  •  Radha had her own life and Krishna had his own life

Krishna's youthful dalliances with the 'gopis' are interpreted as symbolic of the loving interplay between God and the human soul. Radha's utterly rapturous love for Krishna and their relationship is often interpreted as the quest for union with the divine. This kind of love is of the highest form of devotion in Vaishnavism, and is symbolically represented as the bond between the wife and husband or beloved and lover.

Radha, daughter of Vrishabhanu, was Krishna's lover during that period of his life when he lived among the cowherds of Vrindavan. Since childhood they were close to each other - they played, they danced, they fought, they grew up together and wanted to be together forever, but the world pulled them apart. He departed to safeguard the virtues of truth, and she waited for him. He vanquished his enemies, became the king, and came to be worshipped as a lord of the universe. She waited for him. He married Rukmini and Satyabhama, raised a family, fought the great war of Ayodhya, and she still waited. So great was Radha's love for Krishna that even today her name is uttered whenever Krishna is refered to, and Krishna worship is though to be incomplete without the deification of Radha.

One day the two most talked about lovers come together for a final single meeting. Suradasa in his Radha-Krishna lyrics relates the various amorous delights of the union of Radha and Krishna in this ceremonious 'Gandharva' form of their wedding in front of five hundred and sixty million people of Vraj and all the gods and goddesses of heaven. The sage Vyasa refers to this as the 'Rasa'. Age after age, this evergreen love theme has engrossed poets, painters, musicians and all Krishna devotees alike.

  • Radha is Krishna's eternal consort. Like the sun and sunshine, Krishna and Radha are one. Radha was born in Barsana, a village about 8 kilometers from Vrindavan (in Uttar Pradesh), to the cowherd Vrishabhanu and his wife, Kamalavati. She was the dearest childhood friends of Krishna. Her love for Krishna was all consuming for she willingly ignored all the societal mores and obligations.

There were many gopis who were in love with Krishna, but it was the love of Radha that attracted Krishna towards them. It was Radha who gave the greatest pleasure to Krishna. In the divine relationship that was shared between Krishna and Radha it was Radha who played the dominant partner.

The Rasleela or the love game between Radha and Krishna was the embodiment of passion, devotion and spiritual. The Radha Krishna love for each other is pure and transcendental. It is said Krishna, the most loving god of Indian pantheon took immense delight in loving relationships for which he expanded himself into his feminine entity Radha. Therefore Radha is not different from Krishna but two entities with a single soul. . She was the shakti (energy) and like Krishna was the source of supreme godliness.

Radha is known by many names like the Govinda-anandini (one who gives pleasure to Govinda- the Krishna), Govinda mohini (one who enchants Radha), Shiromani Sarva-kanta- (the crown jewel of Lord's concert). One of her names Hara forms a part of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra (vocative).

Today Radha and Krishna are universal symbols of lover and the beloved and are worshipped with complete devotion and respect all over the world.

  • Srimati Radharani is the Supreme Goddess. She is most always seen with Lord Krishna. It is described that She is the Chief Associate and devotee of Lord Krishna, and topmost of all Goddesses. Her name means the She is the most excellent worshiper of Lord Krishna. However, She is also an expansion of the Lord's energy. Since She is also an extension of Krishna, She is the feminine aspect of God. Thus, in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, God is both male and female. They are One, but Krishna expands into two, Himself and Radharani, for the sake of divine loving pastimes. If They remained as One, then there is no relationship, there are no pastimes, and there can be no dynamic exchange of love. (Caitanya-caritamrita, Adi-lila, 4.55-56) Actually, if we all remained merged or amalgamated into one single force or light, then there is no further need of anything else. There certainly would be no need for the material manifestation to provide the innumerable conditioned souls with the means to seek out the way to satisfy their senses, minds, emotions, desires for self-expression, intellectual pursuits, and on and on.

So, similarly, the spiritual world is the manifestation wherein all souls have the opportunity to engage in a multitude of pastimes in loving relationships in full spiritual variety, without the many hindrances we find in this material world. The only difference is that the spiritual world is centered around the Supreme Being. And that Supreme Personality has expanded Himself into Radharani for exhibiting the supreme loving relationship, in which so many others assist Them.

