Title: Depression - How to get healed!
Post by: saib on January 07, 2010, 12:19:11 AM
Read on Net. Thought Good to share.

May Sai Bless All! Heal All!

One of the first moods that turns our mind towards God is being unhappy or depressed because of a recent event in our life. The following is an attempt to help you in ways to understand how to overcome this temporary depression.

Simple things to do:

Pray to sai : Depression is generally accompanied by fear. Read Hanuman Chalisa with its meaning once to relieve yourself of immediate depression Or read any other prayer that is your favorite. It always helps.

Listen to Devotional Music: If you are not in a mood to read listen to your favorite devotional music. Listen to Hanuman Chalisa

Visit a temple: If you can, go and visit the nearest temple. Spend some time and relax your mind.

Share your emotions: One of the best way to relieve stress induced by suffering is to share your emotions with your close friends or relatives who can sympathize with you.

Read Bhagavad Gita: Read slokas and meaning from Gita. Gita is very effective giving a message to an anguished soul. All questions that popup in a person who is suffering and depressed are answered by God in this book.

A mood of depression is accompanied by questions like

Why is it all happening to me?
What have I done to deserve this suffering?
Why is God punishing me?
How can I end this suffering?
How can I get more help?

It is quite normal to get all these questions.

Remember:

You are not alone. Not everyone is happy all the time. Everyone has their own moments of happiness and suffering. If you try to talk about your problems you will see that everyone has their own share of problems.
Life is a mix of happiness and suffering. When we are happy we don't question: Why am I happy? Why has God given all the happiness? When we have accepted happiness without any such questions we should also accept suffering.

Reason and look for ways of overcoming the troubles. Seek counsel from elders or experts. Some of the problems cannot be overcome overnight and they need lot of preparation, patience.

Face the Problems: It is in our control on how we tackle our problems: Only YOU, you can face the problems, whatever they may be and overcome them. God has given you the strength to overcome the problems. Trust yourself. Pray to sai  and take guidance and work towards removal of your problems.

Time will heal. Most of the times we find that time heals the wounds. Our depression will be over sometime. Don't continue to harp on the depression times. You have experienced it before and you know it. So never let any temporary depression trouble you for long.

sai  knows best: Whatever is happening is for our own good. sai  knows what is best for us. Whether you believe in Karmic philosophy or not, know that every event that happens in our life is for our best. Count your blessings

I totally agree with your views except last para Sai Knows best. But I want to apologise if my words hurts you.
I want to tell you that i was very bright sstudent in my schooling, i never indulges in bad habbits and always concentrate on studies but the fact is that in the last 3 years i m failing every 6 months. Even baba knows that im  working hard.
Whats good lying in my faliure. In todays competitive era big companies will not even call me for an interview. My family had a loan of Rs. 25 Lacs and i had to be CA to repay this loan. And failing everytime reduces the package which i can get in the market.
In the nut shell i dont agree that  SAI KNOWS THE BEST what best lying in my falire when all my dreams are shattered and i had a lead a life  which i never expect.

Sorry Rahul, I don't agree with you. Before I reply Just want to ask you:

Why you want to be a CA? Why not MBA, Engineer, Doctor, Teacher................any other profession?

Is it your Love for Accounts or Just a status you want (Might be in past you or your parents got attracted towards this profession after looking at CA earning good and his status in neighborhood or any relative. Don’t reply to me. But just be honest.

Just to share you till my 10th class, I had only one dream to be a scientist, nothing else, But today I am in profession entirely different and I am much satisfied.

and who Says Job is not in market, Just leave the Big 4 Firms and some MNC’s and selected indin firms who select on Rank Basis, people respect real talent, and talent does not means clearing all groups in one go or scoring some rank in examination, But Your attitude, your confidence, Your Self Respect, Your communication skills and related knowledge etc.

Show to the world what extra you can give, Spare time to study IFRS, Read Journals with interest. Be good in computer application specially for accounting and finance, Gain as much knowledge as you can, Have an eye on all latest developments in your professional areas (in next two years, one big news expected every month), analyze that. I know it is not so easy, But not so tough too and never  expect companies will come to you, You have to go, If you have a perfect resume and perfect approach, Job is guaranteed, But remember No Pain No Gain.

and why are depending on CA only, Can go for MBA (Finance) with ICFAI or Symbiosis under distant learning options, Doing CA, It will be easier to pursue this course.

Sai Knows the best, It is only Truth. Just Same People dying to marry someone and when it delays start blaming Sai without realizing Might be Sai delaying or stopping for their Good, Because He can see future, Not We. and How it is true for you, Time will reveal this itself and you won’t take it long to understand and accept, that I am sure.

So, Again, Be Strong, Be Confident and Be Enthusiastic! That’s all!

All the best!

Sai Ram Saib Ji . Firstly i m not contradicting you.
First i want to tell u that i was never interested in CA. I was interested in some creative field but since my father is a Chartered Accountant and we were in Rajasthan where in every 2nd household there is baniya Chartered Accountant thats why my parent want me to go for this profession. I secured very good marks in 12th Standards. I was also getting admission in very good college of Delhi. But i was not allowed.
Every year in my articleship my boss dont give me leave for graduation, result was below 50% in bcom. In DU correspondence if you have any idea, reslts are very poor.

