Shradha (Faith) and Saburi (Patience).

Shradha - Means devotional faith

- faith that Baba is the almighty and Protector,
- that both the good and the bad happening to the devotee’s life are controlled by Him,
- to happily acknowledge and patiently tolerate all vicissitudes of life with equanimity,
- to realize that Baba is always with him, around him,
- to be able to sacrifice anything and everything for the cause of the Master in the manner prescribed by Him,
- to follow His dictates in letter and spirit, whatever be the consequences,
- to hold on to Baba exclusively and not to run to different deities / temples for different purposes.

Saburi - i.e. patience means following actions without complaint, either external or mental and live normally everyday with faith in Baba.

How many people can really do this? If not, one should think on the word ‘surrender’ continuously before considering himself to be a great devotee. It is wiser to think of what we can do for Baba’s work instead of thinking what Baba can do for us.

To get perfect association with a Perfect Master, the person concerned must be a perfect devotee. Baba used to say that a devotee will experience Him as per his bhava means inner thought process. Imperfect minds will reflect an imperfect image of the Sadguru and the person will get imperfect results. It is not easy to achieve this state of mind and it is also not correct to use the word surrender so easily without understanding its full implications. The better path would be to develop the qualities prescribed by the Sadguru gradually living in the world like an ordinary man enjoying and suffering happiness and unhappiness with the Guru in the heart.”…….

OM SAI RAM

Dear Subha ji

It is indeed your good work and service to BABA to post THE MOST REQUIRED QUOTE FROM GURUJI, I wish and request RAVI ji to have this highlighted at Prominent Place in the FORUM so that children calling themselves SAI DEVOTEES and getting frustrated about the time lag not satisfying what has been given to them by BABA should read and understand and practice the INDEPTH MEANING OF SHRADDA AND SHABURI which was what expected by our HOLY FATHER from his children. NO VRATS FASTS with rules and regulations were required by Our HOLY FATHER SATHGURU SAINATH MAHARAJ

Many of us still need to understand and abide by the same and it needs to be read again and again by each and everyone of the SAI FAMILY.

It is just my thought, if I am wrong please excuse me.

What  a beautiful depth meaning for devotion of BABA by Subhasrini-

This is very much needed now in our column- these golden words.

We should accept BABA both in happiness and unhappiness.

Even if unhappiness is due to karma, we should still accept it though we should try our best to resolve it  but the result lies in BABA - WE ACCEPT IT SO THAT ATLEAST NOW  WE DO NOT MAKE MISTAKES AND GET BAD KARMA FOR NEXT BIRTH- BETTER STILL TO GET MUKTI.

BABA, I believe in YOU- that's it- period- SAIRAM

The easiest way to spiritual evolution is to:

1.Believe that the Sadguru is the Divine incarnation to lead people towards temporal and spiritual development.

2.To follow the path laid down by Him as reflected in His earthly conduct and preachings.

3.To understand that no man how much ever he strives, can evolve in the spiritual field beyond a certain limit without the help and kindness of a Sadguru. Even incarnations like Shri Krishna and Shri Rama, in the process of experiencing the God state in Them, had to be helped by Sandeepani and Vasishta, the Sadgurus of the time.

4.To focus the entire spiritual conciousiiess on the Sadgurus, both in Sakara (formed) or Nirakar (formless) and worship them.

5.To believe that the Guru is the repositor of all Divine powers -and therefore, He alone should be made the mainstay of one's life. All needs, worries and questions should be projected to him
Experience has shown that people devoted to Sadgurus, evolve faster in the spiritual field than those following other methods because such devotees believe in surrender to divinity which is the ultimate requirement for spiritual evolution. Every devotee of Shirdi Sai, therefore, on this New Year, should decide whether he wants to hold Baba as his 'Ishta' - the only one to be prayed, worshipped and called in time of need. Personally, for me Shri Sai is the only and ultimate. I don't seek anything from elsewhere.

……“Shraddha or devotional faith is the most difficult state of mind to achieve. If one has absolute faith in his Guru then sooner or later he will even look like the Guru with all His attributes. However, the seed of faith takes a lot of time to generate and to grow. It may take years or even a few lives. Full faith in Baba does not come, as quickly as one desires it to be like Shravan, Kirtan, Poojan, Dhyana, etc. The Navadha Bhakti i.e. the multifold type of bhakti is not bhakti per se. They are either methods of bhakti or reflections of bhakti or both. Further, externality of devotion may not necessarily indicate the internality of devotion.

Some people, at times say that only if Baba desires then bhakti will grow in their hearts. By saying so they make Baba responsible for generating bhakti in them. In the ultimate analysis it is true that Baba generates bhakti in a devotee’s heart. But, if the person so desiring conducts himself in a manner that Baba desires, then the type of bhakti he seeks will certainly be generated by Him. If one starts praying to Baba for bhakti and yet continues to conduct himself in an unethical manner forbidden by Baba, then how do we expect Baba to generate bhakti in his mind? To this some people say that even bad conduct is created by God and unless He desires this can’t be controlled. This time also the burden is squarely on Baba or God and the devotee does not want to take any responsibility even for his own conduct. Even under these circumstances Baba can control his conduct and generate bhakti in him, provided he leaves all other aspects of his life on Him and awaits patiently for Him to guide his destiny. Faith or surrender means leaving everything on Baba – body, mind and soul. But partial surrender will lead to partial bhakti, and its partial results only. If one is sincere enough and fully surrenders to Baba then He will control his desires and conduct. Under these circumstances neither he should work nor seek anything himself but leave everything to Baba in totality. Then, if he is prepared to bear the consequence of this state of utter inaction then Baba will certainly control his conduct and give him the type of Shraddha he seeks. There are many examples of many devotees in Shirdi, at the time of Baba, who had left everything on Sai including all their material and spiritual needs, and Baba did provide these to them. If one cannot come to this state of utter inaction then, he should go by the normal path of Navadha Bhakti and should be responsible for his own conduct to start with. God has given enough intelligence to human beings in comparison to animals, to discriminate between good and evil. Such practice will slowly but definitely grow devotion in him imperceptibly.

However, this slow growth means waiting patiently under all circumstances on the mercy of Baba, which is nothing but Saburi. Saburi is, therefore, an essential factor for the generation, sustenance and growth of devotion. Both faith and patience are complementary to each other. Faith without patience will bring loss of faith at frequent intervals of time and will not allow its growth. Similarly, only patience, without actual faith, is an exercise in futility. A balance in both will bring about even growth of both in a person.

Faith again means trying to do what we have been asked to do by Baba and resist from doing what has been forbidden by Him. Even if we fail a number of times it does not matter, the main point is whether we are using our God given faculties to their maximum limits. When we want to use our faculties, time and energy for getting close to Baba we have to cut down on many other activities. Therefore, the person who wants closeness with Baba should always try to reduce the non-productive, capricious and non-essential activities like late night parties, addiction of any type, uncontrolled thought, speech or action, etc. Such improvements will not only gradually control the mind but will also save time and energy for more purposive and creative activities, like study on Sri Sainath, meditation on Baba and His worship in any form. The devotees should always try to improve their inner qualities of patience, faith, tolerance, egolessness, and gradually, closeness with Baba will increase. But, the most important two qualities which are fundamental, as often said by Baba, are "Shraddha and Saburi".”…….

……“Sitting in Shirdi Masjid, Baba had said that there are many paths, but one of the paths leads to God through Dwarkamayi. When one analyses how Baba led thousands of people towards God realization at Shirdi a certain pattern evolves. The basic principles of the Sai path are based on:

(a) The existence in physical form of a perfect being known variously as a Perfect Master, a Sadguru or a Qutub as called by the Sufis. A Qutub simply means an axis, a pivot around which others, both living and non-living, revolve. The Perfect Master, having himself experienced different stages of evolution including that of man has at last reached the stage of God. However, those among these perfect beings, who out of infinite compassion, make the greatest sacrifice of not enjoying the blissful state of God but incarnate in a human body on earth to serve the imperfect, suffering humanity are called the Perfect Masters. As Meher Baba has said, at any point of time there are five Perfect Masters on the earth in embodied form.

(b) When in human body they act both as human beings and Gods. As Gods they have infinite power, infinite knowledge, infinite happiness and infinite existence. Like God they are Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient enjoying the powers of the Almighty. They share their power, knowledge and pleasure with the millions of human beings by methods un¬perceivable by human beings and are known as Leelas or divine miracles. All miracles are based on the laws of nature, only one has to know, experience and master it. All the elemental forces of nature like fire, water, air etc. defined as deities by the Hindus, work under their command or wish. As Gods they see everything in themselves and themselves in everything. So they serve everyone without any differentiation as if they are serving themselves. They see God in everyone, even though others may not be able to see God in them. They give infinite love to others and take infinite pain from others. Once any human being or any species is linked with them in any manner, they ensure that these creatures are evolved, life after life till they merge with God from where they came. This ultimate stage of evolution is ordinarily known as Mukti or Moksha.

(c) These Perfect Masters alone are capable of leading human beings to God realization. They follow what is common and universal in all religions i.e., humanism based on love. Out of love they not only take care of the spiritual evolution of the devotees but also their temporal requirements. Once one has surrendered to them they look after all needs of the devotee as a mother would do for a child. They can go to any extent, even to sacrifice their human body, to protect their children. That’s what Baba did for many as can be read in Sri Sai Satcharitra, and as experienced by many. To develop closer and closer link with Him, one has to develop faith in Him, even patiently under the most trying circumstances. Also, to develop the qualities of humility, sacrifice, tolerance and steadfastness in devotion and actions desired by the Sadguru. One will evolve earlier than others worshipping too many deities if he follows this path of Guru. Baba used to give visions to many people in the form of their deities, like Hanuman, Ganesh etc. which convinced them that there is no difference between Baba and any other deity or even God. One can therefore, at the first stage try to see all deities in Baba, worship Him in the method in which other deities are worshipped. In short, one should try to see and seek everything in and from Baba. This path may be difficult at the initial stage but can certainly be achieved with steadfastness and faith in Baba. So let us try.”…….

……“We must muse over our imperfections of yesterday and try to evolve towards a little more perfection. Knowing that no ordinary mortal is totally perfect, we try to find a model of perfection which is epitomized in a Sadguru or Perfect Master, and it is a truism in all times that the Perfect Master is at first a perfect man. Sri Sainath of Shirdi, the Perfect Master of the Age, standing as our model practiced and preached three things.

He taught us that by expansion of our love to other fellow beings and even the other species one can consolidate society.

He also taught that rigorous and technical methods need not be used for spiritual upliftment. All that is needed is to bring about a qualitative change in one's way of thinking and way of working in daily life.
He brought about a cohesive theme amidst the opposing themes of inter-cultural, inter-religious and inter-sectorial groups. This He achieved by allowing each group to have its own mode ofliving, religious practices and cultural. He succeeded in bringing out a way of life at Shirdi, which reflected a confluence of varied cultures and religions.”…..

……“What is the simple path then?

The devotees of Shri Shirdi Sai know that whoever surrenders to Him, He takes care.

The Sadguru is the repository of all Shaktis.

Because He carries on the wishes of the ‘Parabramha’, therefore, all Shaktis of the ‘Parabramha’ assist Him

 whenever He wishes.

Whenever we surrender to Him, the support of whatever Shakti is necessary will be provided by Him,

whether it is for material benefit or spiritual upliftment.

To various devotees He has shown Himself in the form of different deities and Avatars - Vishnu, Maruti,

Krishna, Shiva, etc.

On the day of Dussehra, He is to be worshipped as Durga.

Whatever He is, for us He is our most dear, most loving and most caring Sai.

He is our father, mother, friend and Guru.”…….

Devotees are often heard to be saying that Shri Sainath Maharaj or Baba is either angry with them or is not taking care of them as before for reasons which they fail to understand.
Such an attitude indicates a highly personalized approach. It is a unique feature of the Sai faith that the devotees get highly emotionally attached to Him even though he has no more physical presence. Psychologically they depend a lot on Shri Shirdi Sai for solace, guidance and more importantly for getting a solution to their day to day mundane problems.

