OM SAI RAM !!!

The 11 sayings of Shri Shirdi Sai Baba are in the nature of promise given
to his devotees to enlighten and navigate in life even in the absence of
His physical body. The Perfect Master or the Sadguru has parental functions /
duties towards His devotees / children. Shri Shirdi Sai Baba has done the same.

During His lifetime Shri Shirdi Sai Baba’s name and fame had spread in all
the directions. It was because Shri Sai had all-pervading watchful protective
eyes over his devotees. He was exactly aware about the physical and mental
well being of his devotees.

Shri Shirdi Sai Baba was the Perfect Master with the highest level of
consciousness. In order to ensure his motherly affection, guidance and
correct direction in life. He enunciated 11 sayings to instill confidence in
the mind of devotees, even after leaving His physical body.

For the sake of psycho-spiritual analysis, His 11 sayings have been
grouped thematically.

1. Importance of soil of Shirdi

Shirdi being Karamabhoomi of Sai Baba, which witnessed His spiritual
charm for several decades, was converted into a place of divine standing.
The Perfect Master, due to close associations with a specific place, have
converted it into a supremely divine territory and pilgrimage centre. It
becomes much more than any geographical place. It attains purity,
divinity and gets its own consciousness. Shirdi’ got the divine status,
similarly. The soil, water, air, plants and entire surrounding got divine aura,
since at some point of time all the elements of nature were acting in the
close harmony with Shri Sai Baba. With this background in mind Shri Sai said,
“Whosoever puts his feet on Shirdi soil, his sufferings would come to an end.”
This is a Great Promise indeed, by the Perfect Master to take care of the future
children. Anyone with Shraddha and Saburi can feel the results of this
Great Promise even now.

2. Importance of mosque / Dwarakamai at Shirdi:

In a mosque at Shirdi, Shri Sai spent most of His time. He named it as
Dwarakamai masjid. The very nomenclature shows that Shri Sai wanted
social cohesion between two faiths {Hindus and Muslims}. The period of
Shri Sai had socio-religious disharmony which started due to prosylytizing
efforts by the existing Nizam Sahi rulers. Shri Sai attempted to bring social
harmony by emphasising the oneness of Supreme God on Sufi Tradition.
The Dwarakamai masjid where Baba used to bless visitors and devotees
has a special place in Shirdi. Baba said “The wretched and miserable would
rise into plenty of joy and happiness, as soon as they climb the steps of my
mosque. Even now steps of mosque are the beginning of the end of problems
for the visitors and devotees.

3. Ever-activity:

Shirdi Sai is Omni-scient, Omnipresent and Omni-potent. This is supreme
all-pervading existence with profound consciousness. Shri Sai wanted to
assure and reassure his devotees about his continuing Kripa even after
His physical absence. Thus He promised, “I shall be ever active and vigorous
even after leaving this earthly body”. This profound statement generates
tremendous amount of confidence in the minds of devotees, especially
when one is downcast or depressed. The confidence which one gets is
very positive one. It provides impetus for positive action based on
positive thoughts.

4. Live force through tomb:

In Shirdi at Butiwada, Samadhi of Baba still speaks, walks, feels, listens
about the problems and sufferings of all the devotees. No one is disappointed.
Every prayer is heard. Everyone comes back with the answer and solution of
his problems. Normally a tomb loses its charm and divine powers over a period
of time. However this is not correct in the case of Baba’s Samadhi. It is
ever-alive to all the needs and crisis moments of all the devotees. Thus
Baba says:

a) “My tomb shall bless and Speak to the needs of my devotees.

b) “I shall be active and vigorous even from the tomb.”

c) “My mortal remains would speak from the tomb.”

All above positive assertions and affirmations are promises
which are always fulfilled in case of worthy souls and devotees.
The only condition - precedent is that favour-seekers must be
deserving devotees with positive thoughts and actions.

5. Ego-surrendering:

Baba said that “I am ever living, to help and guide all who
come to me, who surrender to me and who seek refuge in me.
Shri Sai recognised that ego is the greatest obstruction which comes
in the way of spiritual upliftment. In order to help devotees to overcome
this problem, he explained that devotee should surrender his ego and is
expected to be humble. Once a devotee approaches Baba with humility
the ego is removed / annihilated, then making it possible to receive Baba’s
benedictions and blessings. Ego-surrendering and being humble is not a
sign of weakness. Rather it is a sign of strength of character and commitment.
It is a difficult and slow process of learning/relearning. However, with Baba’s
grace it becomes very easy to come by. Similarly, Baba also promised that
“If any burden is cast on Him, He shall surely bear it.” This is indeed great.
No one except parents can give such promise. He is not only promising but
he means it. He is there to fulfill it.

6. Reciprocity:

The moment Baba promised that “If you look to me. I look to you”,
He meant reciprocal relationships. No relationship exists if it is one-sided.
By this promise, Baba only says that if a devotee advances by one step
Baba reciprocates by ten steps. A devotee is required to show some amount
of positive thought and action to get the positive rewards from Baba. Baba also
says that “If you seek my advice and help, it shall be given to you at once.”

7. Finally:

and much-sought-after promise is that “There shall be no want in the
house of my devotee. Most of devotees want material objects from Baba.
Baba does not decry them altogether. He fulfils them to the extent, they are
required and reasonable. However, He does not favour unbridled materialism
which comes in the way of spiritual upliftment. No promise to make you
a Nawab or Maharaja overnight. Dishes of the devotees will never be empty.
Thus the eleven promises made by Shri Sai are the great confidence-builder
in the mind and life of devotees. Now burden is on devotees to start with
positive thought and action to obtain blessings from Shri Sainath and
enrich their lives.
