The Skin You Want~~~

Six Steps to Perfect Skin~~~

Get the face you want Pretty up your feet

You manage to find the time to incorporate manicures, pedicures and haircuts into your busy schedule on a regular basis. But do you treat your skin right? Washing your face and removing makeup before bed is a start, but a weekly deep cleaning is essential to keeping your skin looking and feeling its best. We asked Manhattan-based skin care expert Lia Schorr to give us some tips for an easy and effective skin cleansing regimen to prep skin for changing seasons.

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleanse your face with a gentle, creamy liquid cleanser. "Bar soap is not only drying, but it's not hygienic," she says. "The dirt that comes off your hands ends up on your face." Put your liquid cleanser on a ball of cotton and then apply it to your skin. (Your hands just aren't clean enough, she says.) Make sure you rinse with lukewarm water because hot water can aggravate the skin and inflame capillaries.

Step 2: Tone

In the old days, toner was analogous to harsh. But there are a multitude of toners on the market today that are gentle and formulated to balance the skin. Schorr recommends using a gentle toner over your face and neck after you have rinsed thoroughly. This removes the last traces of your cleanser and restores the pH balance of the skin so it won't over-secrete or under-secrete oil. For oily or combination skin, you can use a toner that is more astringent. For oily skin, look for ingredients like witch hazel. It's true they are drying, but oily complexions may need this drying effect.

Step 3: Exfoliate

The purpose of gently exfoliating the skin is to remove the buildup of dead skin cells that causes breakouts. Also, you want to smooth the skin's surface so your treatment products can be absorbed more evenly. But don't use exfoliators that are too harsh, says Schorr. Look for very fine abrasives. Scrubs that contain ground-nut shells or apricot pits may irritate the skin because the edges are uneven and can cause microscopic tears. Never use loofahs and buff puffs on your face, she says. "Your face is not a floor and should not be scrubbed like one," she says. "Over-exfoliating will only result in removing healthy new skin."

Step 4: Steam

Gently steam your face once a week for five to ten minutes as part of your deep-cleansing ritual. Place a handful of chamomile in a pot of water and bring to a boil. Turn the flame off and let the mixture "brew" and cool. When it's cooled enough so the steam doesn't burn you, place a towel over your head for a tent-like effect and expose your face to the vapor. However tempting it may be, do not squeeze or pick any blemishes after you have steamed.

Step 5: Revitalize

Facial masks are used to revitalize and tighten the skin. For those with oily skin, clay- based masks are best. Hydrating gel masks or cream masks should be used by those with dry or sensitive skin. If you have combination skin, apply a mud mask only over the T-zone, which is the center of the forehead, nose and chin and the center of cheeks. For a real at-home "spa experience," soak two cotton balls in rosewater and then apply to eyelids while the mask is drying. Schorr recommends doing a "patch test" on your leg before applying a new type of mask to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction to it.

Step 6: Moisturize

Regularly moisturizing your skin is critical to maintaining young and healthy looking skin. Another very important reason to wear a daily moisturizer is for protection against the sun's damaging rays. Moisturizers should be used every morning and every night for maximum results. (Even oily complexions need some sort of moisturizer. Just make sure you find one that's non-comedogenic and formulated not to block pores.) Nighttime is the best time to apply repairing treatments such as anti-aging or anti-wrinkle creams. During the day, make sure you use a moisturizer that contains an SPF of at least 15.

Daily Skin Care~~~

Dry skin~~~
Use a rich cream cleanser instead of soap and water. Avoid astringents, as they will further dry your skin. Instead, use a mild skin toner after cleansing your skin. Apply a good moisturizing lotion in the day, before sleeping, before applying make-up and after removing make-up.
Once a week, wash your face with the juice of a melon. You can give yourself a weekly facial by mixing a yolk of an egg with two tablespoons of milk and half a tablespoon of honey. Apply this on your face and leave it on for about fifteen minutes. Then wash with lukewarm water. If you're out in the sun a lot, milk mixed with melted butter helps soften the dry skin.
Lanolin, apple juice, peach juice, sour cream and crushed almonds are also helpful for dry skin.