For most of the devotees He is a part of their lives. They worship Him, they read about Him, they meditate on Him, they do Naamjaap, they talk about Him a lot without getting tired and the hold Lungers and even donate alms to beggars in his name. Some of the ardent devotees even before taking any food or drink offer it to Baba mentally.

Like children they collect all sorts of photographs, trinkets and other articles related to Baba. Such activities are a pointer to the fact that they are ever in search of Baba in their mind and soul and wish to establish an intense relationship with Him.

It has been observed that a devotee when he first enters into the fold of Shri Sai Baba’s divine and magnanimous personality gets attracted to him in a very short time which ordinary human reasoning can not explain. When Baba was there in Shirdi many of the devotees used to go into a spiritual trance or sort of emotional hype at the very look at Baba. Such examples find a depiction in Shri Sai Satcharitra and many other books like Khaparde’s diary etc.

Such was the attraction of the master that when a non believer like Balasaheb Bhate met Baba for the first time he just decided to stay back and settle down in Shirdi forever and later resigned from the government service only to serve Baba for the rest of his life.

Most of the devotees hold Baba’s relation with them as their most prized possession. Baba before departing from his physical embodiment had assured his devotees that he would continue to protect them from his invisible abode. He had even said that whenever His devotees would call him earnestly he would make his presence felt in some way or the other and also render help to remove their difficulties. Incidents happening in the lives of most of the devotees after Baba had taken Samadhi show that Baba continues to keep his promise.

Thus Shri Sainath Maharaj continues to render love, assurance, protection and faith to all his devotees. At times being busy tackling their earthly problems, the devotees are not in a position to remember Baba as much as they used to do earlier.
In such a situation, they feel an emotional vacuum in them.

Lets just understand this sense of void in the devotee when the feeling towards the Sadguru reduces in its intensity through the example of the sun and the sunlight. The light rays continuously emanate from the sun and the sunlight falls on earth. When the sky is clouded the Sun’s rays cannot be seen. Similarly, Baba’s love and protection towards devotees flows continuously but some of the devotees do not experience it when their life is engulfed by worldly clouds.

Sai Nath maharaj often used to tell devotees at Shirdi in no uncertain terms that whosoever prays to him intensely and intimately would certainly receive His grace, help and experience.

Once the teacher - pupil emotional rapport is established, the pupil is bound to go through a series of alternative emotional experiences. Sometimes he will feel flooded with loving emotions towards his master and sometimes he will feel a sense of emotional void. This bipolar emotional situation is not due to the change in the mood of the master as perceived by devotees because a perfect master is a perfect soul. The reason for such a feeling in the devotee lies in the devotee himself. Hence, whenever such a situation comes the devotee should not get bogged down under his own emotional pressures and feel frustrated. Instead he should pray Baba to stabilize his emotions towards Him.

Every devotee should try to understand that a perfect master has a thousand things to do for benefit of innumerable number of devotees at the same time. Therefore to expect that the emotional impulses of each devotee would be immediately reciprocated by the master is not the correct approach. Such an unstable mental state of the devotee indicates a lack of faith in the master. If the devotee is convinced that the Sadguru is always busy in helping a large number of His devotees, at the same time, he (the devotee) should take care to see that he does not disturb the master for frivolous issues.

The master is best left to carry on His magnificent and universal work. This understanding on the part of the devotee will make the master comfortable.

……“So far so good, but does it prove the end of the role of the Sadguru in relation to the souls that He had drawn towards Himself from far and near and with whom He had ‘Rinanubandha’, a karmic relationship established during many past lives?

Although, many religious and spiritual people hold the view that a master after leaving his human body cannot help the disciples yet in the case of Sri Sainath the experience of the disciples has been quite different. I have had the opportunity of knowing some of the devotees of Baba who had been with Him before His departure. I have spoken with some of them and also got their experiences recorded through some ardent devotees.

All of them categorically confirmed that many unexplainable and miraculous events with relation to Baba are still happening around their existence as used to be earlier when Baba was there in His physical body at Shirdi.

Most of the books written on Baba’s life history and devotee’s experience undoubtedly establish the happening of certain miracles experienced by Sai devotees, not only before the departure of Baba but even today. Earlier, there were thousands of devotees mostly confined to Maharashtra.

But, today the increase in the number of Sai devotees is an astounding phenomenon which is difficult to explain, but more difficult to deny.

More than a thousand temples of Sri Sai have come up in India and hundreds are in the process of construction at various stages.

Where it is not possible for devotees to build Baba’s temples separately, small and big statues have been installed inside precincts of temple complexes housing other deities.

The activities concerning Sri Sainath today are so multi-dimensional and widespread, all over the country and abroad, that one cannot comprehend their total effect in the lives of the devotees and on the religious spiritual life of India and other places.

The researchers on Baba in India and other countries, who have written a number of books on Him, need to take up thorough research on this aspect.

This logically brings to mind one question - if after His departure, the spirit of Sri Sai is not active, then how are all these happening? Can it be believed to be a mere chance occurrence or is there a bigger or subtler law of nature, which is manifesting through these activities.

Any sensitive mind with some amount of understanding of the spiritual history of the world will surely perceive the reality of a quietly emerging Sai movement. This movement is based on the principles of humanism, universalism, tolerance and mutual co-operation of the highest order. These are principles on the basis of which any civilized society exists and any religion continues. We are all waiting for “dawning the Age of Sai” who, I believe, is the “Incarnation of the Age”. In this decade the world will see the emergence of international Sai movement and hundreds of temples will be built in a number of countries. History indicates that the role of the incarnations has been more pronounced after they had left their gross body.

The world needs someone to lead it and bring about unity among the strife-ridden and mutually intolerant religious, social and racial groups. Sri Sai preached and practiced the unity of the highest order based on the principles of love and tolerance in the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century.

In this millennium it will lead the world in the path of peace and progress.”…….

SHRI C.B. SATPATHY'S MESSAGE

……“Devotees speak volumes about their masters. They speak on the Master’s glory, personality, activities, miracles, their personal experiences, and of other devotees and group activities etc. Particularly, when it comes to Shri Sainath Maharaj devotees speak more about dreams with relation to Him, their own experience, which they call miracles and on their emotive interaction with Baba. In short, they experience Him as a Personal God, who can be a Sadguru or a deity. Some of them worship a number of Personal Gods at the same time and therefore, find it difficult to focus on one. In any case the One Ultimate has to be beyond all the Personal Gods.

A Personal God, by whatever name, is called Saguna (with certain qualities and powers) Sakara (a form which a human mind can ordinarily comprehend). A finer understanding of God is Nirguna (beyond such limited qualities and powers), Nirakara (beyond specific forms). Nirguna Nirakara - this means seeing or experiencing the essence of God or that Ultimate reality or Brahma in all its creations, i.e., in the devotee himself and in the entire manifested and non-manifested creation around him.

By this logic all statues or paintings, structures (like Samadhis), names, Aartis, Mantras, Charan Padukas, etc. are symbols of God and certainly not God, the Ultimate. Such symbols are generally worshipped and contemplated on, as it is easy for the limited human mind to comprehend them. The question is whether the human mind should necessarily be limited, or a path should be chosen to keep it limited. If any path or any religion prescribes such an approach, it itself is limited. Hinduism prescribes certain methods by which a devotee can graduate from Sakara (limited form of) worship to Nirakara (form-less) worship. Religion means both ritualism and spiritualism.

Unless one transcends ritualism, it is difficult to enter into the arena of spiritualism in the true sense of the term. Spiritualism means to follow the true diktats of the spirit within. Generally speaking, ‘the spirit within’ means the soul, which is a part of that God, the Ultimate who encompasses both the seen and unseen, the living and non-living aspects of nature and from the smallest particles to biggest stars. Spiritualism, therefore, has necessarily to expand the spirit of the soul from its limited body-bounden awareness to a vast cosmic awareness. If sheer ritualism like Puja, Archana, Yagyans does not uplift the spirit of the individual or expand his mental horizon, it certainly is not spiritualism.

Generally, it is due to the lack of understanding of what real spiritualism means that most of the devotees spend their whole life doing certain rituals without progressing. From multiple forms of God to a single form God to a formless state of God is the real prescription for spiritualism. Multiple form worships (i.e. of deities etc.) do not give focus on a particular form. Since these various symbolic representations of different aspects of nature go with various functions and powers, a person worshipping these forms gets scared to stop such worship even when he understands that he has to graduate to a formless state of worship.

For example, Shri Ganapati is for the removal of obstructions, Shri Durga is for protection against enemies or Shri Laxmi is for prosperity or Shri Hanumana for courage, etc. No doubt that all the four deities are manifestations of the Ultimate One but then on whom does the devotee concentrate? Where then is the question of what is called “Ekagra Chitta” as a sine-qua-non for subtle experience of God. In such a situation one has to choose one of the two ways. Either to worship the Ultimate One (Nirguna Nirakara) going beyond the worship of these deities or to evolve through these limited forms to the Ultimate reality through Gyana Marga (Path of Knowledge). All spiritual practitioners in all ages, of whichever religion, have gone through this process of leaving the forms and contemplating on the formless state of God or in experiencing the formless state of God through the forms. The Perfect Masters or Sadgurus always taught the same method to their disciples at a certain stage of evolution. Those who followed them and tried to experience the impersonal aspects of God evolved faster than those that stuck on to the Personal aspect of God only. Thus Baba has clearly stated in Shri Sai Satcharitra that the best way of worship is to experience Him as a Formless, Universal existence.

If not, to worship Him with a form. Therefore, the devotee of Baba while worshipping Him with a form, should always try to experience Him as the formless. But then, the big question is how to be focused and be in a state of “Ekagra Chitta” when too many forms are contemplated on at the same time. Is not the form of the Sadguru enough!”…….

Spontaneous human nature is to have an amicable inter relationship with individuals, groups or situations, which are considered more powerful. Before the evolution of the cerebral potentialities, the earliest human beings considered the forces of nature like fire, cloud and even some other species to be more powerful than themselves and thus started the earliest systems of worship.

This concept of God at the level of consciousness of the earliest human beings was interpreted as more powerful forces of nature around and was based sheerly on fear. Gradually, with the expansion of the thinking capacities, the human race started understanding about the all pervading and subtle forces of nature which they called God.

Gradually they realised that behind the manifested forms of sun and fire, there exists a subtle consciousness. They further knew that this subtle consciousness is the primordial causative force creating the visible and non-visible aspects of the universe.

The developed intellect and expanded consciousness of the spiritual minds of India delved deep into these subtle causative forces of the universe and realised that the existence of an eternal entity can be defined as God and the Ultimate Truth. This primordial entity known in Vedas as 'Param Purusha' is not bound by time, space or mutability although it creates time, space and mutability.

    SURRENDER TO LORD SAI

By B. Umamaheswara Rao

(Founder Editor - 'Sai Prabha and Editor 'Sainatha Prabha')

It is not Easy

IT IS NOT EASY

- to apologize

- to begin again

- to admit error

- to be unselfish

- to face a sneer

- to be considerate

- to endure success and prosperity

- to keep on trying in difficulties

- to profit by mistakes

- to forgive and forget

- to think and then act manfully

- to make best of what is God-given

- to shoulder deserved blame

- to subdue an ugly temper

- to master a critical tongue NO! IT IS NOT EASY AT ALL.

'Shraddha' and 'Saburi' are the two-paisa dakshina that Lord Sai asked his devotees to give him to be led to His holy feet. The devotee loves Sai, as the child its mother, as the servant his master with complete dependence on Him.

Let us open out our hearts fully before Lord Sainath. Let us lay our hearts bare, confess all our shortcomings and weaknesses and appeal for strength to conquer them.

To increase bhakti in Sai, three things are necessary.

1. Constant repetition of Sai-nam 'OM SAI SRI SAIJAYA JAYA SAI'.

2. To see Lord Sai in all objects and beings.

3. To undergo all difficulties and sorrows in a spirit of resignation and renunciation.

All our weaknesses are destroyed the moment we surrender ourselves to Lord Sainath. The self surrender should not be only for a time. It must be continuous and the consciousness of the ego must leave us entirely and forever.

