Title: Om sairam... Doubt - sat-charitra 18th chapter
Post by: dwarakamai on April 07, 2009, 08:38:46 PM
Om sairam..

while reading 18th chapter, I got a doubt.

when Kakasaheb Dixit enquires BABA, whether sathe has to do another saptaha or he has to stop,
BABA replies,
If he does another saptaha carefully he will be benefited..
hemadpanth who was witnessing the conversation, gets distrubed and starts thinking...
"What! Mr. Sathe read for a week only and got a reward; and I am reading it for forty years with no result! His seven days' stay here becomes fruitful while my seven years' stay (1910 to m1917) goes for nothing.

as soon as this thought arises in his mind, BABA asks him to go to shyama.. there they discuss about what BABA addressed to
Mrs. Radhabai Deshmukh

Hemad panth doubt was "one will be rewarded in 7 days but he was with no result since 40 years"..

I didn't get how does Radhabai Deshmukh story  became an answer to hemadpanth's doubt..

can some please clarify?

Om sairam.

Dear Dwarakamai ji,

Om Sai Ram ...

Through the Radhabai Deshmukh story, Sai Baba reveals his blessed teachings of Shraddha (Nishtha) and Saburi ... i.e Faith and Patience.

What Sai Baba wanted Hemadpant to learn was exactly this - to have complete Shraddha i.e faith in the guru and most importantly to have Saburi i.e Patience.

Since Hemadpant's doubt was that Mr. Sathe received a reward from Baba by reading only for 7 days, where as he has not received any result even after so many years of service,  Sai Baba understood Hemadpant's doubt and wanted him to learn that Patience is one of the greatest virtues that is required, specially so if you desire to follow the spiritual path.

And in order to make Hemadpant learn the importance of Patience, Sai Baba devised this scheme of asking Hemadpant to go to Shama's house and have a chat with him ... and Shama in turn chooses to tell the story of Radhabai Deshmukh .... The main moral of this story turns out to be Shraddha and Saburi .... and thats when Hemadpant understands why Sai Baba has sent him to Shama's house ...

Please note that this doubt arose in Hemadpant's mind ... and Sai Baba, being the Omniscient - all knowing God, could read Hemadpant's thoughts and hence he asked Hemadpant to go to Shama's house.

When Hemadpant heard the story of Radhabai Deshmukh, he understood the virtue of Patience when you want to receive blessings from your Guru ....
You cannot compare that other disciples were blessed within 7 days ... so why have I not been blessed even after so many years .. Such a thought means you do not have complete Shraddha i.e Faith in your guru ...

So first you must maintain the most supreme Faith in Sai Baba .... and then have Patience for your prayers to be answered and your wishes to be fulfilled ... Also Patience is very important to lead a happy and cheerful life amidst all the problems we face.

As its written in the Chapter 18, " This Saburi will ferry you across the sea of this mundane existence. Saburi is manliness in man, it removes all sins and afflictions, gets rid of calamities in various ways, and casts aside all fear, and ultimately gives you success. Saburi is the mine of virtues, consort of good thought. Nishtha (Faith) and Saburi (Patience) are like twin sisters, loving each other very intimately.

This is a very important lesson for all of us too ... we all face so many problems in our lives ... we all pray to Sai Baba to solve them .. but many times  when we see no solutions to our problems in sight, our Faith begins to weaken and we begin to question whether Sai really cares for us ....  We begin to think that Sai cares for other people but not for us (just like how Hemdapant thought that Sai Baba gave blessings to Mr.Sathe, but not to him...)

So thats why this chapter is very important for all of us too ... to maintain our Supreme Faith in Sai Baba always ... and wait with Patience to realize Baba's blessings upon us and for our prayers to be answered ... Because Baba always takes care of his true devotees....

Om Sri Sainathaya Namaha
Om Sri Sainathaya Namaha
Om Sri Sainathaya Namaha

Saibhaktji Sairam
Most beautifully interpreted and answered. Sradha & Saburi multiplied by 2 are the four pillars. That is the only thing one should always pray and ask our Lord Sai to bless us with. They are moola mantra for all spiritual achievements.
Baba bless us all with Sradha & Saburi.

Sairam

Sathe was entering from Worldly life to Spiritual life. Sai baba said "The Lord will be pleased with him & rescue him from mundane existence (worldly life)" This is where his 7 day reading materialises.

Whereas Hemadpant had already entered into spiritual life. Once enetered, it takes many years to become ripe & get self realisation. In this period, one simple has to keep patience, looking at the Sadguru.

Thus Sathe & Hemadpant were at different levels in the ladder of evolution & hence the comparison of 7 days was not applicable to Hemadpant. For him, patience was advised