Oily skin~~~
You may not believe it, but oily skin actually has some advantages. As a result of excess lubrication, wrinkles do not form prematurely and skin is not much affected by wind and sunlight. However, oily skin is a magnet for dirt and grime and thus a good and regular cleansing regime is a must. If oily skin is not cleaned thoroughly and regularly, the dirt will clog the pores in the skin and blackheads will appear.
People with oily skin should wash their faces with medicated soap and water. The use of astringents is advised as they have a tightening and drying effect on the skin. Buttermilk or beaten egg whites also have a drying and tightening effect. Parsley juice mixed with honey and a few drops of lemon or ginger is good for an oily skin. This mixture controls the secretion of oil.
Fuller's earth (Multani mitti), oatmeal, almond paste, or lime juice or vinegar mixed with water are excellent cleansers. Steaming opens up the clogged pores and you can push out blackheads and whiteheads and prevent pimples.
Avoid rich fried foods and load up on green vegetables instead. Take two tablespoons of lecithin granules (a by-product of soyabeans) daily.
After washing your face, soak a towel in hot water and press it to your face. Repeat this process two or three times. Next wet the towel in ice-cold water and repeat the process two or three times to close enlarged pores.
Cucumber, parsley, cabbage, tomato, yoghurt and lemon are natural aids for an oily skin.

Combination skin~~~
If you have an oily nose and forehead, but dry cheeks and chin, you will have to treat each area of your face separately depending on whether it is dry or oily.

You can invest half your paycheck in serums and creams - even splurge on dermal fillers and pricey facials - but none of it will get you far without a skin-friendly diet.Of course, your skin (and the rest of you, for that matter) is best served by a well-rounded diet, including healthy fats, sufficient protein, and lots of fruits and vegetables. But there are a few nutritional standouts that make particularly important contributions to strong, glowing skin:

1. Fish: Fatty fish like salmon, tilapia, and cod are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. And that's a good thing, because our bodies cannot produce those essential lipids naturally. By adding omega-3s to your diet, though, you can bolster your skin barrier - that is, the layer of lipids that holds onto moisture and keeps irritants out.

There is even evidence that the skin-strengthening effects of omega-3s can improve chronic skin conditions like rosacea and atopic dermatitis, but more research is necessary to confirm that link.

Furthermore, many types of fish (like, once again, salmon and cod) are rich in vitamin D - as dermatologists increasingly emphasize sun avoidance, we also need to emphasize the importance of finding other sources of this vitamin, which is produced during sun exposure.

Don't eat fish? Many eggs are now fortified with omega-3 fatty acids, and plant sources include flax seed and flax seed oil, walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts. And a daily vitamin D supplement is a good idea for vegans and meat-eaters alike.

2. Green Tea: It's inexpensive, easy to add to your routine, and one of the best-researched and most powerful antioxidants around.  Some studies even suggest that the antioxidants in green tea reduce one's risk of skin cancer. So put down that soda and start drinking your way to healthier skin!

3. Broccoli: Rich in vitamins A, C, and K (among many other nutrients), this veggie does more than its fair share of nutritional work. Vitamin A decreases oil production, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, and vitamin K can help prevent bruises. So whatever ails you, this green wonderfood might be just what the doctor ordered.

4. Safflower or Sunflower Oil: Omega-3s get a lot more talk, but omega-6 fatty acids - like the linoleic acid in these two oils - are also important for healthy skin. Like omega-3s, they help prevent dry skin and inflammation; they're also essential for the formation of prostaglandins, hormones that keep all the cells of the body functioning well.

While many diets are actually quite high in omega-6s - sometimes even too high - the key is to get the good ones and not unhealthy versions, like hydrogenated oils. So try sautéing your salmon or broccoli in a little safflower or sunflower oil and double those skin-soothing benefits!

5. Almonds: When it comes to boosting skin's defenses against aging, inflammation, and even skin cancer, antioxidants are so important that I'm going to add another to my list: A handful of almonds every day boosts your levels of vitamin E, one of the most important antioxidants for skin health. Studies also suggest that consuming vitamin E orally can increase the levels of this moisturizing vitamin on your skin's surface - great news for anyone prone to dry skin.