1.       Acknowledgement of Sai-will as supreme:

Our ego refuses to submit to this truth and makes us suffer from disappointments and doubts. Let us always remember that Sai is the sole-doer and we are all merely instruments in His hands.

2.      Realisation that Sai is always good, loving and compassionate:

So Sai-will works only for good. He is kind and compassionate. This gives us the necessary strength to patiently endure every trial and grief, seeing in it the hidden good, as in the apparent harsh treatment of the child by its mother when she chastises her child for its good.

3.            Every moment is a part of Sai-eternity: Acceptance of the fact that Sai has assured the form

of the Universe of all creatures, of all beings and things in it. Let us consider every thing and every being as manifestation of Lord Sai. Then we have nothing to dislike or hate. Here we create an ocean of love in which we immerse ourselves and enjoy eternal bliss. "BE EVER IN SHIRDI SAI-BE-THUS IN SAIJOY".

4.             This is an ideal that every Sai-devotee must have. Let us all strive to achieve it one hundred percent.

Diamond-Life

In this age of affluence many people........ When they meet obstacles....... give up and take the course of least resistance. They refuse to stand up and face their problems eye-to-eye.

Little do they realize that sometimes the things against which they rebel most in life and look upon as obstacles are what they need most to develop their highest usefulness and efficiency.

If a diamond could talk, it would undoubtedly express resentment against the abrasive, grinding contact of the jeweler's wheel that grinds and polishes its facets. Yet.... without the jeweler's grinding wheel, the diamond has little commercial value. The swiftly revolving wheel cuts into the surface of the diamond and from a common-appearing pebble produces a gem of beauty that is admired and sought after. There is no other way to make a diamond except by grinding and polishing.

In the same way, human life must be subjected to difficulties, adversities, and discipline in order to bring out those qualities that will make life of value to the owner.

Prayer

Charles V called his son one day and showing him a beautiful sword and a sacred book, said, ''Choose between these two objects." The son preferred the breviary, and when the Emperor asked the reason for his decision, he simply replied, "My Father, with the sword I could conquer a kingdom, but with prayer I could gain Heaven which is more lasting and happier."

Dussehra Message

There are a few major differences between other species and the human beings. Human beings or the homo-sapiens race has established itself as the most superior race on this earth because of the superiority of its mental faculties. These capacities grew stage by stage through innumerable number of self experiments conducted by nature on itself. What we call as nature is the limited manifestation of the sovereign divine power called Brahma or Ishwara. Thus, that ultimate power manifested as universe, solar system, earth etc. Thereafter, it created the living organisms, birds, animals and ultimately human beings through different stages of growth in consciousness.

All other species have instinctive intelligence but what human beings exclusively possess is intellect. This intellectual consciousness of a man is a combination of his mental faculties like memory, recall, analytical ability and his heart qualities like love-hatred, selfishness-self sacrifice, anger-calmness, intolerance-patience etc. The highly developed human brain computer takes all these factors into consideration in giving a solution to any problem. It is again this intellect that has created the loftiest and greatest systems in the earth - social, economic, religious, political and spiritual etc.

Man's intellect has penetrated into the micro world of elements and the macro dimensions of space. The last two to three decades has witnessed "intellectual explosion" in the world. Movement in space, cloning of animals, transplantation of human organs, sub-earth discoveries, micro analysis of elements, wire-less communication to mention a few, have revolutionalised human civilization and given human beings immense power to control nature, almost bordering on divinity.

Commensurately, the pressure on human brain has increased tremendously. Newer concepts are entering into our thinking system making the old concepts redundant. It is happening so fast that most of us are finding it difficult to adjust to this rapid transition whereas it is easy for the new generations to adjust at a faster pace due to the nascent state of their mind. The older generations find it to be heavily at odds with their old concepts and style of thinking. This obviously is creating a lot of mal-adjustment in individuals with different levels of sensitivities and also greater mal-adjustment in the social fabric. Such mal-adjustments are reflecting in the assertion of selfish individualism beyond proportions, discords between parents and off-springs, large number of divorce in marital life, material approach to emotional aspects of life and a mad-race to compete in the material world at the cost of finer aspects of life. This has happened in many civilizations earlier and by the law of self-contradiction these civilizations went down. This mal-adjustment between the material and the emotional world brought in the down fall of the mighty Roman, Indus-valley and many other civilizations.

The answer to such confusion does not lie in assertion of egoism or selfish individualism at the cost of greater social good but to accept others ways of living both with its positive and negative traits. Love is not acceptance of only the best in the loved one but is the total acceptance of the entire personality. This is what Baba preached and practiced at Shirdi. Only was He capable of bringing the divergent groups of individuals belonging to different castes, religions, creeds and different socio-economic status under a single banner - i.e. the banner of humanism. The world needs to follow this concept today, to make tomorrow a better place to live.

Whenever we surrender to Him, the support of whatever Shakti is necessary will be

provided by Him, whether it is for material benefit or spiritual upliftment. To various devotees He has

shown Himself in the form of different deities and Avatars - Vishnu, Maruti, Krishna, Shiva, etc.

On the day of Dussehra, He is to be worshipped as Durga.

Whatever He is, for us He is our most dear, most loving and most caring Sai.

He is our father, mother, friend and Guru.”…….

Saburi -
i.e. patience means following actions as mentioned before without complaint, either external or mental and live normally everyday with faith in Baba.

Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy - message

Spontaneous human nature is to have an amicable inter relationship with individuals, groups or

situations, which are considered more powerful.

Before the evolution of the cerebral potentialities, the earliest human beings considered the forces of

nature like fire, cloud and even some other species to be more powerful than themselves and thus

started the earliest systems of worship. This concept of God at the level of consciousness of the

earliest human beings was interpreted as more powerful forces of nature around and was based

sheerly on fear. Gradually, with the expansion of the thinking capacities, the human race started

understanding about the all pervading and subtle forces of nature which they called God. Gradually

they realised that behind the manifested forms of sun and fire, there exists a subtle consciousness.

They further knew that this subtle consciousness is the primordial causative force creating the visible

and non-visible aspects of the universe. The developed intellect and expanded consciousness of the

spiritual minds of India delved deep into these subtle causative forces of the universe and realised

that the existence of an eternal entity can be defined as God and the Ultimate Truth. This primordial

entity known in Vedas as 'Param Purusha' is not bound by time, space or mutability although it creates

time, space and mutability.

Remembrance

A devotee should always, every moment, remember his soul relationship with Baba and feel affinity. The more we will remember, the closer we will feel with Him. This remembrance is like the life force of all other aspects of devotion, so it is of first importance.

Remembrance of any of the names, leelas, virtues, abodes, and the associates of Shirdi Sai can be done singly or collectively. So, while doing the chanting or while listening to a chant or while remembering a chant in our mind we should feel the synonymity of Blissful sweetness of Baba with the name, and, at the same time, think of any leela, or feel and imagine the presence of Baba near us.

Bhakti is the selfless remembrance of Baba. It is accompanied by the feeling of affinity and a desire to increase longing. Such a devotion purifies the heart of the devotee and qualifies it to receive the Grace of Baba. The practical and best way of Baba devotion to increase the longing for the vision of Shirdi Sai is to remember the Divine relationship and to meditate on the form and the leelas of Shirdi Sai Baba affectionately.

Baba devotees who have read Shri Sai Satcharitra experience this all the time when they chant His name and meditate on Him. It brings up nostalgic moments as if we are in Dwarkamai and He, the graceful and handsome Sai, standing on the edge of the Masjid and distributing
Udi to each and every Bhakta, with a view to his welfare.

He, Who thinks of the world as an illusion and Who is ever engrossed in Supreme Bliss before Him, we humbly prostrate ourselves.

JaiSaiRam.

Sadhana

A man generally becomes egoistic due to education, wealth and indiscriminate spiritual knowledge. But he forgets that his wealth and erudition are Baba given. He thinks that these are obtained by self-effort alone and nobody has anything to do with it. Such a man's fate is like the Sun, who rises in all his glory at dawn and reaches the zenith at noon and as evening falls, disappears. Similarly, egoistic education, wealth and indiscriminate knowledge are like the glory of sunrise. As time passes, they are bound to disappear. We should give up ego and pride when we praise the greatness of Baba's superiority.

It is the duty of the wealthy to use their wealth to help those who are in real need. They should serve as a protective force to the society, especially for the poor and the needy. A man of charitable nature is always charitable. His quality is inborn. There is no need to teach him it is not easy to change the basic nature of man. A person, who is basically wicked, remains so. It is very difficult to transform him. A neem fruit can not be made sweet by pouring honey at the root of the tree. True devotion to Baba alone is the means to self- evolution. This itself is Sadhana. Such devotion prevents you from unrighteous behavior and mitigates suffering. Even if a devotee develops pride, Baba will correct him at an appropriate time by directing him to a Sadguru.

What is the relevance of Sai’s teachings in today’s world?

Answer :

The most important things that Sai Baba of Shirdi taught are:-

1. Love towards all including animals, birds and insects:

Baba used to feed dogs even before He partook food. He extended His love to even a useless rock used for washing clothes by sitting on it.

Today that rock is seen in Dwarkamai and is worshipped by devotees who come there.
People today should learn this and follow His teachings.
To a great extent devotees are following this.
People are seen distributing clothes, food, etc. to the poor Narayana seva is going on all over the world in various Sai centers.

2. Religious tolerance:

Shirdi Sai Baba looked after the Hindus and Muslims equally.
We can find people of all religions coming to Him even now.
He always preached that all are one and be alike to everyone.
In today’s world there is lot of intolerance among the people of various religions.
People must believe that all are humans.
Faiths may be different but the goal is one.
Shirdi Sai devotees are found to be very tolerant in this aspect.
We find Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, etc sharing their views and talking with each other like real brothers in Shirdi and also at various Sai centers all over the world.
They firmly believe that flowers may be many but worship is one.
Stars may be many but light is one. Similarly paths may be different but goal is one.

3. Caste Harmony:
Shirdi Sai never allowed people to have ill feelings towards the so called untouchables.
He made Brahmins eat from leper’s plate or untouchable’s plates.
When they felt loathsome to do the same He castigated them and preached them everything is Atma. If they hated them they are infact hating Him who is residing in them.
People who believe in Baba should follow the same thing.
Treat all mankind as brothers and live happily.
Believe in brotherhood of man and fatherhood of God.

Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy

……“The main problem is the conviction of the people about their faith and surrender to Baba. The qualities, sacrifices and time needed for establishing closer contact with a Sadguru cannot be done in the way we do in our ordinary life with people around. In a social relationship people generally have a limited approach pre-calculating mutual benefit. Any deviation or non-fulfillment of anticipated reaction from the other side spoils and stops such a relationship easily. Today even in a family set-up, relationships in a large number of cases are built on such a considerations. These norms are changeable from society to society and from time to time. But when these norms are applied in relation to the spiritual world or in relation to a Sadguru, they become a non-starter from the beginning.

Bhakti Marg at its highest point leads to ‘surrender’. Surrender means giving-away our mind, body and soul to the deity or Sadguru. Having given, the devotee is to realize that what ever happens to his body, mind and soul is done by the Sadguru. Also, he has to use these three for the work of the Sadguru. Since anything and everything happening to him is done by the Sadguru, he has nothing to be happy about, nothing to be sorry about, nothing to complain against and nothing to desire - not only materially or mentally but also spiritually.

The state of actual surrender can be achieved by only a few among millions of spiritual aspirants over a few lives and that too, with the help and kindness of a Guru.

How many people, who say that they have surrendered to Baba fall in this category? Baba was once sitting in Dwarakamayee Masjid relating about his relationship with His Guru who had given Him severe tests. Baba was tied by His legs and hung in a well for a few hours. When the Guru on return asked him as to how he felt, Baba said that he felt fine. He had nothing to complain about and was content with what the Guru had done. In this context Baba asked the devotees sitting around Him as to how many of them can be His disciples in the way in which He was a disciple of His Guru. None had the courage to come up to that expectation.

