, getting a massage, a sip of your favorite wine, while making sure you are not over indulging and creating addictions.
7) Be in gratitude
Wake up each day saying "I am going to make today the best day of my life". At the end of each day, give thanks to all the things in your life that is wonderful. Consider giving thanks for your talents, your health, your relationships, your career, and your material prosperity. Each one is abundant in one way or the other. The more you are in gratitude, the more the universe gives you things to be thankful for.
8) Meditate regularly
Meditation changes your emotional set point. It reduces your mental impressions. All your strong likes and dislikes reduce with regular meditation, thanks to which you experience more joy and peace of mind. A mind that has been quietened frees up all your mental resources. Such a mind functions at optimal efficiency, bringing success in whatever you take up.
9) Define success in your own terms and work a little towards it each day
Find out what your true passion is, and set a high goal that inspires and motivates you. Your true passion is one where doing the work itself brings you immense joy, and it is not work that is done only for the need to survive. The goal you define should be a high one - do not set one that is easily achieved. The purpose of a goal is to strive towards progressing each day, and not reaching it easily. Work towards that goal each day,. Measure and celebrate your success for all milestones reached. Personal success brings a lot of fulfillment.
10) Serve others selflessly
While personal success is quite fulfilling, nothing can beat the joy you get when you serve all of humanity selflessly. A certain spiritual aspect within us grows only when we drop our selfishness and realize our oneness with others. Note that if you are struggling to find personal success in your own life, it is impossible for you to be a source of strength for others. Thus, it is better to work on your personal success before you try to serve others selflessly. At the same time, do not wait to serve others until you retire or have amassed a lot of wealth, for it will put this beautiful aspect of life forever into the future. If you are not abundant with money, you can serve others with your talents and time. Volunteering your time and skills brings more fulfillment and spiritual growth than simply parting with your money

You are a Genius
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
Throughout our life, we have met people who seem to have more intelligence than the rest of us. We term these people brilliant, smart or address them as genius. We assume that their intelligence is God’s gift to them. Perhaps you are one of these gifted souls yourself. And then there are others who find it hard to concentrate and perform well academically and on assigned jobs, find it difficult to learn new things, and perhaps wish that they were more like those geniuses.
A competitive society places a lot of importance on intelligence. Intelligent people are considered valuable everywhere, whereas people who display lower levels of intelligence constantly fear the consequences of not being able to keep up with the peers in their respective fields. When our children perform well academically in school, we proudly rejoice and share their performance with everyone around us. On the other hand, when the child is struggling academically, it causes much anxiety and worry to parents.
Do you struggle academically and in your career? Do you consider yourself dull and wished that your were smarter? Or do you just wish to do better at the tasks that you take up? The good news is that you are already a genius, just that you may or may not know it. Even top performers use only a small percentage of their brains, and it follows that everyone has a huge potential within them to be a genius. It is a myth that geniuses are born that way. In reality, most of these geniuses are ones who developed their inner capabilities more than others.
If you believe that your intelligence is static and cannot be enhanced, consider this. The performance of students who are otherwise brilliant suffer greatly after experiencing some traumatic event in their lives. The same students are not able to learn and retain like they used to. Sometimes, the drop in academic performance is so drastic, that a top student might get failing grades in school after experiencing the trauma, until the situation is correct by therapy. The same is true with adults as well. This suggests that clearly there is something more to performance besides raw intelligence and genetics.
What could be the reason for higher performances then?
The following observation from geography helps to understand this better. In the Indian subcontinent, many rivers originate in the Himalayas. Most of these rivers break up into smaller distributaries, until they get either land locked or dried up by the sun. The rivers that break up into smaller streams and distributaries never reach the ocean. On the other hand, the river Ganges, which also starts in the Himalayas, continues to flow steadfastly south east without breaking up, and is able to pour its waters into the Bay of Bengal. The fact that the Ganges flows without dividing herself is the dominant reason for her to be able to reach the ocean.
Such is the case with the intelligence of the human mind. People who are able to focus their thoughts on a particular subject with undivided attention, appear to be more intelligent than others. In reality the same potential exists in the rest of us as well. Thus it is less about the faculty of intelligence itself, and more about the ability to bring this faculty together with continuous, undivided attention, that is really the reason for the above average performance of some people which we term as genius.
As swami Vivekananda said:
"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is way great spiritual giants are produced.”
Now the question is, why is it that some people are able to give undivided attention to what they take up, whereas some others are not able to?
There are two reasons for this:
= A high goal that greatly inspires and motivates the individual
= A mind that is free from distraction
Let us take this up this up one by one:
1) A high goal that greatly inspires and motivates the individual
Until and unless an individual selects a task that greatly inspires and motivates him, his full potential does not get unleashed. This is why it is extremely important to “follow your heart”. Selecting a field of work only because of the need to survive ensures that an individual forever remains only in survival mode. All of the potential of such a person remain dormant.
Mahatma Gandhi was a mediocre student in school. He was a shy, soft-spoken individual who had no great spark of intelligence and leadership in him. All that changed when he suffered discrimination in Africa due to the color of his skin. He took upon himself the goal to correct the injustices that he faced. Highly inspired and motivated with this goal, this once shy man of mediocre abilities underwent a tremendous transformation. He grew by leaps and bounds, fought diligently and untiringly towards the goal of freedom for the entire nation, and in the process introduced some of the most brilliant and powerful ideas known to fight injustice in a peaceful manner. His leadership was par excellence. No one remembers the shy mediocre student, all of us know him as a highly powerful and revered political leader who we lovingly call “Bapu" - The father of the nation. All of us can bring out the great potential sleeping within us, if only we find a powerful goal that deeply inspires us, like Mahatma Gandhi did.
2) A mind that is free from distraction
As seen above in the example of the intellectual performance of people suffering after undergoing mental trauma, even people who are otherwise considered brilliant, perform poorly when the mind is distracted. Only when the mind is quietened does the intellect starts to perform to its full potential. An individual with a quiet mind is better able to make decisions that are in true alignment with his purpose, and thus increases his chances of success. Also a quiet mind conserves a lot of energy, as it is at peace. A quiet mind is more creative and intuitive. An agitated mind is more prone to negative emotions such as anger, hatred, doubt, insecurity, unworthiness, etc, which wastes precious energy that would be otherwise channeled towards the task at hand.
The other source of distraction come via our senses. It is not uncommon for a person’s intellectual performance to suffer when the mind is distracted thanks to preoccupation with gratifying one of more of the senses - which is what happens when the mind deeply craves for anything. This is why people who experiencing a breakup of their relationship, or are addicted to alcohol or drugs perform well below their potential. Regular meditation reduces our cravings and aversions. It helps to cultivate a mind that is creative, intuitive, and free of distraction, which unleashes more of the power of your intellect to the tasks you undertake.
Your intelligence is not a fixed entity. You have enormous potential within you to enhance it. Each one of us carries within us the seed of genius. Most of us preserve the seed as it, whereas some of us take that seed and grow it into a mighty tree - and that makes all the difference in the world. You are a genius - now go show the world the real power within you.