As far as new thing like IFRS are coming, i m updating my self. I had asked my father to pursue IFRS through piron education but he says course is costly do it on your own and my salary is not too much.

Post by: rahul1307 on January 09, 2010, 12:04:42 AM
Coming on MBA, my father will not allow me. He will say first complete CA.
Saib ji You know only few people are successful,s do u know the reason for this. Reason is that in our middle class house holds very few students are there who had liberty to pursue the profession of which they are passionate about.
I m not blaming my parents, afterall they were thinking about my future.
I m just saying that when i m working Hard i should get the results. You will not belive that in my Second group lowest marks i secures is 196 and highest is 202 in last attempt with one exemption.  A person securing 200 marks is Chartered Accountnat and a person securing 202 marks had to wait for 6 months. When i had secured the minimus passing marks y baba  had not blessed me.

About Companies, i want a status. I had seen people from big MNC's earning 10lac package that too at starting.
I m not a mahatma i m also a young boy who had some dreams in his eyes.

Rahul,

Life is not so easy. You are assuming if you will ask your parents about MBA they will refuse, But asked, Might happen they Say, Yes. Distance Learning mode course is not so costly and easily affordable even by one who is just earning 10,000 p.m., so, ask, what is to loose here, nothing, but to gain. Yes, a value addition to professional life.

IFRS, why going for costly courses, the people who have just completed these course from various institutes are not satisfied. See the alternatives including online courses (By Feb'10 there will be many more options available), also at this stage, analyze the accounts of companies who have already published there accounts as per IFRS. I guess Dabur, Wipro, Infosys are some names apart from many international companies. Some books available from Rs. 250.00 to Rs.3000.00, also gain knowledge from i/net. Lots of information is available in financial forums. This is a spiritual forum and not financial, so won’t discuss much here, But only if you have will there are many ways.

If you say people earning Rs. 10 Lacs at starting, these are exceptional cases. In my professional life I have seen many starting their career with Rs. 3000.00 to Rs. 5000.00 and just in 5 to 10 years getting to the level of Rs. 1 lac to 2 lacs p.m., by proving their worthiness in the company and their profession.

At Last I can say only, Give your best, Love what you have, what you do instead of craving for that, not in your destiny, whether it is for a person or a profession, 99% problems of life will get solved themselves.

Be Firm on your faith. Have Patience.
Everything will be fine soon!

May Sai Bless You!

Rahulji... God gives us only so much as our soul's bearing capacity...whether its good or bad. We get only that much, which we can handle. He knows best whats best for our souls (not our wants).

Hence keep the faith strong. We'll get the best. Always... Om Sai Ram

PS: IFRS - Pls check out books, internet...especially websites of the big four firms. Focus & first clear your exams... specialization can happen later.

Sis/Shanu/Sweta,

Thanks to Nimmi Ji for such a wonderful article. I just shared. If you go in different section of the forum, You will find many such insightful articles by Ramesh Ji, Tana Ji, Subhashrini Ji, Dipika Ji and beautiful poems by Saisewika Ji along with many other intelligent people.

Rahul,

Do agree with WW. First focus on Degree, Keep yourself familiar with all development, But specialization making a perfect balance between academic and professional study.

May Sai Bless All! Heal All!

OM SAI RAM

Respected Rahul ji,

You are clearly perturbed. Depression is a state of the mind, we may get depressed over our carrer, family, finances, health...there are so many things to think that we do not possess and ponder about them and lead our mind into a state of depression.
I am not one to give you a magic remedy. All that I want to point out is think of the crores of people who have nothing and are far below the poverty line.If I were to compare myself and feel how crickters, and certain individuals are much better off because they have this and that..then where would I be as an individual.
You are meant for better things which will come by your way. Just live for the present, not the previous second or what may happen in the next second.I have been and continue to undergo periods like u have described..honestly I have no control over what is going to happen...then if it is not in your hands this state of mind should be shed. You are going to be a good human being all your life. That to me is something to rejoice and feel happy for you. Sai wii show the path.......just be patient.

I hope I have not offended you,

Warm Regards,

SABKA MALLIK EK

Ten Tips for Overcoming Depression

by Karl Perera

1. Fresh Air. Open the windows in your house and breath in fresh air. Go for a walk and enjoy the benefits that a fresh supply of oxygen has on your brain. Just getting outdoors will relax you and melt away your stress. Your negative thinking will disappear and you'll feel happier.

2. Exercise. This follows on from the previous tip. Exercise will help you to forget your worries and will help you feel more positive. Your energy will increase and you'll feel ready to face the world with a new happier attitude. Exercise also helps to make you look better and will boost your confidence. Just try exercising and being negative - you can't!

3. Light. You may feel unhappy in the winter or on dark days. Don't you feel happy when the sun shines? Try to make your home as light as possible. If necessary change the colours so that light reflects off the walls. Go outside when the sun is out. Sunlight has health benefits (don't overdo it of course). More light will make you feel happier and healthier too.