Therefore simply to say, or show that one has surrendered is not good enough because a man who has surrendered will have no desires and no complaints. He would only follow the path laid down by Baba expressed in two words i.e.

Saburi - i.e. patience means following actions as mentioned before without complaint, either external or mental and live normally everyday with faith in Baba.

……“Pain and pleasure as defined by the rationalists are unwelcome and welcome experiences. When a man goes by this theory, he creates a small universe for himself in which he always tries to avoid pain and gain pleasure. In such a state of mind he restricts himself within his isotopic atomic individualism.

The universes created by God and the Laws of Nature running these universes have limited use for him or so he thinks. But this not being the reality, he faces a situation of double pain when confronted with pain - the first pain is the one physical or mental, given to him and the second pain is the disintegration of the universe which he has built up so strenuously throughout his life, during the evolution of his life. It takes a longer time for him to adjust with God’s Universe as his own.

However, those who view their little universes as parts of the God’s Universe are in a much better state. No doubt, they will also suffer pain of body or mind, which otherwise may be defined as disintegration but they will not see the breaking of their self-created little universe.

Numerous atoms and molecules are integrated to form the body and they are kept together by the life-force. An injury and death lead to partial or total disintegration of these body particles. One puts his life’s earnings in an integrated form in a bank account (i.e. adding one rupee to another) and when it exhausts, the life is disintegrated.

A person through a process of manipulation and exhibition has integrated many persons to believe that he is good and noble and basks in that glory for some time.

However, a single wrong action on his part has the potentiality of totally shattering this positive thought process of others. Human universes emanating out of their ego have the chance of disintegration.

Thus, disintegration of body and mind is a continuous process between the two terminal points called birth and death. With the death of his body his painfully arranged universe ends. However, the only non- disintegrating factor, i.e., the soul, after death goes back to the universe of God, leaving the universe of man, and is eternal.

To get into the universe of God, one has to break the universe of man. A sealed water container in an ocean needs to be broken if it’s water were to have universal expanse in the sea.

Most of the people I happen to meet are asking me for various components required to build their own little universe like a child, a house, a job, money or honour. They pray to Baba for the same although, their emotional attraction towards Him can’t be denied.

How unfortunate that the mighty divine power of attraction of Baba is converted to the attraction of money, job or land. The same spiritual force of Baba which can become the various forms of nature i.e., deities like Ganesh, Maruti etc., now is desired and prayed by devotees to convert into the state of money and land.

In the quintessence, those who pray Baba for money want to experience Him as money, those who pray for land will experience Him as land and those pray Him for women will experience Him as woman.

No doubt they are experiencing Baba, but at a much lower state of consciousness. Those who want to experience Him in a higher state will have to go beyond this state of mind.

If they have to experience His original state (Swaroop) they have to focus their concentration i.e., power of attraction to Baba only and not other objects. Then they will get Baba in His Swaroop i.e. the original eternal form, and not His changeable and convertible form like money, land etc.

What should be the correct path then? To help them to create their own universe or to help them to break their own universe and merge in the universe of Baba?

Theirs is a highly individualistic and egoistic universe created by illusion (Maya). Sri Sai has the ultimate answer for His children. But here I am, standing miles away from a lamp-post, can’t clearly see the midway figures (in their own universes) better than I see the lamp-post.”…….

Shraddha And Saburi, Faith And Patience

24 Jun 2008, 1003 hrs IST, K S RAM

The Sage of Shirdi, the Saibaba, emphasised two virtues for wellbeing: faith or shraddha and patience or saburi. The two virtues are complementary.

Each is both, the cause as well as the effect of the other; and both are the means as well as the end of the other. Between them they contain a complete code of conduct for life.

Shraddha is devotion. It is faith that helps one accept all happenings — the good and bad — with equanimity. Faith is what makes a disciple trust his guru and a child, its parent.

Saburi or patience is not just the ability to overcome the urge for instant gratification. Patience is not the art of ad hoc management of mental restlessness.

Patience is the intuition that inspires you to just be and wait for the will of God to unfold and work itself out. Patience helps you to live uncomplainingly, and so you are able to accept without anger what you know cannot be changed.

Patience is what enables a tree to let all its leaves fall without demur. The tree stands denuded, without a sense of shame, despondency or heartbreak. It stands as comfortably as ever. It lets the sun, the air, the rain and the season to work their magic. They denude it; they later laden it. The tree surrenders to them, not out of helplessness but out of natural design.

When the season turns, tender new leaves dress it with flowers and fruits in due course.
Patience is not to stoically brave winter in the hope of spring; rather, it is to accept spring and winter alike. It is to surrender with a joyous heart to the will of God as represented by the current moment and condition.

Faith is the insight that tells you that patience and surrender to the will of God is the best course your life can take. Wisdom is in understanding and valuing both faith and patience. Patience is born of faith and in due course it serves to strengthen faith.

If patience and faith are so intricately woven, why did the sage emphasise these as two virtues? Why did he not advocate either this one or that? If faith is exclusively emphasised, it can promote blind belief. On the other hand, if patience is singularly emphasised, it can lead to the shirking of responsibility and indolence.

Patience without faith can become sloth. Faith minus patience can turn banal. Either way, the result will be counterproductive. In tandem, the two virtues uplift. If both patience and faith are required, which among these comes first? Where does one begin?

Asking which came first, patience or faith, is very similar to asking which came first, the egg or the chicken? It perhaps depends on an individual’s spiritual configuration as to which path suits his psyche best: faith or patience. Whichever route one may begin with, the two paths keep twinning and finally the two converge towards a common goal.

Does patience of the tree-type not kill enterprise? Surely not! Otherwise the tree would never grow and bring forth its wonderful flowers and fruits! Yet, yes: patience and faith, as they mature and begin to lodge in one’s mind, kill such enterprise as is inspired by sheer greed for material gain, unrelated to honest need.

Greed is contra life and nature. Is there any religion anywhere in the world that has upheld greedy enterprise and glorified it? No tree competes with its neighbour to double its output just to outperform the other. The supreme enterprise in life is self-realisation. Patience and faith proactively support this enterprise.

Faith and Patience are the two Paths to Reach God

Like all great teachers Sai Baba has rightly been claimed as the Mother of all virtues.

Baba often told his devotees ''Your servant's servant.

l am your debtor". I am purified by your darshan.

It is a great grace on your part to have given Me the sight of your feet".

Lord Sai Baba often preached that the attitude of "I" and "Mine'' are the result of ignorance.

The right attitude born of knowledge is that God is the Master and that all things belongs to Him -

Once Rama asked Hanuman "How do you like on me? Hanuman replied. "0 Rama, as long as I have the feeling of "I", I see that you are the whole and I am a part, you are the Master and I am you". Thus the first step in the life of a devotee is humility.

Self surrender marks the next step of a devotee. A devotee has to surrender to God himself wholly and exclusively, including his five senses-Then he becomes a personal servant of God.

The entire responsibility for his Maintenance and protection is taken up by the Lord.

In BHAQVAD GlTA Lord Kriehna said

"0 Arjuna. take refuge in Me. I shall deliver you from all sins".

Lord Sai Baba also said, "Cast all your burdens on Me and I shall bear them',.

Also as preached by Lord Krishna to Arjuna, Baba also said, "Do your duty and leave the rest to me" Because once the devotee becomes free from sin and misery, as all his actions are performed as divine duty without a thought for the result.

Let all the works be God's works all the thoughts, words and deeds are centered in God. Everyone should see God in every thing and every thing in God, loves all beings in the universe as manifestation of God.

Thus, the natural results of this self surrender are intense devotion towards God and love towards all beings in the universe, such a devotee has no disappointments in life and has no fear of death.

BABA often used to say that once a person has faith in God, he has achieved everything.

There is nothing greater than faith. The devotee's heart is full of virtues like forgiveness, spirit of non-violence, Compassion and love.

Thus, these are the virtues of the hero and the characteristic of a true devotee is a courageous patience or Saburi as Sai Baba has put it.

Sainath said "surrender yourself completely your body and soul to God.'' One, who has abundant faith (Nishta) and courageous patience (Saburi), will achieve anything what they want through the attainment of God Sai Baba

Om Sai Ram.

Patience

Patience is a divine virtue. Unfortunately, not only are we badly wanting in this divine virtue, but also we neglect it most foolishly.

Q. What is patience?

It is an inner assurance of Baba's unreserved love and unconditional guidance. Patience is Baba's power hidden in us to weather the teeming storms of life. Our fondest dreams will be transformed into fruitful realities if we just know the secret of growing the patience-tree in our heart. Patience is our sincere surrender to Baba's Will. This surrender is by no means the effacement of the finite self, which we now are, but the total transformation of your finite existence into the infinite Self.

Patience can never be imposed on us from outside. It is our own inner wealth, wisdom, peace and victory. Patience will never tell us that something is a hopeless task. Patience will only tell us either that we are not ready or that the time is not ripe. We may have the feeling that we are ready, but we have to know that our integral being, our whole being is not ready.

We have to feel that patience is not something passive. On the contrary, it is something dynamic. In patience, we develop our inner strength, our inner will power. It is true that if we have will power we can easily acquire patience. But it is equally true that when we have patience, our inner will power develops itself in a special way.

PERSEVERANCE IS THE ABILITY

"Perseverance allows you to get back on track when you hit a detour."

Perseverance is the ability to keep going in the face of continuous challenges.
It is the ability to disregard distractions and to stay focused.

You may have to take detours to get to your end goal.
But, as long as you persevere and realize that the detour is simply another
alternative path in the direction of your goal, you will continue to move forward.

Those who see a detour as a reason to quit, lack perseverance.
You will always face challenges as you work towards your goals.
Your ability to persevere will determine your ultimate success!

It takes effort and belief to persevere and stay dedicated to
accomplish your goal. When you find yourself doubting whether the
effort is worth it, visualize how you will feel and what you will have
once your goal is completed.

Persevere, and, don't let any self-doubt distract you.

Please have PATIENCE to read this story. It is nice!

There was a rich old noble who lived in a great palace. There also lived nearby a poor man in a dilapidated hut, who subsisted on crumbs of food cast away by others. But he was ever cheerful, and never complained of his ill-luck.

Once it so happened that the poor man had nothing to eat for a long while. So he went to the rich noble for help. The old noble received him kindly and asked what for he had come. The poor man said that for days he had nothing to eat and that he would be happy if he was given some food. "Is that all!" said the noble. "Come, sit down!" Then he called-out; "Boy! A very important guest has come to dine with me. Ask the chief to make ready the dinner at once, and bring some water to wash our hands."

The poor man was surprised. He had heard that the noble was a very kind man, but he did not expect such a ready welcome. He was all praise about his host. The noble at once interrupted him and said, "Don't mention it, my friend. Let us sit down for the feast." And the old noble began to rub his hands as if some water was poured on them and asked the poor man why he did not wash his hands.

The poor man found no boy or water but decided that he should do what he was told, and so he pretended to wash his hands likewise. "Now let us sit down to dinner," said the noble, and began to order various delicious dishes. But there was no trace of any food or even a single bearer.

Then the noble said to the poor man, "We have such wonderful feast before us. Enjoy yourself, my friend. You must finish all these fine dishes." And the noble pretended to eat from imaginary plates.

The poor man was faint with hunger, but kept his wits. He did not allow despair to overcome him. He also pretended to eat from the empty table. The noble now and then exclaimed, "What a delicious soup! The curry is wonderful, isn't it my friend?" The poor man replied, "Sure, sure!" "Then why not have some more," and the noble pretended to dish out some imaginary curry. Likewise, he pressed more and more imaginary dishes on the poor man and asked him if they tasted all right.

Though desperately hungry, the poor man thanked his host profusely and said that he had never eaten such a glorious feast in his life. He did not betray a sign of remorse. He kept on maintaining the face cheerfully without the least affectation, as though everything was real.

