Please do not worry. However I will differ with the advice given by other members.I am not a scholar and please forgive me if anything offends you or the other members.I am just trying to share whatever little I am aware of...
Traditional Agama sastras which deal with temple construction , puja done at homes and archana vigrahas state clearly
1.Broken Idol should not be kept in the home.Idols tend to accumulate energy from the mantra vibrations performed.
2.Hence just as we do Nimmajanam for Ganesha Vigrahas or Devi Vigrahas after Nine days the Idol should be immersed in water so that the energy merges with the energy of water and returns to the cosmos.
3.Just as a broken mirror cannot reflect the image and will distort the image, a broken idol will not cause good things to happen.
As far as the omen of the Idol breaking , Please do not worry ....Everything in the Universe belongs to Baba. Even Inanimate things are a form of his , the earth in the Idol was fortunate to serve him in the form of the idol for so long...its work was done so the energy will return back.
Think about it , a stone could be fortunate to be moulded into a idol...someother stone might be fated to lie on the road.
Baba is very kind to his children.Just immerse the broken Idol in a nearby pond and please purchase a newer idol and consecrate it in your puja room.

why did my idol broke. Your idol in my pooja room broke into pieces. Why baba? what did i do?
