  • Atma-Nivedana is self-surrender. The devotee offers everything to God, including his body, mind and soul. He keeps nothing for himself. He loses even his own self. He has no personal and independent existence. He has given up his self for God. He has become part and parcel of God. God takes care of him and God treats him as Himself. Grief and sorrow, pleasure and pain, the devotee treats as gifts sent by God and does not attach himself to them. He considers himself as a puppet of God and an instrument in the hands of God.

This self-surrender is Absolute Love for God exclusively. There is nothing but God-consciousness in the devotee. Even against his own wishes, the devotee shall become one with God and lose his individuality. This is the law of being. The highest truth is Absoluteness and the soul rises above through different states of consciousness until it attains Absolute Perfection when it becomes identical with God. This is the culmination of all aspiration and love.

  • Jai Sai Ram.

Discipline your life and try to remember that it is God who rules the universe and not you. The egoism in you always tells you that you can influence the world but you can’t. Be humble and
understand that you are zeroes without God. Without
the Divine Grace, you are zeroes. Learn to be humble
and pray to Him. First for purity of mind and body and
to do your duty to the perfection that He expects from
you. See how much He helped the Pandavas. But they
were very receptive. Remember that – receptivity is
expected from you. Otherwise, He cant do anything. So,
from today onwards, you start a new life. There should
be a change coming over your mind and it should take
you onwards. If you do not make progress, you will find
that the floods of difficulties, sorrows, and all sorts of
things in this world overwhelm you. Why should you do
it when you can stay out of it and not get wet by that
flood? Let the floods go past you; if you are in God’s
care you don’t get wet. You are getting wet because you
have no sense of the divinity of God that can help – the
power of God that can help you out and the humility is
expected from you. You are so overwhelmed with your
ego; your selfishness. So, there can be no help from God
because, your ego is so strong. He told even the
Pandavas, when the war was on – they were arguing
among themselves and planning what to do. Then He
was talking and they didn’t listen – it is not that they
didn’t want to listen – they were over excited. He said,
“Then, you decide among yourselves. I am going to
Dwaraka”. You understand that if you don’t accept
God’s help, He might leave you; He is not going to give
explanations. You go to a doctor and ask so many
questions about the treatment that he is giving you, he
will say, “ Go and see somebody else”. Nobody is going
to give explanations to you at every time. And can you
expect it from Almighty God? You got to have complete
obedience. There was a story of how Krishna at the end
of Mahabharatha war at Kurukshetra – Krishna was on
the chariot and Arjuna was there and He told Arjuna to
jump down. The chariot was a heavenly chariot given
by Indra. It was not an ordinary human-built chariot; it
was a heavenly chariot given by Indra for them. So, He
told Arjuna, “You jump down”. But Arjuna said, “No,
You jump down first”. He said, “Krishna, you get down
first”. Krishna at once thundered, “You get down at
once”. Then immediately Arjuna got frightened and he
jumped down. Then Krishna followed him and the whole
chariot went up in flames – into ashes. See, why you
should not ask God for explanations. You should have
complete, unshakeable trust and faith in Him. If that is
there, you will find that it works so easily for you. But
unless you try and get that experience, you have no right
to comment on it. Any medicine, whatever it is, if you
tried it you know, whether it works or not. But if you don’t
take it, then you don’t have the right to speak about it.
This is all that is necessary from you. A clean good life
lived in the spirit of surrender to God –

    “Yatho Dharmas Thatha Krishna ,
    Yatho Krishnas Thatho Jaya”

So wherever there is Krishna, there is Jaya (victory). If
you lead a clean good life, you will find Krishna is on
your side. It is actually the surrender, of -  “Ananyas Chinthayanthomam” – He says. That is, you should put absolute faith in Him and Him alone. Not in anything or anybody else. If there is a
small lack of faith in that, this law will not work. You
can be sure about it. You must have the qualifications to
invoke the greatest and highest law - the law of surrender
to Him. You must have the qualification; even if you want
to do something in the world today, if you want to get a
job, they ask you for your qualifications. Is it only here,
that you don’t require any qualifications? This is the
highest of all. A person who has reached that level can
do anything; just anything. There is nothing that he can’t
    do after that, because his ego gets merged with God;
and there remains only God. There is no ego. He works
as His instrument. So, to qualify yourself for this, start
at once without wasting time. You can’t come hundred
times to be born in this world– you can’t have hundred
births – can you? So, you leave everything else to God
and do your duty to perfection. That is what is expected
from you. To do that, you must get calmness, which you
can get from Japa, Dhyanam and Parayanam. Once
you get to that level, you don’t have to do Japa or
anything; once you close your eyes to the temptations of
the world you can talk with Him. But, you must come to
that stage, isn’t it? From kindergarten you have to go to
the High School – from there you can go to college, isn’t
it? You can’t go to college straightaway –that is not
possible. You can climb only one step at a time. You must
have the patience, trust, belief and faith in God and
surrender to Him totally - Absolute Saranagathi.