How TO Get Rid Of Pimples~~~

Most of the pimple products on the market are just there to rip you off. There is no guaranteed cure for pimples, and there probably never will be. Keeping your face clean and moisturized is about the most important thing you can do.

Drink 8 or more glasses of water a day.

Sleep more. Your body will be more prepared to deal with problems.

Avoid touching your face, as this just spreads bacteria.

Only use oil-free products on your face.

Always use toner and moisturizer.

Wash your hands often to rid them of oils.

Vinegar works well, too.

Try Off EZY Wart Remover with 17% salicylic acid medication to each pimple individually. Do not use it everywhere, as it will sting. Apply calamine lotion around the area.

See a doctor about serious acne.

Try not to wear makeup. It clogs pores and can lead to breakouts.

Eat foods high in protein, iron, fiber, and zinc.

Give the treatments time. An acne treatment is not going to work "just like that."

Avoid the use of products with 10% or greater concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide. BP is known to cause dryness, itchyness, and burning sensation of the skin. Consult a medical professional if you experience any of these symptoms.

Accutane is a wonder drug for severe acne. Can almost wipe out breakouts with a 3-6 month treatment and can last anywhere from 1 year to a lifetime!

Wash your face and put baby powder on the area. It's the fastest way to dry those pimples out and get rid of them. Baby powder works like a charm.

If you have pimples that you want to get rid of fast, put ice on them for 30-60 seconds every 30 minutes. And then apply rubbing alcohol.

Warnings~~

Toothpaste doesn't really work. It's supposed to but doesn't make a noticeable difference.

Don't scratch or pick at your pimples. It will only make the situation worse. Only pop pimple if they are very white and fixing to explode; even then one should wash their hands and avoid having to apply too much pressure.

Don't wash your face too often--it can dry out your skin and cause irritation.

Summer Skin Care: An Ayurvedic Way

Being the mirror and the barometer of an individual's health, skin is the clue to one's Ayurvedic constitution. If the skin is not cared properly and neglected it suffers from premature aging and becomes dull and blemished. Summer is the season when skin is to be ignored no way. The simple but effective 'Ayurvedic home remedies help you to attain a clear, healthy and glowing complexion. Ayurveda mentions many simple natural ways to maintain a healthy and glowing skin.

According to ayurveda healthy skin is the result of overall health condition of individuals. Medically skin is a sensory organ that responds to reflexes and is a protective system that shields the entire living body. Apart from perceiving sensations such as cold, warm, heavy, light, rough, smooth, etc. skin is also an excretory agent for sweat.
Ayurveda philosophy is very simple "if you cannot eat it, do not put it on your skin. What is put on the skin should be filled with nourishment, naturally occurring vitamins and minerals safe enough to be taken internally."

Here are some suggestions to keep your skin looking beautiful all summer long:

homemade masks Drink lot of water through the day, not only to replenish moisture lost to the heat and sweat but also to help flush toxins out of the body and keep skin looking clear and lustrous. Herb or spice teas, made with skin-enhancing ingredients, offer added therapeutic benefit. Choose cooling herbs and spices such as mint, cardamom and fennel.

Eat lot of fruits, vegetables and herbs, which supply the skin with essential nutrients and come with free-radical fighting antioxidant properties while they help keep your skin cool. Carrots, lettuce, summer squash such as zucchini, celery, asparagus and leafy greens are good vegetable choices. Sweet juicy fruits such as pears, grapes, watermelon and mangoes both nourish our skin faces a constant barrage of chemicals everyday from pollution to harsh chemically formulated products that strip the skin of its natural balance.

Milk is a cooling beverage that also supplies nutrients to your skin and helps to keep it from drying out. Drink a cup of milk every day, and also combine milk with ingredients like almond meal and rose water to make a balancing skin cleanser.

Get plenty of quality rest each night. Keep your bedroom cool, dark and comfortable and sleep on cotton or linen sheets. Get to bed early and awaken early for clear healthy skin and sparkling eyes.

When you feel stressed, angry or frustrated, your skin will show it over time as furrows and small lines and breakouts. Practice calming yoga poses or meditation to stay serene and help your body and mind manage stress. Use essential oils, such as rose, sandalwood and lavender to keep mind and heart balanced.

