Hanuman was the most ideal devotee of Lord Rama. As an example from his life, we must learn that Bhakti or devotion to God is very much necessary in our lives.
We all have our own powers and capabilities in us, and we must learn to be humble about them. If we remain proud about them, we might create a reason for our own downfall. We must use our powers and strength only in times of need.
We learn that God does not reside only in a temple – he resides in our own hearts. Hanuman gave up all his needs and surrendered himself fully to Lord Rama when he met him, and remained faithful to him for eternity. He did not accept any valuable article unless it had Rama and Sita in it. This is shown by the incident of the pearl necklace.
If we devote ourselves to the Lord just like Hanuman did, we will develop spiritually and lose all our self-pride and enmity towards anyone. When Ravana captured Hanuman in Lanka, he asked, “Tell me, why did you kill all my demons?” To which Hanuman simply replied, “I killed only those who came to attack me.”

भगवान श्रीराम वनवास काल के दौरान संकट में हनुमान जी द्वारा की गई अनूठी सहायता से अभिभूत थे। एक दिन उन्होंने कहा, 'हे हनुमान, संकट के समय तुमने मेरी जो सहायता की, मैं उसे याद कर गदगद हो उठा हूं। सीता जी का पता लगाने का दुष्कर कार्य तुम्हारे बिना असंभव था। लंका जलाकर तुमने रावण का अहंकार चूर-चूर किया, वह कार्य अनूठा था। घायल लक्ष्मण के प्राण बचाने के लिए यदि तुम संजीवनी बूटी न लाते, तो न जाने क्या होता?' तमाम बातों का वर्णन करके श्रीराम ने कहा, 'तेरे समान उपकारी सुर, नर, मुनि कोई भी शरीरधारी नहीं है। मैंने मन में खूब विचार कर देख लिया, मैं तुमसे उॠण नहीं हो सकता।'
सीता जी ने कहा, 'तीनों लोकों में कोई ऐसी वस्तु नहीं है, जो हनुमान जी को उनके उपकारों के बदले में दी जा सके।'
श्रीराम ने पुन: जैसे ही कहा, 'हनुमान, तुम स्वयं बताओ कि मैं तुम्हारे अनंत उपकारों के बदले क्या दूं, जिससे मैं ॠण मुक्त हो सकूं।'
श्री हनुमान जी ने हर्षित होकर, प्रेम में व्याकुल होकर कहा, 'भगवन, मेरी रक्षा कीजिए- मेरी रक्षा कीजिए, अभिमान रूपी शत्रु कहीं मेरे तमाम सत्कर्मों को नष्ट नहीं कर डाले। प्रशंसा ऐसा दुर्गुण है, जो अभिमान पैदा कर तमाम संचित पुण्यों को नष्ट कर डालता है।' कहते-कहते वह श्रीराम जी के चरणों में लोट गए। हनुमान जी की विनयशीलता देखकर सभी हतप्रभ हो उठे।
