Mumbai: The Tata Group's hospitality brand, Gateway Hotel, will set up a 125-room hotel in Shirdi, Maharashtra, with a view to leverage the State Government's plan to develop the town as an international pilgrimage centre with modern facilities.

The company has signed a management contract to set up the hotel on a 16-acre prime location in the town.

"This new hotel will be a 125-room property with state-of-the-art banqueting, conferencing and meeting facilities," The Gateway Hotels Chief Operating Officer P K Mohankumar said in a press release. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will take up projects to develop roadways measuring nearly 25 kilometres around the shrine, the release said.

"Given the administration's proposed plan to develop the town and expected ensuing demand for infrastructure, we feel that The Gateway Shirdi will be able to offer a modern and convenient option to all visiting devotees and tourists," Mohankumar added.

Gateways Hotels has partnered Orbital Realty for the Shirdi project, its 32nd property so far.

The hotel will be situated 3.5 kilometres from the main shrine,
1.5 kilometres from the Shirdi railway station and 5 kilometres from the proposed airport.

The Gateway Hotels checks into one of India’s most revered cities, Shirdi. The Gateway Hotels has signed a management contract to set up a 125 room hotel on a 16-acre prime location in the town. The groundbreaking ceremony for the property was held today in the presence of the Gateway Hotels Chief Operating Officer, Mr. P K Mohankumar, Mr. Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge, Mr. Kaka Koyate, Chairman of Surya Developers and Mr. Kishore Navandar, Managing Director of Orbital Realty. With the addition of this property, the total portfolio of Gateway Hotels increases to 32 from 26 when it was launched a year ago.

Shirdi, with its Sai Baba Shrine is a respected religious destination visited by millions every month. The state government has recently unveiled a plan to develop Shirdi as an international pilgrimage destination with modern infrastructure facilities. The MSRDC has also signed a MoU to develop roadways measuring nearly 25 kms around the shrine. Considering all the development that is in the pipeline for Shirdi, it makes it the most opportune time for Gateway Hotels to sign up this new property.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. P K Mohankumar, Chief Operating Officer, The Gateway Hotels, said, “We are delighted to announce that our 32nd Gateway Hotel will be at Shirdi in partnership with Orbital Realty. This new hotel will be a 125-room property with state-of-the-art banqueting, conferencing and meeting facilities .Given the administration’s proposed plan to develop the town and the shrine and expected ensuing demand for infrastructure, we feel that The Gateway Shirdi will be able to offer a modern and convenient option to all visiting devotees and tourists.”

Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kishore Navandar of Orbital Realty, said, “We are very happy to partner with The Gateway Hotel for this project. Together, we hope to be able to bring a best in class hotel to this town.”

Commenting on the latest addition, Mr. Ajoy K Misra, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Indian Hotels Company Ltd. said, “We launched the Gateway brand in September 2008 with a portfolio of 26 hotels. Inspite of the challenging times, Gateway Hotels has managed to increase the properties to 32 with this new sign-up. This achievement is certainly commendable. It is also a reflection of the fact that our guests have supported this new offering from the company. Considering the development in pipeline for the town of Shirdi, we feel that The Gateway Shirdi will be able to garner considerable market share and popularity in the town”

Strategically accessible to all major hubs, the new hotel will be situated 3.5 kms from the main shrine, 1.5 kms from the
Shirdi railway station and 5 kms from the proposed airport. The vicinity around the hotel site is also set to witness significant development in the near future. A 35-acre Information and Education Academy proposed by the Shirdi Sansthan, along with a meditation centre and MSRDC’s proposal to develop road-connectivity to Shanishingnapur that will pass along the proposed hotel site, make it an appropriate site for the hotel to be developed.
