  • Health is wealth. Without a healthy body, man cannot execute any of his thoughts, however noble they may be. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind.

Have your meals on time and relish what you eat. Also, while eating, be filled with positive thoughts - that will bestow upon you good health.

In the first instance, give up all bad habits; you will automatically gain good health, which will confer a strong body.

You can then lead an ideal and meritorious life full of happiness and bliss.

  • What is the inner significance of worshipping the elephant-faced deity Ganesha? The elephant is a symbol of might and magnitude. The elephant's foot is larger than that of any other animal. The elephant can make its way through the densest jungle. In this way, it signifies the quality of a leader who shows the way for others. The elephant is also known for its faithfulness and gratitude. These are the lessons man should learn from the elephant. Intelligence without gratitude is valueless. Every man should be grateful to those who have helped him

  • At one time we are joyous and at another time we are sorrowful. The same object which is a source of happiness turns out to be a source of agony with the passage of time. Therefore, joy and grief are only states of mind and the objects which are themselves subject to change cannot give us lasting happiness. Whatever is transient cannot be real. Knowing that the life of enjoyment is naturally inimical to serious spiritual effort, good people consider difficulties as stepping stones to a higher life.

  • Whatever talents a person may possess, they must be dedicated to the service of humanity, indeed of all living beings. Therein lies life's fulfillment. All men are kin, moulded out of the same five elements, with the same divine essence residing in everyone. Service to your fellowmen will help your divinity to blossom, for service to man is service to God. God resides in the heart of every man and every living being, in every stone and stump. Let every act be a flower to be offered at the feet of God, free from the creeping worms of envy and egoism and full of the fragrance of love and sacrifice.

  • Man has the unique capacity to realise and appreciate the beauty of creation and express feelings of love, compassion and sympathy towards his fellow-beings. He can delve not only into the secrets of nature, but also into his own mystery, and discover the divinity within himself. However, engrossed in the material world, he has lost all sense of spirituality and sublimity. Truth has become just a word in the dictionary; virtues like humility, patience and reverence too seem to have lost their relevance. The only thing that man can hold on to in this dreary darkness is the name of God. That is the raft which will take him across the stormy sea of the world.

  • Worship God in any form or with any name. In fact, God has thousands of names and a myriad forms. Ek Prabhu Ke Anek Naam (the one Lord has many names). While worshipping the Lord with a thousand names, you should be fully aware that it is the same Divinity you are addressing. Rama, Krishna, Allah, Jesus, etc., all are names denoting the same Divinity. Unity alone is the reality. Ekam Sath Viprah Bahudha Vadanthi (Truth is one, but the wise ones refer to it by many names). Hold this faith firmly in your heart and make your life worthwhile and remain ever in bliss.

  • It is our ancient observation, but it is true even today, that man spends his childhood in pranks and play, his boyhood in sports and games, his youth in pleasure and pastimes, his middle age in plans and schemes to pile up fortune and his old age in hospitals and nursing homes, trying to bolster up falling health by means of falling wealth.

He has no time for anything else, his hands are too full. He has no peace, no spare time for sitting quiet in one place.

  • What is the proper offering to God? Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita says - Patram, Pushpam, Phalam, Toyam (leaf, flower, fruit and water). What do these signify? Your body is the leaf; your heart is the flower; your mind is the fruit and the tears of bliss is the water to be offered to God. Instead of attaching undue importance to this ephemeral body, emphasise on the Atma tatwa (Atmic principle). The body is to be surrendered unto God by undertaking acts of worship and other sacred deeds.

  • Keep this thought in your mind, "I am not a mere man, I am the embodiment of Divinity." Have this conviction fixed in your mind and you will realise this truth. As it is said, Brahmavid Brahmaiva Bhavathi (the knower of Brahman becomes verily Brahman). If you perceive yourself as Divine, you become Divine. If you consider yourself a human being, you will remain so. While your form is that of a human being, there is the Atmic principle in you. To recognise this Atman, you have to keep your heart pure and empty of negativity. The main aim of these festivities is purification of the mind.

  • Where the six qualities of zeal, determination, courage, intelligence, ability and heroism are present, there divinity becomes manifest. Success and prosperity comes to the one with these six virtues. However, these qualities are put to test from time to time. Just as a student has to face various tests, these qualities are also subject to trials. Such trials should be regarded as stepping stones to higher achievements. These trials are in the form of losses, troubles, pains, sufferings and calumny. One has to overcome these troubles with courage and self-confidence and forge ahead. Without self-confidence, these six qualities cannot be acquired.

  • Many feel that it is human to err and that Bhagavan should forgive their lapses.

In fact, if they were truly human, they should not commit mistakes at all. Even if sometimes a mistake is committed, willingly or unwillingly, it should not be repeated again. It is a grievous error to think that it is natural for a human being to err. Such feelings should not be entertained by anyone.

You should realise that you are not weak, and you are not an animal. Nor are you a demon; you are a human being. When you have such convictions, you will not commit any mistakes.

To follow the directives of the senses is the mark of an animal. To be guided by the Atma is the sign of a human being. None should attempt to justify his or her weaknesses and lapses as natural to a human being. They should be regarded as signs of mental debility. When you have truly acquired sense-control, you will experience the power of the Divine in you. - BABA

  • Jnana (knowledge) does not mean mere acquaintance with books. Nor is it worldly knowledge. Only the person who has recognised that the individual is not distinct from the universal is a real Jnani (man of wisdom). True wisdom consists in awareness of the unity of the individual and the Samashti (collective whole). How can a man who is not aware of his humanness recognise the Divinity within himself? Hence the first requisite is the recognition by everyone of his human essence.

  • Birth as a human being is a rare and unique opportunity.
For, man is endowed with a discriminating intelligence, the power to reason out the best among alternative courses of action. The tongue that does not chant the name of God, the hand that knows no charity, the years of life that know no peace of mind, talents that do not find fulfillment, a life that has not garnered wisdom, a temple where there is no atmosphere of reverence, speech that does not communicate knowledge - all these are of no value.

  • It is not necessary to go in search of temples and shrines for worship. Your very body is a temple. Deho Devalaya Proktho Jeevo Deva Sanathanaha (body is the temple and the indweller is the eternal God). God is not confined to any particular place of worship. Find Him in your heart. All of you are embodiments of divinity.