4. Imagine. Let your imagination help you to break out of your negative thoughts. Using your imagination to visualize (see your dreams becoming real) is very powerful. Actually, just using your mind to imagine for a moment what might happen if things improved or if you had what you want or need can help you incredibly. Your depression will start to melt away as you begin to imagine what is possible, instead of what is impossible. If you can dream about something you CAN achieve it.

5. Set some goals. Depression gets worse as you feel hopeless. Having a sense of hope comes from having clear aims. Are you drifting without direction in your life? If so you'll feel unhappy and dissatisfied. Clear goals will help you to feel more positive.

So how should you make goals? Your dreams for a happier future will seem more reachable if you break them into smaller achievable steps. Make each goal easy because when you suffer from depression you need hope that you can complete the steps and goals you set. What do you want or need to change? What challenges or problems do you need to overcome? Note them down. What is making you so unhappy and depressed? What goals will help you? Setting achievable goals will change your thinking so you become less negative and unhappy. As you achieve each goal your negativity becomes positivity.

6. Take action. Doing nothing or procrastinating feeds depression. It increases your hopelessness and unhappiness so take action as soon as you can. When you know what you need to do, don't wait, get started and you'll feel happier imediately. Action works against depression and lifts you into a more positive frame of mind. Beware of indecision. Inaction because of indecision only leads back to unhappiness and depression. Fear is often behind indecision and inaction so focus on facing any fears which stop you from acting positively. Take action - any action - today!

7. Express your emotions. Talk to a friend and explain how you feel. It may do you a lot of good to talk about your pain. A friend will give you a different perspective. A friend can share their experience and support you. Maybe your friend has also suffered from depression and can help with some advice.

8. Write about your progress. Writing about the pain that depression is causing you is helpful but not if you focus on that too much. The best way to use writing to heal yourself is to create a journal and write about your progress. You should write down how you behave and feel as you face challenges each day. In particular, note down how, despite your unhappiness and negativity, you are not giving up rather you are slowly taking steps to escape the darkness. Rate your performance in difficult situations and the improvement in how you feel about yourself.

9. Read a book that will make you feel happy. Books are so motivating and there are so many out there that can strengthen you.

10. Listen to inspiring music. This is an instant mood changer. When I feel stressed or angry for some reason I slip on my headphones and listen to soothing music. In an instant my negative thoughts become positive and my unhappiness leaves me. There is so much great music out there. I particularly like Enya or Origen for example but anything inspirational be it classical, new age or rock can work. Try it. Depression is closely linked to stress, so inspirational music can relax you and help you to calm yourself.

Rahul trust me bro sorrows should not make you a bitter but better person bro. How do I convince you? Use it to build your character. I am in a hell of depression myself still. Believe me waking up with swollen eyes is not fun and neither sleeping crying. But every day I drag myself out of my loneliness which ofcourse nobody else but my own fault. But this post is not to tell you how bad my situation is but try to tell you that I am fighting depression for over 3 years now. And have failed miserably but havent given up thf hope my dear still. I pray daily I cry daily and try to find some solution daily. And thats what brought me to this forum and this post particularly. And would definitely try everything that Saib ji has to say. Who knows it chadmges one day. I live in hope and that atleast doesnt lemme commit suicide. Hope you too get over your bitterness one day. Your looser wellwisher

Sorry had to blow my nose. I am back again. Even talking about crying makes me cry. That kinda infectious depression is some serious disease. But plz plz plz dont give up on hope and thank God every day what you have. I tell him thanks for giving me a wonderful face, heart and brains too lol. Rarely you find dis combo in girls lol. So whatever is there except and analyse it. Cry when heart is full it helps. But keep struggling coz all the religions say we are eternal blissful souls and we are his part and parcels and each one of us is very special. So lets try to gain our original position. Isnt that we live and die for all our life. You too are unique and very much loved by God. Dont waste human form as Baba says in only worldly pleasures. Do some soul searching too. It ll help. And while I was giving you lecture see my tears dried. Ofcourse hanuman chalisa is playing all this while. Keep praying. Hope all these afflictions make some sense to us one day. And till then keep praying
Title:

 Namaste ,

This is an informative thread with very good posts.  :)

My regards to all the posters here.

In this Kali Yuga, where tamas is very high, there is bound to be sadness and depression, which are the qualities of tamas.

Our duty then lies in increasing our sattva , which is the guna associated with happiness and joy , and reducing tamas.

We can reduce tamas by giving up all activities associated with tamas, like intake of non-vegetarian food, alcohol and intoxicants. Similarly refrain from harsh speech at all times and speak sweetly always , as this is a tapas in itself , as taught by Krishna in Gita.
Also keep away from bad, tamasic company and keep the company of sattvic people and places.

Sattva can be increased by taking fresh vegetarian food offered to God ( just visualize offering the food to God lovingly , and then eat it as prasad ). Spending time in nature , parks or the beach also increases sattva in oneself.

I find the best way to increase sattva is by rising up early morning in Brahmamuhurtham or Amritvela ( 4:00 - 6:00 ) , taking a bath, and meditating upon God or worshipping him with love.  If you can do this, the whole day would be happier, peaceful and joyful for you.

Pranaams.  :)
