A very interesting Sai Baba mandir in Bangalore

  • Hello everyone,

Today morning i had a chance to visit a very interesting Sai Baba mandir in Bangalore – it has a black colour idol of Sai Baba in the classic sitting pose, where as nearly every other temple has a white colour idol of Sai Baba.

Moreover, this temple has been established by Sri Shivamma Tayee, a great devotee of Sai Baba.
    She lived for 105 years …from 31/05/1889 till 11/07/1994 ….

She spent quite some time with Sai Baba at Shirdi … and maintains that Sai Baba used to converse with her in Tamil, her native tongue.
Her Samadhi is in the same temple in a room just below the idol of Sai Baba.

Infact this entire premises has 3 temples… apart from the one mentioned above, there are two other smaller temples – one has Sai Baba in the sitting pose being protected by a 5 hooded Serpent on top … and the other has Sai Baba in a standing pose with the bowl in his hand with which he used to go and beg for food/alms etc.

Infact, from outside this doesn’t even appear as a temple … you will probably mistake it for another building …

I got to know of this temple at this website - http://templesofshirdisaibaba.blogspot.com/search/label/SHirdi%20Sai%20Baba%20Temples%20in%20Banglore

There is also a very interesting write up about Shivamma Tayee at this link.

How to Reach this Sai Baba mandir:

The directions to reach this place – On the Hosur Road - when going from Madiawala/Koramangala -  After the Silk board flyover please take the first Right turn. This right turn is into a small lane. This road takes a sharp left and then a sharp right.  Just some distance down this road, the Temple is located on the left hand side, just before a T intersection on the same road. The Temple has no visible signage outside, hence might be a bit difficult to find.  At the entrance to the temple premises, is a small revolving gate.

But I guess after reaching here, you can ask anyone about this temple and they will guide you.

As mentioned earlier, from the outside this may not look like a temple at all and hence you might miss it.

While this temple is open throughout on Thursdays, on other weekdays it is open until 9.30 am in the morning and then after 5.30 pm in the evening ...

The address of the Sai Baba Temple:
