  • SaiRam To All!:)

I have one query..please answer it..I want to know that why Sai baba Ate Non-vegetarian Food?

When we help others in pain n help the needy, baba adds it to our account in his 'Bank of Blessings'.If we add our good karmas this way,we are actually helping Sai to use it and at the time of need - Quote from Star Sai

Before Asking Sai That What He's Doing To Keep Us Happy,Ask Yourself That What You Are Doing To Keep Sai Happy?!

    Dear Saisevak,

Not sure Baba ate it. So far, havent read it.

But, when he would invite the whole village for a treat, he did prepare Non-veg for those who ate.
He would say, continue doing your worldly activities. and keep chanting my name and i will see you thru.
He never changed anyone's habit or tried to force his way of living.
Nobody knew his religion, and he never converted any one. He accepted every one as they were.

    My personal opinion----
To me really it doesnt matter. How can anyone be so sure that by being vegetarian, they will go to heaven??
Will that wash away all other sins committed. And if you go to see, this world is a cycle. Big eats small, in the ultimate race of survival.

In the end, BABA matters, rest all is insignificant.

    Till then...Keep Praying!!

It's written in Sai Satcharitra that baba sometimes ate fish with his devotees.

Hell or heaven ki baat nahi hai koi :o .. I asked coz baba loves animals too.. all are equal in his eye..

so why he ate non-veg :-/

  • Dear SaiSevak,

Before I come to your question, you choose really a beautiful Id. Bud do you know the real meaning of Sewak. (you write as Sevak).

When we work for someone there are two forms Employee or Sewak.

Employee takes interest what his owner is doing,  How and what is performance. He earned Bonus, He can go against the wish of owner if Union permits, He expects awards or rewards, and if He finds more benefits with any other employer, He can shift to that organization for more Pay Package or big position.

Now Second Position, Sewak, For a Sewak Wish of his Master is supreme order. He never gets into what his Master is doing, why etc. etc. He only obeys thy order and in that he feels the pleasures of life. He never demands anything in return. Because He knows he is the responsibility of his Master.

This was a lesson that I learned some times ago, what relation one should have with his supreme Master.

Your this question also reminded me one TV serial  some years ago. There were some monks who were fed up with their life, discussed Lord Buddha himself married and also have son, but ask us to follow a straight life, away from all pleasures. So, wish to return to normal worldly life.

Same with Baba, in his case since no question of marriage, So people start discussing such issues, If Baba was non-vegetarian, so what is wrong, if we eat. But, if they want to follow Baba, they why not complete, Can they take their bones out, Can they control their senses. Baba had complete control over all sense, so there was no taste associated with food.

This is not a new question, Veg ask to firm their believes, Non Veg ask for their. But, is it really so important.
Kiri has rightly explained, Hell or heaven is nothing to do with your food style, unless you kill animals just for taste.  I have seen many vegetarians who are in unfair practices in all the fields of life and innocent non- vegetarians, still it is better to be vegetarian to feel oneness of God with all world.

on the basis of what I have read:
    1. Baba himself used to prepare food many times, veg and non-veg both.
    2. He did first to unite both religions at same place.
    3. Food is a good attraction even today’s world for religious places.
    4. He performed so many miracles, but he wanted to change human nature gradually, it was not to happen overnight.
    5. He never forced any one to change from Veg to Non-Veg and vice-versa.
    6. To teach about detachment.
    7. To make one to be firm on his birth faith first.

(To know more you can use Google)

Sorry, if could not explain properly, But if you seek answer to decide your food habits, then take time, think rationally ……….. but if to know more about Baba, then make it from Macro Level (Nirakar Sarvvyapak Ishwar) to Mirco Level (God in mortal Body)

Just to help you, following is an article from Ashok Ji on Sathya sai form:

Misconceptions over the years have surrounded vegetarian diets and those who adopt them.
Let’s view the myths and see the actual reality.

Myth #1: All vegetarians are animal-rights activists.
Myth #2: Vegetarians just do not get enough protein.
Myth #3: Vegetarians just do not get enough calcium.
Myth #4: Vegetarian diets aren't balanced, so they are risking their health for their principles.
Myth #5: A vegetarian diet is all right for an adult, but kids need meat to develop properly.
Myth #6: Humans were designed to eat meat.

