Guru is necessary for a man

After bath, worship the lotus feet of your Guru, or his image or picture with flowers,fruits, incense and camphor.
Fast or take only milk and fruits the whole day .

In the afternoon, sit with other devotees of  your Guru and discuss with them the glories and teachings of your Guru.

"Alternatively, you may observe the vow of silence and study the books or writings of  your Guru, or mentally reflect upon his teachings. Take fresh resolves on this day, to tread the spiritual path inaccordance with the precepts of your Guru.

hari kirpa tab janiye, de manav  awatar;
            guru kirpa tab janiye, mukta kare sansar.

Meaning
 
Know that it is the grace of God that gave you human birth.
But it is the grace of the Guru that liberates you from the cycle of birth and death.
 
Commentary

In this human life you can obtain salvation; therefore thank God that you got a human life. But you are still a victim of rebirth, therefore thank the Guru whose grace frees you from the cycle of birth and death. This is the greatness of the Guru.

guru bichara kya kare, sikhahi mahi chuk;
            bhawe tyon parmodhiye, bans bajaye phunk.
 
Meaning

What can the poor Guru do if the disciple has faults?
He gives knowledge but it becomes useless, just as a broken flute does not produce music.

Commentary

The disciple must have faith, courage, and patience on the path of God. He must try to accept discriminative spiritual knowledge from the Guru and keep it in his mind. If he does not, the Guru cannot be blamed, because the Guru can only guide, but the disciple has to walk himself.

Guru is the important part of our life. Guru plays a vital role in boosting the aspirant frequently, when he becomes despondent or simply runs out of steam. Gurus can lead one on the path of happiness and help in attaining salvation from worldly existence.
 
The “Gurus” are considered to represent God himself. Guru is the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance and infuses the light of awareness into our lives.

If meditating  on Supreme pure consciousness is not possible

If meditating  on Supreme pure consciousness is not possible. Then meditate on my manifest form. Bring to mind by day and by night, my figure from head to foot, with all it's attributes.

There is a beautiful story told about a man who wanted to walk on water. He beggedhis guru to give him a secret mantra or aspecial boon so he could complete thisremarkable feat. The man was extremely pious and devoted, and he had been in his guru’s service for many years. Therefore,the guru gave him a leaf, folded many timesuntil it was very small. He told his disciple, “Within this leaf is a secret formula which  will enable you to walk on water. However, you must not open it because the formula inside is a secret.”
 So the man agreed, and he takes the foldedleaf carefully in his hands and begins his  journey across the river. He is walking fine when suddenly he is overcome by curiosity. What could be this secret formula? Is therereally a secret inside? Is it a powder or astone or some holy mantra printed? Wheredid his guru get it? His doubts get the bestof him and he begins slowly to open the leaf as he walks, careful lest any of the secretformula should spill out into the water. Assoon as he unfolds the last piece to unveilthe secret, he suddenly sinks into the waterand drowns. Inside the leaf was written the simple word, “faith.”
 
 It was not the leaf, nor any secret powder ormantra that enabled the devotee toaccomplish a miracle. It was the strength of his faith in his guru and in the “boon” his  guru had given him. As soon as that faith wavered and doubt crept in, his life was lost. This is the power of faith.

The tender glance of the Guru is as a shower of nectar, which brings to the disciple the nourishment of self-rejoicing.

My stories which you hear from your ear. If you store them in your heart, you will have opened up yourself a mine of your own weal and all your sins will be washed away.

The wise and discriminating have no admiration or attachment to transient, but to attain the permanent.

The importance of Meditation

The importance of meditation is greater than that of knowledge. But for that , the right knowledge about the object of meditation is needed.

When the repeated contemplation becomes perfect

When the repeated contemplation becomes perfect and the difference between the meditation and meditator  disappears, then the mind becomes calm and steady, like the lamp on the windless night. This is Samadhi.

The innermost self is God himself

The innermost self is God himself and He who is God is also the Guru. There is not slightest difference between these three.
