In trying to make this time of year as festive as possible (not only) Germans have Advent's Calenders for their children with some little sweet for every day from the first until 24th of December.

Since there's always a little child in all of us, let's have our BABA SAI Advent's Calender -- with very special sweets: a quote from a collection of Sai Sayings by K. Parvathi Kumar in English and Deutsch every day.

December 1st
The Crossroads

Even Gods are jealous of the human body, for it is the only means through which I can be realised. That should be the priority of the human. If not, it is a wasted opportunity. Wake up in the Self before the animal in you wakes up. Every human is at crossroads, he may walk up to be divine or walk down to be an animal.

Der Scheideweg
Selbst Götter beneiden den Menschen um seinen Körper, denn er ist das einzige Mittel, durch das Ich erkannt werden kann. Dies sollte von den Menschen als vorrangig erkannt werden, sonst bleibt die Gelegenheit ungenutzt. Erwache im Selbst, ehe das Tier in dir erwacht. Jeder Mensch steht am Scheideweg. Er kann nach oben gehen und göttlich werden oder nach unten gehen und ein Tier werden.

The Mystic

You can never comprehend the ways of a mystic.
Sometimes he is joyful. Some other times he is dead silent. Yet other times he is dramatic. Still other times he is contemplating.
He can be angry for no apparent reason and in the next moment calm and peaceful like a still deep lake. He can be brotherly, fatherly or friendly and is generally unpredictable.

Die Wege eines Mystikers kannst du niemals verstehen.
Manchmal ist er voller Freude. Ein andermal ist er totenstill. Wieder ein anderes Mal ist er dramatisch oder er kontempliert.
Ohne ersichtlichen Grund kann er zornig sein und im nächsten Augenblick ruhig und friedlich wie ein stiller, tiefer See. Er kann brüderich, väterlich oder freundlich sein. Im allgemeinen ist er unberechenbar.

The Three Disciples

The disciple of the first grade renders the work of the Teacher intuitively. The disciple of the second grade renders the work when told. The third grade disciple does what he desires in the name of the Teacher.

Der Jünger des ersten Grades erledigt die Arbeit des Lehrers intuitiv. Der Jünger des zweiten Grades erledigt die Arbeit, wenn sie ihm aufgetragen wird. Der Jünger des dritten Grades tut im Namen des Lehrers was er will.

Buddha has said that there is one type of man for whom just the shadow of the whip is enough.

Just like very, very intelligent horses: just the shadow of the whip is enough. Then there is a second type: the sight of the whip is needed, the shadow won't do -- the mediocre mind. Then there is a third type, lower, for which even the sight of the whip won't do -- unless you use the whip.... And there is a fourth type also, the lowest; lower than that is nobody. Even hitting him with the whip, whipping him, is not going to help. These four types are four stages of sleep.

The Two Poles

You will be denied of the splendour of life, if you have denied such splendour to others. Those who neglect the life around are neglected by the life. Know this as the secret of poverty and rectify your behaviour. Learn to donate to life that which gathers around you.
Gathering is meant for distribution and distribution is meant for gathering. This is the latent law of life.

Die Herrlichkeit des Lebens wird dir vorenthalten, wenn du sie anderen vorenthalten hast. Wer das Leben ringsum vernachlässigt, wird vom Leben vernachlässigt. Erkenne dies als das Geheimnis der Armut und berichtige dein Verhalen. Lerne dem Leben zu geben, was sich um dich ansammelt.
Angesammeltes ist zum Verteilen gedacht, und Verteilen ist zum Sammeln gedacht. Dies ist das verborgene Geheimnis des Lebens.

A Message

Adversities such as ill-health, problems in family, in society, in business or in vocation sometimes drive a man to a Teacher of life. Adversities in the outer life are blockades that resist undesirable expansion into objectivity and confront man to turn introspective. Every adversity has a message for rectitude and restructering of patterns.
Lucky is the one who lands at the feet of the Teacher during adversities, so that he finds the key to life.


Eine Botschaft

Widrigkeiten wie Krankheit, Probleme in der Familie, in der Gesellschaft, im Geschäft oder im Beruf führen den Menschen manchmal zu einem Lehrer des Lebens. Widrigkeiten im äußeren Leben sind Blockaden, die einer unerwünschten Ausdehunung in die Objektivität Widerstand leisten und dem Menschen begegnen, damit er sich umwendet und nach innen schaut. Jede Widrigkeit enthält eine Botschaft, Strukturen zu berichtigen und neu aufzubauen.
Jener hat Glück, der in widrigen Zeiten zu Füßen des Lehrers landet, so dass er den Schlüssel zum Leben findet.

Deathlessness
No one can escape from the debts incurred without appropriate repayment for the debt. The clever one thinks that he can escape. He is the fool who accumulates the debt which turns heavy. Wisdom tells to meet and to discharge the debt that comes in life. Discharge of debts leads to debtless state. The other name for it is deathlessness.


Todlosigkeit

Niemand kann vor seinen Schulden weglaufen, ohne sie angemessen zurückzuzahlen. Der Schlaue meint, entkommen zu können. Er ist der Dumme, der die Schukd anhäuft, die schwer auf ihn zurückkommt. Die Weisheit sagt uns, dass wir den Schulden, die im Leben auf uns zukommen, begegnen und sie begleichen sollen. Das Begleichen von Schulden führt zu Frei-Sein von Schulden. Ein anderer Name dafür ist Todlosigkeit.



Today is St. Nicholas Day in Germany. It commemorates a miracle by which the ancient bishop of Myrna (Turkey) saved a whole town and especially their children from starvation. On the 5th children will put their boots (one per child) outside their room at night and find it filled with sweets and oranges and apples and nuts the following morning. Some of the sweets may be replaced with tiny gifts.