The noble was a generous person. He was a man of charitable disposition. He wanted to test whether the poor man would give way to despair. He had heard of his reputation that he never lost patience. He thought that such a contented, cheerful person as this poor man should not starve and suffer from poverty. But he had his doubts. So he himself wanted to test him. Now he found that, all that was said about him was true.

The noble then clapped his hands and a retinue of servants came in with all the delicious dishes he had been mentioning. An elaborate dinner was laid on the table. This time the poor man did not have to pretend. He now ate heartily with the noble.

After they had finished their meals, the noble said, "Friend, you are a man of infinite patience. You know well how to make best of everything and bear adversity cheerfully. You are the man I was looking for to manage one of my farms. You should live with me hereafter."

Thereupon the poor man did not have to suffer any more from poverty.

This story has several lessons for the common man to learn. When the poor man went to the rich man, he did not ask for any charity so that he might dispense with begging for some days. This shows that he was not greedy. He lived in the present. He wanted some food and he asked for only that. Now, if he had asked for some money, he would have got it, and would have spent it in a few days, only to revert back to his former poverty. He did not ask any more than what he needed immediately, and this paved the way for his good luck in being employed in the rich man's farm.

When the poor man was harassed by his host with imaginary dishes, he did not lose his patience in spite of his extreme hunger. If he had done so, he would have been asked to get out and would have lost his dinner as well as his unforeseen appointment.

He did not either complain about his ill-luck or bewail his misfortune as an ordinary beggar would have done before a rich man.

Hence the moral is that :

one must be patient and make the best of everything.
One should learn to bear adversity cheerfully, do one's best, pray to God, and trust in His grace.
One should never complain about one's misfortune. As one soweth so one reapeth. Hence there is no use in bewailing ill luck.
One must learn how to master courage and build one's destiny through self-effort.

Patience is golden.
Without patience life will be a total failure.
One important point in this story is that when one goes to somebody for any favour, one should be prepared, to nod to his tune, if anything is to be expected from him.

Greed and the Grace of God cannot live together.  :)

Where there is greed, there good luck can hardly exist. One should learn to live in the present, and ask for nothing more than one's due.  :)

With patience, cheerfulness, contentment and amiable disposition one should learn to make the best of the circumstances one is situated in.

   :)

When Sri Shirdi Sai was in His mortal body at Shirdi, devotees used to flock around Him on the New Year’s Eve to get His blessings, and Sri Sainath used to bless everyone.

On one such occasion during the New Year’s Day, Sri Sainath told a devotee “Think, what you have done last year. Try to evolve your soul because the life is not a year, a month or a day. It is a time continuum spreading over millenniums. The soul is beyond this concept of year, month or day.”

Some people believe in living for today only. The wiser men have always lived not only for yesterday and today, but also for tomorrow. Tomorrow will justify today as today explains yesterday. Therefore, it is good to live today but in a way that one does not die tomorrow. The essence of humanity or a human being which is the latest development in the process of evolution of nature, lies in its contribution towards the growth of nature in the fellow beings and also all other living creations.

Sri Sai saw no difference between one person and another and between living and non‐living. Today, there stand two tombs at Shirdi, one for a horse and other for a tiger as a monumental evidence of this universal love of Sri Sai. This being the theme of the Sai Movement, let us resolve to do our little bit in helping others to grow. Sri Sai was love. Let love prevail in a world of contradiction and antagonism.

Shri. C.B. Satpathy Ji ( Guru Ji )

Shri Satpathy ji is very religious since his childhood. His inborn divine qualities nourished and blossomed under very pious and caring eyes of his father. As if Shri Sai himself as a father took care of him. Satpathyji found a friend a guide and a divine teacher in his father.

At first it is difficult to belive that Shri Satpathy Ji has been a police officer all his life and was a recipient of of the President's gold medal for bravery. But to the hundreds who flock to his house, his official rank is immaterial. To them, he is simply the man with the healing touch, they earnestly believe that he can look into the future and solve their problems. This is what brings them every Saturday to the Chatterpur temple of Baba. Satpathyji's asset is no professional astrologer, it's his instinct in him which prompts his predictions.

The number of people, who have come in contact with 'Guru Ji' to find solutions to their Materialistic, Psychological, Commercial & Health problems or for their Spiritual upliftment runs not in Thousands but in Millions.

To some Shri Satpathyji is like a BROTHER. Some look towards him as a FATHER figure and very many see him as a Guide who helps them spiritually to understand and feel Shri Sai Baba - Thus they call him very aptly Guru ji. Guru ji treats everyone like a dear and beloved child of Shri Sai and addresses every lady very affectionately as 'Maa' (Mother).

Shri Chandra Bhanu Satpathy has many incredible predictions to his credit. He had foreseen Sanjay Gandhi's death and when his prediction came true, the intelligence agencies were after him for a long time. Having thus burnt his fingers, he no longer predicts events in the lives of political personalities. In 1990 he predicted the downfall of dictatorial regimes, whether headed by individuals or military juntas. He was the only astrologer to correctly predict the return of Mikhail Gorbachev. His other prediction about the USSR have also been proved true. But SatpathyJi is not merely an astrologer. "My aim is to help people", he says. An IPS officer, he has finished his tenure with the ministry of Civil Aviation and is now posted as Director Vigilance. His help comes in various ways. Known as Guruji, he is the last resort and very often the saviour of those who have nowhere else to turn.

To some he suggests simple remedies like charcoal into a river to propitiate the wrath of "Rahu", the usual advice of any other astrologer, but for some he cures chronic asthma, hypertension and insomnia. This is precisely what makes Satpathyji so special ; he has psychic reach that goes beyond mere astrology.

Shri Satpathyji not only helps the needy one's with Shri Sai's blessed powers but also by living as a family man, sets an example in front of Sai devotees and other people at large that ONE CAN LIVE IN THIS MATERIALISTIC WORLD OF MONEY, RELATIONS & LINKED DUTIES AND STILL BE PIOUS AND BE A DETACHED 'SAINT' AT HEART. No wonder, Guru ji always guides Sai devotees to look towards Shri Sai Baba as their 'FATHER, BROTHER AND LOVED ONE'. Then only we would be able to REALISE SAI AND UNDERSTAND SAI AS GOD, with great ease. Guru ji teaches a lot by a mere look than verbal doctrines. His eyes'Emit'power of LOVE AND AFFECTION that's why, we say he is blessed by Shri Sai. Shri Sai also used to cure many people just by his glance.

Today with Guru ji's blessings, Shri Sai movement is spreading at a great pace throughout the country and even abroad. Because RELIGION OF LOVE is Shri Sai and it knows no boundaries. Guru ji preaches that a single drop of tear from the eyes of a pious person can move - be it Shri Sai or Christ, in a fraction of a second. Thus Guru ji does not recommend the path of running away from the world in search of God but encourages and lends spiritual support to seekers, to become pious and find Shri Sai within us while fighting the materialistic battle.

Guruji's message

The easiest way to spiritual evolution is to:

Believe that the Sadguru is the Divine incarnation to lead people towards temporal and spiritual development.

To follow the path laid down by Him as reflected in His earthly conduct and preachings.

To understand that no man how much ever he strives, can evolve in the spiritual field beyond a certain limit without the help and kindness of a Sadguru. Even incarnations like Shri Krishna and Shri Rama, in the process of experiencing the God state in Them, had to be helped by Sandeepani and Vasishta, the Sadgurus of the time.

To focus the entire spiritual conciousiiess on the Sadgurus, both in Sakara (formed) or Nirakar (formless) and worship them.

To believe that the Guru is the repositor of all Divine powers -and therefore, He alone should be made the mainstay of one's life.

The beginning of a New Year does not really indicate a sudden change in the forces of nature in terms of building or destroying anything ‐ thereby introducing a new theme unto the world, which hitherto did not exist. It is in fact beginning of an astronomical calculation. Nonetheless, in human beings it rouses new hopes and aspirations for a better tomorrow. In order to usher in a better tomorrow, we have to create a better today. To create a better today we have to forget and forgive the mistakes and pains of yesterday and start ahead.

We must muse over our imperfections of yesterday and try to evolve towards a little more perfection.

• He taught us that by expansion of our love to other fellow beings and even the other species one can consolidate society.

• He also taught that rigorous and technical methods need not be used for spiritual upliftment. All that is needed is to bring about a qualitative change in one’s way of thinking and way of working in daily life.
• He brought about a cohesive theme amidst the opposing themes of inter‐cultural, inter‐religious and inter‐sectorial groups.

This He achieved by allowing each group to have its own mode of living, religious and cultural practices. He succeeded in bringing out a way of life at Shirdi, which reflected a confluence of varied cultures and religions.
His simple act of accepting a piece of stale bread from an old diseased woman when the more affluent class were offering Him the best of food, justifies the dictum that “God loves the poorest of the poor”. His emphasis on Bhagoji Rao Shinde, a leper patient, to take care of his body in applying balm to His wounds indicates His least concern for gross body. His residing in Dwarakamayi masjid and carrying out at times Hindu rituals indicates His being above all religions.
This then is the real Sai spirit. If we are true Sai devotees we must try to imbibe the Sai spirit.
The best pledge we can take in the New Year is to decide to flow along with the Sai spirit that a confused and battered world of today needs.

Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy

What does the two cardinal principle of Baba depict?

Shraddha
'Shraddha' in a Sanskrit word, which has no equivalent in English, at best it can be understood as, faith with love and reverence. Such faith or trust is generated out of conviction, which may not be the result of any rational belief or intellectual wisdom, but a spiritual inspiration. Baba sowed the seeds of spiritual inspiration in the hearts of people who knew of him. This Divine inspiration was so instant and profound that they automatically took refuge in Him.

Baba reiterated that steadfast love in God as the gateway to eternity. He used the instance of mother tortoise to illustrate this point. The mother - tortoise may be on the other side of the river, whereas her children are on the far side. She does not transfer food and water to her children by way of her loving glances. Yet, her loving looks are enough to protect the children. Similarly, people who lovingly look at God get His reciprocity. God's looks offer peace, protection and prosperity for His children. Baba's teaching, both direct and indirect explicate the significance of 'Shraddha'. Baba reiterates the spiritual guidance of Shri Krishna to Arjun - "Who-so ever offer to Me with love or devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, that offering of pure love is readily accepted by Me".

Saburi
'Saburi'; is patience and perseverance. Saburi is a quality needed throughout the path to reach the goal. This quality must be ingrained in a seeker from day one, least he looses his stride and leaves the path half way. As a hunter waits patiently and motionlessly for his target a devotee too has to wait patiently for attaining his goal. There are many trying situations in life. A test may come in the form of frustration, distress, agony, illness, mishaps, prolonged wait or a loss. In such moments we should seek support from the Master and hold on him.

If patience means anything it should last till the end, and faith will see us through every turmoil of life.

Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy

Most of the devotees of Shri Shirdi Sai Baba are reported to have spiritual experiences, many of which are in the form of miracles, which not only enhances their faith in Baba but also spiritually uplifts them. If one goes through such experiences of devotees as depicted in Shri Sai Satcharitra and other literature on Sai Baba and compares them with the experiences of the present day devotees one would find a close similarity pertaining to many of them. Shri Khaparde, a prominent advocate of Amravati near Nagpur, who used to visit Shirdi frequently, and Kakasaheb Dixit who devoted the later part of his life in the services of Baba at Shirdi have recorded details of such experiences in their diaries. When one hears about some of the common experiences reported by devotees, one's mind is transported to Baba's time at Shirdi. Imaginations become vivid, all worries cease to exist and time seems to stand still. Most devotees have reported that they used to get spiritually charged at the very sight of Baba; disturbing and uncontrollable thoughts of their mind used to vanish, a feeling of purity and love would engulf them. Baba had a unique way of communicating with his devotees through language, look and touch besides the extremely strong and vibrant spiritual thought waves. He used to relate his thought waves even from afar. These powerful thought waves used to appear in the form of vivid dreams and ideas in the minds of his devotees to convey certain impulses, directions, forewarnings, future happenings and Baba's love. Those who followed these directions with an open mind benefited amply. While such directions were related by Baba in dreams, the results were seen taking shape suddenly or in due course of time in the actual realities of their worldly life. For example, one devotee saw Baba giving him yellow rice in his dream. When he got up he found yellow rice sprinkled all over his bed. Similarly another devotee found a coconut in his bed when awakened from sleep.