Keep your skin nourished with a herbal moisturizer. Look for ayurvedic formulations that contain skin-friendly herbs such as sandalwood, turmeric, brahmi, amla and aloe vera. At least once a week, treat yourself to a fruit or vegetable mask appropriate for your skin type. Cucumbers, avocados, apricots and papayas lend themselves well to homemade masks.

Use some fruit or vegetable and blend with some yogurt, honey, oatmeal and lemon juice or rosewater and apply evenly to the face. Let stay for 15-20 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water. It will make the skin shining.

Eyes and feet should be given extra care everyday. Splash lots of cool water on your eyes. Soak some cotton pads in cool water or rose water and place them over closed eyes for 10 minutes.

Skin Care Tips and Advice
Delicate, soft skin like that glows from within - now, who would not want that for themselves? It seems like women over the centuries have been trying to perfect their derma-logical composition. All of us at some point in our lives struggle with acne, white patches, dull-looking skin and umpteen other such problems. With a few tips and some effort on your part, we can get you started on a great regime for improving and maintaining your beautiful skin.

When we were younger, issues related to skin was never a problem. Perhaps at that age such issues were never considered as issues. Or perhaps our skin was naturally perfect. You have to admit that ageing can cause havoc on your skin. The older you grow, the more lines you may see or more flaws you may perceive.

Our skin is affected by factors that can be grouped as intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic factors are those aspects, which relate to our genetic make-up. Our genes to some extent determine the dynamics of ageing which has a direct effect on our skin. Extrinsic factors are those that affect us from the outside. Our habits, lifestyle and exposure to sun are primary factors that affect our skin.

Rest your fears if you think your genes are the criminals to your unhealthy skin. It is proven that extrinsic factors have a more profound effect on our skin than intrinsic factors. It is really simple to understand. If you do not eat right and deprive yourself of nutrients, it is bound to reflect on your skin. White patches, dark circles, dull-looking skin are all related to nutrition deficiency in some way. Likewise an unhealthy lifestyle where you deprive yourself of sleep, stress yourself out, smoke or ignore a routine of exercise will also leave obvious signs on your skin.

Nearly everything you do can somehow affect on your skin, whether positive or negative. However apart from eating right and living right, our skin does need to be given extra care. Creams, face scrubs, cosmetics etc. are all means to make yourself look good and feel good. Even if you have flawless skin, the use of such products is just one extra way to pamper yourself. But if you use products unsuitable for your skin condition, then far from pampering and rejuvenating your skin it can cause some damage.

A cream, which proves to be a disaster for you, may not be for another person. This is simply because of your skin condition. You may have an oily skin or a dry one or perhaps a combination of both. To know for sure, try out a simple test recommended by us. You will know exactly what your skin type is and this will help you pick out the right products or treat your excessively dry or oily skin.

Needless to say it is not just a simple cream that can help you rejuvenate your skin. Cleansing, toning, moisturizing and other such practices can help you take good care of your skin and make you feel like a pampered girl.

Has Your Skin Lost Its Glow?

The party season brings with it a lot of fun. It also means a lot of late nights, rich unhealthy food, too much alcohol and, for the ladies, too much make-up.

Unfortunately, these are a surefire recipe for skin problems.

Many people walk into skin care clinics after Christmas and New Year celebrations, complaining of dull, patchy, tired looking skin, dark circles, flared up acne and loss of glow.

Here's how to bring the roses back to your cheeks and start 2007 looking refreshed.

Ban make-up~~~

Avoid make-up for two weeks. Use only face wash and moisturiser. At the most, use a little loose powder on your face. Let your skin breathe for a few days.

Scrub it up~~~

Use a mild face scrub on alternate days. You can use any commercial apricot scrub or a homemade scrub of coarse gram flour or oatmeal, mixed with water, to form a paste. Gently rub for 10 minutes; then rinse to remove the layer of tired, dead cells.

Condition all over~~~

Apply warm olive oil and lime juice or glycerine and rose water on your face, neck, hands and feet, at bedtime everyday. If you have an acne problem however, avoid using this on your face.

Magic potion~~~

Drink 10 glasses of water daily, to detoxify and flush out harmful chemicals from your body.

