  • How Baba does it?

Faith in Saibaba slowly leads one to believe that Baba is behind the things done or undone. This realization works easy when the things happen to one's satisfaction while it falters if things are not pleasing. The path to the complete surrender at Sadguru's lotus feet chops away the difference between the pleasant and unpleasant.

If one completely understands how Baba's intent or sankalpa translates to tangible actions to its minutest details, contentment naturally fills in the heart and as the consequence equanimity. Rare and great are such souls. Or, if one would say that somehow Baba will do it, is indicative of a blind faith in Sadguru's disposition. This is a feeling that rain or shine, it is Baba! Any trace of ignorance in this regard will be washed away in the constant company of the Sadguru. But judgments of others actions such as "what does he or she think he or she is doing? Its all Baba's doing", is blatant arrogance. One can easily understand this feeling with a little bit of contemplation. These thoughts should be nipped in the bud, as they are signs of spiritual falling.

Baba didn't materialize anything out of thin air. Baba's "miracles" happen through people and situations in our surroundings in the most inconspicuous ways. This truth is articulated in the most eloquent way by Sri Sarathbabuji as follows: "Miracles of Sai do not take place as something falling from the sky. We experience it through mercy, compassion, and protection from those around us in a natural way. We pray to Baba, "Baba! I need money". I am in difficulties". We offer naivedya to Baba and go to bed, but we do not see Baba keeping a lakh rupees under the pillow! Someone will come to us and suggest a solution to our problem. Baba Himself said, "Not a single leaf moves without my order". When the wind blows, the leaves on the tree move. When even the movement of a leaf from an inanimate tree requires Baba's order, His intent and grace, how can we think that everything is in our hands? When this awareness crops in us, the ego that makes us think, "We are doing something, we have to do it, we have to accomplish and we have accomplished because we have done something", will vanish. The realization that "He does everything. And we are not capable of doing anything" is called as "Complete Surrender". However, this should not become the dry and wry philosophy of uttering around, "Its all Baba's sankalpa, what do I have to do? He has done it". The cognizance of "complete surrender" should remain as just an inspiration, a background to the pursuit of our desires, ideals, and trials. Unless we get to completely experience the intent of Saibaba in every action, we should not use the term "complete surrender" for our convenience".

Dhuni burns the sins of my people.

It is not enough merely to prostrate before the Jnanis. We must make Sarvaswa Sharangati (complete surrender) to the Sad-guru.

  • I only ask and take from him whom the Fakir (My Guru) points out. If any one is indebted formerly to the Fakir money is received from him. The donor gives, i.e. sows his seeds, only to reap a rich harvest in future. Wealth should be the means to work out Dharma. If it is used for personal enjoyment, it is wasted.

  • Does BABA wants us to fast?

    from SSC...

"Unless God wills it, no one meets us on the way. Do not discard offers of food; served dish should not be thrust away. Offers of bread and food should be regarded as auspicious signs of success."

    Fasting and Mrs. Gokhale

Sai Baba never fasted Himself, nor did He allow others to do so. The mind of the faster is never at ease, then how could he attain his Paramartha (goal of life)? God is not attained on an empty stomach; first the soul has to be appeased. If there is no moisture of food in the stomach and nutrition, with what eyes should we see God, with what tongue should we describe His greatness and with what ears should we hear the same? In short, when all our organs get their proper nutrition and are sound, we can practise devotion and other sadhanas to attain God. Therefore, neither fasting nor overeating is good. Moderation in diet is really wholesome both to the body and mind.

One Mrs. Gokhale came to Shirdi with an introductory letter from Mrs. Kashibai Kanitkar (a devotee of Sai Baba) to Dada Kelkar. She came to Sai Baba with a determination to sit at Sai Baba's Feet observing a three days fast. The day previous, Sai Baba said to Dada Kelkar, that He would not allow his children to starve during the Shimga, i.e., Holi holidays, and that if they had to starve, why was He there? Next day when the woman went with Dada Kelkar and sat at Sai Baba's Feet, Sai Baba at once said to her, "Where is the necessity of fasting? Go to Dadabhat's house, prepare the dish of Puran POlis (wheat rotis with gram-flour and jaggery), feed his children and yourself too." Shimga holidays were on. Mrs. Kelkar was then in her menses and there was nobody to cook in Dadabhat's house. So Sai Baba's advice was very timely. Then Mrs. Gokhale had to go to Dadabhat's house and prepare the dish as directed. She cooked that day, fed others and herself. What a good story and how beautiful its import!

