    How to select a Mantra

You may sing a cinema song linking it to God in your heart. In such case, that cinema song will bring the grace of God to you and protect you. Others may think that you are attracted to the world by that cinema song. Therefore, your inner intention is going to decide everything. Even if you sing a song related to God to fulfill some worldly desire, it is not Gayatri Mantra. People may misunderstand that you are a devotee of God by hearing such divine song from your mouth. Neither you are a devotee nor is that divine song Gayatri Mantra. You may sing a cinema song of worldly meaning, but if you have directed it to God from your heart, you are a devotee and your song is Gayatri Mantra, even though people misunderstand you as a worldly person. Therefore, the public is not standard. Your intention in your heart is the standard reference for anything.

A mantra should be selected by the devotee himself or herself from the existing mantras or the devotee can convert even a non-mantra (worldly song) into mantra through the intention diverted to God. The guru is like a seller of vegetables keeping all varieties of vegetables before him and the devotee is like the customer, who visits the shop of vegetables and selects the desired vegetables. A devotee can also create his own mantra if he is a poet.

  • Dear Dattaswami Ji,

There are two ways to obtain God. All Love to focus on God (The way adopted by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Ravidas Ji, Hanuman Ji, Meera and farid Ji) or  to develop a sense of detachment (Vairagaya) from material world (Adopted by Lord Buddha, Mahavir, Swami Shivananda etc.)

Music is the most beautiful way to come close to God. As origin of universe is also deemed to be from the sound of “OM”, but this is divine music. Hanuman Ji, Meera, Krishna, Guru Nanak, Kabeer Ji and many other Saints Devotees (Even at many occasions Baba used to sing Bhajan’s) used the way. But comparing Gayatri Mantra with some cinema song is not a Good idea, Dear. A Perfect Yogi who would have attained a stage to feel presence of God all over in all forms of elements, it might be possible, but not for an ordinary man. For a normal human, all senses works together, when tongue speaks a song, brain starts its activity to produce related images in mind and focus is shifted that’s why in many ancient religious places only classic music based (Based on Raga) divine music is permitted. Some modern professional Guru’s surely used bhajans based on cinema songs in such a way to attract crowd by making them pleasing their senses. I don’t want to take name, but most of them are now facing litigation matters either on account of various scandals and scams.

Also Mantra’s have its own power, if pronounced correctly, Brain gets vibrated at such a level and spirit is connected direct to lord. Just to make more clear it is like to start scoter or bike with a perfect kick. (in that world shortcut of self start system does not exist). Gaytri Mantra is so powerful if one chant with complete devotion and concentration then each word can create so much of energy to activate many deactivated cells of brain and even could make to get on path of Kundalini awaken. Devotees of Hanumaj Jo could better understand this, who chant hanuman chalisa feeling presence of Lord Hanuman Ji.

    Jai Sai Ram!

The real meaning of Gayatri Mantra

'Gayatri' means the song of God that protects all the human beings irrespective of caste and sex [Gayaan traayate iti]. Thus, any song of God that attracts your mind provoking you to sing again and again so that the knowledge conveyed by it is constantly revised. Today, people are chanting some hymn of Veda present in a meter called 'Gayatri' without any trace of singing and which does not attract your mind to repeat and revise the knowledge again and again, is considered as 'Gayatri Mantra'! In view of the actual concept, it cannot be treated as 'Gayatri Mantra'.

The foolish priests are stamping such hymn as 'Gayatri Mantra' and further say that the females and other castes are not eligible for it. First of all, what you say as 'Gayatri Mantra' is not 'Gayatri Mantra' at all in view of its actual concept. This is the first mistake. The second mistake is to deny such false 'Gayatri Mantra' to ladies and other castes. 'Gayatri' means any song of God in any mother tongue that protects any soul [Gaya] irrespective of caste and sex.

The third mistake is to treat 'Gayatri Mantra' as a female deity, which actually means singing on God in any convenient language. The fourth mistake is to deny 'Gayatri Mantra' to females for which a female deity is super imposed and reject all the female souls as not eligible. Thus, the actual concept is totally buried and a chain of misinterpretations have buried the true concept resulting in blind tradition of ignorance.
