I was reading The life and teaching of Sai Baba of Shirdi last nite n came across with this leela, thought I would share with all the devotees.
It was some time in 1910.Suddenly one morning Sai Baba burst out:"What is the scoundrel coming to see me for? What have I got?I am just a fakir with human organs, like anyone else".
It was one of those outbursts when no one knew what he was referring to.A little later, however,a couple of official carriages drew up with their escort outside the Mosque. They wife of the district Revenue Commissioner(An English lady),had long hoped for a child and now thought she would try the wonder-working fakir, whom all the Indians were talking about,She was accompanied by her husband....They looked round uneasily..The Assisant Commissioner, who had accompanied them, bade a devotee to ask Sai Baba to finish his morning routine quickly as the guest wished to speak to him.
The devotee was aghast...He declared outright that it was impossible. If they had any business with Sai Baba they would have to wait his pleasure.
It was half an hour before Baba was free and came that way.The lady stepped up to him and ,bowing, said politely:"We wish to have a little talk with you,Maharaj."
However, such politeness was not enough for Sai Baba.It was not the heartfelt devotion he required. He said roughly:"You must wait half an hour;I have to go and beg."
...It was not half an hour but only ten minues later when Baba returned.Again, the lady bowed and repeated her request."Wait an hour longer,"Baba replied.
The officers of government had not the time.Nor were they disposed to be made fools of in this way by a mere fakir. They got into their carriages and rode away, and the lady remained childless'.
The foreigners' pride and lack of patience is here foreseen, tested ,and punished. As Baba always says, one should have always have faith and patience.