The beauty of spiritual growth.
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
A lot of people turn to spirituality as a last resort when they are experience a lot of suffering. Some other's turn to it because of intellectual curiosity - to seek answers they could not find elsewhere. While any reason is a good reason to get started with spirituality, in my personal experience, the greatest fruits that spirituality offers is the wonderful transformation it can bring in an individual, consequently changing the very reality of life as he knew before.
As your mind matures with spiritual practices, you see less of good and bad, right and wrong - you understand more and judge less. Situations that were painful earlier do not give you pain anymore. You develop an ability to understand all situations and be comfortable in a lot of environments, with different types of people, whether they agree with you or not.
Your focus shifts from “What’s in store for me?” to “How can I serve?”. Your focus shifts from “What’s broken?” to “What do I want to create instead?”. You earlier question of “How can I get more joy?” changes to “How can I express my joy?”. Your mind quietens down and your heart becomes more compassionate towards all of life. It becomes easier to forgive and forget. It becomes easier to understand/realize universal truths that the agitated mind was not revealing earlier.
As an individual transforms himself, his life starts to become a gift to others, and he himself remains in a state of sustained joy since his happiness becomes less and less dependent on having and not having things a certain way in the external world. Such is the beauty of spiritual growth that is available to all of us.

Why is my life not improving in spite of reading these inspirations?
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
We are creatures of habit. Our minds are conditioned by past impressions. We keep following in our old ways until the cycle of ignorance is broken by constant awareness of ourselves. This is why we need constant reminders. Knowledge needs to seep into our sub-conscious mind in order for it to become useful to us. This is precisely why in the Vedic scriptures, three levels of attaining knowledge are prescribed:
Shravanam (Listening)
Mananam (Contemplating the knowledge)
Nidhi Dhyasa (Practicing the knowledge)
Shravanam (Reading/Listening):
A lot of people read/listen to inspirational material for the temporary relief that it brings. When you are feeling low, positive thoughts make you feel better. It gives you hope. Inspirational material asserts that the way you are currently looking at things is not the only way to look at it - that there is a much more positive solution to your problem out there, which you may not be seeing in this moment. However reading inspirational writings only to feel better is limiting the value you can derive from it - it is like using an aeroplane to drive around in your neighbourhood, which you could be flying to a neighbouring state!
Mananam (Contemplating upon the knowledge)
Contemplating upon the knowledge means reflecting upon the knowledge to see how it is applicable in the context of our lives. Contemplating of knowledge is understanding the intricacies of the knowledge, and making the knowledge ours. Without contemplation, we are less likely to fully appreciate the real power of the piece of wisdom being discussed.
Nidhi Dhyasa (Practicing the knowledge)
Then, you may find that some people are able to speak beautifully about a certain piece of wisdom. They have understood it really well. They can analyse it, discuss it with others, and even challenge opposing views. However the appreciation of the knowledge is only from an intellectual perspective. They may not have made any effort to apply the knowledge in their own lives. This is akin to a doctor who advises his patients on the ill effects of smoking, but is a chain smoker himself.
Why does a person who fully understands a piece of wisdom unable to apply it in his life?
One possibility is that the person learnt the knowledge only to derive some intellectual pleasure from it. He had no real thirst for self-improvement. The second possibility is that his mind, thanks to various past habits, is rebelling against his own intellect and making him incapable of applying the knowledge he knows very well. For example - the person knows that reacting in anger does not help. However this knowlege comes to him only after he has already reacted in anger and then later regrets his act. This is why, in addition to just gaining knowledge, it is also necessary to quieten the mind with meditation. A quiet mind can grasp the knowledge better and is more capable of applying the knowledge when it is needed. Meditation also helps the mind to become more contemplative.
It takes regular and continuous effort to put something new that we learn to practice - as our own mind rebels against us and wants to keep going about it's old and comfortable ways. However all the effort we put into ourselves comes with a big payoff. There comes a stage where the application of knowledge becomes natural and effortless, and brings about a positive, lasting transformation within us.