In the Brihad-Gautamiya Tantra, Radharani is described as follows:

    devi krishna-mayi prokta

    radhika para-devata

    sarva-lakshmi-mayi sarva

    kantih sammohini para

"The transcendental goddess Srimati Radharani is the direct counterpart of Lord Sri Krishna. She is the central figure for all the goddesses of fortune. She possesses all the attractiveness to attract the all-attractive Personality of Godhead. She is the primeval internal potency of the Lord."

To explain further, Srimati Radharani is also the source of the other goddesses, who are expansions of Her. Just as Lord Krishna is the source of all other expansions and incarnations of God, Radharani is the source of all other expansions of the energies of God, the shaktis, or other goddesses. Thus, Vishnu, Rama, even Shiva are all expansions of the one Supreme Being, and similarly Lakshmi, Sita, and even Durga are all expansions of this Supreme Feminine form of God, Radharani.

It is explained that the beloved consorts of Lord Krishna are of three kinds, namely the goddesses of fortune or Lakshmis, His queens, and the milkmaids of Vraja called the gopis. All of them proceed from Radharani. The Lakshmis are partial manifestations, or plenary portions, of Srimati Radharani, while the queens in Vaikuntha and in Dvaraka are reflections of Her image. The Vraja-devis or gopis are Her expansions and assist in the increase of rasa, or the divine loving pastimes. Among them there are many groups that have various sentiments and moods, which help Lord Krishna taste the sweetness of the rasa dance and other pastimes. (Cc.Adi-lila. 4. 75-81)

"Among the gopis of Vrindavana, Srimati Radharani and another gopi are considered chief. However, when we compare the gopis, it appears that Srimati Radharani is most important because Her real feature expresses the highest ecstasy of love. The ecstasy of love experienced by the other gopis cannot be compared to that of Srimati Radharani." (Ujjvala-nilamani 4.3 of Srila Rupa Gosvami)

Radharani has many names according to Her qualities and characteristics. Some of the names that Radharani is known by include Govinda-anandini--She who gives pleasure to Govinda [Krishna]; Govinda-mohini--She who mystifies Govinda; Govinda-sarvasa--the all-in-all of Lord Govinda; Shiromani Sarva-kanta--the crown jewel of all the Lord's consorts; and Krishnamayi--the one who sees Krishna both within and without. She is also called Radhika in the Puranas because Her worship [aradhana] of the Lord consists of fulfilling His desires. Aradhana is the root of the name Radharani, which indicates one who excels in worshiping the Lord. She is also called Sarva-lakshmi, the original source of all the goddesses of fortune. This also means that She is the supreme energy of Lord Krishna, and represents His six opulences, which include fame, fortune, strength, wealth, knowledge, and detachment. She is also known as Sarva-kanti, which indicates that all beauty and luster rest in Her body, and all the Lakshmis derive their beauty from Her. It also means that all the desires of Lord Krishna rest in Srimati Radharani. As Lord Krishna enchants the world with His beauty and charm, Sri Radha enchants Him. Therefore She is the Supreme Goddess. Sri Radha is the full power, and Lord Krishna is the possessor of full power. (Cc.Adi-lila, 4.82, 84, 87-96) Thus, the two are non-different, as the sunshine is nondifferent from the sun, or as the energy is non-different from the energetic or source of energy.

In this way, without Radha there is no meaning to Krishna and without Krishna there is no meaning to Radha. Because of this, in the Vaishnava tradition we always pay respects first to the Lord's internal energy in the form of Radha, and then to the Lord. Thus They are referred to as Radha-Krishna, or in other names as Sita-Rama, Lakshmi-Narayana, and so on. In this way, Radha and Krishna are one, but when Lord Krishna wants to enjoy, He manifests Himself as Radharani. Otherwise, there is no energy in which Krishna can attain pleasure outside Himself.