Another direct experience as depicted in the Shri Sai Satcharitra was in 1917, when Hemadpant had a dream wherein he saw Baba in the form of a Sanyasi promising to come to Hemadpant's house for meals that day. At lunchtime, just as the family was about to begin eating, two men, Ali Mahomed and Moulana Ismu Mujavar, appeared at the door and handed over a picture of Sai Baba to Hemadpant. Hemadpant was much moved at the thought that Baba had indeed blessed him by gracing his house for lunch.

There are numerous experiences about Baba appearing physically in different and distant places, while he was in his human embodiment at Shirdi. Devotees have reported that Baba, while sitting in front of the Dhuni in the morning at the mosque, would often refer to distant places and other worlds he had visited overnight despite being physically present at Shirdi. A famous incident is narrated in Shri Sai Satcharitra in 1910, when Baba, sitting near the Dhuni, pushing firewood into it, suddenly pushed his arm into the Dhuni thereby burning his hand. On enquiry by the devotees, he replied that at some distant place, the wife of a blacksmith was working at the furnace with her child tied to her waist. When her husband called her, she suddenly got up and the child slipped into the furnace. Baba thrust his hand into the Dhuni to save the child from the furnace. Another devotee, B.V Deo had sent a letter to Bapu Saheb Jog in Shirdi requesting Baba's presence in a group lunch he had arranged. Baba promised to attend the lunch with two other persons and did so by appearing in the form of a Sanyasi with two followers.

The greater miracles of Baba are instances of control of natural forces like fire, air and water (rain). The Satcharitra narrates of an evening when torrential rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm hit Shirdi flooding it entirely. This terrified all the disciples, animals and birds who took refuge at Dwarakamai Masjid and prayed for help. At their request Baba commanded the cloud in a thunderous voice to stop its fury and to allow his children to go their houses. Within minutes the rain stopped and the storm settled down. Another instance documented was on an afternoon when flames from Baba's dhuni rose up to the roof of Dwarakamai Masjid threatening to burn it. Baba took his satka (stick) and hit a pillar commanding the fire to calm down. At each stroke of the satka the flames gradually settled to normalcy. Baba gave numerous other types of experiences to his devotees but it would not be possible to codify or cite such examples due to lack of space.

The more surprising and interesting fact to note is that even after departure from his bodily abode in 1918 and till the present day, devotees continue to report similar experiences. Truly speaking, even on the day Baba left his body and thereafter, devotees have been experiencing such unexplainable events. Such experiences of Baba are not limited to the gullible and uneducated rural youth as is commonly believed to be, but cuts across the 'intelligentsia' of the society including lawyers, professors, officials, doctors, scientists and others. It is interesting to observe that even in this era of esoteric, atomic individualism, with population (the number of devotees) having increased manifold, where rationality and objectivity rules the minds of the people, such spiritual experiences continue to affect millions.

Cutting across the man made differentiations of caste, races, religions, socio-economic diversities, all are making a beeline to Baba's Samadhi at Shirdi as Baba had once uttered in a state of spiritual ecstasy. Despite the modern day youth's affinity to western culture, Baba's message remains ever relevant and appealing. That is why so many temples have come up across the globe. Sai Baba not only crossed the boundaries of humanism but gave shelter to all living creatures. The Sai Satcharitra narrates numerous instances of his compassion towards dogs, snakes, horses, tigers and even birds.

Today on an average 35,000 people visit Shirdi every day and on weekends the numbers go upto a lakh or more. There has been a phenomenal growth in the Sai faith as can be seen in the astronomical growth in the number of temples, literary publications, devotional music etc. The number of devotees dedicated to spread the name and message of Shri Shirdi Sai Baba is mind-boggling. Today the Sai movement is not limited only to Maharashtra as was during the time of Baba, but within decades of his departure has crossed the national boundaries to become a global movement. This new era of 'Saiism' does not touch the religious aspect of the devotee's life only but affects and permeates all aspects of an individual's life (family, culture, social behavior etc). For the devotees Shri Sai Baba is not a part of their life but their life itself in all its aspects.

The spirit of Sai is more active and alive today than perhaps it ever was. This raises in our mind a fundamental question - 'Who is Sai Baba?' Some address him as a Sadguru, some as a fakir, some as a Yogiraj, some as a saint and to most of the devotees he is 'God the Almighty' Himself. He has been accepted as an incarnation (Saguna Sakara avatara), which means, God who in human form walked on earth. History has shown that the expansion of religions and/or faiths started by the incarnations expanded phenomenally after they left their human embodiment. This was the case with Jesus Christ, Buddha, Mohammed and Shri Krishna. The Sai movement is ever on the increase in a similar manner, which goes to reinforce the faith that Sai Baba was an incarnation of God (Paramatma). This goes to prove Baba's promise that after leaving his body he will be ever active from his tomb to protect and guide his devotees. As Baba had once promised, He continues to exist in a subtle form (Mahakarana sheath) as a unifying force, to spread and re-establish compassion, love, truth and tolerance amongst human beings and among all living entities on earth.

Let us welcome and embrace this age of Sai, who is the panacea for all the evils of the present world, torn asunder by forces of regionalism, racialism, economic and social differences, religious bigotry, fanaticism and lack of faith in 'God'. Let us look forward to a happier tomorrow; let the name of Shri Sai resonate in all corners of the globe.

Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy   :)

……“While at Shirdi, Baba used to mutter something occasionally, a sort of loud-thinking, which only He understood. At times, He would say astound¬ing things either completely out of context for the listeners or out of reach of their imagination. On one such occasion, He was heard telling a devotee that in future big buildings would come up in Shirdi, big people would visit the place and also that people would make a bee-line there. The meanings of His divine utterances were not understood then. Today a crowd - at average of about thirty thousand, is visiting Shirdi every day. People from all parts of India, both the richest and the poorest, are visiting Shirdi. Baba can never be wrong as He had knowledge of the past and future, not only of the individuals meeting Him but also about events before and after the duration of His physical existence.

Incarnations like Baba playa role, both at micro and macro levels. At the micro-level, they take care of the individual souls, not only of human beings but also of other species, who are drawn to them by their mighty will like chained birds, as Baba used to say. Baba used to recall His past life relationships with many of them, in one case, stretching as far back as seventy-two lives. He also spoke about the past lives of other species. At a macro-level, Baba once commented that during 1854 and 1858, He was busy with Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, thereby, indicating his role in the transitional phase of Indian history. Earlier, Baba had spoken about Mughal Emperor Humayun and the birth of Akbar in which he had a role to play.

Limited human intelligence can only perceive the activities at micro-level of the Perfect Masters; it can never perceive their role at the macro-level. History, therefore, is a limited projection of human activities at micro-level. No historian so far, has been able to bring about the hidden game of the Perfect Masters behind all the temporal powers on this earth.”…….

Rinanubandh, Karmic Debt Of Past Lives....

The Friend and Foe Syndrome
FROM SHRI C.B. SATPATHY'S MESSAGE

When in distress we seek for someone to help us. We pray God for His divine intervention. We try to cash on the social position of our relatives and friends alike for that purpose. However we do not, at times, get the desired help, all our efforts notwithstanding. On the other hand, at times, someone unexpectedly appears on the scene and helps us. Then we thank God for sending such a helpful friend. Thereafter while introducing this friend to others we address him as my friend. In this context keeping in view the basic principles of the Hindu karma theory as pronounced in our scriptures and practiced by the spiritual masters, a moot question need to be answered i.e. does or does not the cause and effect dynamics operate here?

The karma theory would say that this helpful friend was an associated character of a certain past life and was to pay back the good act of rendering help as Rinanubandh (payment of the past debts). It means that by ones deeds of the past life (lives), one has earned this friend. Be that as it may, let us examine this issue from the point of view of the sudden appearance of an enemy at a certain distressful point of time in life. Our immediate reaction begins from annoyance and leads to revenge ex-anger. There after we normally start vilifying him and address him as my enemy.

Thus, our entire life sees the world as full of my friends and my enemies. But if our friends were created by our past deeds, which we glorify secretly then is it not logical that our enemies must have been created by certain acts committed by us in the past life (lives). Let us therefore agree to say that in our lives my friends and my enemies have to be equally addressed, as both have been created by me and are mine. Since both of them have been created due to karmic bandhan (Rinanubandh) isnt it our duty to neutralize the effects of both in this life so that we dont carry forward the seeds of cause-effect to the next life. Herein karma theory would say that a friend returns the pleasurable experience(s) as we had given same or similar pleasurable experiences to him in a past life.

Similarly an enemy would pay back the unpleasant or painful experience(s) because we had given him same or similar painful experience(s) in the past. When facing a situation of unhappiness created by the enemy we have two options in dealing with him-either by going through painful experience(s) we neutralize its effects or by reacting adversely we carry forward a chain of reaction to future lives. Here comes in the wisdom of saints like Shri Shirdi Sai Baba.

The story of the frog and snake named as Chenbassapa and Veerbhadrappa respectively as illustrated in Shri Sai Satcharitra is a pointer towards the correct answer to our question. Shri Sai Baba has advised His devotees not to react sharply and adversely towards enemies with equal and opposite negativities but to allow negative effects of past karmas reflected through the enemy to neutralize gradually. This highly evolved and critical theory of Karma (cause and effects) can perhaps be better understood through a simple example.

Suppose one releases an arrow from a bow, then what happens! The arrow at the release point will move with the highest velocity and will gradually slow down due to mid-air friction and take a curvaceous path due to the gravity of earth before hitting the target. However, the moment it hits the target or failing which hits the earth, its force is neutralized. This means that more the distance the arrow travels the less momentum it creates at the impact point. Greater distance means greater time and less impact.

When we assimilate the basic principles of these two theories of metaphysics and physics, we come to the conclusion that instead of directly reacting to an enemys wrath, it is wiser to show a little tolerance and allow time to reduce the impact of the enemys conduct. When Shri Sai Baba spoke of Saburi it included this aspect of handling of enemies with patience and consideration. This message of the seers handed over to the human society from time to time is unfortunately lost sight of and that is the cause of most of the social malice that we face today.

Let us pray Shri Sai to give us the intellect and wisdom to make tomorrows world a happier place to stay by following His principle of Shraddha and Saburi.

Message of  Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy

……“These great souls are called the Sadgurus or Perfect Masters or Qutubs or Adepts. Shirdi Sai Baba was not only the Param Sadguru of His time but is the incarnation of this Age. That is why even after departure from the physical existence His influence is spreading allover the globe. Highly self-motivated devotees are doing yeoman job to propagate His preaching. Sai is as He was. Today under His benefic influence, the Sai Age has dawned and this is what every devotee has to understand.

The role of the incarnation is more expansive and spreads over thousands of years. We should celebrate Guru Purnima as a token of love for these great souls who made total sacrifice of themselves for the evolution of mankind, and ameliorating the sufferings of crores of human beings that come in direct or indirect contact with them. The least one can do to these infinitely merciful entities is to remember them, pray to them and follow them.”…….

Title: Faith and Patience are the two Paths to Reach God Sai Baba
Post by: SS91 on January 20, 2012, 08:03:57 PM
Faith and Patience are the two Paths to Reach God Sai Baba

(As appeared in the Dwarakamayi Magazine Published from Hyderabad August 1989)

Sai Baba, the sage of Shirdi, has been pouring out his divine love and blessings to thousands and hundreds of thousands since 1845. Thus unending stream of devotees st Shirdi day in and day out is but a manifestation of divine Love, Compassion and Pitv. Sai Baba is the most powerfull sage, who bears all the burdens of humanity.