If God is all good, why do people suffer?
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
When things are going great in our lives, we may not stop and ask why is it so. However when we experience suffering, the following question is likely to comes up in our minds "If God is all good, why do people suffer?" Here are some answers from different sources, in alphabetical order (all views are treated equally)
Christianity:
God created everything that is good. All the evil is the work of a powerful being called Satan or the Devil. What we call evil is just lack of goodness. For example, lack of love is hate, lack of sight is blindness etc. God gave us a choice of good and evil. When we do not accept Him and go against His loving ways, we sin. Suffering is a consequence of sin. God did not create evil and suffering - we create it with the choices we make.
Eastern spirituality:
Everything we experience is our own karma. The word karma is used to mean both action that we do, and the consequences of the action. This is a spiritual law, just like we have physical law like the law of gravity. God does not interfere in it, just like gravity never discriminates. Thus all our suffering is the consequence of our own actions.
The Law of attraction:
Every individual attracts his life experiences through his or her vibration. You attract what you are. When you are in lower vibrations such as fear, grief, depression, insecurity, hatred, anger you are relatively disconnected with your source. When you are in higher vibrations such as love, joy, appreciation, enthusiasm, eagerness, optimism, hopefulness, contentment etc, you are well connected to your source. The source only knows about well-being. The better your connection to your source, the better your life will be. When we experience suffering, it is we who have severed our connection from our source.
The Upanishads:
What we call God is the supreme consciousness. He is the great power that enlivens us. He is like the electricity without which no electrical appliance will run. He nourishes all of his creation equally - just like the soil does not care whether weeds grow on it or fruit trees. We can invoke His power to do both righteous and unrighteous deeds. We, the jiva, is responsible for everything that we create, using His power, and thus He cannot not responsible for our suffering.
Conclusion:
God is the source of all power. He is like the fuel without with no car will run. If a person driving a car gets into an accident, sure enough it is true that the car was driven by the fuel. If just before the time of the accident, the fuel tank were to become empty, indeed, there would have been no accident. However the fuel cannot be held responsible for that accident - it is the driver's fault! In the same way, we are responsible for the suffering we experience in our life - everything we experience is self-created. All our suffering is experienced when we move away from what God stands for. By turning towards Him, we can definitely add more joy in our lives - regardless of the amount of suffering we are currently experiencing.

Does prayer change our karma?
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
Prayer is best done to give thanks - it is to be in a state of gratitude. In eastern traditions during a "Pooja", various items such as fruit, flowers, milk etc are offered to God. This is saying "Dear God - I am grateful for so much you have given me in my life - please accept a humble offering from me in return. Thank you". This is very much like small children borrowing money from their parents so that they can buy a gift for their parents birthday - whatever we are offering to Him was after all given by Him. However this helps to cultivates a sense of gratitude.
Unfortunately people pray to tell God what is not working in their life - the focus is inherently on lack. That sort of complaining to God does not help to bring more abundance in our lives. And then some others pray saying "God, give me what I want, and I shall do this in return." Some people offer God a portion of future income earned, some others offer him a few coconuts in exchange for a large profit. All these practices is not prayer - it is doing business with God. That is being ignorant of the fact that God is your own consciousness - even before a thought rises in your mind and you become aware, He already knows it! He knows your intentions - so it's best to not make deals with Him. Asking God for what we want can work wonders, if we ask from a state of gratitude, contentment and joy, instead of frustration, despair, powerlessness etc. Ask and it is given - this is very much consistent with the law of attraction.
The practice of Bhakti Yoga in eastern traditions or offering prayer in other religious traditions is an attempt to be in a state of devotion. A mind that is turned to the Lord in devotion loses itself. Such is mind is free from egocentric desires. Action done without egocentric desires does not accumulate any new vasanas (mental impressions), and existing vasanas are burned. A mind with lesser vasanas is less agitated and more contemplative. Lesser the vasanas, more the contemplation, and higher the realization. The burning of vasanas means the strong thrust that the vasanas had on our mind and intellect loses its grip. When this happens, our intellect shines through more powerfully, and the mind remains more centered and integrated with the intellect. A quiet mind powerfully aligned with our intellect attracts everything we want towards us, thus changing our very karma.