To understand Himself through the agency of Radha, or the hladini-shakti, the Lord manifests Himself as Lord Chaitanya, who is Lord Krishna but with the super-excellent emotions of Radharani's love toward Lord Krishna. This is because the Lord accepts a position and the emotions of a devotee in order to fully taste His own sweetness.

It is also described that the potency of love of God is called hladini, the Lord's pleasure potency. Whenever the Lord wants to enjoy pleasure, He exhibits His own spiritual potency known as hladini. And the essence of that love is in the emotion called bhava. The ultimate development of that emotion is mahabhava, or great bhava. Mahabhava is full of the pleasure potency, and it is an exhibition of the highest love for Lord Krishna. Sri Radharani is the embodiment of that transcendental consciousness found in mahabhava. Her mind, senses and body are steeped in that highest sort of love for Krishna. She is as spiritual as the Lord Himself. In fact, being the personification of the hladini-shakti, the pleasure giving energy of the Lord, She is the only source of enjoyment for the Lord. This pleasure potency manifests spiritually as Radharani in a way that attracts even Lord Krishna. He takes no pleasure in anything material. The Lord could never enjoy anything that is less spiritual than Himself. Therefore Radha and Krishna are identical. Then She expands Herself into different forms, known as Lalita, Visakha, and Her other confidential associates that increase the mood of divine love. However, being the Lord's hladini feature, She is also the ultimate source of all happiness for all the living beings. In other words, everything that gives pleasure and happiness within the spiritual or the material worlds is because of Her and the energy that emanates from Her. (Cc.Adi-lila.4.68-72) That same pleasure potency expands and spreads throughout the spiritual worlds, and then descends into the material creation into the many forms of happiness that is experienced by the conditioned soul, though it may be called by different names and perceived in assorted ways. Since we are all parts and parcels of the Lord, we also have that pleasure potency within us to a minute degree. But we are trying to enjoy it in the material world. Therefore we are like sparks that are dying out because we have left our place which is in the blazing fire of Lord Krishna's association.

The Hare Krishna mantra also directs one's attention and devotion to Radha as well as Krishna. Radha is also known as Mother Hara, which is the name Hare in the vocative form within the mantra. So in chanting Hare Krishna, we are first approaching the Lord's internal potency and asking Radha to please engage us in the service of Lord Krishna. Concentrating on Krishna through His names is one form of that service. In other words, it is through Radha that one more easily attains Krishna and service to Krishna. This is the advantage of approaching Lord Krishna through Radharani.

The descriptions of the beauty of Radharani are wonderfully poetic and descriptive. Actually, the residents of Vrindavana care more for Radharani than they do for Lord Krishna. They know that Krishna can be influenced through Radharani. They know that Radha can bring one to Krishna. She is also the compassionate nature of the Lord, and thus more easily approached than trying to reach Lord Krishna directly. And when we read these descriptions of Radha, it is no wonder why they are devoted to Her. For example, it is explained that Srimati Radharani has unlimited transcendental qualities, of which twenty-five are principal. These include: 1) She is very sweet. 2) She is always freshly youthful. 3) Her eyes are restless. 4) She smiles brightly. 5) She has beautiful, auspicious lines. 6) She makes Krishna happy with Her bodily aroma. 7) She is very expert in singing. 8) Her speech is charming. 9) She is very expert in joking and speaking pleasantly. 10) She is very humble and meek. 11) She is always full of mercy. 12) She is cunning. 13) She is expert in executing Her duties. 14) She is shy. 15) She is always respectful. 16) She is always calm. 17) She is always grave. 18) She is expert in enjoying life. 19) She is situated in the topmost level of ecstatic love. 20) She is the reservoir of loving affairs in Gokula. 21) She is the most famous of submissive devotees. 22) She is very affectionate to elderly people. 23) She is very submissive to the love of Her friends. 24) She is the chief gopi. 25) She always keeps Krishna under Her control. In short, She possesses unlimited transcendental qualities, just as Lord Krishna does. (Ujjvala-nilamani, Sri-radha-prakarana 11-15)

In describing Srimati Radharani, it is also said in the Vidagdha-madhava (1.32) by Rupa Gosvami, "The beauty of Srimati Radharani's eyes forcibly devours the beauty of newly grown blue lotus flowers, and the beauty of Her face surpasses that of an entire forest of fully blossomed lotuses. Her bodily luster seems to place even gold in a painful situation. Thus the wonderful, unprecedented beauty of Srimati Radharani is awakening Vrindavana."

