  • Faith – Can Move Mountains

    by Dorothy M Neddermeyer

Faith is the remarkable force that gives us the empowerment to accomplish the ordinary or the seemingly impossible. How many examples of the remarkable empowerment of faith in action do you know?  Mother Theresa, for instance, had faith that God would provide the food, money and the provisions she needed to continue her service to the poorest of the poor.  The chronology of her work is filled with miracle stories about how the things she needed showed up exactly when she needed them, often in the most surprising ways.

If you put your hand on hot coals, do you believe you would burn your hand? Of course you do, and it probably would. Yet if you were to attend a fire-walking ceremony and spend an evening with a group of people who were convinced that the fire wouldn't hurt, it probably wouldn't. Many ordinary people have attended such events and successfully walked over hot coals with little or no blistering. Tony Robbins includes this ceremony at his motivational seminars.

Group agreements such as these, where a group of people decides that reality is going to work differently as they envision it to be, are highly empowered. Faith is synergistic.  When we are with people highly empowered with faith and enthusiasm one begins to sense the power of their convictions coming into our thoughts.  Any one person with particularly powerful faith can spark the faith of many.

Dr. Willard Fuller, a well-known healer, is an excellent example of this. He is best known for his remarkable ability to spontaneously heal teeth through laying-on of hands - something that until you have
witnessed it first hand, it can be quite mind-boggling and doubt-evoking. Yet his faith that God can do anything is so great that he inspires hundreds of people at a time to suspend their beliefs about reality and have an experience they wouldn't have thought possible the day before. He has a remarkably high rate of spontaneous healings in every healing service he conducts. Some people who attend his seminars are even able to "catch" the ability to heal teeth themselves.

Each day and with each situation you can decide to make a new agreement about reality. You can agree that you will experience some form of quantum leap toward your highest good before the day is over. Simply define a quantum leap as an instantaneous manifestation of something your Higher Self wants for you--something that you could experience quickly, through synchronicity, coincidence and ease rather than through planning, waiting and working hard. Many people experience a leap within an hour or two after their decision to make a quantum leap. When I create a quantum leap, I can hardly wait to tell the story to my family and friends—I can hear them chuckling behind the scenes—we always know when she has had another success.

In case you are thinking it's all very well and good to talk about the power of faith, but it is something else altogether to actually have it.  What follows are some practical how-to's for growing your own faith more effectively. You may want to make a decision yourself to experience a quantum leap toward your highest good after reading this. You can decide to have the quantum leap experience within a short period or a few days, whichever reflects the possibility of your request.

First, understand what faith is. When we have faith, we have the experience of complete, total inner peace and contentment. We feel completely centered in the present because we know the future is going to be fine, no matter what. With faith we are not attached to a future outcome. With attachment there is fear and the feeling that we won't be OK unless things work out in a particular way. When we are in fear about the future we can't be very present in the moment and we certainly don't experience inner peace.

Faith is also not the same thing as wishing. Faith produces results. Wishing doesn't. Wishing keeps us focused on what we don't have. We feel lack rather than peace. Seek out people who have more faith
than you or at least support your faith. Find a friend, a group or a spiritual teacher whose faith will spark your own. Read books about Mother Theresa, Peace Pilgrim, or books by Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay or other stories of faith in action. Avoid talking about your faith to people who have less than you unless you have enough to share. Doubt can be catching, too.

Avoid worrying about dispelling all doubt. As Jesus pointed out, we only need faith the size of a mustard seed to move a mountain. Instead of working to get rid of your doubts, focus instead on paying attention
to your mustard seed of faith. Let your imagination help you with this. Imagine how it would feel if you did have total faith.  Imagine what it would feel like to be someone you know of whose faith is greater than yours. As you step out of yourself in this way and see through new eyes, you will experience a bigger faith. Even a moment of faith is a empower force.

Now the question is, what to have faith in? If you would like to join the experiment in calling forth a quantum leap in the coming week, think of something your heart has been calling for, maybe something
that seems a bit out of reach, even a little bit impossible. Be clear about what you want. Be specific. Put it in writing. Visualize it. Pray and ask God, Higher Power, the Universe for what you want. Know you deserve it and that God, Higher Power, or the Universe wants you to be happy. Then let it go.

Next comes the tricky part. Now you have to really let it go. It's important not to go back into doubt by wondering if it worked and when you'll see results. While there is creative power in being clear with God, your High Power or the Universe about what we want, there's even more power in placing our request and then having faith that God, Higher Power or the Universe will deliver it in the best possible way, even if it winds up looking very different than we expected. Imagine that your quantum leap has already occurred, you just don't know where in time it has been placed. It's like a birthday present that's in the mail. You know it's there, you know it's yours and you will receive it simply by going about your life with as much contentment and pleasure as possible.

