Vizag-Shirdi Trains: New Coaches replaced with Old !

08th Jan`2014: The Railway Board proposes, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) disposes.
This seems to be the maxim as far as allotment of coaches to trains originating from Visakhapatnam is concerned.

According to an RTI activist from Chennai, the East Coast Railway is ignoring the Railway Board directions !
He has enough reason to believe in this as some of the New coaches allotted by a circular (dated June 7, 2012)
to the Visakhapatnam-Sai Nagar Shirdi Weekly Express train, which was flagged off on 15th Dec`2012,
have been already replaced with Old coaches. In less than a year, around 60 % of the new coaches of the Train
have been taken away by the ECoR & replaced with Old ones, by the time the Train was introduced as a ‘Regular’ Train.

He said that the authorities cannot claim that the New Coaches have gone for POH (Period Overhaul) because
POH is normally done only after a 2yr run, except in cases where the coaches are damaged due to any reason.

The RTI activist, being conversant with the functioning of the Railways,
checked the coach numbers and was aghast on seeing decades’ old coaches used for the new train.
He noted down the numbers of all the coaches to highlight the injustice being done by the ECoR.
He found that except the S 9 coach, manufactured in 2013, all the other coaches were old.
He said that the spare coaches allotted in the circular were also taken away,
giving little scope to augment coaches to popular trains during the peak season.

Demanding a high-level inquiry by the Railway Board in this regard and initiation of appropriate action,
he questions that why should the zonal authorities change the configuration of the New Coaches,
when they were allotted by the Railway Board to trains originating in Visakhapatnam ?






23rd Jan`2014: Following complaints by the public, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) administration
has immediately withdrawn the old coaches, which were used in violation of the Railway Board orders,
on the Visakhapatnam – Sai Nagar Shirdi Express and replaced them back with new coaches.
