जय सांई राम।।।

एक बार एक गरीब किसान ने गौतम बुद्ध से अपने गांव आने का आग्रह किया। बुद्ध उस गांव में पहुंचे तो गांव के सारे लोग उन्हें देखने के लिए उमड़ पड़े, लेकिन बुद्ध को गांव बुलाने वाले किसान के बैलों की जोड़ी कहीं खो गई। किसान इस दुविधा में फंस गया कि वह बुद्ध का प्रवचन सुनने जाए या अपने बैलों को खोजे। काफी सोचने के बाद उसने अपने बैलों को ही ढूंढने का निर्णय किया।

घंटों भटकने के बाद कहीं जाकर उसे अपने बैल मिले। थका-मांदा किसान घर आते ही भोजन करके सो गया। अगले दिन वह संकोच के साथ बुद्ध के पास गया। बुद्ध उसकी परेशानी समझ गए और बोले, 'मेरी नजर में यह किसान ही मेरा सच्चा अनुयायी है। इसने उपदेशों से अधिक कर्म को महत्व दिया है। अगर कल यह अपने बैल खोजने न जाता और यहां आकर मेरा प्रवचन सुनने लगता तो इसे मेरी कही हुई बातें समझ में नहीं आतीं क्योंकि इसका मन कहीं और भटक रहा होता।'