Believe in Yourself
There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be.
That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down.
But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself.
There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them.
Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are.
So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be.
Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you.
Keep Believing in Yourself

How do we catch ourselves when we are disconnected from source (God)?
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
Our emotions are an indicator as to how well we are connected to our source (God). When we are in positive emotion such as joy, appreciation, empowerment, love, enthusiasm, optimism, etc, we are well connected to our source. In other words when we are connected to source, we feel really good. This is because the vibration we are offering is a match to the vibration of source. On the other hand, when we are in negative emotion such as depression, fear, grief, powerlessness, insecurity, guilt, unworthiness, envy, anger, hatred, blame, worry, doubt, frustration etc, we are disconnected to our source. In other words, when we are disconnected with source, we do not feel very good. This is because the vibration that we are offering with our thoughts is not match to the vibration of source.
The more agitated the mind, the harder it is to catch ourselves and turn around the negative emotion as it is happening. A person undergoing extreme negative emotion loses awareness of his actions - the mind gets carried away by the thoughts and reacts. During this time, the function of the intellect is lost. After the mind has reacted and the person gains some normal awareness, the intellect starts questioning the mind about it’s actions. This is when we feel guilty, regret our actions or otherwise try to justify it by blaming external circumstances.
It is a matter of training the mind. Normally, we start off being slaves to our minds - we are completely identified with our minds, and blindly follow the actions that our minds tell us to perform. The more we meditate and grow spiritually, the calmer the mind becomes. People who meditate frequently are able to observe their minds as if they are observing a movie. They are able to experience their minds completely separate from themselves. This separation of the mind from ourselves gives us valuable time before the minds turns too negative. The intellect becomes aware of the state of the mind and automatically sends positive thoughts to the mind to calm it down. The more connected to source we usually are, the more we become aware of any temporary disconnection from source. This automatic observing and controlling the mind can be tough in the beginning, however it gets easier as we progress on the path.

The obstacle in our path
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.
The peasant learned what many of us never understand! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

Touching life story.....
[A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the
morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.
Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible. Angrily,
he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy book.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.
He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With
tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the
sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW
There are two days in every week about which we should not worry.
Two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.
One of these days is yesterday with its mistakes and cares,
Its faults and blunders, Its aches and pains.
Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday.
We cannot undo a single act we performed.
We cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone.
The other day we should not worry about is tomorrow.
With its possible adversities, Its burdens,
Its large promise and poor performance.
Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.
Tomorrow's Sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds,
but it will rise.
Until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.
This just leaves only one day . . . Today.
Any person can fight the battles of just one day.
It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternity's -
yesterday and tomorrow that we break down.
It is not the experience of today that drives people mad.
It is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened yesterday
and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.
Let us therefore live but one day at a time.

Kids Definition of God
"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die so there will be enough people to take care of things here on earth. He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make, That way, He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.
God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV on account of this. Since He hears everything, not only prayers, there must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off.
God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your parent's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.
Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church.
Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind like His Father and He told His Father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said OK.
His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard work on earth so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So He did. And now He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones He can take care of Himself without having to bother God. Like the secretary, only more important, of course. You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to hear you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.
You should always go to Church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong! And, besides, the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.
If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parent can't go everywhere with You, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in the dark or when you can't swim very good and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids. But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.
And that's why I believe in God."

Fear and faith are both beliefs - both require a belief in something that is unseen in the moment. In fear, a person believes that something undesirable is going happen, and in faith, a person believes that something desirable is going to happen. In both cases, the universe gives you exactly what you choose to believe. What do you choose - fear or faith?
I choose Faith which i have on my beloved Baba Sai.....

The Window"
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain the fluids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed next to the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the outside world. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man had said. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm amid flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Unexpectedly, an alien thought entered his head: Why should hehave all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get to see anything? It didn't seem fair. As the thought fermented, the man felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and found himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window - and that thought now controlled his life.
Late one night, as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room, he never moved, never pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes, the coughing and choking stopped, along with the sound of breathing. Now, there was only silence--deathly silence.
The following morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths. When she found the lifeless body of the man by the window, she was saddened and called the hospital attendant to take it away--no words, no fuss. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.
Moral of the story:
The pursuit of happiness is a matter of choice...it is a positive attitude we consciously choose to express. It is not a gift that gets delivered to our doorstep each morning, nor does it come through the window. And I am certain that our circumstances are just a small part of what makes us joyful. If we wait for them to get just right, we will never find lasting joy.
The pursuit of happiness is an inward journey. Our minds are like programs, awaiting the code that will determine behaviors; like bank vaults awaiting our deposits. If we regularly deposit positive, encouraging, and uplifting thoughts, if we continue to bite our lips just before we begin to grumble and complain, if we shoot down that seemingly harmless negative thought as it germinates, we will find that there is much to rejoice about