Like all great teachers Sai Baba has rightly been claimed as the Mother of all virtues. Baba often told his devotees ''Your servant's servant lam. lam your debtor". I am purified by your darshan. It is a great grace on your part to have given Me the sight of your feet".

Lord Sai Baba often preached that the attitude of "I" and "Mine'' are the result of ignorance. The right attitude born of knowledge is that God is the Master and that all things belongs to Him - Once Rama asked Hanuman "How do you like on me? Hanuman replied. "0 Rama, as long as I have the feeling of "I", I see that you are the whole and I am a part, you are the Master and I am you". Thus the first step in the life of a devotee is humility.

Self surrender marks the next step of a devotee. A devotee has to surrender to God himself wholly and exclusively, including his five senses-Then he becomes a personal servant of God. The entire responsibility for his Maintenance and protection is taken up by the Lord. In BHAQVAD GlTA Lord Krishna said

"0 Arjuna. take refuge in Me. I shall deliver you from all sins". Lord Sai Baba also said, "Cast all your burdens on Me and I shall bear them',. Also as preached by Lord Krishna to Arjuna, Baba also said, "Do your duty and leave the rest to me" Because once the devotee becomes free from sin and misery, as all his actions are performed as devine duty without a thought for the result.

Hence, Faith, Patience and Love are the ways to fulfill our Material goals as well as to reach 'Moksha'

Where is God?

There is nowhere where He is not. Just as one thread penetrates all the flowers in a garland, so also, one Self penetrates all these living beings. He is hidden in all beings and forms, like oil in seed, butter in milk, mind in brain, Prana in the body, fetus in the womb, sun behind the clouds, fire in wood, vapor in the atmosphere, salt in water, scent in flowers, sound in the gramophone records, gold in quartz, microbes in blood.

God dwells in all beings as life and consciousness. God is in the roar of a lion, the song of a bird, and the cry of a babe. Feel His presence everywhere. See God in the wings, of a butterfly, in the letters Alpha and Omega, in the cough of a patient, in the murmur of a brook, in the sound of a bell. Behold the wonder of the Lord's face in every object of this world.

Every breath that flows in the nose, every beat that throbs in the heart, every artery that pulsates in the body, every thought that arises in the mind, speaks to you that God is near. Every flower that wafts fragrance, every fruit that attracts you, every gentle breeze that blows, every river that smoothly flows, speaks of God and His mercy.

The vast ocean with its powerful waves, the mighty Himalayas with its glaciers, the bright sun and stars in the wide sky, the lofty tree with its branches, the cool springs in the hills and dales, tell you of His omnipotence. The music of the sweet singers, the lectures of the Powerful orators, the poems of the reputed poets, the inventions of the able scientists, the operations of the dexterous surgeons, the utterances of the holy saints, the thoughts of the Bhagavad Gita, the revelations of the Upanishads, speak of God and His wisdom.

Everything is God. Good is God. Misfortune is God. Greet Him in everything and rest peacefully in bliss. God pervades the entire universe. He walks in the garb of a beggar. He moans in pain in the guise of the sick. He wanders in the forest clad in rags. Open your eyes. See Him in all. Serve all. Love all.

Feel the Divine Presence everywhere-in every form, in every thought, in every feeling and in every sentiment, in every movement, in every emotion.

God, seen through the senses, is matter. God, seen through the intellect, is mind. God, seen through the spirit, is Atman or the Self.

Thou art indwelt by the Lord. He is the inner ruler, Antaryamin, guarding and controlling your life. He is in you and you are in Him. He is quite close to you. He is not very far, but is nearer to you than you are to yourself. You were thinking in the beginning that He could be found only in Mount Kailas, Ramesvaram, Mecca, Jerusalem, sky or heaven. You had very vague ideas. This body is His moving temple. The sanctum sanctorum is the chamber of your own heart. Close your eyes. Withdraw your Indriyas from the sensual objects. Search Him in thy heart with one-pointed mind, devotion, and pure love. You will surely find Him. He is waiting there with outstretched arms to embrace you. If you cannot find Him there, you cannot find Him anywhere else.

Surrender to the Supreme Perfect Master - Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi

No man on earth has evolved beyond a certain point without any help. For that complete support, assistance from a guide and faith in him is essential. Only one who has treaded the path and crossed the obstacles can correctly guide others. And who is the guide who has treaded the path and knows the secrets of nature? It is the Perfect Master or the Sadguru. Shri Sai had once said that there are many paths of spiritual evolution – “There is one path through Shirdi.'' He also said, " One can cross the jungle path with the proper guide”. The path obviously means the path of evolution God wards through the thick forest of Maya. When the path ends one merges with God and to such a person there is no meaning of time as he has gone beyond it. To conquer time, therefore, we have to hold on steadfastly to our 'Param Sadguru' the Supreme Master Shri Sai Baba who has gone beyond the concept of time.

Hemadpant records in the Sri Sai Satcharitra that nobody knew of Sai's parents, birth or birth-place. Many a times enquiries were made and questions asked of Baba and others, but no clear or satisfactory answer ever manifested. By one account, he was said to have been born to a Brahmin couple who gave the child away to a Sufi saint, Roshan Shah, for upbringing. But this is not substantiated. Saints like Namdev and Kabir were in the same league; none knew of their birth since they were found as infants in mother-of-pearl shells. Namdev was found on the bank of Bhimrathi River by Gonayi, and Kabir on the bank of Bhagirathi River. Sai was "found" in Shirdi.

In keeping with the Bhakti cult prevalent at the time, it seems Sai Baba was an inheritor of the traditions of Maharashtra that began with Gyaneshwar (also spelt Jnaneshwar). Jnandeva was born between AD 1270-75 and wrote his tome Jnaneshwari in 1290. He was followed by Sopana (1277-96), Muktabai (1279-97), Namdeva (1270-1350), Eknatha (1533-199) and Tukaram (1608-1650). The last great Maharashtrian saint before Baba was Ramadas (1608-1681). Thus, Sai Baba's origins can be found in the rich tradition of saints who are part of Maharashtra's history and culture. Baba was "born" in Marathwada, which was long under Muslim rule. With Karnataka and Tilang-Andhra, this region formed part of the Deccan Plateau. These three regions have a common calendar called Shalivahan Shaka and share a linked cultural heritage. The Satvahanas, Rashtrakutas and the Chalubas ruled over the region during the first twelve centuries.

Even before Jnandeva, two strong religious streams dominated the land: the first was the Mahanubhavas and the other, the Nathas. Namdev, a contemporary of Jnandeva, carried on the Vitthal sampradaya (sect) and was the main fulcrum of Pandharpur, which gained prominence during Namdev's time. Both Namdev and Jnandeva were brothers of the same sampradaya and after Jnandeva's demise in 1296, Namdev proceeded to the north, to be in Punjab for twenty-one years, hence his cult grew in north India too. His outpourings and writings, called abhangs, grew in popularity, especially under Tukaram and Ramadas (whose most famous disciple was Shivaji, the great Maratha leader) and came to be sung in both parts of the country. Such can be the outreach of saints.

The Maharashtra plateau was ruled, since the twelfth century, from Devagiri (Daulatabatl), an ancient fortified capital. The city was built by Bhillana, the fountlcr of thc Yaclava dynasty. He died in AD 1191 and was succeeded by King Jaipal who ruled till 1210.

His rule was followed by Singhana, whose rule extended till Mathura in the north and Kaveri Delta in the south. Towards the end of the thirteenth century, great creative activity took place in Deccan Plateau and many works of literary and artistic excellence emerged.

Between 1318 and 1347, Devagiri was ruled by the Khiljis, and later the Tughlaks (when under Mohammad-bin, the capital was shifted from Delhi to Daultabad). For three hundred years thenceforth, the entire Deccan Plateau came under the influence of Muslim sultans. Hindus and Muslims tried to maintain cordial relations, sometimes by alliances like when the sultan of Bijapur, Yusuf Adil Shah married a Maratha princess. The minister Muhammad Gawan employed Hindus in state services and supported religious tolerance. Emperor Adil Shah (1534-57) went to a neighbouring ruler to pay an official visit to the emperor of Vijayanagara, showing him to be an equal.

Several smaller strains also contributed significantly in maintaining harmony. A Muslim governor in 1326 ordered the reinstallation of a Shiva lingam in Madhukeshwara temple at Kalyani. Allauddin Ahmed II was comforted during illness by a sage of Gangapur, who worshipped Dattatreya.

Later, however, the struggle between the Deccan Sultanate and the Vijayanagara rulers led to the Battle of Talikotta and the destruction of Hampi, the capital city. The Deccan Sultanate fell into oblivion with the coming of Mughal powers from central and north India. By 1636, the Nizam Shahi kingdom was wiped out. The Bijapur kingdom ceased to be an independent entity and became part of the Mughal empire in 1686. Golconda suffered a similar fate in 1687. By then the British, who had come for trade, slowly took over the political domination of many regions of the country. For the next two hundred years, an assortment of European rulers, dominated mostly by the British, ruled the country.

By the time the Sepoy Mutiny or the First War of Independence took place in 1857, Sai Baba was all of just about twenty!

Title: Faith and Patience :Shradha Aur Saburi of Sai Baba of Shirdi

Faith and Patience

The two keywords that Sai Baba would repeat to all his followers seem to be finally coming home to me.

Shradha means patience and saburi means faith. All my life I have never been religious for the simple reason that my parents have a mixed marriage.

My father is a Maharashtrian Hindu Kshatriya and my mother is a Parsi Zoroastrian.

They had a love marriage and for both of them religion never made a difference. They preferred being good human beings to being idol worshipers.

So I grew up in a house where a line of gods from all religions sat on the altar, which incidentally was dusted everyday, but not prayed before everyday.

For any special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary or any religion’s major holiday we would gather before the altar and light a diya that would last twenty four hours. Then the gods would be forgotten till the next big event in the house. In fact unlike other kids who tell stories of standing and praying before the altar before exams, I never did.

My mother believes that each one of us has a “hot line” to God and if we want something we must ask him directly. There is no need for a pandit or priest to help us and nor is there a need for special prayers.

Anything that comes directly from your heart will be passed on to Him. So I used to sit with my study books and look at the problem which I could not solve and mentally tell God, don’t let this one come in the exam. Worked like a charm most of the time.

I knew that if I wanted something badly enough it would happen, but I did not have the Shradha and Saburi (Patience and Faith) to believe that it would happen. Of late that has changed. I recently have rediscovered a number of people on the internet whom I had given up hope of ever seeing again.

One such school friend came down to Agra on business and wanted to catch up. So we decided to meet at a popular coffee house and when I was on my way I got stuck in the worst grid lock ever, something that would not clear up for at least a few hours.

I had my child with me and my friend was waiting. I felt that it was the worst idea I had had in a long time. Then just like that I decided to test Sai Baba, I told him that the grid lock must clear in the next ten minutes as I can’t be stuck here with my baby for hours.

I looked at the clock at the dashboard and kept inching forward as best as I could. Finally we did clear it and when I saw the clock it was just thirty minutes past the time I said I want this grid lock to clear. So maybe my faith was not strong enough but it was strengthened.

Then last light while putting the layers of quilts on my child and myself I felt my diamond ring slide out of my finger. I put the lights on and started shaking the layers but it would not come out. I then noticed that the light of the diya in front of Sai Baba was not burning. It is something that I relight every time it goes off.

So I went and stood before him, said a short prayer to find my ring, lit the diya and returned to the bedroom. I saw the ring twinkling up at me from the carpet at the foot of the bed. My saburi was rewarded and now I have a lot more patience when I ask him for things.

If it works for me and my family it will work for you. It is based on the “Law of Attraction”. You can attract what you want to yourself, you only need the perseverance, patience and faith to do it.