Skin cocktail~~~

Make a healthy skin cocktail~~ throw in oranges, carrots, a piece of bottle gourd (doodhi or louki) and a bitter gourd (karela) into your juicer/ blender. Fill a large glass with the resulting extract. Don't make faces -- just gulp it down! Do this daily for at least two to three weeks.

Shun that sweet~~~

Avoid soap on your face for some days. Use a moisturising bar like Dove, a medicated cleanser like Cetaphil Lotion or a natural cleanser like gram flour (besan) and honey.

Morning mantra~~~

Drink a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of honey and a dash of lime first thing every morning. Remember to do this on an empty stomach.

Magic 'workout' wand~~~

Do some form of aerobic exercise for at least 20-30 minutes every day to boost your skin's blood circulation.

Steam away~~

Steam your face twice a week for 10 minutes each time.

Wonder packs~~

Use this face pack two to three times a week: Mix half a teaspoon sandal powder (chandan) with a teaspoon of Fuller's Earth (multani mitti) and two teaspoons rosewater.

For oily skin~~ use a teaspoon each of gram flour, turmeric paste and curd.

For dry skin~~ use blanched and crushed almonds, mixed with honey and milk cream. Leave on for 15 minutes and scrub off with warm water.

Good Sleep is must~~

Get enough sleep~
it's your skin's natural healer. Aim for at least eight hours a day.

These simple steps should go a long way in helping dull, lifeless skin regain its glow. In fact, include these good skin habits in your New Year Resolution list and enjoy great looking skin all through the year!

Honey for Beautiful Skin

Honey has always been an essential part of beauty regimens. Cleopatra used to bathe in milk and honey. Royalty in the olden days depended largely on honey to keep youthful and beautiful.

And why not? Honey is packed with nourishing and beautifying properties. It is probably the very best beauty product you can use on your skin.

Lets take a look at some sweet facts about honey.

Honey can treat minor irritations and sunburn. It has anti-microbial properties.

Honey has the ability to retain water. Therefore it is a good agent to use in moisturisers, creams, sunscreen lotions and other beauty products.

If mixed with bath water when washing hair, it can bring a shine to your hair. One teaspoon of honey in one medium sized mug of water and poured on your hair after the last rinse, will work wonders in making your hair soft and silky.

It works well with alpha hydroxy acids - it helps soothe the skin against an abrasive treatment.

Mix equal parts of honey and milk. Apply the mixture all over your body. Wash off after twenty minutes. You can notice a new-found glow on yourself.

Honey has antioxidant properties. It helps fight skin damage and ageing.

Honey also helps to fight damage caused by the sun's UV radiation.

Dry skin can be very sensitive as it is low on sebum levels. Especially so when the weather is cold and the oil glands do not supply enough lubrication to the skin. As a result, in winter, the skin takes on a parched look and feel, as it is not able to absorb and retain moisture. After a wash the skin feels uncomfortably tight and seems to pull in all directions. On such skin types, it is advisable to apply some moisturiser immediately after a shower. One may also experience chapping and cracking up of the skin and this means that the skin is extremely dehydrated. The condition worsens when you go out in windy and extreme temperatures. The skin becomes flaky and dull and lines and spots become more visible around the eyes and mouth. Considering that the last remnants of winter are still prevalent in parts of India , it is good to know how to deal with the problem of dry skin in cold conditions as well as under normal circumstances.

Nutritional deficiencies can make things worse as can environmental factors. Skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and seborrhea can also affect the person.

Medical reasons can also contribute to dry skin. Of these the most common are an underactive thyroid, skin complications because of diabetes and drug-induced dry skin – drugs like diuretics, antispasmodics and antihistamines are known to affect the skin. Genes can also be responsible for your dry skin.

Care of dry skin

Avoid using very hot or very cold water when cleansing dry skin

Try not to use tap water as it may have deposits that can harm the skin. At least for the face use a splash of mineral water.