The Many Faces of God
When your child asks what does God look like, how would you answer?
One glorious late afternoon Michael and his mother sat cuddled together on the porch swing as they welcomed the serenity of dusk. The air was crisp and the sky was ablaze with the extraordinary hues of nature's palate. This was a special time they shared together. On this particular night Michael was filled with wonder and curiosity as he turned to his mother and asked, "Mommy, what does God look like?" His mother looked at him and said, "The faces of God are many my love."
The night I met your father; The day we married and our souls became one; And the morning I held you as a newborn in my arms and gazed upon your angelic face; I knew what God looked liked.
The moment I watched a double rainbow emerge from the violent storm clouds; The daybreak when the morning sky was filled with magnificent shades of magenta, lavender, and sapphire; And the twilight when I witnessed the brilliant sunset illuminate the mountains; I knew what God looked like.
The evening you became very ill and I stayed up comforting you throughout the night; The moments I prayed for your healing; And the dawn when you awoke smiling and healthy; I knew what God looked like.
The day your beautiful sister was entrusted into our family; The moment I watched as you tenderly held her for the first time; And the instant you told her you were her big brother; I knew what God looked like.
The days when our whole family hugged and no one wanted to let go; The twilight when our loved ones joined the Lord in heaven; And finally, the nights when we, as a family, gave thanks for all the blessings in our lives; I knew what God looked like.
Michael interrupted and said rather impatiently, but Mommy you still have not told me what God looks like. His mother smiled and said, "My darling, As our days and nights unfold the precious moments we experience are woven together to form the fabric of our lives, each thread bearing the face of God. In every gift, in every challenge, in every blessing, in every obstacle, in all that is beautiful and all that is changing you can see God's face revealed. By being aware of God's divine presence in our lives, we will always know what God looks like."
Michael and his mother continued to cuddle on the porch swing as they watched day turn to night. As the sun disappeared over the horizon, the stars emerged one by one, glistening like diamonds against the deep blue background of the night sky. The heavenly constellations appeared and shooting stars began to race across the vastness of the universe. The air was filled with peace, love, and wonder as Michael turned to his mother and said, "Mommy, now I know what God looks like."

The law of Karma.
by Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
The law of Karma is a fundamental spiritual law in eastern spiritual teachings. Most people would have heard of the term Karma. Karma basically stands for action, and also the fruits of action. In other words, it stands for both cause and effect. The basic idea of karma is that of personal responsibility for one’s actions - that we are creators of our life. Whatever is currently manifesting in our life has been created by us, with or without awareness, by our past actions. Thus the law of karma basically says that man is the product of his past. Righteous actions bring favorable results, and unrighteous actions bring unfavorable results. Karma can be done with our mind - manifesting as emotions, with our intellect manifesting as thoughts and through our body manifesting as actions/words.
Karma is often misunderstood to only mean the law of destiny. When something unfavorable happens, people say with “It’s only karma”, meaning we are powerless to do anything about it. Some others condemn the law as being overly pessimistic, as it seems to say that many things are predestined thanks to our past, of which we have no control over. It is true that man’s present is the consequence of the past, and in this sense, the present has been destined by past actions. However karma goes beyond destiny. Although there is a price to pay for past actions, man also has been blessed with the capacity to choose his actions. The past actions creates in him a tendency by which he will act. However by being aware of those tendencies, he can consciously choose how to act in the present, and thereby begin to change his karma. Thus the future is a continuation of the past, unless modified by the present, with self-effort.
Although we enjoy freedom to choose our actions, our present actions are mixed with the tendencies that are created by our past. Greater the tendencies, harder it is to change our actions. This is why people find self-improvement difficult. Knowing what to do and being able to do it are two different things, as change involves fighting our tendencies that we ourselves created by our past actions. Thus looking back at the past, man is the product of it. Looking into the future, man is the creator of it. Looking into the present moment, he is both a product as well as a creator. In unawareness, he becomes more of a victim, and in awareness, he becomes more of a creator.
One may wonder how all our actions are kept track of and bear the fruits of pleasure and pain. Is there some God that keeps track of all this? It can seem very mystical at first. In reality, it is very much scientifically explained. Each time a person does an action with a sense of doer-ship (ego), impressions are created in his mind. Every impression is a karma. Stronger the impression, more likely it is to manifest. All habits are nothing but karmas. Whether it is a good or habit, the person keeps doing it without having to put too much effort. All addictions are nothing but very strong mental impressions, and thus part of the person’s karma. A person who has an addiction has a pattern of behavior that he is very likely to repeat, that is not easy to change.
Karma is classified into the following three types:
1) Sanchita karma:
This is the total of our karmas. The set of arrows that an archer carries on his quiver is an example of sanchita karma. This is the sum total of karmic possibilities that are currently unmanifest. Since this is unmanifest, we have the option to burn these karmas by right action. All spiritual practices such as meditation, being in devotion/prayer, doing self-less service burns sanchita karma. In the above example of the archer, it is making sure the archer drops the arrows on the ground so he no longer has the possibility of firing them.
2) Prarabdha Karma:
Karma that is currently bearing fruit is called prarabdha karma. In the example of the archer, the arrow that the archer has already shot is his prarabdha karma. The archer has already done the action, and he has to face the consequences of them, good or bad. Practically speaking, the life that we are experiencing in the present moment is our prarabdha. This includes the type of body we have, the environment around us, the type of people we are with etc. Prarabdha karma is thus that portion of our karma that may be called destiny.
A common question people ask is “Why do bad things happen to good people”? Prarabdha karma is the answer. A person may be good today, but he is paying a karmic debt for his past actions. Another question that lead to doubt/reject the law is "How come some people who perform bad deeds seem to have a good time:?" Again the answer is prarabdha karma. The person who is doing the bad deeds is currently experiencing the fruits of past deeds, which was good. Eventually he will have to pay the price for the actions done today as well. The effect of karma spans multiple life-times, and thus the law seems to be not working only because we are limiting our observation to a very short time period.
3) Agami Karma:
This is future karma - actions that we are likely to do in future. In the example of the archer, this is the arrow which the archer is about to shoot. Mental impressions that are very strong form agami karma. If a person drinks alcohol regularly, this is his agami karma. It is very likely that he would drink today, given that he has acquired that strong tendency by regularly drinking.
The three practical takeaways are:
Prarabdha karma, in other words destiny, makes man a victim of his past. There is nothing a person can do about consequences from his past - he has to endure them. If he endures them without reacting to them, then he does not accumulate further karma.
At the same time, the law of karma encourages that man can change his future by present actions. With self-effort, man can burn off his sanchita and agami karma, while still enduring his pradabdha karma. With consistent effort, man become more of a master of his own destiny, and less a victim of the past.
Finally, lest man not be discouraged by the lack of results from his effort in the short term, the law of karma explains that the lack of results could be due to an opposing force - his own prarabdha karma, which determines the level of effort required to bring about positive change in his life.

