I live in Arizona and some of our very close friends here have started a non profit organization in India called as ASSET. The basic objective of the organization is to provide computer education for children of sex workers and enable them to get good jobs, so that they can come out of the circle they are involved in and make a decent living for themselves.
Based on ASSET India Foundation's performance and growth, Parade Magazine and Case Foundation have asked ASSET to participate as a partner in a fundraising challenge.The top prize is $50,000 for ASSET if we get the *most number of people * to donate a minimum of *Ten dollars*. The contest ends on January 30, 2008 and we are trainiling the leader by 160 donors. Hence I am turning to you for help.
*ASSET India Foundation's mission is to provide children of women in prostitution and those rescued from trafficking in India with basic information technology skills * and secure employment opportunities. By harnessing the technical aptitude of this neglected and under served population, we hope to fulfill the needs of local and *global markets using knowledge empowerment as a method of preventing these children from entering the flesh trade. *
The idea for this kind of organization was conceived by Nita Umashankar, who is currently a PhD student at University of Texas, Austin. They plan to open more centers in places with high level of trafficking in India.