"Although the effulgence of the moon is brilliant initially at night, in the daytime it fades away. Similarly, although the lotus is beautiful during the daytime, at night it closes. But, O My friend, the face of My most dear Srimati Radharani is always bright and beautiful, both day and night. Therefore, to what can Her face be compared?" (Vidagdha-madhava 5.20)

"When Srimati Radharani smiles, waves of joy overtake Her cheeks, and Her arched eyebrows dance like the bow of Cupid. Her glance is so enchanting that it is like a dancing bumblebee, moving unsteadily due to intoxication. That bee has bitten the whorl of My heart." (Vidagdha-madhava 2.51)

There is much more to be known about Srimati Radharani, but this should suffice for now. Thus, the spiritual exchange of divine love between Radha and Krishna is the display of the internal energy of the Lord, and is very confidential and difficult to understand. No materialist can begin to understand this topic of the relationship between Radharani and Lord Krishna. But the more we awaken our dormant love for God, which is natural state of being for a fully awakened soul, then the more we can comprehend and actually enter into such spiritual loving exchanges.

  • Legends of Radha Krishna

The legends of Radha-Krishna have become immortal. There are numerous legends and stories of Radha and Krishna depicting their true love. Radha's devotion and dedication towards Sri Krishna is the most sincere one. Here are some legends of Radha-Krishna portraying their love for each other.

    Legend of Hot Milk
This is one interesting story showing the eternal relation of Radha and Krishna. Radha was not married to Lord Krishna. The immeasurable love of Krishna for Radha made Krishna's wives jealous of Radha. Once, they all planned a mischief to make Radha suffer. They set out a bowl of burning hot milk. They gave the bowl to Radha, saying that Krishna had sent it for her. Radha readily drank the hot milk.

When the wives returned to Krishna, they found him full of painful ulcers. This shows that Krishna resides in every pore of Radha i.e. why the hot milk didn't touch Radha, but it affected Krishna. He took all her pain and miseries upon himself.

    Legend of Charanaamrit
This is another sweet story depicting the intense love between Radha and Krishna. Once, Sri Krishna got very ill. Krishna asked that he would be alright if, he would get the Charanaamrit of a true devotee. All the Gopis were asked but none of them offered. They were afraid of committing a serious offense, by offering the water with which they had washed their feet to Sri Krishna.

When Radha came to know about the situation, she said: "Take as much as you like. What does it matter if I have to go to hell as long as my Lord is released of His pain and ailment"! Radha offered the Charanaamrit with true heart. It is due to this fact; it is believed that Radha could not marry Lord Krishna. Radha loved Krishna from the core of her heart but still she offered Charanaamrit to Krishna to save him from his sickness.

Radha and Krishna were celestial beings and their love was eternal. Whether they were married or not, their love made them united for ever.

  • Love-locked Radha Krishna
    ------------------------------------------
Radha drowns in flood tide of Krishna’s love
He too plunges in the deluge of Radha’s love
Dallying in meadows and grove green of Brij.

Unmindful, Radha Krishna in love ramble
Over the foliage, around the trees, holding
Each other, in lovely embrace, amorously.

It’s the bevies of Gopies who come galloping
Encircling heavenly beauties in nocturnal play
Blissfully in lovers’ company, madly they dance.

So deeply drowned in love of them are the Gopies
That remember they do not their own husbands
Whom they left behind in their sheer haste
Whining to embrace their love pure and chaste.

Boundless is their love for lovely Radha Krishna
That unknowingly they infamy of their men take
Leaving, the Gopies their home and hearth abrupt
Dash in the very direction wherefrom flute furiously
Reverberates sweetly, swarm they heavenly consort!

