- 1 CRORE THEFT @ SAI BABA TEMPLE IN DEHRADUN -
27th Aug`2012On 21st Aug`2012, a gang of thieves looted the Sai Baba Temple on Rajpur Road`Dehradun
and fled with jewellery worth 1 crore which included Baba's:
1 Silver Canopy,
2 Silver lions placed next to Baba's throne,
1 Gold necklace around Baba's neck and
Cash from Donation Boxes.
The temple pujaris were shocked when they entered the temple in the morning and saw that Baba
had been unseated from his throne. The back door was unlocked and the window glass had been removed
to open the lock from inside. The Police started their investigations with forensic samples taken from the temple.
The CCTV cameras were switched off every evening when the Temple closes after the aarti, a routine that has shocked everyone.
An old guard was the only form of security for the temple, which has cash and jewelry worth crores.
An unidentified man was caught inside the premises of the temple on the 12th Aug`2012.
After initial investigation the temple authorities let him go and did not inform the police of the incident.
In all probability he was an accomplice in the crime & had come to see the security arrangements in the temple at night.
An unfinished and unplastered staircase was found leading to the drains behind the temple.
It is believed that the thieves used the staircase on their way in and out.
No one knows who got the staircase constructed.
But finally the Police arrested two members of an interstate gang from New Delhi and recovered most of the stolen goods from them.
A total of 4 bags containing around 50 kgs of Silver articles & 1 Gold chain stolen from the Sai temple were recovered from them.
They were trying to dispose off their loot, when the police who were keeping a close eye on their movement caught them.
They were brought to Dehradun & the 2 Silver lions were recovered from an open plot behind the temple where they had been buried.
As the thieves did not have a big bag to carry the lions, they had been buried so they could be recovered later.
After the recovery police were showered with awards and gifts.
The Sai temple trust also declared an award of Rs.1 lakh for the cops who cracked the case within a week.

- THIEF SEEKS BABA'S BLESSINGS @ SHIRDI BEFORE & AFTER THEFT -
04th Feb`2013People visiting Shirdi to pay obeisance to Sai Baba for fulfilling their wishes is common
but a Thief’s faith in Sai has left the Ahmedabad`Gujarat police surprised.
The 21-year-old thief would seek the Almighty’s blessings @ Shirdi before embarking on a stealing spree.
After executing the task successfully, he would again visit Shirdi to thank Him and sell off the stolen booty.
But he ran out of his luck when he was caught lifting a laptop bag in Shahibaug area.
Initially, he tried to rescue himself by showing his inability to comprehend the cops’ language.
But when the police did not let him go, he promptly started speaking Hindi.
His questioning brought out certain strange practices of the group.
They would first visit Shirdi to pay their obeisance.
Thereafter, they would come to Ahmedabad and randomly visit areas to lift bag. Laptop bags were their first choice.
As the gang was aware that hotel stay would require ID proofs, they used to leave the city the same day.
The gang would immediately take Shirdi-bound bus after thefts, leaving no trace behind to trail them.
Posing as tourists, the group would sell stolen laptops for Rs 10,000- Rs 12,000 in Shirdi.
If people questioned them, they would win their trust by citing some financial emergency.
