Sai Baba would get up early in the morning and go sit in front of his sacred fireplace (Dhuni) facing south. He would remain there for quite some time, absorbed in contemplation. Now and then people would hear him murmuring sacred formulas. After a few hours,he would wash his hands, feet and face.Sai Baba, like most fakirs, was not known to have a daily bath.Often, somebody would massage his legs. This was a service hightly sought by the devotees,a sign of their closeness and intimacy with the master.Baba would reward a disciple's devotion by letting him massage his limbs.Sometimes,he would call a barber to shave his head and trim his beard, paying for the service with a few metallic coins.

Around eight o'clock Baba left the Masjid and went begging for his food from door to door, visiting no more than four or five houses. As an old villager of Shirdi, shri Uddhao Madhavrao Deshpande stated:'Baba used to go out for his round of begging around 8 A.M...He would go to certain houses...When doing this,Baba cried,'Mae Bhakrian ,which means 'Mother, give me some food.'

In one hand Sai Baba kept a tin pot and in the other a jholi,a rectangular piece of cloth,Liquid or semiliquid eatables as soups, vegetables, milk,or curds he received in his tin pot, whereas boiled rice, bread and other solid foodstuffs he kept inside his Jholi.

When he got back to the masjid,he would offer a roti and some boiled rice to the fire of the Dhuni, and the rest of the food he would put in an earthen pot ,kept just outside of the masjid.Cats and dogs, crows, beggars and untouchables, all could partake of it freely. Then,Sai would mix together the leftover food and eat a few handfuls.

Around 8:30am,Baba sat and met with visitors for an hour or so.During this time,Sai's behavior was,as usual, unpredictable. He often remained silent or simply whispered some words in God's Praise.Sometimes,he had a very serious and grim expression;other times he manifested a joyful and loquacious mood.If the latter was the case,he would talk with whomever was present on the most varied subjects.During these conversations,Sai Baba would often give proof of his antarajnana, his knowledge of past and future events, and showered his blessings on people.

Around 9:30am or 10am,Sai Baba used to walk down to the Lendi stream and the gardens surrounding it.Here he roamed in solitude or sat behind the enclosed 'Nanda Dipa'(the perpetually burning lamp) for about an hour.He would then return from the Lendi to the masjid.Between 11 am and noon,Baba would hold a second sitting and meet with visitors.

Around noon,Sai Baba again left the Masjid for begging his meal.As usual,he would stop at four or five houses of the village, calling out loud.Sometimes,he would also leave the masjid earlier and make two or more rounds of begging. When he came back,he distributed a part of the food among all the devotees present.Often, seated on the floor for his meal,he would take a fruit, for example,a mango, taste it,and distribute it to the people as a token of communion and intimacy.

After finishing his meal, between one and 2pm,Baba would remain alone for a while. He often sat on the large flat stone in the masjid, keeping his typical posture.Apparently,he never took a nap.

Around  2pm,he would leave the masjid and go take a walk in the Lendi area, where he remained alone for some time, often sitting in some isolated spot.

At 3pm,he  came back to the masjid, and around 5pm devotees again assembled to see him and speak to him.

Around 6:30pm,Baba went out again.Sometimes,he went back to the gardens, but usually he would go out for his evening round of begging. Then he would shout his beloved formula 'Allah Malik or call Amma or cry out sentences in unknown languages.

After these walk,Sai Baba returned to the DawarkaMai.He might leave the Masjid many other times but usually returned to it before or soon after sunset. Then Baba faces the sacred fire of the Dhuni for hours, absorbed in contemplation.

In the evening,he would often listen to the recitation of devotional music, performed by either Hindu or Muslim adepts.Baba himself would sometimes sing along with the others, breaking into ecstatic dances which could go on for several hours.

For years he used to sleep on the ground or on rags. From an early period,Baba developed the habit of sleeping one night at the Masjid and the other night at the Chavadi.

There are not pearls in every sea; there is not gold in every mine.
