- WHEN SHIRDI'S SWEET LADDU TURNED BITTER - On 25th August`2012, after several complaints since around 2 months by devotees
that the prasad Laddu's made at the at the Sai Baba Temple were smelling foul and tasted bitter,
the Shirdi Sai Sansthan Trust got into action. They tasted the Laddu's and did find them bitter in taste.

The workers who made these Laddu's were the first ones complaining to the Shirdi Trust that while cooking,
their eyes used to burn due to the fumes of the burning Ghee, which smelled very strange.
They said that this never used to happen before. Following such complaints, the Shirdi Sansthan hinted at
action against the Gwalior-based Ghee manufacturer and the Nashik based Supplier, if the Ghee was found spurious.
The Ahmednagar district Food & Drug Administration officials were called in, who disposed of a stock
of 6,796 kg Laddu's worth Rs 8.15 lakh in a deep pit dug behind the Sai Baba Prasadalaya especially for this.
The FDA later sealed the remaining 1,331 tins of Ghee & sent samples to Government & Private laboratories for analysis.
On a average 3000 Kgs of Ghee is used to make a days supply of 7000 Kgs of Laddu, averaging to about Rs.25 Crores a year.
The Nashik based government laboratory reported that "no adulteration was found" in the Ghee.
While the analysis by a Private Laboratory found that it was adulterated with some acidic substances
and in all 12 per cent trans fat was found in the ghee used in making Laddu's.
An FIR was also filed on 02nd September`2012 in a local police station by Social Activist Sanjay Bhavsar
against the manufacturer of Ghee, Assistant Commissioner of FDA and More in connection with the incident.
To be noted that the Sansthan had changed the supplier of 'Ghee' (clarified butter) recently and given the contract
to Madhya Pradesh-based Maharatan brand of ghee made by Chambal Products.
And now the Sai Temple authorities have awarded the contract for the supply of Ghee back again to the earlier supplier -
Sonai Dairy of Indapur in Pune, which also supplies ghee to Balaji temple at Tirupati and Britinnia Industries.
In December 2012, the Gwalior Ghee trader was finally arrested under National Security Act (NSA) & was sent to jail
after his warehouses were raided by the State Food Department and 10,500 litres of Ghee was confiscated
which, after Laboratory tests proved to be adulterated.

1) When there are so many good Ghee Manufacturers present in Maharashtra itself,
then why was the contract for the Ghee given to a manufacturer in Madhya-Pradesh.
2) When good quality Ghee is normally priced at Rs.350-400/- per Kg,
then why did the Shirdi Trust buy Ghee sold at a price of only Rs.220/- per Kg.
3) When devotees were complaining regarding the rotten Laddu's since last 2 months,
why did not the Shirdi Sansthan take note of it then.
