  • Saturate every breath of yours with love. Love knows no fear. Fear drags man into falsehood, injustice and evil. Love does not crave for praise. Only those who have no Love in them itch for reward and reputation. Love is its own reward. When you are eager to place offerings before the Lord, let it be love instead of mere material objects. Love is no merchandise; do not bargain about its cost. Let it flow clear from the heart, as a stream of Truth, a river of wisdom. Let it not emanate from the head, nor from the tongue. Let it emerge, full and free, from the heart.

  • Why does man wail when he arrives into the world, whimper throughout his life and groan out, into the beyond, lamenting that his sojourn here was a waste of years? Man does so, because he is unaware of his glory, of his high destiny! He is the Divine poured into the human mould. It is the privilege of man alone, to be able to become aware of this precious truth! This is the message of the Upanishads to man, echoed in scriptures, and in the declarations of countless saints. Yet, man turns a deaf ear to it, perhaps, due to his own misfortune created by his own misdeeds in past lives. What an inexhaustible source of bliss lies within you! You only have to develop the mind that will respond to the call, that will recognise the Truth.

  • 61.    Q;Baba, who are you? whence?
SB: (in the absolute mood): I am the attributeless, Absolute, Nirguna. I have na name, no residence.
(Again in the mood of Duality)I got embroiled by Karma, and came to a body. (So) I got a name and abode. Dehi, i.e., the embodied, is my name; and the world is my abode, brahman is my father and Maya, my mother. As they interlocked, I got this body. The world is evanescent, mutable.
    62.    I am Parvardigar (God). I live at Shirdi and everywhere.
My age is lakhs of years.
My business is to give blessings.
    All things are mine.
    I give everything to everyone.
    63.    I am in Gangapur, Pandharpur and in all places. I am in every bit of the globe.
    64.    All the universe is in me.
    65.    Stick to the one whom you worship or rever. God will protect you soon.
65-A.    (To Shankar Rao Gowhanker) ; Baba: ‘”They had many giving them trouble. As they were with me, they did not suffer by that trouble. God punished the troublers. See, god rewards the doers of good and punishes evil-doers.

  • Caught in the coils of the 'created,' man is blind to the fact that he is part of the Divine Creator. Identifying himself with the physical sheath in which he is encased, he is blind to the unity of all beings in the One Universal Absolute. Man has written and studied countless texts on spiritual discipline and discovery, and confounded the confusion, indulging in dialectical rivalries and argumentation. But, he who has put at least a page or two of these tomes into practise, is rendered silent and innocent of any desire for fame or victory. He is happy in the depths of his being. He ploughs the field of his heart, sows the seeds of love and reaps the harvest of fortitude and equanimity.

  • Man's life is like a garland, with birth at one end and death at the other. Between the two ends are strung together flowers of all kinds - joys and sorrows, pleasures and pains. Few are aware of the string that runs through all the flowers. Without the string, there can be no garland. Only the person who recognises this truth can truly be called a man. The Divine Atmic principle is the string which is found in all human beings and which is the source of all potencies in them.

  • To reach the stage of a Jnani (Knower of the Supreme), the preliminary steps are Karma and Upasana (righteous action and worship). Without following the paths of Karma and Upasana and succeeding in them, one can not become a Jnani, just as a student cannot acquire a degree without passing out of school. Before one becomes an adult, one has to pass through the stages of childhood and youth. It is idle for any one to claim that he is a Jnani, unless he has gone through the prior disciplines. The mark of a Jnani is perennial joy. It is for realizing the oneness of divinity, that the three stages of action, worship and knowledge have been laid down in the Vedas.

  • The entire world is filled with love. The world is Love and Love is the world. In every human being, love is present as an effulgence which shines in his heart. Love is life and life is love. Love is an inborn quality in man. It is his very life-breath. Even as the power to burn is natural for fire, and the power to cool is natural for water, love is a natural trait for man. Without it, he ceases to be human.