Sapatnekar was an elite lawyer who did not quite believe in Baba until he had to face the calamity of losing his only son to disease. Disinterested in life and disturbed, he had to seek in refuge in Baba. Another well-known devotee Nanasaheb Chandorkar had his own questions about the all-pervasive nature of Baba. Baba revealed Himself to Nana through some of the divine experiences of the latter, and thus Nana was a part of Baba's court. Kakasaheb Dikshit, another ardent devotee of Sainath did not know about Baba for several years and Baba drew him towards Himself via peculiar circumstances.

Hemadpant wrote that however scholarly might man's learning be, it just fades away in front of the one that realized the Brahman. Everyone one of those that approached Baba with a preconceived notion, either with the curiosity to know if He is really what He is being portrayed as or with the arrogance of learnedness had to bow in front of His humility, benevolence, compassion, and the magnificence. In case of all those learned men, it was the surrender either due to the misfortune of a suffering or the providence of His grace that provided them with the means of enlightenment. It is true that however scholarly man's learning may be, it just fades away in front of the one that realized the Brahman.

On this peaceful Thursday, let us contemplate on that realization only a Sadguru can give and nothing else the world may teach will.

  •  Baba "Do you not believe in your mind in Mahomendan Gods?" He said "No". Then Baba said - "Have you not got a Panja (Emblem of Hand) in your house and do you not worship the same in Tabut, i.e. Moharum festival? Also there is in your house another Mahomedan Deity by name Kadbibi, whom you propitiate and appease on your marriage and other festivals. Is it not so?" He admitted all this. Then Baba said,"What more do you want?" Then a desire arose in his mind to get the darshan of his Guru Ramdas, when Baba asked him to turn back and see. And when he turned, lo, Ramadas was in front of him. No sooner did he begin to fall at His Feet, Ramadas vanished.

  • A description has been given about the Tarkhad family in Sai Satcharitra in Chapter 9. Blessed were the souls who were in Baba’s company and could see Him with their eyes, could feel His presence, could take food with Him. Ah they were unforgettable days of His Bhaktas. Now I will proceed to the main story fo Mr. & Mrs. Tarkhad.

It was the practice of Ramchandra Atmaram Tarkhad to give some money to his wife for expenses of the whole day. That day in hurry Ramchandra Tarkhad forgot to give money. Tarabai Tarkhad stood near the window and asked for money. Ramchandra Tarkhad had a one rupee coin in his pocket, but as he was in hurry and due to his laziness, he said that I don’t have even a coin in my pocket and left for office. Ramchandra Tarkhad was a sansaari purush and these petty things are quickly forgotten as they are very normal.

After this incident both husband wife went to the holy land of Shirdi. When they went to Dwarkamai the Malik of Dwarkamai said, Maji, in this age can we believe people of our own house? They deny even if they have money in their pocket. Sai Baba is omnipotent, He keeps watch on each and every deed of His Bhaktas. Even He points out the wrong deeds of His devotees and corrects them. He takes His devotees to the heights of the devotion.

All days are not the same for every one. There are push and pulls on each and every step. If they are not there then we humans could not understand the importance of happiness. No one could feel the sweetness of the life without tasting its bitterness. That’s only the reason why even Gods and Goddess are eager to take birth on this earth. Their wish would become more intense after they see the devotees of Baba who got His company in Shirdi.

With the passage of time, Ramchandra Tarkhad had to leave the job of Khatau mill. He was serving on high post there. But in a short while it was not possible for him to get another job with same post. So he had to remain unemployed for many days. He had to narrow down his expenses. At last he decided to sort refuge to Sai Baba and so he and his wife proceeded for Shirdi.

Tarkhad was aware that Sai Baba was omnipotent, resides in every being and was aware of the state of His devotee, so he did not tell Sai Baba anything about his financial crisis. After spending a good time in Sai Baba’s company in Shirdi they both started to leave and went to take permission from the lord of Shirdi. Sai Baba said, If you want to go, you can go. Instead of going from Manmad, go the Pune first and then proceed to Mumbai. Now Tarkhad was in a fix. The expense of the journey would increase if they went to Pune and obviously he had to put some control over his expenses in that time of crisis. But who had the courage of ignoring Baba’s order? He had immense faith in Baba so acted accordingly and preceded to Pune from Shirdi.