Reality #1 All vegetarians are animal-rights activists.
Research shows that most people adopt a vegetarian diet for the health benefits. The second most cited reason is animal rights. Even the people who mentioned animal rights say that health is the number one reason they follow a vegetarian diet.

Reality #2: Vegetarians just do not get enough protein.
Well there was a time when nutritionists and dietitians even said this,  but no longer. Now, we know that vegetarians get plenty of protein. What they don't get is the excessive amount of protein found in the typical modern diet. If you eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes, then getting enough protein is not an issue.

Reality #3: Vegetarians just do not get enough calcium.
This myth has been applied, in particular, to vegetarians- vegans who have eliminated meat and milk products from their diets. Somehow, the notion got started that the only good source of calcium is milk and cheese. Granted, milk does have a good supply of calcium, but so do many vegetables _ especially green, leafy veggies. The truth is, vegetarians suffer less from osteoporosis (a deficiency of calcium that leads to weak bones) because the body assimilates the calcium they eat more easily during digestion.

Reality #4: Vegetarian diets aren't balanced, so they are risking their health for their principles.
First of all, a vegetarian diet isn't out of balance. It has a good proportion of all the complex carbohydrates, protein, and fat the three macro nutrients that are the cornerstone of any diet. Plus, vegetarian food sources (plants) tend to be higher sources of most of micro nutrients. Another way to look at it is this: The average meat eater consumes one or fewer servings of vegetables a day and no servings of fruit. If a meat eater does eat a vegetable, chances are it's a fried potato. "Out of balance" depends on your perspective.

Reality #5: A vegetarian diet is all right for an adult, but kids need meat to develop properly.
This statement makes the assumption that protein from plants isn't as good as protein from meat. The truth is, protein is protein. It is all made from amino acids. Children need 10 essential amino acids to grow and develop properly. These amino acids are as readily available in plants as they are in meat.

Reality #6: Humans were designed to eat meat.
Although humans are capable of digesting meat, human anatomy clearly favors a diet of plant foods. Our digestive systems are similar to those of the other plant-eaters and totally unlike those of carnivores. The argument that humans are carnivores because we possess "canine" teeth ignores the fact that other plant-eaters have "canine" teeth, and that ONLY plant-eaters have molar teeth. Finally, if humans were designed to eat meat, we wouldn't suffer from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis from doing so.

If you find this useful, great, if not, Don’t worry, Baba always answer the genuine questions by whatsoever medium or …………… thyself.

    All the best!

Thanku so much for answering this query of mine.

I thought 'Sewak' means someone who follows what his/her master teaches and can also question! :-o

Baba is like my friend..He has taught me so many things from my experiences and Shri Sai Satcharitra..which I follow in my daily life..so, asked this..but I guess..now it really doesn't matters like Kirti said.. I don't know why I even asked it at first place inspite of knowing that he wouldn't do anything wrong :-s

My brain must have fallen on floor :-s

I never had this view-point that vegetarians do good karmas.. Infact,I know people who visit baba's temple every thursday..sing his songs and still do VERY VERY bad karmas.

It's just that I try to follow almost all his teachings so questioned this.. But baba has sealed my mouth now  :-X

Woh actually baba se dosto ki tarah hi baatein karti hu na toh kabhi kabhi bhool jaati hu ki woh kaun hai aur kabhi bhi galti se bhi galat ni kar sakte hai !

    Thnku to both of you!:)

May baba bless you both always!

When we help others in pain n help the needy, baba adds it to our account in his 'Bank of Blessings'.If we add our good karmas this way,we are actually helping Sai to use it and at the time of need - Quote from Star Sai

  • Dear  Aabhu,

Suppose If You work in any big organization. e.g. Tata on any executive level (even CFO/CEO/COO). What you will do. Will you do your job or keep on thinking what Mr. Ratan Tata eats, what he drinks, what vehicle he gets into, How he gets his deals done in corporate or political world. Even after research of many days you got answer, what you will do with those answers ………. further analysis if he eat non-veg bonus would be X%, if he is Veg, it would by Y%, If he wears white shirt then I will do work 8 hours, but if dhoti kurta then 10 hours etc. etc.