The Gopies drink profusely the ale of heavenly bliss
In the company of Radha-Krishna Gopies find amiss
Beware! take Gopies as no mean lovers, lovers divine
They had ever been in their previous births, Krishna
Had in uttermost love of them have them reincarnated
As Gopies for His own sport, though sages were they
In their past lives who worshipped Krishna immense
That they ardently did Krishna’s company ever sought
Krishna keeping His word has them as Gopies brought
Love of devotees is pious and the God feels so great
For love of them consents Himself as their soul-mate!

  • The Legend of Radha-Krishna

    The Legend
Young Krishna is known to be very playful and mischievous. The story goes that as a child, Krishna was extremely jealous of Radha's fair complexion since he himself was very dark.

One day, Krishna complained to his mother Yashoda about the injustice of nature which made Radha so fair and he so dark. To pacify the crying young Krishna, the doting mother asked him to go and colour Radha's face in whichever colour he wanted.
In a mischievous mood, naughty Krishna heeded the advice of mother Yashoda and applied colour on her beloved Radha's face; Making her one like himself.

Well, there is also a legend to explain Krishna's dark complexion. It so happened that once a demon attempted to kill infant Krishna by giving him poisoned milk. Because of which Krishna turned blue. But Krishna did not die and the demon shriveled up into ashes.
The beautiful scene of Krishna's prank in which he played colour with Radha and other gopis has been made alive in myriad forms in a number of paintings and murals.

    The Celebrations

Somehow, the lovable prank of Krishna where he applied colour on Radha and other gopis using water jets called pichkaris gained acceptance and popularity. So much so that it evolved as a tradition and later, a full-fledged festival.
Till date, use of colours and pichkaris is rampant in Holi. Lovers long to apply colour on their beloveds face and express their affection for each other.

This legend is wonderfully brought alive each year all over India, particularly in Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana and Nandgaon-the places associated with Krishna and Radha.
In fact, the entire country gets drenched in the colour waters when it is time for Holi and celebrate the immortal love of Krishna and Radha.

In some states of India, there is also a tradition to place the idols of Radha and Krishna in a decorated palanquin, which is then carried along the main streets of the city. All this while, devotees chant Krishna's name, sing devotional hymns and dance in the name of the lord.

  • Bhakti means 'devotion', bhava means 'attitude' and prem means 'love'. In the fundamental analysis they are the same expressions. However, bhakti is total surrender. It is complete fusion of individual awareness into supreme awareness. When you love someone and you lose yourself in him or her, not only on the physical or the emotional plane, but totally, even the ego becomes fused and completely lost. That is called bhakti.

Just as you struggle for life when you are thrown into the sea, in the same way, when the totality of your being becomes aware of the higher self, it is pining for fusion with that. This higher state of being is known as Bhakti. At that time, there is no notion that 'I' want to become 'you'. There is no 'I', so there is no question of becoming; there is only 'you'. When there is the notion that 'I' want to become 'you', there is a duality. 'I' am aware of myself, therefore, I want to become 'you'.

However, in bhakti the 'I' is lost; there is only 'you'. That state of self-awareness is known as bhakti.

This bhakti is twofold. One aspect is the ritualistic bhakti, which you perform in the temples and churches according to your religious and cultural background. That is more or less a rehearsed drama. You may or may not practise that because it is something like left, right, about turn. It is just a religious parade. However, the other form of bhakti is a dynamic one, and that is called the supreme bhakti. Here the self, that is 'myself', wants to become one with 'you'. That is the first process, and gradually the mind is fused to such an extent that I lose awareness of 'myself' and I see only 'yourself'.

This has been exemplified in the story of Radha and Krishna. When Lord Krishna was in his teens he met a young girl of his own age, Radha. They first saw each other on the banks of the Yamuna, and Radha started feeling absolute love for Krishna and he started feeling absolute love for her. That was the first and last time they met. Radha had her own life and Krishna had his own life. That is another story. He became a great warrior, a statesman, a teacher, and so on. Radha never lived with him and he never lived with her, nor did they have any chance to see or talk to each other after that. He went away to the western part of India and she went somewhere else. She only lived a story, but he lived a history and he was married eight times.

