|| Shri Ganeshaya Namah ||
|| Shri Sharada Namah ||
|| Shri Sadguru Namah ||

Verses of the mind

by Saint Ramdas

Ganesha, one who is the Lord of all virtues
He is the root origin and beginning of the Nirgun (formless God)
Let us bow down unto Sharada (Goddess Saraswati), who is the root origin of the four-fold speech
Let us walk on the eternal path of this Raghava (Rama)          ||1||

O my virtuous mind, go along the path of devotion alone
Then Shri Hari manifests naturally
Whatever is condemnable in this world, you should give up all that
Whatever is adorable in this world, you should do that whole heartedly     ||2||

At sunrise time, in the mind, you should go on contemplating Rama
Later by the faculty of speech, you should first utter 'Rama'
Good Conduct is great, it should not be given up
In the world, only that human being itself, becomes blessed      ||3||

O my mind, instincts which are evil, do not come to any use
O my mind, by all means, let there be no sinful intellect
O my mind, by all means, do not leave morality
O my mind, in the inner self, let there remain, thought of the essence     ||4||

Do not, O my mind, be there anger as it results in regret
Do not, O my mind, be there desire as it is results in various mental corruptions
Do not, O my mind, accept greed

O my mind, you should hold great courage at heart
O my mind, bad utterances of others, go on tolerating
But you yourself, always talk humbly by speech
O my mind, do satisfy all people        ||7||

On leaving the body, glory should remain behind
O my virtuous mind, you should hold onto such an action
O my mind, you should wear out like sandalwood
but should satisfy the virtuous souls internally           ||8||

Do not aspire, O my mind, for wealth of others
Do not have too much selfish intellect, O, as sin accumulates (due to it)
By which action, happens suffering of sin, that action is bad
On things not happening as per our mental desire, there is great sorrow       ||9||

Always, at all times, you should hold love in Rama
The shedding away of sorrow from the heart, you should do yourself
The sorrow of the body, you should go on treating that as happiness
With discrimination (Viveka), always you should abide in your real self (Atma)        ||10||

In the world, who is there who is completely happy
Inquire, O my mind, & you yourself find out and check
O my mind, you yourself did gather (sin & merit) in the past
According to that, you have got enjoyment (of happiness or sorrow)      ||11||
