- SAI BABA TEMPLE/MUSEUM IN A AEROPLANE SCRAP - 25th Mar 2012 A Delhi based scrap dealer Mr.Rakesh Dixit bought a junk Airbus A320 scrap for Rs.18 lakh from Air India
which reached its destination, the Sai Baba Temple on Alipur Main Road in Delhi on 25th Mar`2012,
after being held up at Narela for a day causing huge traffic snarls as
hundreds of onlookers obstructed the path of the truck trailer carrying the Aeroplane scrap.
An elated priest of the Sai Baba temple in Alipur said that a deity of Sai Baba would be installed inside the fuselage
and portraits would also be kept inside the plane and prayers would take place in it.
Mr.Rakesh Dixit had got the temple built several years ago through a Trust
and decided to buy the Airbus scrap from Air India 2 months back to create, what he calls, a Sai temple cum museum.
The 18-wheel Airbus A320 is 125 feet long and 114 feet wide and weighs 26 tonnes.
The wings alone measure 100 feet.
The seats and other fittings were removed before the auction.
The Airbus was grounded after serving Air India for over 20 years, its tail and wings had been sawed off
and seats and baggage space had been removed.
Dixit said that it would take at least 6 months to make the Aeroplane Sai Museum, at an additional cost of Rs.10-15 lakh.
He said that this would be a first of its kind museum and temple in India and as he
was a follower of Sai Baba, there couldn't have been a better gift to Baba's followers,
who will come from across the country to see the Aeroplane temple and museum !