In our own lives, we have created patterns in the mind, because we want to love someone and we want to give a direction to our sentiments, as to how they should be directed towards Him. So there are paternal, fraternal and marital sentiments. Many people say that God is their husband. In Christianity, Christ is the husband and we arc his wives. Now, however, Christ is dead, so we are all widows in black robes.

The gopis considered Krishna as their husband. You can also consider God as your son, if this idea can capture your mind. In the Gita, Arjuna considered Krishna as his friend, because the idea of a friend could capture his imagination, his emotions, his sentiments. Now, for instance, if I consider God as my father, it will not capture my imagination because I do not care for fathers. However, if I were to consider God as my Guru perhaps that would capture my sentiment, and then as a disciple I could direct my feeling to my Guru as if he were God.

Although some people consider God as father, mother, brother, friend or husband, there is another form of sentiment in which you regard God as your enemy! There are people who do not love God as you do. They do not do japa, 'Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya' as you do but everywhere they go they talk against God. They say, "Where is God? He must be dead. These people are all poor and suffering. If there is any God, how could he allow this to happen?" At least this sentiment keeps you aware of God This is negative bhava, the previous forms were positive bhava. In negative bhava, every negation is all assertion. If you abuse me all day, it is all right, because the negative attitude is a very powerful attitude it works.

The gopis had positive bhava. They considered Krishna to be their husband and all the time they were aware of him. The moment they heard Krishna's flute at midnight, they would run out of their houses to go and play with him. When Krishna left Mathura, which is near Agra, he travelled very far to a place called Dwarka, which is in Gujarat, the western most part of India, and He never came back to Mathura. Then all the gopis who had been his playmates in childhood felt sorry and they began to suffer very much mentally. They could not eat and they could not sleep; they had all the same problems that you have when you lose your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Now, it so happened that Lord Krishna asked his disciple and friend, Udho, who always used to accompany him, "Hey, why don't you go to Mathura and teach the people Yoga?" Udho asked, "To whom will I teach Yoga?" Krishna replied, "Those gopis who used to be my playmates when I was in my teens. It is a nice idea to have a seminar in Mathura." So Udho went to Vrindavan all alone. By that time all the gopis had grown up. When they heard that someone had come from Dwarka, the place of Sri Krishna, they were so happy. They thought at least they could touch his feet. Even though they were not Krishna's still they had trodden the land where Krishna had been walking.

In the evening Udho sat down amongst the gopis and said, "Alright, I'm going to teach you Yoga." They asked, "What Yoga are you going to teach us? Do you mean the Yoga by which you forget yourself or remember yourself? If you mean the Yoga by which you forget yourself, it is of no use because we have already forgotten ourselves. Our mind has only one awareness, not two, and that has gone to Krishna. We have no mind. Tell us how we can practise Yoga, how we can practise pranayama, how we can practise meditation, because we have one mind, one heart, and that he has taken away. It is always with him."

Udho thought to himself, "These are difficult people to teach." Then he asked the gopis, "But why do you say that your heart has been taken away?" They answered, "Yes, Krishna is our husband and we are eternally married." Udho said, "Then why do you keep yourself in such an untidy way? You do not clean your hair, and your clothes are dirty. You look shocking!". They said, "Look here, we have no mind for such things. We have only one awareness and that is of Krishna, whom we loved and played with in our youth. Physically he may not be with us, but all the time we have been thinking only about him. Sometimes this introversion and intense thought awareness continues all day long and all night long, all week long and all month long. So, it is impossible for us to think about our clothes and our body, or even about what others think about us."

Another word associated with bhakti is prem. It is a sadhana by itself. Prem means love. When you approach divinity or God or the idea of God, or when you approach a saintly person or Guru, then you try to practise devotion to him. Although you may call it devotion, actually at that time it is not; it is prem. The preliminary form of devotion is prem, love, and the ultimate form of love is devotion. That has to be practised through fixing your mind by certain attitudes.