Finally, faith means expecting success and declaring everything that you experience to be part of your success no matter what. Instead of looking for signs of your success, which is tinged with an attitude of
prove-it-to-me doubt, this week practice finding signs of success. It's a little like being on an Easter egg hunt. You know without any doubt those eggs are out there. Some may be so obvious you'll practically
step on them, while some you might have to peek behind bushes and rocks to uncover them.

One warning: be aware that taking a quantum leap is not a quick fix. While it is characterized by greater ease, fewer steps and less struggle, it isn't necessarily the most comfortable path. Quantum leaps involve a big step into the unfamiliar. They take us out of our comfort zone, requiring us to embrace change quickly. As physicist Fred Alan Wolf, author of Taking the Quantum Leap stated it, "Taking the quantum leap means taking a risk, going off into uncharted territory with no guide to follow. Such a venture is an uncertain affair at best. It also means risking something that no one else would dare risk." It's a risk well worth taking. See how soon you move mountains!

  • A small congregation in the foothills of the Great Smokies built a new sanctuary on a piece of land willed to them by a church member. Ten days before the new church was to open, the local building inspector informed the pastor that the parking lot was inadequate for the size of the building. Until the church doubled the size of the parking lot, they would not be able to use the new sanctuary.

Unfortunately, the church with its undersized lot had used every inch of their land except for the mountain against which it had been built. In order to build more parking spaces, they would have to move the mountain out of the back yard. Undaunted, the pastor announced the next Sunday morning that he would meet that evening with all members who had "mountain moving faith." They would hold a prayer session asking God to remove the mountain from the back yard and to somehow provide enough money to have it paved and painted before the scheduled opening dedication service the following week.

At the appointed time, 24 of the congregation's 300 members assembled for prayer. They prayed for nearly three hours. At ten o'clock the pastor said the final "Amen." "We'll open next Sunday as scheduled," he assured everyone. "God has never let us down before, and I believe He will be faithful this time too."

The next morning as he was working in his study there came a loud knock at his door. When he called "come in," a rough looking construction foreman appeared, removing his hard hat as he entered. "Excuse me, Reverend. I'm from Acme Construction Company over in the next county. We're building a huge new shopping mall over there and we need some fill dirt. Would you be willing to sell us a chunk of that mountain behind the church? We'll pay you for the dirt we remove and pave all the exposed area free of charge, if we can have it right away. We can't do anything else until we get the dirt in and allow it to settle properly."

The little church was dedicated the next Sunday as originally planned and there were far more members with "mountain moving faith" on opening Sunday than there had been the previous week!

Would you have shown up for that prayer meeting? Some people say faith comes from miracles but others know: MIRACLES COME FROM FAITH!

  • It was late Friday afternoon on the campus of Syracuse University. As I walked down the street, Bible in hand, a brisk November breeze whisked fallen leaves down the sidewalk -- the trees gently swayed against the partly cloudy, blue sky. By this hour most classes had dismissed for the day. The campus was nearly deserted as students were elsewhere preparing for their weekend. I felt it was time to call it a day, the conclusion of a fruitful week of ministry for my wife and I.

For nearly a year we had been involved with campus evangelism, traveling across the U.S. to dozens of colleges to conduct street witnessing and evangelistic meetings. Married less than two years, these were adventurous times of faith for us. We had forfeited stable jobs and an apartment to answer God’s calling. Now we made our home in a humble 8 X 14 foot travel trailer and relied solely on the Lord for our financial needs, which He always met -- sometimes through the invitation to conduct a local church service, or perhaps from an unsolicited donation sent from friends or family. In Syracuse, however, this pattern changed. For some reason, God’s provision had not come and our had finances dwindled to almost nothing.

That evening as we arrived back at our trailer parked in an empty lot, I tried to keep my panic to myself, but Jerri could see the worry on my face. Up to this point God had been so faithful to provide. But there were only three dollars left in my wallet, one can of soup in the cupboard, and we were more than a thousand miles away from family and friends. I felt like my back was against the wall -- I had no idea what we would do.

After our meager supper, I sat near the window, quietly leafing through my Bible in the dim light. Tears streamed from my eyes. I began to wonder whether we were really called by God into this ministry. I felt discouraged, like giving up -- but then I experienced a profound thought. Give up for what else? What alternative do I have? Who else but God do I have to turn to?

Just then my eyes fell upon a scripture passage -- one that I had often preached from. "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16). My heart melted as I was reminded of God’s faithfulness to hear the earnest, impassioned prayers of His children. I realized it wasn’t time to be discouraged or to give up. When all else fails, it’s just time to pray... effectually and fervently. We had nowhere else to turn but to God, and had no other choice but to pray until His help would somehow come. And surely God would see us through this crisis. After all, the scripture says that David never saw the righteous forsaken or begging bread (Psa. 37:25), and the Apostle Paul wrote that God promised to meet all our needs (Phil 4:19).

