DOUBTS OVER THE SOURCE OF
SUDAMA'S STORY IN SHRI SAI SATCHARITRA

Recently a question has been raised by Brahmasri Chaganti Koteswara Rao Garu,
eminent speaker on Old Scriptures & Puranas regarding the mention of
Sudama's Story in Chapter 24 of Shri Sai Satcharita.
He questioned the authenticity of the story saying that nowhere in Shrimad Bhagavatam
written by Veda Vyasa the stoty was mentioned.
He further added that such fictitious story should not be included in Parayana Books
& regular reading of such Parayana books is nothing short of a great sin and
he even ridiculed Anna Saheb Dabholkar. He challenged Sai Devotees to show him the source of Sudama Story.
 
The said speaker has large number of following & what he says branded as authentic.
Though it was not mentioned in the Satcharita that the story was lifted from Shrimad Bhagavatam by Ved Vyas,
Sai Devotees are deeply hurt all over the state of Andhra Pradesh but in absence of authentic information
about the source of Sudama Story in Shri Sai Satcharita the speaker could not say more.
 
In the circumstances, it would be helpful to Sai Devotees in Andhra Pradesh
if the source of Sudama Story is ascertained.

The above query was mailed to me by one Sai devotee from Andhra Pradesh
asking for help. All I could reply was -

I doubt if anyone knows the source of this story or as a matter of fact of any story.
Here are the Video links in Telugu for this whole controversial statement issue.
Cannot say much as do not understand Telugu.

But yes this Sudama story was shown in 2 hindi TV Serials based on 'Krishna' made by well know producers and directors.
And I guess these big directors must have done their homework and research properly before making this serial.

The first was Ramanand Sagar's 'Sri Krishna'
and the second was Moti Sagar productions 'Jai Shri Krishna'.
They were based on Mahabharata, Harivamsa Purana, Bhagavata Purana and the Vishnu Purana.
It was later dubbed in Tamil.
