OUT OF BOX THINKING

While passing by a group of elephants, one suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg.  No chains, no cages.  It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not.

The trainer was near by and when asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away, he replied:

"Well, when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it is enough to hold them.  As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away.  They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."

Amazingly, these animals which could at any time break free from their bonds, because they believed they couldn't, they were struck right where they were.

"LIKE ELEPHANTS, HOW MANY OF US GO THROUGH LIFE HANGING ONTO A BELIEF THAT WE CAN'T DO SOMETHING,
SIMPLY BECAUSE WE FAILED AT IT ONCE BEFORE?"

What a beautiful way of comparing the bondage -
    the bondage that is unreal,
the bondage that has no significance,
the bondage that is totally imaginary / an illusion due to which,
we are rotated in the cycle of rebirths.

This reminds me of a story.

There lived a King. After having enjoyed all the worldly pleasures to his satisfaction, he seeks the advice of his ministers as to how he can get relieved from these worldly attachments and attain self realisation.

Several discourses given by his ministers go in vain in due course of time.

Finally, he calls for his chief minister and complains to him that his ministers have failed to properly advise him in getting detached to the worldly affairs.

The wise chief minister takes the King to one of the pillars in the Mahal and he hugs one of them tight and starts shouting "Release me....Release me...". The king tries his level best to pull out him from it away in vain, since the chief minsiter is applying force in the opposite direction, hugging the pillar tight.

The King shouts at him saying as long as he, himself tried to get rid of it, how
was it possible for the king to rescue.

Then, the chief minister, leaving the pillar replies the king, "...the same way, unless you decide and try to come out of these bondages, you can not get rid of this worldly affairs and attain self realisation".

The legend posted by you is a fantastic similarity. We, the human beings everybody knows the fact that this bondage/attachments with this society are unreal,  inconsequence, an illution and which ends without glory.

The king himself knows the fact in his words to the chief minister how to come out from the worldly attachments to get self realisation.
"The King shouts at him saying as long as he, himself tried to get rid of it, how
was it possible for the king to rescue"

If we realise ourself,  undoubtedly  we can do anything.  Nothing is impossible if we  wholeheartedly surrender to Sri Sai.

CREDIBLE SIGNICANCE KAVITHAJI.  May Sai bless you and your family for ever and ever.

    With best regards