  • All experiences of pleasure and pain have their origin in the thoughts of man. A thought is like the seed of a tree, which in due course puts forth branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. All that you see in a tree has come from a small seed. Likewise, although man's thought is subtle, it contains potentially the entire universe. The atom is the microcosm of the Universe. One may have noticed the huge size of the banyan tree; however its seed is very small. Intrinsically, the seed and the tree are essentially one.

  • Buddhi (intellect) revels in discussion and disputation. Once you yield to the temptation of dialectics, it takes a long time for you to escape from its shackles and enjoy the bliss which comes from its nullification. You must always be aware of the limitation of reason. Logic and deduction must yield their place to devotion. Buddhi can help you along only some distance along the Godward path; the rest is illuminated by intuition.

  • When a man's inner self is filled with love, his life becomes full of bliss and he is always hale and hearty. Today, man suffers from numerous ailments the root cause of which is a diseased mind. There is no death for the mind, though when the body is facing death the mind thinks it is dying. The mind, it has been said, is the cause of one's bondage or liberation. Bad thoughts beget bondage. Good thoughts lead to liberation. Hence, everyone should develop good thoughts and perform good deeds. Such good feelings can arise only out of love.

  • Man is the storehouse of every mineral, metal and energy that the earth contains. He has in him electric, magnetic and several other forms of energy. Sadly, man does not realise this. There is the enormous strength of Divinity latent in him that enables him to do anything that he sets his mind on. Man's many achievements are mere glimpses of the great potential that is latent in him. All he needs is to have the will and the determination to realise this strength and potential.

  • The body and mind are very closely interlinked and are vital to man's evolution. A complete man is one who has both a pure mind and a healthy body. The body must certainly be fostered and protected, but no attachment must be developed towards it. The Atma within the body is more fundamental. While the body is bound to perish sometime, the Atma within is eternal. A healthy body and a pure mind in turn combine to give 'Lavanya' - true beauty. True beauty is that of the character and not of the body. It is this Lavanya that gives one an eternal youthful countenance and bliss.

  • One of main rite's done as per the Karma kanda (a part of the Vedas dealing with action) is yajna (sacrifice). The Veda Purusha (Vedic God-head) is the spring out of which Ananda wells. The meaning and significance, of every single hymn and rite of the Vedas is yajna.

If bhrama (delusion) dies, you become Brahman (the Supreme Spirit), or rather, you know that you are Brahman. All this literature, all this effort, all this yajna, all this teaching is just to hold a mirror before you, so that you may see the Divine Yourself.

Yajna is the destiny of every living being. Every being, from the tiniest amoeba to the most profound scholar, is perpetually engaged in yajna. The mother sacrifices for the child, the father for the progeny, the friend for the friend, the individual for the group, the present for the sake of the future, the rich for the poor, the weak for the strong - it is all yajna, sacrifice, offering. When life becomes yajnamaya (sacrifice-filled), egoism will disappear and pictorially the river will merge in the sea.

Human is born from Brahman, grows through Brahman and merges in Brahman. Brahman pictorially means freedom from bhrama (delusion).

  • Health is wealth. Without a healthy body, man cannot execute any of his thoughts, however noble they may be. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Have your meals on time and relish what you eat. Also, while eating, be filled with positive thoughts - that will bestow upon you good health. In the first instance, give up all bad habits; you will automatically gain good health, which will confer a strong body. You can then lead an ideal and meritorious life full of happiness and bliss.

  • Sound is the first attribute of God. The hymns of the Vedas constitute Naadha Brahman (God in the form of sound), which is highly potent. Even if you cannot chant the Vedas, mere listening to the recitation of the Vedas is itself capable of purifying your mind and elevating you to a higher level. Though the child does not know the meaning of the lullaby sung by its mother, it is induced to sleep hearing the tune. Similarly, listening to the chanting of the Vedas with undivided attention will confer upon you immense benefit. If you ruminate over it and practise its teachings in your life, you can imagine the magnitude of the bliss you will attain.
