The total duration of the eclipse appears to be 1 hour 14 minutes seen in America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

I have heard elders saying that the  efficacy of any Japam done during the Grahana period gets enhanced infinitely. In fact, some Sishtas used to go to the river and standing in deep waters used to perform Japam.

Shastra says that for Surya grahanam, we  have to take bath at the starting of the grahanam and for  Chandra grahanam we have to bath at the start of leaving. For both, after the grahanam is complete, we have to bath one more  time.

Nice to see this post. Today I ws told that people under my star have to do some special pooja as it is not good. I chided my wife saying once we believe sai we need not worry about astrology and signs. Now your post on the eclipse and the trsiyengar link says to chant a sloka for the malefic affects. Now what should I derive from this ?
Also what time does the eclipse occur

We must continue to follow whatever we are used to as per the family traditions. I feel we should continue to follow the traditions. Even in SSC Baba has confirmed this to the devotees.

Grahan means Eclipse. Tomorrow Eclispse of Moon is taking place. I have given some information on that only. Usually, people take head bath and then only start the daily routine on a eclipse day. Japam means chanting a mantra etc. We can do Sai naam Japa during that time if possible.

Thank you very much for explaining that to me.  My Hindi is not that good and this is new to me.

However what about if a woman is on her menses is she allowed to do Japam? Please forgive my ignorance.

You are a real blessing in disguise ...i was thinking on this subject yesterday and today saw ur post ....could u please tell me the nakshatras that get effected in todays grahanam ....because some says mine is some say otherwise my nakshatram is Punarpusam  and suresh's is sadayam please tell me if both get effected coz we need to do the head bath before and after the grahanam and eating restrictions are imposed after 6.00 pm  ......

I was born on holi and my nakshatra is Uttara Phalguni. So as per hindu calendar my birth day is tomorrow (4th March) and as per english cal. it is 7th.
Now I asked Kavita akka about the shanti pooja. I was a bit disturbed because I did not want to follow these sentiments or beliefs what ever. But Akka advised to follow some traditions.
Today i went to Sai Mandir at Mylapore. I wanted to buy a ticket for Annadan for today. Then the clerk there said to take it for tomorrow since it is not possible for today. That really pleased me and surprised me. Sai has decided the course for me. Tomorrow i will be at sai mandir doing a special archana and pooja and annadan all on my birth sign day. Dont you all think Sai is always with us ! Protecting us, confirming our faith in him and ever protecting ! BABA I JUST LOVE YOU.
I am really happy. Baba please be with all of us .