I am not challenging your intention, It is all between you and Baba but what i believe only on appropriate time these answers appeared, We can’t find, It comes only when we are ready.

If I say or you find from other source, He was non-veg, will you leave him, then where will you Go, In all big forms of God, they killed (or free the spirit) of evil, what would you say, we should not worship God, because they all killed. (Rama/Krishna/Shiva) …………..  These were Leelas of God at large level, Could Rama not killed Ravana at will, or alone Hanuman could destroy Lanka with killing all Asuras, then why all big Leela, only to guide us a  Path.

In Mahabharta, when Arjuna was filled with pride, Krishna took him to head of Great  Barbrik who witnessed full war explained, It was only Sudarshan Charka of Krishna, that was causing death of all warriors. All Maya of Lord!

also in whatsoever form We think about God, He appears depend on our spiritual level. People with worldly sensual pleasures think only about Ras-Leela, Saint people about Geeta, People with good spirit about Karam Yoga etc.

So, in brief, in Love and Devotion, never put conditions, we mortal people even can’t imagine 0.01% of Baba and his leelas, even after reading hundreds of granths. All belongs to him, when you will know about complete surrender to Lord, then you might get many answers.

But, Yes, If this is about any living Kalyuga Baba, It is always good to know about that, because now a days, spirituality has been a good business. Many Modern Baba are here with their luxury Ashrams and 5 star services. If you visit with only intention to gain knowledge, Ok, But if part of their world, think before it is too late.

Also Thanks baba for this lesson and please also forgive me, I too was interested to know more about you when I read about who you were before you appeared as Sai, Two different views, but as I say, In Love and devotion, It is only Love and complete faith on Lords. That’s all!

May Baba Bless You and All!

Sorry for my limited knowledge on this subject

    However, agree with Saib.
It's always nice to know as much as possible about some thing/one that means so much to us.
But one can never know all.
There is so much to know in this world where we live. Have we really known all about it.
Who has been able to tell us why we cant see the wind? or why cant we make blood? or how does food actually turn into blood?
we know that the earth revolves round the sun, but how and why, who can answer??

We are unable to find answers to why our beloved left us, then finding answers to these questions?!....hmm

There are so many questions to which we can never find answers. So better to leave them and enjoy this time here with
    Baba's worship

These is my opinion only.....best of luck to all he crack this one. Please do share it here  ;)

    Till then...Keep Praying!!!

  • Dear Kirti,

You are right as there is no end of Knowledge, and many times in quest of Learning We forget what was our first aim to learn, only that’s why Baba said, not to enter in useless philosophies, But It takes time to attain that much of maturity and wisdom. When one free himself from all believes then light of Lord enters and filled spirit with all knowledge. Complete knowledge comes with No knowledge.

    Dear Aabhu,

This question is not first time, even in DM it has been discussed in Past. Most of the time people concern because they want to ensure themselves that they are not doing anything wrong as per their religious believes, Many brahmin’s (and other communities where non-veg is not allowed) with doubt, is it right to worship Sai for this reason, Muslim brothers and sisters for the reason He followed many rituals of Hindus etc. etc.

Fact is Baba was above from all such issues. Leelas of God can neither be explained nor understood.  His religion was only Love. He did not set any religion/group and not declared his successor, as he is for his devotees forever living.

If you want to further Know about Baba’s Food habits, then Baba only can guide you in different ways, but if in general you want to study, then people make base of their research:

    1. Types of Parana
Living Moving – Human/Animals on Sea, water and earth
    Living Non Moving-Trees/Fruits/Vegetables
    2. Structure
    Elements used in Structure
    3. Level of Life
You can associate with level of pain in case of any injury Humans/Animals/Trees/Fruits Effect will be different.
    etc.

For more you can just know by searching on net. There are few good articles on sathya sai baba form, and if Go on any Good book store or any shop at Big Sai Temple, You will get many books covering this topic.

It is good to be vegetarian, But should not force anyone as with time and advancement of spiritual level people themselves find changes in themselves!

All the Best for your search !
