Let Go of Expectations

Nothing creates more unhappiness than failed expectations. The job promotion that doesn’t come through, the proposal of marriage that is postponed one more time, the image of an ideal family that never materializes.

Expectations are an attempt to control the future. An expectation says, “I won’t be happy unless x happens.” Here we must be careful, however. Having no expectations is a familiar way of saying that life is empty and without hope. That is not the goal. Instead, it’s a kind of openness in which anything can happen and be welcomed.

When expectations don’t come true, the result is disappointment. You can enjoy your day more if you approach it without any expectations.

1. You can be more centered. When you are centered, you aren’t so dependent on your circumstances. The ups and downs of everyday events don’t throw you off.

2. You don’t need to dictate in advance what a good day would be. One can never see the whole picture. Room needs to be left for the unexpected. In that way, when the unexpected comes, it upsets nothing.

3. You could let go of outcomes. The only thing any of us can control is our own actions. Outcomes are beyond our control.

4. You could take things less personally. Life comes and goes. The universe gives and it takes away.

Nurturing these attitudes in yourself helps you not to build up expectations. I’m not suggesting that you can totally avoid disappointment. Our minds are stocked with images of things that we identify with happiness, and by expecting those things, we expose ourselves to letdowns.

Your soul doesn’t exist to fill a mental list constructed in the past. Its gifts are unexpected. The happiness it brings is fresh because it comes from outside our expectations.

I think message is getting a little bit misinterpreting!

To Expect anything is not bad in life, But to get attached with our expectation is Bad. Only Two examples to understand:

1. “A” wanted to Be IAS. Worked Hard still fail in many attempts. If now he is attached with his dream, He will get broken down and life will be not full of energy, only a dull life, But if he accepts this decision of destiny, Will see other alternatives cheerfully, and opt for MBA etc.  Won’t Keep on crying for years lost in attempting for IAS and cursing his destiny/circumstances of life/God but look forward to welcome remaining years of life.

He expected to be IAS but could not, but didn’t attached to dream and move ahead with different option to lead a new and great life!

2. “A” Loved “B” from each corner of heart and expected “B” to be his life partner. But this relation could not get materialized as “B” got offer from some more smart and rich Guy/Family Problems/Any Reason. “A” did his best, but could not get “B” as life partner.

Now if he gets mentally attached to “B”, He will ruin his life, But if not, Simply thank to God for time spend with a good friend and move ahead to new life!

Expectation is not Bad in itself. This is only expectation which was source of many revolutions in world, So many inventions etc. But to get attached with expectation is bad…………………. If one doors gets closed another opens, If We are attached to closed door, We will never realize God has opened a new door, A path of new life……………a better life!

When I say don't expect, it is from others (in negative sense), But to expect from self is always good to be successful and a blissful life!

at last We should always expect positive and great. Simple Rule that I learn always Prepare and Expect the Best BUT SAME TIME BE READY TO ACCEPT THE WORST!

Let’s think Just differently this time. Guys who are from corporate world will be able to understand easily. If Doubt Even the people on Top Position can try in their organization for short time. If one entity We apply Balance Score Card/Key Performance Areas (BSC/KPA) for each individual position, Promotion/Appraisal linked to their position and in other entity leave the workers at their own. Trust me the entity which will be using BSC/KPA system will be at least 25% ahead from the company without any guidelines.

In first entity People will perform well because they know what is expected from them and same time they would be knowing what they expect from company or that Job. This is a sort of motivation to perform more.

……………that’s why people who are ambitious or have career goals hardly suffer in any area of life. Many times people call them selfish and simply think they will go to hell because they do not spare time for God, But what I believe These people are favorite for God if they discharge their responsibility with upmost dedication and honesty, Spend quality time with family and Pay their taxes without any evasion. God too might be liking these people over those who just keep on chanting his name only to avoid worldly responsibilities. (Can see many people at home/society who just keep on chanting/reading scriptures whenever there is a task expected from them to perform). Exceptions can be only those silent Yogi’s who purify the energy of the universe by constant mediation or devotees who are just mad in love of Lord and don’t have any worldly desire other than God thyself!

Whatsoever I have read about Sai it is always about attachment (Might be I have not got that saying about expectation by Baba) and not about expectation.

It is not bad to expect a promotion or raise in Job, But to attach in such a way that expectation gets associated with quality of services is Bad.

It is not Bad to expect someone to be life partner, But to get associated in such a way that in case of “No” waste valuable years of life is Bad.

It is not Bad to dream about kids to be doctor/engineer, but to feel hurt when they choose Dance/Painting as career is Bad.

Expectation is the source that makes one’s life Big or Small. This is force which can make one CEO of a big corporation or one spending whole life as an executive only. So all what you expect from whom or for what or with what attachment level with your desire and efforts you put subject to purity of your expectation will decide your future.

So, It is good to have expectations from Life. Krishna Says Human is given driving force to move in life………..but in which direction only human has to decide!

Some might find this a different view who believe in “Nishkama Karma”……………..So I am leaving it open without concluding to any approach………… Me too learning!
