  • My devotee feels Me in you, in himself and in all creatures
My devotee feels Me in you, in himself and in all creatures and sees all as his Guru.
    He will become myself.
A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?
The mind that judges not others ever remains tension-free.

  • As long as a mirror is covered with dust and dirt.
As long as a mirror is covered with dust and dirt, so long it cannot reflect the Sun. Once the dust and dirt is scrubbed away, the Sun shines forth. Similarly with our mind. As long as it is filled with evil thoughts and insatiable desires, so long it cannot reflect the self within.

  • Guru and Disciple

For the sake of the Goal, a disciple must be willing to give up everything petty, and most important of all, be willing to give oneself up, to renounce one’s little self, to renounce the very reality of one’s temporary, earthly being. “Whoever clings to his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life shall save it.” “Kill this little ‘I’. Die to live. Lead the divine life.”

Therefore our ancients have said: “This can be attained through discipleship. Go to a Guru, sit at his feet and ask for his knowledge.” The Guru says: “Yes, I am here to remove the ignorance that is your bondage and give you knowledge.”

Thus the essence of the Guru is to remove the ignorance that is the cause of bondage, sorrow and suffering. And the essence of the disciple is a keen eagerness, a great desire to be free from ignorance—the essential nature of which is ego—and attain illumination. Unless there is this willingness, this deep eagerness to attain illumination, then the disciple is no disciple. A hundred Gurus cannot help unless the disciple has a great desire for liberation and is seeking to get rid of that which stands in the way.
A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?
The mind that judges not others ever remains tension-free.

  • Duties And Privileges Of Discipleship

    Yasya Deve Para Bhaktir-Yatha Deve Tatha Gurau;
    Tasyaite Kathita Hyarthah Prakashante Mahatmanah.

He whose devotion to the Lord is great, and who has as much devotion to the Guru as to the Lord, unto him, that high-souled one, meanings of the sacred texts stand revealed (Svetasvatara Upanishad).

A disciple is he who follows the instructions of the Guru to the letter and spirit, who propagates the teachings of the Guru to less evolved souls in the path till the end of his life.

A true disciple is concerned only with the Divine Nature of the Guru. The Guru’s actions as man is not the disciple’s concern. He is totally oblivious of it. To him, the Guru is Guru even if he acts unconventionally. Always remember that the nature of a saint is unfathomable. Judge him not. Measure not his divine nature with the inadequate yardstick of your ignorance. Criticise not your Guru’s action which is done on universal vision.

True discipleship opens the vision. It kindles the spiritual fire. It awakens the dormant faculties. It is most necessary in one’s journey along the spiritual path. Guru and disciple become one. Guru blesses, guides and inspires the disciple. He transmits, transforms and spiritualises him.
A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?

  • Who Is Qualified To Approach The Guru?

To approach a Guru, you must be a proper Adhikari. Correct understanding, non-attachment to worldly objects, serenity of mind, restraint of the senses, absence of base passions, faith in the Guru and devotion to God are necessary equipment with which the aspirant has to approach the Guru.

The Guru will impart spiritual instructions only to that aspirant who thirsts for liberation, who duly obeys the injunctions of the Sastras, who has subdued his passions and senses, who has a calm mind, and who possesses virtuous qualities like mercy, cosmic love, patience, humility, endurance, forbearance, etc. Initiation into the mysteries of Brahman will fructify only when the disciple’s mind becomes desireless, and will produce Jnana in it.

  • GURU-SEVA

Aspirants should direct their whole attention in the beginning towards the removal of selfishness by protracted service to the Guru. Serve your Guru with divine Bhava(feeling). The cancer of individuality will be dissolved.

The captain of a ship is ever alert. A fisherman is ever alert. A surgeon in the operation theatre is ever alert. Even so, a thirsting hungry disciple should be ever alert in the service of his Guru.

Live to serve the Guru. You must watch for opportunities. Do not wait for invitation. Volunteer yourself for the Guru's service.

Serve your Guru humbly, willingly, unquestioningly, unassumingly, ungrudgingly, untiringly, and lovingly. The more your energy you spend in serving your Guru, the more the divine energy will flow into you.

He who serves the Guru serves the whole world. Serve the Guru without selfish ends. Scrutinise your inner motives while doing service to the Guru. Service must be done to the Guru without expectation of name, fame, power, wealth, etc.
A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?

