    Ganesh Prarthana - 2

This is a short Prarthana or prayer in the Marathi language which is recited in praise of Ganesha or Ganapati. This is normally a part of a longer prarthana which is very popular and recited in praise of various deities.

Here I have taken only the first verse as I feel it is sufficient as the entire devotion of the worshipper is signified in this verse, also it makes the prayer easy to recite everyday and the worshipper does not get tired by monotonous repetitions.

    Meaning

I prostrate and salute your feet l
My eyes will drink in your beauty l
I will hug you and pray happily l
With devotion I will take your name ll

    Shri Ganesh Prarthana

    Shri Ganesh Abhang - 2

Ganesha Worship consists of devotional compositions in the  Marathi language, known as Abhangs. These Abhangs or Prarthanas were prayers composed by realized saints of the middle ages from Maharashtra. The language used is the old Marathi script which is not spoken anymore.

This here is a beautifully composed Abhang with a profound meaning. In this particular Abhang the worshipper is only asking to be one with his lord. The worshipper does not ask for any material gains, he only wants Ganesha to guide and be with him during his journey through life. He has surrendered completely his entire life to Ganesha and wants nothing more than the blessing of Ganesha and the ultimate liberation in life and freedom from the unending cycle of birth and death.

    Ganpati Aarti - English - Marathi - 3

This is another Aarti in the  Marathi Language recited in praise of Ganpati, who as I have many times said in my earlier posts is the most popular of Hindu Gods in the state of Maharashtra, and the most worshiped.
Ganpati is the remover of all obstacles and difficulties which come your way; hence he is also called by the name ‘Vidhna Vinashak’—the remover of obstacles. This is just one amongst the countless qualities attributed to him.
This Aarti has been translated in to the English Language from the original Marathi. I get lots of mail from my readers, that the exact pronunciations are not possible in the English version. This is true, but very helpful for someone with some knowledge of Marathi or Hindi.

  • Ganesh Chaturthi - A Satvik Festival

The popular festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated with great fervor all over Maharashtra and also in other parts of India. Here I have to add that Ganesha Worship is Satvik or pure worship.Ganesha stands for the Eternal God, the God of all beginnings amongst countless qualities attributed to him.

Hence all beginnings have to commence in a Satvik manner, this is so because a Satvik beginning always ensures a Satvik chain reaction.

Here I would like to give an example of an extremely wealthy politician know to me. This person has risen to a position of prominence from extremely humble beginnings. He owns numerous diverse businesses apart from being a well known politician.

This person is also a great devotee of Ganesha and has constructed a temple of Ganesha some 25 to 30 years back.Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great fanfare by this man and his family.

Today I noticed a big Havan being performed by about 50 priests in his Pandal in front of the idol of Ganesha. The smoke and smell rising out of the Havan was everywhere.

This Pandal is located next to a luxury hotel owned by this person. In the premises facing the road and just next to his Ganesh Pandal is a Kathi Kabab Stall also owned by the same person. This is a small stall which does roaring business throughout the year.

The thing I couldn’t help noticing was that the smoke from the Havan was mingling with the smoke arising from the Kathi Kabab Stall. Thus spread across the entire area was the smell of the Satvik ingredients used in the Havan and the strong smell of roasted meat coming from the Kathi Kabab Stall.

What was astonishing was this wealthy politician is so much in love of money that it did not cross his mind to close the Stall for just a couple of hours. This guy for the first time in his political career has suffered a set back in the elections. Probably greed is getting the better of him.

  • Ganesha Mantras

    Beejakshara mantra

Sri Ganapati is the elephant headed son of Sri Shiva, belonging to the divine family that delivers the soul from darkness and sin, the specific function of Sri Ganapati is to teach and drive away ignorance (avidhya). He is represented by Ketu, the significator of emancipation from all kinds of bondage including rebirth.
The Beejakshara of Sri Ganapati is ‘gaM’
Bīja mantra: गं (gaṁ) which is also called the Gītā bīja (for Srimad Bhagavat Gītā) by those learned in mantra śāstra. This is the starter of everything and just like the Bhagavat Gītā, provides the power to assimilate all knowledge.

Tantrika bīja (physical abilities and strength): गङ्ग् (gaṅg) which sounds like Gaṅga

    Vidya-Siddhi Mantra

The fourth house rules education and learning. Any affliction coming on this houses causes loss of learning, breaks in education and the mind has problems in focusing on studies. This phenomena is marked in children between 3 to 12 years of age due to the natural impact of Mercury (Naisargika dasa). This is caused due to the shad-ripu or the six flaws that cause tamas guna to prevail. A mantra that removes the energies from the sixth house and places them at the fourth house will help in rectifying the problem. One such mantra is given below as it has six words (sixth house energies removed) and sixteen syllables (fourth house spiritual energy added).

    Siddha Mantra: नमो गणपते तुभ्यं ज्येष्ठज्येष्ठाय ते नमः
namo gaṇapate tubhyaṁ jyeṣṭhajyeṣṭhāya te namaḥ

This mantra is fully protected on both sides, a technical term called saṁpuṭa, by the word नम (nama). This word is means obeisances or bowing with complete humility and is of neuter (napunsaka) gender. The mantra brings humility in children and they learn to bow to the teacher, elders, books and the knowledge. Just as water flows from a higher level to a lower level, so also the knowledge and good qualities will flow from a head in the higher level to the bowing head at a lower level.
    Karya Siddhi Mantra

How many times have you said or heard ‘if only I had persisted’ or ‘I should have been stronger’? Strength of mind and body to achieve is a rare gift seen in the great achievers. This is called Parakrama bala or the ability to drive themselves towards the goal and become great men.

The third house has the energies that can be used for sexual activity (in fact the third house is called maithuna bhava implying sexual union), fighting or any physical action. The fifth house is the seat of the thought that causes this action and the tenth house indicates the action itself. A mantra that takes the energies of the third house to the tenth (or other) house is the best for daily practice as it reduces the sexuality and bestiality in men helping them to focus better on the work at hand. The following is a three word (takes energy from the third house), ten syllable (deposits the spiritual energy into the tenth house) mantra where the deity sits in the fifth house. This mantra finds mention in the Mahā Nārāyaṇa Upaniṣad.

    Siddha Mantra: ॐ महागणपतये नमः
    om mahāgaṇapataye namaḥ
    Labha-Siddhi mantra

If every thought which is the seed for action is successfully concluded, we would be the happiest people in the world. Alas this does not happen and we are left wondering as to the cause of the obstruction and spend money, material and other resources trying to achieve the objective.

A mantra that takes the energies of the fifth house to the eleventh house would be the best as it converts the knowledge (fifth house) to gains (eleventh house). Such a delightful mantra that helps us to achieve objectives is given in the Shiva Purana. It is said that Ganesha has two śaktī – (1) Siddhi devī giving all abilities and accomplishments and (2) Buddhi devī – giving supreme intelligence and sharp mind. They have two children (1) Lakṣa (goal attainment) which comes from Siddhi and (2) Lābha (gains of hopes and desires) which comes from Buddhi devī. Both these objectives are in the 10th (Lakṣa) and 11th (Lābha) houses. In the natural zodiac these houses are ruled by Saturn – Capricorn and Aquarius, making them difficult to achieve due to various weaknesses that people possess. This mantra removes the ills of Saturn that plague mankind and makes the sādhaka very competent and brilliant. It is strongly recommended if Saturn is either ātmakāraka or aspects the Lagna (or Lagneśa) in the chart. No doubt that the Śiva Purāṇa gives much emphasis to this mantra.

    Purāṇa Mantra: ॐ लक्षलाभयुताय सिद्धि-बुद्धि-सहिताय गणपतये नमः
    om lakṣalābhayutāya siddhi-buddhi-sahitāya gaṇapataye namaḥ

  • Ganesh Mantra to remove obstacles

More often than not the solution for obstacles is simpler than you think. For the Satvik [pure] people this is a simple Ganesh Mantra to remove obstacles.

The meaning of this Mantra is even simpler – I bow to the Ganesha; whose rule extends over all obstacles.
    Ganesh Mantra to remove obstacles

    Om Vigneshwaraya Namaha

The Mantra can be best chanted 108 times daily or when you feel that you are faced with some obstacle. With the blessings of Ganesha that obstacle will be removed from your path.