May SAI bless you all with boots-full of sweet blessings on this and any other day.

The Nine Approaches

There are nine approaches to the path of Truth. They are:

1) Listeining, that leads to listening the voice of silence, the WORD, the OM.
2) Singing to the state of ecstatsy, where the singer merges into the song of breath.
3) Continuous recollection of the One in all, within and outside.
4) Service to the liife around.
5) Worship through rituals - the technique of imitating nature and its patterns.
6) Serving a Teacher and co-operating with the work he does.
7) Harmlessness and the related compassion and love.
Self contemplation.
9) Total surrender to a preinciple of Truth - DHARMA.

Approach the path in anyone of the ways. Treading the path makes you a traveller. Otherwise the sweep of time shifts you to bondage.


Die neun Methoden

Es gibt neun Methoden, um zum Weg der Wahrheit zu gelangen. Es sind:

1) Zuhören, das zum Hören der Stimme der Stille, des WORTES, des OM, führt.
2) Singen bis zur Ekstase, wobei der Singende mit dem Gesang des Atems verschmilzt.
3) Beständige Erinnerung an den Einen in allem, innen und außen.
4) Dienst am Leben ringsum.
5) Verehrung durch Rituale: eine Technik, die Natur und ihre Muster nachzuahmen.
6) Einem Lehrer dienen und mit dessen Arbeit kooperieren.
7) Harm-Losigkeit und die damit verbundene Barmherzigkeit und Liebe entwickeln.
Selbst-Kontemplation.
9) Vollkommene Hingabe an ein Prinzip der Wahrheit - Dharma.

Nähere dich dem Weg mit einer dieser Methoden. Das Betreten des Weges macht dich zu einem Reisenden. Sonst treibt dich die Welle der Zeit in die Gefangenschaft.

Exactly. This is what is called "Nava Vidha Bhakti" -- the 9 ways of reaching the Lord. Those who have read the SSC will recall that Sai gave 9 coins to an old lady devotee (Lakshmibai?) symbolically representing the 9 approaches. I am fortunate enough to see those original 9 coins in Shirdi last year at a small house belonging to the lady's descendents. The 1 Rupee coins were mounted on a lovely wooden plaque and there is a photo of the old lady holding the plaque. How fortunate is she to have seen Sai in person and in being blessed by His divine parting gift!

Fortunate are those who hold my name on their tongue. Whoever calls I shall respond, support and deliver them out of their Karma gradually. Recollection of My name is superior to any variety of worship, ritual and other austere ptractices. This is my promise.


Mein Name

Glücklich sind jene, die meinen Namen auf ihrer Zunge tragen. Wer auch immer ruft, ich werde ihm antworten, ihm helfen und ihn allmählich von seinem Karma befreien. Die Erinnerung an meinen Namen steht höher als jede Art von Verehrung, Ritual und anderen asketischen Übungen. Das ist mein Versprechen.

Cordial Help

Do not discard help offered cordially. Accept all cordial help. That enables progressive movement. Help comes from Me through sources that you cannot visualise.
Cordial help denied results in denial of opportunity. Opportunity is time's gift. The tide of time offers help on a platter. Only the proud ones neglect, overlook and deny. The humble ones accept with gratefulness.


Aufrichtige Hilfe

Weise keine Hilfe zurück, die aufrichtig angeboten wird. Nimm jede Hilfe an, die von Herzen kommt. Das ermöglicht Fortschritt. Die Hilfe kommt von Mir aus Quellen, die du dir nicht vorstellen kannst.
Wenn du aufrichtige Hilfe ablehnst, verapsst du eine günstige Gelegenheit. Sie ist ein Geschenk der Zeit. Die Gezeiten der Zeit bieten Hilfe auf einem Tablett an. Nur der Stolze verachtet, übersieht und lehnt sie ab. Der Demütige nimmt in Dankbarkeit an.

Focus

Meditation is essential for self-realisation. Regular and timely meditation in the initial stages tranquilises the mind. It relieves you from wasteful desires.
Observation of the Self in all the beings around you facilitates you to gain the meditating state quicker.
Medeitation causes focalisation. The focussing one streams into that which is focussed at, concluding the process of meditation.


Brennpunkt

Meditation ist wesentlich für Selbst-Verwirklichung. In den Anfangsstadien  bringt regelmäßige und pünktliche Meditation das Denken zur Ruhe. Das befreit dich von nutzlosen Wünschen.
Wenn du das Selbst in allen Wesen um dich herum beobachtest, findest du schneller und leichter Zugang zur Meditation.
Meditation bewirkt zielgerichtete Aufmerksamkeit. Wer seine Aufmerksamkeit konzentriert, strömt in das hinein, worauf er seine Konzentration lenkt, und endet im Meditationsprozess.

The Initiate

The presence of an initiate leads you to the path of liberation. The discovery of knowledge by the non-initiates, the study of the scriptures, the practice of rituals, the variety of worships even together are far less inspiring than than the presence of the initiate. Verily such presence burns away impurities and establishes self-control to enable pursuit on the path.


Der Eingeweihte

Die Gegenwart des Eingeweihten führt dich zum Weg der Befreiung. Entdecken von Wissen durch Nichteingeweihte, Studium der Schriften, Durchführen von Ritualen sowie vielfältige Verehrungen - all das zusammen ist weit weniger inspirierend als die Gegenwart des Eingeweihten. Wahrlich, solche Gegenwart brennt Unreinheiten hinweg und baut Selbst-Beherrschung auf, damit man dem Weg folgen kann.