A Small Plant
There was a big tree in the outskirts of a dense forest. It was so huge that it provided shelter to the animals, birds and the villagers from the hot sun. Many villagers used to sit below the tree to relax and have discussions on various issues. The place near the tree was always busy with activity.
There grew a small plant at the base of the tree. Being a newly grown plant, it was delicate and tender and used to sway easily with a touch of breeze. The small plant and the tree were neighbors.
One day the plant and the tree had a small chat with each other.
The tree said, “Little one, why don’t you fix your feet deep inside the ground and lift your head bold in the air. Do it as I have done. Being the strongest it has protected me from all the dangers.”
The little plant replied, “I don’t need to do that. I am much safer under your shadow.”
The surprise tree replied saying, “Safer! You think you are safer than me? You know how old I am. I am deep rooted and have a thick trunk. Who can pluck me out and uproot me out of this place? No one can cut me with a single blow. Look at you, you will be dead even if a small kid plucks you”
The tree looked away in pride.
One day, a powerful cyclone struck the forest. All the trees were uprooted. Most of the forest was completely destroyed. The giant tree was destroyed from its roots.
After the storm had calmed down, the villagers started investigating the damage. Many of the strong and old trees had been struck down. The whole forest became littered with the leaves and trunks of the trees.
However, the villagers found out that the small plant was still alive. During the cyclone the plant had bent down, but after it had calmed down, the plant stood straight again. The strong tree under which it had taken protection had died by the striking cyclone but the tiny and delicate tree managed to survive the impact of the storm.

The Snake With a Gold Coin
There was a farmer called Shankar in Dani village. He was a poor farmer who used to toil the whole day in his farm. One day, he was working in the farm on a sunny day. Tired and exhausted by the heat he lay down under a tree’s shadow to take a small nap. When he was just about to doze off, he saw a snake with a huge hood coming towards his hands. His farm was not yielding high results since a few months. He said to himself, “This snake is my guardian. I haven’t worshipped it any time in my life. That is the reason I am facing loss in my yield.” Being a spiritual man, he bowed down in front of the snake.
He got milk in a bowl and said loudly, “Oh my Guardian. I was not aware you lived here. That is the reason I never worshipped you.” The next day when he was back in his office, the farmer saw one gold coin in his bowl. He repeated the practice of giving milk everyday. In return he would get the coin in the morning.
The farmer had to visit a village one day, so he asked his son to serve milk to the snake. The son did as he was asked to. As always, he found the gold coin in the bowl the next day. Being a selfish man, he thought, “The area seems to be having a lot of gold coins here. Instead of waiting for a gold coin every morning, I would kill the snake and get all of them.”
So the next day, when he was serving the snake milk, he hit the snake with a stick. However, the snake escaped his blow and in a fit of rage, bit the farmer’s son, who fell dead on the spot.
When the farmer came back from the village he heard about his son’s death. He cried and mourned.
After a few days, he went back to the farm and calling him loudly, he served him milk. He cried out loud but the snake did not give any response. After sometime, the snake came out of its snake hole. He said to the farmer, “Your son is dead and you still are greedy to get the gold coin. From now on we are not friends. Your son tried to kill me so I bit him. How can you I forget the pain he caused me? How can you forget about your son’s death?” The snake gave the farmer a expensive pearl and went away.
He said, “I will no more give you any coin.”
The farmer took the pearl and left cursing the sins of his son.

BUTTERFLY
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.
Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.
What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us.
We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly!
I asked for Strength.........
And God gave me Difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for Wisdom.........
And God gave me Problems to solve.
I asked for Prosperity.........
And God gave me Brain and Brawn to work.
I asked for Courage.........
And God gave me Danger to overcome.
I asked for Love.........
And God gave me Troubled people to help.
I asked for Favors.........
And God gave me Opportunities.
I received nothing I wanted ........
I received everything I needed!
Trust in God. Always !