  • Guru Seva

The first step on the spiritual path is selfless service of the guru. Serving the guru is the corner stone of the citadel of immortality. Discrimination, dispassion, and aspiration are the pillars. Eternal bliss is the super structure. Serve the guru, the poor and the sick. Guru seva is worship of God. Never forget this. Purify the intellect. A pure intellect helps you to reach the door of intuition and attain self-realization.

Aspirants should direct their whole attention in the beginning towards the removal of selfishness by protracted guru seva. Serve your guru with divine bhava. Guru seva and self-surrender to guru open the heart, expand the consciousness and deepen the spirit. Guru seva is the means by which the mind is prepared for meditation. Guru seva will not hinder your practice of meditation. On the other hand, it purifies your heart and helps you in meditation.

God can best be served or worshipped through guru seva. An hour’s guru seva with divine bhava is worth more than a year’s pilgrimage to tirthas. Guru seva alone can purify your heart and fill it with divine virtues. Guru seva alone can take you to the door of intuition and the realm of infinite bliss. Through guru seva, develop the heart and clean the mind. Cheerfully serve your guru who is God in disguise. The secret of sadhana is guru seva. It is the guide post to emancipation.

Live to serve the guru. Be prepared to do willingly any work assigned by him. By doing so you will develop your willpower. Serve him humbly, willingly, unquestioningly, unassumingly, ungrudgingly, untiringly and lovingly. There is no such thing as menial service in guru seva. Every form of seva is worship of God. The more energy you spend in serving your guru, the more divine energy will flow into you.

One who serves the guru serves the whole world. Serve the guru without selfish ends, without expectation of name, fame, power, wealth, etc. Unless a disciple serves the guru with bhava and purifies his heart, he lives in vain. His meditation will not bear fruit. The world is burning with misery and suffering. You are caught up in the wheel of samsara. Wake up! Approach the guru. Serve him with love. Serve untiringly. This will purify your heart. You will attain liberation and everlasting bliss.

Serve your guru with heart and soul, with burning love and a fiery spirit of sacrifice. The salt of life is service to guru. The bread of life is devotion to guru. Guru seva is your way, love of guru is your ideal and his grace is your light.

  • The True Disciple

A true disciple is one who follows the instructions of the guru to the very letter and spirit and who propagates the teachings of the guru to less evolved souls on the path till the end of his life. A true disciple is concerned only with the divine nature of the guru. The guru’s actions as a man are not his concern. To him the guru is guru, even if he acts unconventionally. Always remember that the nature of a saint is unfathomable. Do not judge him. Do not measure his divine nature with the inadequate yardstick of your ignorance. Do not criticise your guru’s actions which are based on a universal vision.

The guru teaches through personal example. His day to day conduct is a living ideal for the observant disciple. His life is a living sermon to the sincere disciple. By constant contact, the disciple imbibes the virtues of the guru. He is moulded gradually. The disciple becomes like his guru after some time by following his instructions to the very letter.

The best way to express your adoration of the guru is to follow his noble example. Live according to the lines indicated by him. Have him as your ideal. Struggle to build yourselves upon that model. This will be the most effective pooja of your gurudeva and the most pleasing guru dakshina.

The guru will impart spiritual instructions only to the aspirant who thirsts for liberation, who duly obeys the injunctions of the shastras, who has subdued his senses and passions, who has a calm mind and who possesses virtuous qualities like mercy, cosmic love, patience, humility, endurance, forbearance and honesty. Initiation into the mysteries of Brahman will fructify only when the disciple’s mind becomes pure and desireless.

One’s individual ego, preconceived notions, pet ideas and selfish interests should be given up. All these stand in the way of carrying out the teachings and instructions of one’s guru. Gurukripa begins to work only when you surrender fully to guru. Intense devotion to one’s guru and faithful adherence to his teachings are the most essential qualifications of a true disciple. Guru’s grace descends upon those who feel utterly humble and faithful to him. The disciple who has faith in the guru argues not, thinks not and reasons not. He simply obeys, obeys and obeys.

The lower nature must be thoroughly regenerated. The aspirant says to his preceptor: “I want to practise yoga. I want to enter into nirvikalpa samadhi. I want to sit at your feet. I have surrendered myself to you.” But he does not want to change his lower nature and habits, old character, behaviour and conduct. One’s individual ego, preconceived notions, pet ideas, prejudices and selfish interests should be given up. All these stand in the way of carrying out the teachings and instructions of one’s guru.

