- RAILWAYS VERSUS MSRTC BUSES -Monday 30th Aug`2010With the Inauguration of the Second Train to Shirdi from Mumbai and the Laying of the Foundation Stone for Shirdi's Airport,
the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is seeing it as an Competition
from Rail & Air connectivity on the Mumbai-Shirdi route, so it is also upgrading its Bus services to attract more passengers.
State Transport Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said that there was a huge demand for Buses to Shirdi,
so MSRTC plans to restart the AC Volvo service connecting Mumbai and Shirdi.
"We will go for Public-Partnership projects to make our Bus Stands at Shirdi Hi-tech
and add more facilities for passenger comfort,'' he stated.
He said that there were plans to introduce GPS systems in all semi-Luxury and Luxury buses.
"We also want to change the interiors of our buses to make them more passenger-friendly and aesthetic.
We are hiring consultants to advise us on the interiors, upholstery and lighting,'' he stated.
The minister said that he wanted every passenger on a religious tour to travel comfortably in the semi-luxury buses.
MSRTC is also planning to venture into Religious Tourism and is requesting the Government to reduce Taxes on these tickets,
making it cheaper than private buses. Once the project is finalized, tickets for the Religious Tours can be booked Online.
Also, from Sunday, 29th August`2010 the State Transport (S.T) has put 5 of its fast Buses on a Daily Mumbai-Shirdi Route.This is apart from the 16 Buses which it runs daily to Shirdi from Dadar`Mumbai.
Out of these Five Buses Started by ST, Two will run from Borivali-Thane-Nasik-Shirdi,
while the remaining Three Buses will ply Dadar-Thane-Nasik-Shirdi.

Their Departure Timings are in tune with the Timings of the New Mumbai-Shirdi Direct Super Fast Train,
so that devotees need not have much trouble deciding which Mode of Transport to choose.
It has also requested the Shirdi Temple administration to make special arrangements for devotees who travel by their Bus to Shirdi.
MSRTC managing director Deepak Kapoor said the buses will be a faster option than the railways and will reach Shirdi in the morning.