Shraddha (Faith) and Saburi (Patience) - Twin Sisters

Sai Baba’s Guru asked for two coins from his disciples and that is ‘Shraddha’ and ‘Saburi’. Both are not different. They are the sides of two coins, if one is there; other has to be present. The rate at which Shraddha is strong, so is Saburi’s identity and vice versa. Saburi is a mine of virtues and Shraddha is Saburi’s life. It is not possible to think that we would get fruits immediately, today or tomorrow while walking on the path of devotion to Sai Baba. It may happen that we don’t get the fruits immediately so we should not get disappointed. We must take care that our love and trust should not decrease by not getting the desired results. Our devotion should be strong enough to wait for the right time to get the results. When questions like “My devotion is not up to the mark or Sai Baba doesn’t listen me” or “I don’t get answers to my question” crop up in our mind, we get depressed and this weakens the back bone of devotion. So it is inevitable and necessary that the reactions of devotion should not be like this. We should learn to see difficulty from a positive point of view. So we should keep patience and give it a place in our lives also.

Can anyone imagine that a seed sown in the ground become a tree and bear fruits immediately? The seed does its natural work in the ground. This effect is not seen outside. To see the effect some patience is essential. The water in the sea becomes vapour due the rays of the sun. This vapour then gets converted into clouds which give us rain. But this process cannot occur in few minutes, it requires a long time. Most of the phenomenon are invisible, but have their own importance. The earth quake which occurs is also not a phenomenon of few minutes or a day, but the process take places from long time in the earth’s crust. The mother has to bear so much pain to give birth to a child. For this she has to keep much patience and courage.

If we don’t get desired answers while walking on the path of devotion, generally we become depressed or we are left without faith। To overcome this situation it is very necessary to have patience। Devotees should leave the thought of getting something from their devotion; instead they should try to go ahead in the matter of spirituality. This again requires patience. Sai Baba said, “If a man does any deed, he would get it’s result one day”. Saburi is a tough test to be passed on the path of devotion. This test can be taken by Guru only. A common man goes to a market to purchase an earthen pot which is of very nominal value i.e. Rs. 20-25. He pays for the pot only after checking the pot by turning it around again and again. Likewise in the path of devotion, the devotion should not be outwardly or just to show off. It must come from within. It should encourage us.

किसी को खिल के हंसाना ,
इससे बड़ी इर्बदत नही,
किसी को शिरडी खली हाथ लौटना,
श्री साई की आदत नही

Shraddha is as much important as Saburi. Shraddha is the foundation of the path of devotion and Saburi is the time taken to walk on that path. The path of devotion is a personal experience of one’s deeds. One has to do all the tasks himself while walking on the path of devotion. No one can do anything without surrendering himself to his Guru. If we have to repair our gold ornaments, we have to give i.e. surrender our gold ornaments to the goldsmith. So unless we surrender our mind to our Guru (Sai Baba), we won’t get any result. After surrendering to our Guru now requirement of Saburi is necessary. The fruit of complete devotion is Guru’s blessings and God’s blessings. But God or Guru are eager to pour their blessings only on the one who has complete faith and devotion on them. Now to fill up the blessings, God/Guru requires a container/vessel. Likewise each food/eatable requires a specific vessel to be stored in, in the same way God/Guru requires the vessel. For example we store wheat in a big vessels and milk in a small vessel. If we have to interchange the food/eatable to another vessel/container, then first we have to empty the vessel, clean it up and then only it can be used.

तू ही ब्रह्म, तू ही विष्णु,
तू ही तू है विधाता,
सब की बिगडी बननेवाला
तू ही तू है जीवनदाता

Now to store God/Guru’s blessings or to get the benefits of the blessings, each one has small or big vessel. But no one has any vessel empty. This means that the vessels are full of one or other things. Due to our good deeds, we somehow get the blessings of God/Guru, but due to non availability of space in the vessel, we feel as if we have got nothing even after getting it. For example, if someone comes at our door to give us pure ghee free of cost, but if we don’t find any vessel empty or else if we are ready to empty any one vessel, then we have to return the pure ghee. So even if we receive Guru’s blessings, our vessel has not enough space because it contains many dirty things and we are not ready to empty it. So we have the said feeling of not getting the blessings or benefit. Let’s see which empty vessels we have. We have our ‘mind’ and ‘intelligence’. These two are the largest vessel to keep Guru’s blessings. So immediately clean them up so that they are suitable to store Guru’s blessings. But due to past birth deeds and lust they are fully filled up. It will take much time to clean and empty them. In order to clean a drum of coal tar it has to be heated many times and it takes much time. The meaning of this process is Saburi. So to get the blessings and grace of Guru make Shraddha and Saburi the foundation of your life.

While thinking of Shri Shirdi Sai, we must remember

While thinking of Shri Shirdi Sai, we must remember Shri Sai, as the Param Sadguru or the Supreme Perfect Master is God, is in God and will always remain as God. He had embodied Himself by the love aspect of God for the suffering lot and that His kindness is unfathomable. His job is to carry out the functions of God creation, sustenance and destruction, and to lead souls in their spiritual journey towards Divinity. After leaving the body He is there in His God State, as a Cosmic reality. He is looking after His devotees and children as much today as he used to when he was at Shirdi.

His devotees may go on taking birth life after life, but Shri Sai will be there always to help and guide them towards happiness and spiritual evolution. We must, therefore, make Him our mainstay of life and pray to Him with all our heart and soul.

Message of the week - Guruji Shri C. B. Satpathy
……“Human beings, a very few of them, in the path of spiritual evolution spread over hundreds of lives, reach the “Beyond State of God”. Having reached that state, a few of them, as a player in the Divine game come to the earth in human embodiment. Some such souls, known as Shivatmas remain in the God state or the Parambramha state, with all the attributes of God i.e. unlimited power, unlimited knowledge and unlimited love. It is this attribute of unlimited love or kindness that forces some of them to come down to earth in human form and ameliorate the misery of life-forms on earth. Such a soul is known as a ‘Sadguru’. When the Sadguru leaves His body, the same Divine “love aspect” operates through another body, ready for the purpose. Someone may ask as to where does the soul of Sadguru go after he leaves his body. The soul of Sadguru is eternal, all pervading and always in the state of Parabramha or Almighty. All Sadgurus are the same spirit and are within each other as much as they are within God or in a state of God. There are five Sadgurus guiding the affairs of the Universe at any point even today and at all points of time to come. For example, if an ant were to move on the body of one Sadguru, the sensation will be felt by the other Sadgurus. Their personalities may seem to be different but their egos are one - the ego of the Oversoul or God. Being in God state whatever they say becomes the command of God for that time as also for all times to come.

While thinking of Shri Shirdi Sai, in the context of His Mahasamadhi day, we must remember that-:

Shri Sai, as the Param Sadguru is God, is in God and will always remain as God.
He had embodied Himself by the love aspect of God for the suffering lot, and that His kindness is unfathomable.
His job is to carry out the functions of God - creation, sustenance and destruction, and to lead souls in their spiritual journey towards Divinity. After leaving the body He is there in his God state, as a cosmic reality.
He is looking after His devotees and children as much today as He used to when He was at Shirdi.
His devotees may go on taking birth life after life, but Shri Sai will be there always to help and guide them towards happiness and spiritual evolution.
We must, therefore, make Him our mainstay of life and pray to Him with all our heart and soul.”…….

Shraddha And Saburi, Faith And Patience

It perhaps depends on an individual's spiritual configuration as to which path suits his psyche best: faith or patience. Whichever route one may begin with, the two paths keep twinning and finally the two converge towards a common goal.

Does patience of the tree-type not kill enterprise? Surely not! Otherwise the tree would never grow and bring forth its wonderful flowers and fruits! Yet, yes: patience and faith, as they mature and begin to lodge in one's mind, kill such enterprise as is inspired by sheer greed for material gain, unrelated to honest need.

Greed is contra life and nature. Is there any religion anywhere in the world that has upheld greedy enterprise and glorified it? No tree competes with its neighbour to double its output just to outperform the other. The supreme enterprise in life is self-realisation. Patience and faith proactively support this enterprise.

The Guru is His Teachings
By the light of the sun, the whole world awakens. By the light of the sun, darkness is banished, slumber gives place to wakefulness and sloth gives place to activity. By the light of the sun, all beings in this world see things, perceive things clearly. In darkness, one stumbles and falls, loses one’s way and is ever in danger of injury. In the light one is able to proceed, move towards one’s goal; one is safe from danger. All progress, all activity is temporarily suspended in darkness.

Thus the sun is the awakener; the sun is the enlightener; the sun is the marga darsaka (one who shows the path). It is the sun that guarantees smooth, unhampered progress towards each one’s destination. When the sun is not there, one is, as it were, blind, even though having eyes.

In the life of a sincere seeking soul, in the life of a jijnasu, a mumukshu, a sadhaka, a spiritual aspirant, the Guru is, as it were, the sun. It is the Guru that awakens us from our slumber of ignorance. It is the Guru who, by his light, banishes the darkness of ignorance and wrong notions that the jivatma has about life, and brings in the light of right reasoning, right perception and right thought. It is the Guru that also makes us see the way, through his own lofty, sublime personal example, through his own dynamic philosophy, through his own teachings and personal instructions.

It is the Guru that points out the path and makes us see the path clearly. He points out the pitfalls and dangers upon the path, makes us alert, vigilant, jagrit. And, even as the sun initiates activity, so the Guru inspires us to arise, awake, seek knowledge, attain illumination and become forever blessed. All this and more the Guru does.

And the effulgence of the Guru, the radiance of the Guru, the light of the Guru, is his teachings, jnana-upadesa. It is his message, his sandesa, his instruction, his adesa. These constitute the real Guru and these constitute real guru kripa.

The Master - A True Friend

Once a Master takes upon Himself immense load of responsibility and He tells the disciple that he is neither body nor mind nor intellect, but something more glorious - soul or spirit, Jiva realises that he is no longer a slave of his senses engaged in sensual pursuits, but finds an inner satisfaction, peace and serenity which keeps him engrossed all the time at the seat of the very Self. All this is the work of the Master, and much more besides. To wash clean a jiva from the impurities of the world is no mean task, but it is absolutely necessary for a spiritual life.

He has to be pulled up from his senses, mind and intellect, and this no one but a Master can achieve. To stop the course of the mighty rush of sensory currents flowing headlong into the world, and to hold them at one center, is a gigantic task in itself. After the preliminary cleansing process, He pulls scales from the inner eye and gives it vision and Light; and He breaks the seal on the inner ear, making the jiva hear the inner music of the soul. By His individual attention and care He makes an adept out of trash and scrap - capable of understanding and enjoying the unspoken language and unwritten law of God, and of doing actions without the aid of outer organs and faculties.

He always saves His disciples, no matter how dangerous a situation they may be in. His protecting arms serve as a shield and buckler, and the disciple leads a charmed life, as it were. The Master does all this simply because He has taken charge of a jiva; there is no obligation on the disciple's part, nor does he necessarily know about it. Again, the Master takes upon himself the burden of his disciples' sins and iniquities.

Sadguru is the real friend of the disciple. He saves him from tense and hopeless situations. He comes to his aid when he has despaired of all hope and relief, and is surrounded by seemingly powerful forces arrayed against him, From time to time the disciple feels the overpowering influence of the Master working for his good. At times He works in ways that are difficult for the disciple to understand. just as a mother waits in the early morning hours for her sleeping child to awaken, in the same way, even more anxiously, the Master looks forward wistfully to the time when His disciple, steeped in deep ignorance born of matter and mind, will raise his head, look toward Him and gladden His heart.

The loving care of the Master becomes more manifest at the time of the disciple's final leave-taking from the world. The Luminous Form of the Master appears to take charge of the departing spirit and guide it to the new world, to the judgment seat of God.

After that, He takes it to whatever region He thinks best, for further discipline and advancement on the path.

Last but not least, the Master feeds the jiva with the Bread of Life and quenches his thirst with the Water of Life (Naam) until he grows into spiritual adolescence and is capable of a certain amount of self-reliance. The touch of the spark of Naam God-in-Action or the controlling power of God) burns out the storehouse of unfructified karma of ages upon ages, thus rendering them incapable of germinating in the future.

Baba Said....
Baba said, "I do not need any paraphernalia of worship either eight-fold or sixteen-fold. I rest there, where there is full devotion".