Mahukanth and the Jackal
Mahurkanth elephant lived in a forest. His nature was arrogant and cruel. He used to treat himself as the King of the forest. The other animals were afraid of him. He was a very naughty animal. Mahurkanth used to rip of the branches unnecessarily and destroy the eggs and the nest of the poor birds by crushing them under his huge feet.
The elephant was so scary and wild that lions and tigers too were afraid to go near him. The chaos created by the elephant was increasing tremendously. One day the animals decided to kill the elephant. The meeting was held but most of the animals were afraid to kill the animal because of his huge size.
The jackals were very angry because the elephant had devastated their caves. In a fit of rage they called separate meeting to decide the strategy to get rid of the elephant. Thinking of the huge size of the animal, the senior most Jackal said,” We need to use our intelligence to kill the elephant and not our might and power”. Everyone agreed to the decision of the Jackal.
The old jackal went to the Elephant and bowed in front of him to show him some respect and said, ” My King, Can I have the honor to talk to you for a moment?” The Elephant looked at him in surprise and raising his voice said,” How did you come here? Who are you?”
The Jackal humbly said. “I am just a poor animal. You are grand and we respect you greatly. You have a kind heart and all qualities that the King of the jungle must possess. We all animals have decided to crown you as our King.”
The Elephant became happy hearing his praise. The Jackal further said,” All animals are eager to witness the crowning ceremony of the King. They have decided to conduct the crowning ceremony in the forest where all the animals will gather to witness the occasion. And according to our astrologers the ceremony should be done today and hence we request you to come along with us.”
Pleased by the praises of the Jackal, the Elephant got up to go along with the Jackal. The jackal and the elephant went deep inside the forest. On the way to the forest, they came across a swampy region nearby a lake. The jackal being lighter than the elephant could cross the region easily.
But when the Elephant got into the swamp, he got trapped in it. He started struggling but couldn’t come out of the trap. When he was unable to free himself from the region, he shouted at the Jackal for help. He said,” I need your help friend to get out of this dirt. Call you are other friends to rescue me please.”
The Jackal said,” I will not save you. You are arrogant and rude. You have killed and destroyed a lot of animals and their houses. You were never sorry for such harsh behaviors of yours. You deserve to die this way.” The jackal left away, leaving the elephant struggling for his life. After sometime, the elephant unable to come out got sunk into the mud.
Moral : Every oppressor meets his destiny. A person doing bad to others suffers badly himself.

Ganesha and his intelligent decision
On one occasion Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati were gifted a fruit by the other Gods. Both their sons, Ganesha and Karthikeya wished to have the fruit. There was just one fruit and two them wished to have it. The two did not want to have it half. So, finally Lord Shiva decided to solve the dispute by finding out who is the eldest of both. It was not about the age, but about the intelligence that the competition was based on. So Lord Shiva decided that the two would compete on a challenge. The challenge was to go around the world thrice and return back the earliest. The one who finishes the task and returns to them the fastest will win the fruit.
The race started and Karthikeya got over his peacock. Peacock was his vehicle on which Karthikeya used to roam around. He flew all around the earth. On the way he also stopped and paid his homage to the sacred spots and offered prayers for the well being of his family. However, what surprised him the most was that at every stop, he would see Ganesha far ahead of him. Karthikeya was puzzled at that.
Ganesha’s vehicle was the mouse. He very well knew that a mouse and a peacock cannot compete. The peacock would easily beat the mouse in the race. In that sense, he will never be able to win the race.
Ganesha thought for sometime and finally came up with some solution. Instead of circling the world he started walking around his parents, Lord Shiva and Parvati. He completed three rounds with his hands folded. His parents were confused at the sight. They asked the reason why he was revolving around them. On this Ganesha replied that for him his parents mean the world. He need not travel around the world. Ganesha completed his revolution around his parents.
Sometime passed by, and they saw Karthikeya returning on his peacock. He managed to circle the earth on his vehicle. But, when he came back he got to know that Ganesha had already won the competition. Lord Shiva explained to him that Ganesha had won the race on the basis of his quick thinking and intelligence and not on the basis of his strength.
Karthikeya accepted his defeat and bowed in front of Ganesha was his intelligence.

The Cursed Flower
Once upon a time, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu were having an argument. The topic on which they were quarrelling was who amongst the two was superior to the other. When they were fighting, Lord Shiva appeared in front of them in the shape of a light. The light was boundless. It stretched on all directions as far as their eyes could reach. It was like the sky, no boundaries. Brahma and Vishnu then decided, the one who finds the boundaries of the light would win and hence will be the superior of the two.
Lord Vishnu changed his appearance into a boar and Lord Brahma into a swan and proceeded in finding the boundaries. Vishnu went downwards and tried his best but could not find the bottom seam of the light. Brahma on the other hand went upwards to find the upper boundary of the light. But he too proved unsuccessful. However, he saw a flower falling downwards. He caught it and went at the place where the race had started. Lord Vishnu was waiting for Brahma desperately. He feared if Brahma would have found the boundary.
Looking at the desperate and sad look on Vishnu’s face, Brahma thought of lying to Vishnu. He claimed to succeed in finding the upper border of the light. He showed the flower as the proof. He told Vishnu that he had found the flower at the upper border of the light. He plucked it out to show it to him. Vishnu did not agree to the claim. He questioned the flower, whether Brahma was speaking the truth. The flower however said, Brahma was true.
The lie by the flower and Brahma made Lord Shiva angry and furious. Angry Lord Shiva cursed the beautiful flower as a punishment to its lie. The flower was the most beautiful flower of all the flowers that existed. However, after it was cursed by Lord Shiva, it lost all its fragrance and beauty. Since it became an ugly flower, it no longer got the same importance as it earlier did. It was no longer used as an offering during worships.

