  • Black Tila Tarpan – Shradh Tarpan Ritual using Black Til or Sesame Seeds

Black Tila, or Sesame seeds (Til or Ellu in South India), is an important puja item while performing Shradh and Tarpan – rituals and rites for dead ancestors, parents and relatives. According to Hindu scriptures, Tila or Black Sesame is one of the favorite items offered to the dead. Another popular belief is that there will be no obstruction to the Shraddh rituals if sesame is offered.

Also, according to the Hindu Shastra's if Black Til is given in Daan during Shradh and or every Amavasya, it gives a very smooth-n-easy cross over for our ancestors to cross the Vaitarni Bhavasagar and reach their Vaikuntha.

In Tila Tarpan, black sesame seeds are mixed with water and are offered to the ancestors. Each ancestor is offered separate Tila Tarpan.
In most regions, Tila Tarpan is performed after offering the annual Shradh. In some regions, if it is performed while performing annual Shradh or Pitru Paksha Shraddh then Tila Tarpan is performed the next day after Shradh rituals.

Til is also distributed on the day to the poor and is also sprinkled by some communities around their homes.
Only Black Til seeds are used for Tarpan rituals. White Til seeds are avoided.

    Mahalaya Paksha (fortnight)
It is a sacred period for offering oblation to the departed souls.
The last day of this period. the New Moon day is considered as the most important day in the year for performing obsequies and rites.

The renowned hero of the Mahabharata, Karna, when he left his mortal coil, ascended to the higher worlds and the great charity he had done here has returned to him hundredfold. But it was all gold and silver, but there was no food, as he had not done any food charity!

He prayed to the God of Death. So he was sent back to earth for 14 days, to make up this deficiency. For fourteen days he fed Brahmins and the poor, and offered ablations of water. On his return to the higher worlds, he had plenty to eat! It is these 14 days that are commemorated in the Mahalaya paksha. Due to the grace of Yama, it has been ordained that the offerings made during this period benefit all the departed souls, whether they are connected to you or not. This is the significance of Mahalaya fortnight.

Even in christianity, they have All souls Day. Amoungst hindus, the New Moon ( Amavasya) Day is considered as souls Day.

Pitr dosh is one of the biggest obstacle on the path to siddhi. Success is almost not possible if one has pitr dosh in ones life but anyway pitras are our own anscestors who have been thrown into pretha yoni or any other lokas and as a result of this they become extremely restless and sad and expect to get mukti from that state through the karma of their succesors they are considered to be more important to a person than any other devathaas(excluding sadguru) as they will be having blood relationship with their successors.they are considered equal to gods.as this body ours has come into existance bcos of our anscestors, pitr dosha nivarann is considered to be a very important duty of a person.

If the pitras are satisfied and happy with ur shradd(actions offered with shraddha) they can bring joy and clear ur path to success in all spheres