Encouraged, yet still burdened, that evening Jerri and I knelt at opposite ends of the little trailer to seek God with all our heart. We didn’t know what would lie ahead tomorrow, but we needed God’s help desperately, and were determined to pray with the tenacity of Jacob, who wrestled persistently with the Angel until he received his blessing (Gen. 32:24-28). Into the late hours of the night we prayed, until sleep finally overtook us.

The next thing I remember is being awaken by an abrupt pounding at the trailer door. Groggily, I rubbed my eyes. From the window I could see the brilliant, orange sunrise behind the city skyline. A fresh, white blanket of snow now covered the ground. Again the knocking came.

I made my way to the door with some apprehension -- we knew no one there, nor had any idea who this could be. "Who is it," I said meekly. The mystery voice replied, "I’ve got something for you." Cautiously, I opened the door and there stood a short man with a funny sort of grin on his face and two brown grocery bags in his arms. To my surprise, he quickly shoved the bags in the doorway, then turned and pranced off through the snow without saying a word.

By this time Jerri had joined me. Neither of us were sufficiently awake to fully assess what was going on. Still stunned, we sat down and began to look through the bags. To our amazement there was bread, meat, canned goods and soups -- not just any variety, but several cans of my favorite soup. Ironically, these all were the same items and brands we normally purchased. There was also a can of shaving cream -- the same brand that I always buy. Who knew that I had just used my last ounce of shave cream the previous day? No razor blades were in the bag. Who could know that I had an over-abundant supply of blades? And finally in the bottom of one sack, there was an envelope of cash -- which I discovered later to be the precise amount to fill our gas tank, that took us to our next destination.

On that wintry, Saturday morning in Syracuse, this young preacher and his wife wept in the doorway of our trailer, giving thanks to God for hearing and answering our prayer. No one in Syracuse, nor on this planet, knew anything about our need -- except our Lord God almighty. And it was He who dispatched the little, grinning man -- perhaps an angel -- to minister to us in our hour of need.

For more than two decades, this experience has inspired our hearts and served as a precedent for many years of faith. We have come to trust the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus to answer the earnest prayers and meet the needs of His followers. Indeed, when all else fails you, don’t ever be discouraged or give up. It’s time to pray... effectually and fervently

  • Faith refuses to panic.

Faith keeps going, even without answers.

Faith doesn't need to demand answers from God.

Faith can grieve and hurt while it remembers that God is holy and sovereign.

Faith lets God include unhappy circumstances.

Every life will have its deep valleys.
In those valleys, faith continues to trust in God that he will bring good from those valleys.

Faith looks at God, not the storm.

We can live without answers to our questions, but not without knowing we belong to God.

  • In much of modern religious talk, the word "faith" is commonly accepted and has been overused to the point where it seems to have lost much of its former meaning. "Faith" is a word and a concept which has tremendous meaning, loaded with lots of "power" when you understand the full intent of the authors who used the word in scripture.

Faith is defined in Webster's Third New International Dictionary as: (1) the act or state of wholeheartedly and steadfastly believing in the existence, power, and benevolence of a supreme being, of having confidence in his providential care, and of being loyal to his will as revealed or believed in.

That's a long first definition but, as we know, the dictionary lists the oldest and most primary of a word's definitions first. Let's go on to see how the definition of the English word "faith" changed over the centuries. The second definition is: firm or unquestioning belief in something for which there is no proof. The third definition is: an assurance, promise, or pledge of fidelity, loyalty, or performance. The fourth definition is: authority, credit, or credibility. The fifth definition is: something that is believed or adhered to especially with strong conviction. Finally, the sixth definition is: "the faith" is spoken of as the true religion from the point of view of the speaker.

So, we can see a steady weakening and secularization of the English word "faith" over the centuries.

  • The below mail was sent to me by Sai bhakt Manu Gidwani...See the attached picture and read the below mail to see one more miracle of Sai and have his blessed darshan
     Om Sai Ram Deepa ji,
On Thursday the 13th May 2010 at 6.30 pm while returning from SAI GANESH MANDIR after the Aarti I just dropped in a travelling agent office for the zerox copies of my flat at Yari road,Versova, Andheri - W, Mumbai. The owner of the shop is a muslim and was watching a photo and was totally lost watching the photo. When he saw me he handed over the picture and narrated me the story as to how he got this picture. He very softly said that one Sai Bhakt came from Shirdi who wanted a ticket for Kerela for the same day gave the pictue to him. The Sai bhakt told the owner of the shop that when he clicked the picture of Gurusthan, that time there was nobody there and when he developed the picture he saw SAI near Gurusthan. Since the ticket was not available the Sai Bhakt went away. The Shop owner a muslim scanned the picture and mailed to me and kept the original. This muslim owner proved to be a true Sai Devotee.
ALLAH MALIK..SAB KA MALIK EK...SHRADHA SABURI.
I am attaching this picture with this mail for you to have darshan and blessings of Sai.