How do you remember God? There is a story which is told about Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. One day a disciple came to him and asked, "How can I see God?" Ramakrishna said, "It is very easy. Do you love your wife, your son, your bank balance? Do you remember them often?" The man replied, "Yes, I remember them practically every moment of the day."

So, Ramakrishna said, "Okay, now take that love for your wife, son and bank balance, and give it all to God. If you can love only God with that same intensity, He will come to you shortly." That man went away and started loving God. When he came back to Ramakrishna he said, "I am loving God so much that I do not remember my wife, my son and my money. However, you said that I would meet Him shortly, but it is fifteen days and I have not met Him yet."

Later on, Ramakrishna was crossing the Ganga in a small boat and the same disciple was accompanying him. Whey they reached the middle of the river, Ramakrishna tossed the man into the water and told the boatman to row on. You can just imagine the man's struggle for life. He was gasping for breath arid fighting for life with every ounce of his strength.

Finally, Ramakrishna went back and picked him up. When he pulled the man out of the river, he asked him, "Well, how did you feel?" The man said, "Oh it was terrible, unimaginable!" Then Ramakrishna asked, "When you were struggling for life, gasping for breath, did you ever once ask why God was not coming?" The man said, "No." Then Ramakrishna said, "Develop that."

In the Tulsi Ramayana it is written, "Even as the most passionate man remembers his wife, as the greedy man remembers his wealth, in the same manner may I love my Rama". This should be the intensity of love you should have in order to follow the path of bhakti. Otherwise it is better to do Kriya Yoga than to go on kneeling in the church or bowing in the temple. Those devotees who go to the church or temple once a week and think they have done their duty are not devotees. They have no love and no devotion. Their hearts are empty. Prayer is not bhakti.

Human love which is transferred becomes divine love, and divine love which is transferred becomes human love. There is no difference. It is the same intensity of current that is channelised

A Person, who has controlled his mind, can achieve any success in his life. How far you are trying to control your mind?
The mind that judges not others ever remains tension-free.

  • The Love of Radha for Lord krishna is unparallel. It is also a source of inspiration for all sadhakas, how they should love the Lord.
Saint Ramdas says in his composition, 'the Verses of mind', that Everyone must ENDEAR the LORD. In other words, everyone must love the Lord so much that he must become a special chum (chosen one) of the Lord. Infact the human form of life is meant just for doing this.

    Om Sai Ram.

  • In the Brihad-Gautamiya Tantra, Radharani is described as follows:

    devi krishna-mayi prokta

    radhika para-devata

    sarva-lakshmi-mayi sarva

    kantih sammohini para

  • Krishna, while living in
Dwarka with his favourite wife Rukmani, would very
Often softly utter to himself, " O Radha… O Radha."

Rukmani felt jealous and asked him why he kept
Remembering Radha so often. Krishna did not say
    Anything. He just smiled.

A few days later, Krishna complained of stomach
Ache. Rukmani gave him medicines, but the pain did not
Go away. He kept moaning in pain.

Krishna told her that only a little charanamrita
(blessed water) of a person who truly loved him would
Put an end to his agony. He begged Rukmani to give him
    Some of her charanamrita.

    A shocked Rukmani refused:
" How can I commit such a terrible sin? You are the
Lord of all that be, and if I gave you my charanamrita
I would surely go to hell."

Krishna than asked Rukmani to send an attendant to
Vrindavan and try and procure some charanamrita from
Someone there. Soon the attendant returned with a
Cupful of charanamrita and as Krishna sipped it, all
    The pain disappeared.

He then asked the attendant, " Who gave you this
Charanamrita?" the attendant replied, " no one in
Vrindavan was ready to give it on learning it was for
    Lord Krishna.

Then one young woman came running up to
Me and gave me this cup. Her companions cautioned her,
" You fool Radha, you are committing the greatest sin.
But she did not care. She said, "I don't care about
What happens to me but I cannot bear to see my beloved
    Krishna in pain ."

Krishna turned to rukmani standing by his side and
Said, " Radha is not afraid of going to hell for me.
    She only thinks about me.

So if Radha loves me so
Much, should I also not long for her?"

This is what true love is about. It is
    Unconditional.