Now see the love of my beloved Sai for His devotees. After reaching Pune Tarkhad couple resided in the house of their relative. In the course of exchanging thoughts about themselves the relative informed Tarkhad that his friend was searching for a suitable candidate for supervision work in his mil. The next day Tarkhad and his relative went to the mill of the friend and instantly he got the job there.

What a greatness of Sai Baba! He sits in Shirdi and takes care of His devotees around the world, even if they are seven seas away from Him. He had kept His promise that there would never be derth of food and clothes in the house of His true devotee before His Mahasamadhi and also after His Mahasamadhi. We experience this in every step of our life. If we just say Sai Sai from deep within we can find Him standing with helping hand.

Bow to Shri Sai and Peace Be to All

  • No harm shall befall him who sets his foot on the soil of Shirdi.
He who cometh to My Samadhi, his sorrow and suffering shall cease.
Though I be no more in flesh and blood, I shall ever protect My devotees.
Trust in Me and your prayer shall be answered.
Know that My Spirit is immortal. Know this for yourself.
Show unto Me he who sought refuge and been turned away.
In whatever faith men worship Me, even so do I render to them.
Not in vain is My Promise that I shall ever lighten your burden.
Knock, and the door shall open. Ask and ye shall be granted.
To him who surrenders unto Me totally I shall be ever indebted.
Blessed is he who has become one with Me.

  • 1. Don’t enslave yourself to ‘DEHA BUDDHI’. Beware of the ill effects of the senses. Do not inherit and do not lead sinful lives with egoism and enslavement to the sense of taste etc. Shed selfishness and have faith in Supreme Philosophy. If you don’t want your lives to be useless, shun the objects of Indriyas.

    2. However you nourish your body, you cannot save it from your ‘DHARMA’. You will repent at the end if you work to care for comforts. Know that the grasp of philosophy of ‘TEJA-TATWAM’ is the supreme goal of life.

    3. Whatever work is to be done, do it with firm mind for a firm result. As long as your mind does not find peace, your feeling for the Self does not stabilize and hence whatever work you attempt will be useless.

    4. All the efforts of the strong and the weak are possible only in this world. Papa and Punya, the results of bad and good actions, pertain to these mundane affairs and are not related to any other state.

All the illusions, you see in this world is due to the result of Sankalp, you make and all differences are due to your mental attachment of detachment and your seeing the illusion due to your partial perception. In reality, Non-Duality is the basic fact and pervades the whole Universe. Therefore, all of you make efforts to see the equality underlying al the superficial differences.

    5. Do not try to pull down others. This is an obstacle to your Sadhana Shakti. You will lose your innate power, if you criticize others. Therefore, the distinction and disparities among you are due to the different levels of illumination in yourselves. You must know this fact.

    6. Merge your heart with your inner self. If you seek revelations of DIVINE TRUTHS, you should control your senses and only then will be possible. Therefore, fix firmly in your mind the Teachings of Mine.

    7. Know this world is false and transient. Worldly pleasures are momentary and transitory. Whatever the minimum is needed for your body, do that much and do no get attached to it more. Make this your aim.

    8. Do not think that your ideas only are good and try to rub them on others head. Let nobody think that he is greater than others. Know whatever you do, is done by me only and not otherwise.

    9. Learn to be charitable. Charity done in a holy place will ensure your welfare. Charity done with pride and ego is useless.

    10. Indriyas always visualize the external world only. If you want to have Self-Realization keep your mind away from bad acts and make it one pointed without wavering. Till you attain purity of your mind, you will not get Self-Realization. All of you are caught in bondage. To get released from this, by full faith and then you will reach the ultimate goal. As long as desire and greed are present, you cannot attain God-hood. Out of egoism, if you do not get rid of sense desires or if your mind is not pure, all philosophical sayings become useless.

    11. God is a subtle being. You must try to become as subtle as possible. The more subtle you become, the better, because by this way, you come very near God. So try to become subtle.

    12. Quick progress towards your goal is possible when you destroy your own creation around you and then God comes. If you want to lead a life of perfection, you must always abjure falsehood and speak truth only. Cultivate a liberal outlook.

    13. Thoughts create the atmosphere.

    14. Try to develop awareness and try to be alert to what is happening. Then sensitivity will develop.
Not every heart is capable of finding the secret of God's love.

There are not pearls in every sea; there is not gold in every mine.
