Once Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are taking a stroll when goddess Parvati sees an old man who is blind under a tree begging.
Goddess Parvathi upon seeing this sight is moved and tells Lord Shiva , Ó Lord , you bless so many people with so many things, you have even blessed Ravana for his devotion , why dont you cure the pure man of his blindness.
Lord shiva , Smiles and says , my dear consort , it is his fate which he has to undergo for his karma's. Upon hearing this Goddess Parvati gets angry and walks away. Lord Shiva beckons her and asks her to watch.
First he wraps all of Goddess parvathi's ornaments in a piece of cloth and drops in on the ground. Then he blesses the blind man with sight. The Blind man upon receiving his sight forgets his past plight and says to himself , so many people are blind , let me see how they live their life without the power to see . So he closes his eyes and walks on the path on which lay goddess Parvathi's ornaments wrapped in a cloth. Feeling an obstacle on his bath he kicks the bundle of ornaments away and
after going about 10 feet stops and opens his eyes saying , Oh my lord , it indeed is excrutiatingly difficult to be without sight and walks away !.
The moral of the story : God gives you numerous opportunities but it is upto you to
recognize them and use them to your advantage.