Basic requirements for self-improvement
Inspirations by Sudhir Krishnan
Many people complain that self-improvement is difficult, and that despite their attempts over a long periods of time, their lives have not really changed. The following are some of the qualities that are required to succeed on the path of self-improvement. If you have not been experiencing the life changing transformation you are seeking , chances are that one or more of these requirements have been missing.
1) Self-Enquiry
The first requirement for self-improvement is acknowledging that you need to improve. The ego constantly maintains that we are good the way we are, and that it is only the world around us that needs to improve. The more suffering you are experiencing in your life, the more you need to immediately improve yourself in some way. Even in the absence of immediate suffering, the fact is that each one of us can become better. Thus, unless you are already spiritually enlightened, you can be sure to have some scope left for improvement, and acknowledging the need to improve is the first step in bringing about an improvement.
2) Being open to seek help
The second requirement for self-improvement is acknowledging that you need help to improve yourself. Books, videos and friends can all be a good source of inspiration, however there is no substitute for a teacher who has walked the path ahead of you. Whether it is a spiritual teacher, life coach or a counselor, what may take you years to learn and implement on your own can be accomplished in just a few months, if only you are willing to work with a mentor. One tip, that probably applies more to men than women is that there is no shame in seeking outside help to create a better you. Even great kings have personal advisors. You don’t have to fight all your battles alone. Having your own mentor is a great privilege and is sure to pay you rich dividends for the rest of your life.
3) Thirst for improvement
The third requirement for self-improvement is a deep thirst to improve, to learn, to grow. Even if you go to the most gifted spiritual teacher/life-coach/counselor, without the deep thirst for improvement, things will not change. That thirst has to come from within, and no one can give it to you. Too many people seek only a band-aid for their current problems, and not long-lasting improvement. They just want to feel better in the moment. Some other seek a counselor as a means to gain sympathy and complain about how bad their life is, instead of actually wanting to learn how to make things better. There is no short-cut to self-improvement. In order to create a better life, a deep thirst for permanent internal transformation is very much needed.
4) Self-confidence
The fourth requirement for self-improvement is self-confidence in your ability to apply what you learn and come out better. Many people upon hearing some new knowledge react saying “That was great information, but too difficult to apply in my life”. If we believe something to be difficult , your mind will find it very challenging to master it - in fact it will bring your attention to all the obstacles due to which you are not likely to succeed. Having the attitude of “This is simple, I can do it, I am a quicker learner” goes a long way in attracting the great results you are after.
5) Putting knowledge to practice
The fifth requirement for self-improvement is to immediately, rigorously and continuously put into practice whatever new knowledge you learn. Many people are well read on self-help /spirituality topics. Some of these people will even proudly give advice to friends and family on how to solve their issues. Some others will discuss/debate high philosophies with other interested parties. However when it comes to their own lives, they are not able to apply the knowledge when needed. Knowledge that is not put into action is simply a burden to carry around in our heads. Knowing something and actually being able to put it to use are completely different things. Also the right knowledge has to be applied in the right way, and in the right context, and this is where an experienced mentor can greatly help. Simply knowing “Like attracts Like” is very different from knowing how to apply law of attraction in the heat of the moment, when your boss, spouse, or child is not happy with you and giving you a real hard time.
6) Having faith in the teacher and process
The sixth requirement for self-improvement is having faith in the teacher as well as the process followed. While it is good to intellectually understand and question the process, being cynical and having too little faith is counterproductive to personal growth. Self-improvement takes a lot of effort and patience, as we are fighting our own subconscious tendencies that we created over a long period of time, using new knowledge we consciously learn and apply. We need to allow the process to work, and give an opportunity to actually experience improvement, thereby increasing our faith and motivation to put more effort. Some people keep changing teachers/processes in the hope that the next teacher/process will bring about some magical change. Again, it helps to look inside ourselves and see how much we are actually learning and putting the knowledge to use, instead of jumping to the conclusion that the teacher is not good enough.
If we sincerely work on meeting all of the above requirements, each one of us can achieve great internal transformation and thus succeed in creating a wonderful life for ourselves. Wishing you great success and joy in your life.

A wise man once sat in the audience & cracked a joke.
All laughed like crazy..
After a moment he cracked the same joke again and a little less people laughed this time.
He cracked the same joke again & again, when there was no laughter in the crowd,
he smiled and said,
“When u can’t laugh on the same joke again & again, then why do u keep crying over the same thing over and over again…”
‘Lets move on’… :) :)
