Thanks to the commercialisation of our festivals.

The good olden festivals and auspicioius days have again been remembered from a different angle for which they were set up  / formed.

Akshaya Tritiya is one such festivals which was forgotten (except in Tamil Nadu, to my knowledge) for long and during the fast few years, it is being celebrated with a different colour applications. Anyway, thanks to the business community for reviving this festival.

All our festivals have a basic objective in them - feeding the poor and helping the poor for achieving a feeling of humanity / brotherhood among all. But, gradually, they are being restricted to a narrow family celebrations. Even in the available means, if one has a heart, charity can be made by every body.

In One story, I have read that one beggar stands infront of a house and asks for alms. When the house wife refuses, the begger reminds her that he is not only requesting for alms but also teaching a lesson to her what had brouhgt him to that state - having refused alms to the deserving.

Thus, let us all too learn what has made us today this deserving and what should be our duty to atleast retain it in future.

AKSHAYA TRITIYA - An Auspicious Day

Akshaya Tritiya, the third day of the bright half of Vaishakh, is considered one of the four most sacred days of the year.

The word Akshaya means that which never diminishes - hence beginnings made or valuables bought on this day are considered certain to bring luck and success. All over India people celebrate weddings, plan new business ventures, long journeys and other events on this day. Like Diwali, Dussera and Gudi Padva. Akshava Tritiya is reserved for buying gold, silver and other assets. On this day jewellers keep their shops open well into twilight time to entertain their buyers.

Akshaya Tritiya or Akha TeeJ is traditionally the birthday of Parshurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu. The Puranas tell how he reclaimed land from the sea along the west coast of India by his valour. Even today Goa and the Konkan are called Parshurama Kshetra. He then settled 96 selected families there, called Shahanavkuli Brahmins, who are said to have created the cultural heritage of this nart of India. In India gold is regarded as the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity. Buying gold and jewellery is a popular activity on Akshaya Tritiya, one of the most auspicious days of the year.

The danam done on this day gives undiminishing Phalam (fruit). On this auspicious day, it is desired to feed the poor, donate clothes, donate umbrellas, donate foot wear...anything of your might...

It is said in shastras to donate gold (suvarna danam) placed on a red pumpkin along with Thamboolam (beetle leaves, nuts and fruits)  and Dakshina to a poor brahmin and seek his blessings to get in return the Akshaya phalam of the Dana.

WHY ONLY ON THIS DAY: There is a reason for this clearly mentioned along with scientific logic too. But, let us keep aside the reasoning and logic. Every day is good  for making any donation. Atleast on this auspicios day, let us too take part in some act of charity.

Daan on Akshaya Tritiya

* Some special Daanas are suggested on Akshaya Tritiya.    They are:
* Jala Daanam (giving water) is for wealth.
* Shayana Daanam (giving bed) gives all happiness
* Vasthra Daanam (giving clothes) gives long life
* Kumkum daanam (giving vermillion) gives best position in    life and also long life for husband
* Chandana daanam (giving sandalwood) prevents accidents
* Thamboolam- It makes a man as ruler of a nation
* Naarikela Daanam (giving coconut) gives salvation to    forefathers.
* Butter milk daanam (giving curdmilk) gives ability to study      high.
* Udakumbha Daanam ( giving water in silver vessel with safron, Tulasi with betul nut) gives    desired results for those who wants to get marry or those who wants to have a child.
* Padaraksha (giving slippers) will prevent us from going to hell after death.
* Chatra Daanam (giving umbrella) will remove many obstacles in life

Things to do on Akshaya Tritiya
 
   
  On that day, we have to perform Madhusudhana puja, with Tulasi archan chanting Sri Vishnu Sahasranaamam. And also some special Daanas are suggested on that day, here it is:

1) Jala Daanam (Water daanam to brahmin with betul nut and dakshina) it is for wealth.

2) Shayana Daanam (giving bed) it gives all happiness

3) Vasthra Daanam (giving clothes) Ayushyam, Long life

4) Kunkum daanam _ it gives best position in life and also long life for husband

5) Chandana daanam- it avoids from accidents

6) Thamboolam- It makes a man as ruler of a nation

7) Naarikela Daanam- (Coconut daanam)Our last 7 pithrus will get relief from naraka

Butter milk daanam- its for vidhya praapthi

9) Udakumbha Daanam- Giving water containing in borzz or silver vessel filling water with paccha karpooram and safron and Tulasi with betul nut and dalshina.it gives Gaya Shrardha phalam, its the most important daanam to be given for those who wants to get marry, who wants to getout of pithru shapas, and peoples who wants to have a child.

10) Padaraksha- (slipper) this daanam will avoid us from entering into naraka

11) Chatra Daanam-(umbrella) it removes many obstacles in life

Most of all this we have to take bath in Mahanadis, that is ganga,yamuna, godhavari, sindhu,sarawathi,narmada,krishna, bheemarathi, phalgu, sarayoo, Gandaki, gomathi, kauveri, before sunrise it gives immense phala.

And also one more daanam is suggested to give on that day thats wheat, its for the satisfaction of Indra , Indra is a reason for getting rain and growing many eatables on earth, thats why veda mantra says :

Indra Shrshtaani Draveenani dehi shittim Dhakshasya Subhagathva masmey

Posham Rayeenaam arishtim thanoonam swadhmaanam vachah sudhinathva manham

So choose any daanam, or if possible give all the daanams and wash our bad karmas, and do sadhana here in our Sadhana Bhoomi Bharatha.