  • Jai Sai Krishna!

Continued practice in surrendering himself enables a person to develop the consciousness capable of remembering the Lord at the time of final exit. In the Bhagwad Gita( 8.5), Lord Krishan says, "Whoever at the end of his life quits his body remembering Me, attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt". Mahatma Gandhi did not suddenly think of invoking the Lord's name by saying Hey Ram at the time of his death. He spent his whole life with Him as his anchor. He constantly practiced keeping Him in his subconscious. And so must we! -- so that our faith becomes a living experience.

A seed has to surrender to the soil to blossom as a tree. It has to have faith in the soil and allow itself to die or to rupture in order to blossom as a tree. In the same way, we have to place our faith in Existence and surrender ourselves so that a new life, a life of Nithyananda (Eternal Bliss) with good health can blossom. How do we do it? Should we spend long hours at the temple? No. Every time you feel heavy in the heart or mind, just tell yourself that the Life Force that runs the world will take care of you also and move on, that’s enough. You will see that all your depression and worries disappear and creativity blossoms in you. Surrender is your shortcut to God! It is the ultimate technique to merge with Existence.

  • The Last shall be First.

One day, a king went to visit a Master, and attended, as an observer, the meeting chaired by the wise man.

Later, during lunch, the king said to the Master, “Master of our age! When you preside over your assembly, your disciples sit in a semicircle, in an order that reminds me of that used in my court: does it by chance have any particular meaning?”

He replied: “King of the world! How are your courtesans arranged? Tell me, and then I will describe how the rows of searchers are arranged”.

“The first circle,” explained the king, “is made up of those who, for various reasons, enjoy my favour, so that they are the closest. The second circle is reserved for the most important and powerful dignitaries in the kingdom, and for ambassadors. The outer circle is for less important people.”

“In that case,” said the wise man, “the order in which people are positioned here is far from corresponding with the criteria that you describe. The people sitting closest to me are the deaf ones, so that they can hear. The middle group contains all the ignorant ones, so that they can pay attention to my Teaching. Those furthest away are the illuminated ones, because this kind of closeness holds no importance for them.”

I asked my dear Ramesh Bhai to share thoughts on characteristics of surrender being a householder..want to share with all what he explained to me -  in most simple language anyone can understand ( if they want to :-)  )

Thank you, Thank you , Thank you SAI !!
    -----------------------
    My dear Sister Anju...

Bhai ke saath itne din ki company se abhi tak tumne nahi samjha? Take it easy each and everything in life..living in the present moment is real surrender in real sense.  Why worry for Future which is unseen and far away and never meant anything for those who live in present.  No one have ever seen future.  Have you ever imagined in your childhood what you are today?  I consider future is only for those who live in present.  Jisne present mein rahna nahi seekha unke liye na present hai na future. Aur jisne present ko sukhad maana.  Present ko jisne gratitude ke saath jee liya Uska future toh sukhad hoga hi.  Uske future ko koyi khatra nahi.  Hone ko koyi taal nahi sakta aur unhone kuch hoti nahi.

BABA SAI ka real surrender jo mein samjh paaya hoon itne years mein woh hai...jaise ho vaise raho!  Jiss haal mein rakhe sai uss haal mein tuu jee! True surrender woh hai jo tumhe yeh darshan de ki jitna tumhare paas hai uske tum layak bhi nahi ho lekin uski mehar hai ki tumko USNE itna diya.  Aur tumhe yeh dikhaye ke naa janne kitne insaan hain unko na tan dakhne ke liye vastra hai, ek waqt ki roti bhi nahi naseeb hoti aur head chupaane ke liye thikaana bhi nahi hai.  Ek hum hain ki USNE Itna diya uska shukriya toh door hum USS SE aur mangte rahte hai..apne liye hi nahi apne bacchon tak ke future ko safe karne ki chinta hi sattati rahti hai.