Lay bare to your guru the secrets of your heart. The more you do so, the greater the guru’s sympathy, which means you will have more strength in the struggle against temptation. Divine grace comes only when there is a real thirst in the aspirant, when he is fit to receive it. The best disciple is like petrol. Even from a distance he will instantly react to the spark of the guru’s spiritual advice.

The disciple’s self-surrender to the guru and the guru’s grace are interrelated. Surrender draws down the guru’s grace, and the grace of the guru makes the surrender complete. Guru’s grace works in the form of sadhana in the aspirant. If an aspirant sticks to the path tenaciously, this is the grace of guru. If he resists when temptation assails him, this is the grace of guru. If people receive him with love and reverence, this is the grace of guru. If he gets encouragement and strength when he is in despair and despondency, this is the grace of guru. If he overcomes body-consciousness and rests in his own blissful Self, this is the grace of guru. Feel his grace at every step, and be sincere and truthful to him.

True discipleship opens the vision and kindles the spiritual fire. It awakens the dormant faculties. It is most necessary on one’s journey along the spiritual path, at the end of which the guru and disciple become one. The guru blesses, guides and inspires the disciple. He transmits his spiritual power to him. He transforms and spiritualizes him.

If the disciple survives after the guru leaves his mortal body, he should lead the remaining portion of his life strictly in accordance with his guru’s instructions and live to preach them to others by practising them himself. One who, with self-control and spiritual vision, serves his guru with atmabhava is a true disciple. A true disciple is one who serves his guru till the end of his life.

A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?
The mind that judges not others ever remains tension-free.

  • Why A Guru

The word guru means 'dispeller of darkness'. Of course, this is not the darkness of the night, but the darkness of your being. The ignorance is the darkness and the guru represents the light, the elimination of darkness. So, the one from whom we seek the light is called the guru. Of course, the light is already within, but this inner light is only a small flame which needs fuel to increase its luminosity. We therefore need initiation from the outer light, which we call guru. His light removes the darkness.

In order to find the guru, you need to search or else to wait for the right moment. Some people make a mountain, photograph or statue their guru, but generally it is easier to relate to a guru in human form. Yet a true guru is not to be defined in the physiological sense. Actually, when you realise the need for a guru, you seek the person who can show you the inner guide, who can communicate with your inner self. Guru is not concerned with the superficial level.

It is difficult to find a guru and difficult to remain with the same guru. Just as there are so many divorces in modern life due to the failure of communication, similarly disciples have been divorcing their gurus because of this same failure. So, before seeking a guru it is essential to prepare yourself by spiritual practices for a considerable time and widen the dimension of your knowledge. Get yourself spiritually matured, then your selection of guru will be without fault and the relationship will definitely be successful.
A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?
The mind that judges not others ever remains tension-free.

  • Don't hunt for a very great guru. A disciple has to judge himself, and he should know where he stands. According to his status, he must select a guru. If a little boy in primary school seeks tuition from a big professor at the university, the professor will not be able to teach him anything, nor will the child be able to assimilate any knowledge.

When you take initiation, the guru will give you some small practice which must be done regularly. This regularity is the basis for higher yoga. The guru may ask you to practise mantra for only five or ten minutes daily. At first this may seem very little to you, but the test is in maintaining the practice. Many disciples spend hours in useless talk and useless work, yet they find it very difficult to spare only five minutes either in the morning or evening to practise mantra, pranayama, or a few simple asanas. In the life of a disciple, regularity is sadhana, regularity is spiritual training in itself.
A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?
The mind that judges not others ever remains tension-free.

  • The Guru is Knowledge Supreme.
He comes into the life Of His devotees
    As the eternal light.
    Surrender to the Guru
    That holds in His hands
The reigns of the seven horses
The body, the senses, the sense organs,
The mind, the intellect, the ego and the soul.
Those that give up these reigns
    Ride this journey of life
    Surrounded and immersed
    In the Atmic Truth.

  • Once you have surrendered to the guru completely, you become as free as a bird, able to fly anywhere or do anything. So do not be afraid of surrender; commit yourself and discover the infinity.
If you make yourself humble and open, like a river, you will have no choice but to flow on to the ocean. You will flow by whichever way is meant for you, whether it is through the jungle, mountain or rocks. The river's course may seem narrow at the beginning, but eventually it will take you to the clear, open sea.