Anju bahen agar tum real sense mein jitna UNSE tumhe diya hai na USKA agar shukriya tum har pal karo na toh tumhare pass pal kam ho jayenge USKA shukriya karne mein.  Aur jisne aaise shukriya ada karna seekh liya uska USKE liye Surrender ho gaya.  Uske liye koyi pooja paath, naam jaap, rituals, scriptures read karne ki koyi zaroorat nahi.

WOH Bechara toh iss intezaar mein rahta hai ki koyi toh aaye USKE darbar mein USKE diye ka shukriya ada karne.  Shukriya ada karne ke peeche bhi koyi na koyi nayi demand hoti hai uske mann mein.  Yeh kaise khokla shukriya!

Sache bhakt ka characteristics samjhana bahut muskil hai.  Koyi set pattern nahi hai ki uss insaan ka outlook aur behaviour kaisa hoga?  Kaise bataoon?  Itne aasaan jeevan ko hum kitna complicated bannate chale jate hain.  So many keys have been given to us in so many scriptures but we go on ignoring them in the hope that someone else will come and help us to open our door.  We depend too much on some guru to come to our rescue when we ourselves are so much capable.

Sirf zaroorat hai hume awareness ke saath jeene ki aur jitna USNE diya hai usme shukriya adda karne ki adat ho jaye buss surrender ho jayega dheere dheere.  Ant mein wohi poorani baat jo meine pahle bhi kahi thi...Jo bhi karo USKE liye karo...Jai Ka koyi kaam..USKA Kaam...Aakaash ka koyi kaam...USKA Kaam....Govind Ka koyi kaam USS GOVIND ka kaam...Office ka kaam.... USKA Kaam...Saansaar ka koyi bhi kaam....USKA KAAM.

Buss ho gaya surrender...jab saare kaam USKE toh Apna samjh kar attachment se bach gaye na...Hai na kitna Aasaan.  Aur kitna muskil bana deta hai insaan?

Bhai..Kuch aaisa likh diya ho toh kshma karna...

So essentially when one truly surrenders - he lives with acceptance of anything and everything around him - complete obedience to the will of SAI. No more wants for anything at all. Just accept whatever comes and perform your role to best of your abilities being in HIS conciousness- like an offering to HIM, serving SAI. And to surrender ONE MUST HAVE FAITH(SHRADDHA) AND PATIENCE(SABURI). !! This is true surrender !

    Translation :

Inexpressible is the story of Love
It cannot be revealed by words
    Like the dumb eating sweet-meat
Only smiles, the sweetness he cannot tell

    The Understanding :

In this Doha, Kabir refers to the situation of a person in Love, a person who has realized the Truth. This compassionate one does not brag, does not talk for the wise one knows that it would be as futile an effort as the mute smile of a dumb trying to express the sweetness of the sweet-meat.

In our daily life too, we find that silence projects our love expressions better than the hollow words we utter for another. Truly it has been said that Love does not need the crutches of a language to express the inexpressible state of being in Love.

  • JAI SAI RAM!!!

A youth sat with a lantern on the outskirts of a village. He had to reach the distant mountain. The night was dark, and all he had to guide him was a hurricane lamp that barely lighted a distance of three feet. He calculated (some people are very clever at mathematics) the length of darkness up to the mountain to be ten miles, and the light of the lantern a distance of only three feet. So he divided ten miles by three feet -- and gave up!

Such massive darkness was impossible to overcome by so small a light. He sat down, waiting for the dawn. And then, an old man came along. He had a smaller lantern in his hand.

"Why are you sitting in this lonely place at this time of the night, son " he asked the boy.

"What else can I do? The night is dark and I have to reach those distant mountains. All I have is this lamp that hardly lights three feet ahead. How can I cover so much darkness with so small a light?"

"You foolish boy!" said the old man. "You do not have to cross all he ten miles at one time! Cross the first three feet with the light of the lamp and the lamp will light another three feet ahead. Then cross the next three feet and the lamp will light another three. The lamp will light your way as you proceed. You can traverse not only ten miles but ten thousand miles with the aid of this small lamp."

Step by step, darkness is overcome. One small step and life reaches far off scenes that are unseen by the eyes today; but one has to make a beginning. Then what seemed a mere web of words, becomes the truths of life that sound so melodious even as we hear them. Would that we reach there, so that we know how truly melodious they are.”

A thousand scriptures are nothing compared to a single step taken on one's own. Do not worry that the road is long, for the longest distance is gained only step by step.

Only one step is taken at one time, but all steps together complete a journey of thousands of miles.