Do not use a cloth or jute scrub on the face. The rough texture will harm the skin. Mist your face by spraying your face with mineral water. Never rub the facial skin. Simply pat it dry.
Cleansing with soap removes more than just dirt – all the natural oils that protect the skin also get removed leaving the skin dull and listless. Use a moisturiser immediately to counteract this. It will increase the water content in the outer layers of the skin and give it a soft dewy look. One could use cleansing creams for the face instead of harsh soaps.
Use of baby oil after a bath is also known to have beneficial effects.
Massage with a nourishing cream at night paying attention to the eye area.
Make a beauty mask in the following manner and apply on your skin at least once a week. Mix 1 egg, 1 tsp honey, ½ tsp olive oil and a few drops of rose water and apply it on your skin before you go for your bath.

Fancy yourself a royal treatment? All you have to do is to lie (a la Cleopatra), totally relaxed in a tub of warm water to which 250 gms of milk powder has been added along with a few drops of rose water and a spritz of your favourite perfume. Come out in half an hour all refreshed and sweet smelling and see for yourself the magical results on your dry skin!

Cracked, sore lips? Massage them at bedtime with malai to which a few drops of rose water and lime juice have been added. A bit of Vaseline rubbed on the lips after applying lipstick will keep them from drying.

During cold winter, avoid going out in the wind without applying a strong moisturiser. The wind can cause extensive damage to your fragile facial skin

Aloevera gel has a beneficial effect on dry chapped fingers. Apply generously at bedtime and wear gloves.
Avoid going out in the harsh sun without a sunscreen protection as it will cause burning, dryness, wrinkles and rashes.

FACE FRUITS!

If you were envious of Sonam Kapoor’s perfectly clear and radiant skin in “Saawaria” we will give you some “fruit” for thought…..Yes, we all know fruits are good for you, but did you know fruits are good for your face? How about giving your face a treat and “glowing” crazy?

Papaya
Apply papaya pulp on the face, rubbing it gently. This helps polish your skin, leaving it smooth and soft. It cleanses your skin of impurities and prevents acne and pimples. This is a great way to polish your skin at home, making it glow.

Apricots
Overripe Apricots mashed and applied to let dry like a mask, helps draw out excess oil from your skin, making it less prone to acne and breakouts. If you have dry skin, avoid using this face mask.

Oranges
Take one teaspoon of orange juice and mix it with five drops of lemon juice. Mix it with enough multani mitti or Fulers earth to make a smooth paste. Add a pinch of sandalwood powder and a few drops of rose water. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes. Apply liberally on face and neck. Rinse after 20 minutes, and see your complexion glow!

Bananas
Banana is a natural moisturizer and softens your skin. Mash a banana, add a pinch of sandalwood powder and a few drops of honey. Add some fresh cream or malai and a pinch of haldi. Your face mask is ready! Apply generously on the face and neck, rinse with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.

HOME REMEDIES FOR WRINKLES~~~

Wrinkles appear on the face in the old age. It is natural. This is produced due to ageing. Taking care of the skin in the young age can prevent premature ageing.

Wrinkles appear in the skin when it becomes thin and looses its elasticity. The appearance of some wrinkles is due to aging, and is the most common skin problem for women. One of the first signs of wrinkles normally appears around the eye. As the time passes it appears on the cheeks and lips.

There are many factors that can contribute in the development of wrinkles some of which are: diet and nutrition, muscle tone, pollution, habitual facial expressions, chemicals, stress, improper skin care, and lifestyle habits such as smoking.

The most important factor is exposure to the sun, which is the worst enemy of the skin, because it dries the skin and leads to the generation of free radicals that can damage skin cells. Researches show that 90% of what we think, as signs of age are actually signs of overexposure to sunlight. Furthermore, approximately 70% of sun damage comes from everyday activities, as driving and walking to and from your car.

The ultraviolet-A rays that cause this enormous damage are present all day long in all seasons. These ultraviolet-A rays wear away the elasticity of the skin, causing wrinkling.

HOME REMEDIES FOR WRINKLES~~~

Cucumber juice can be effective in alleviating age spot skin problems.

Fresh Papaya juice can remove dead and rough skin, and apple and pineapple juices can help to diminish fine lines, wrinkles and cracked skin.

Title: Re: Skin Care Tips~~~Lip Care~~~

Om Sai Ram~~~

Lip Care~~~

Q: How is lip care different from skin care?
Well, your basic lip structure is different from your skin structure. By that I mean your lips do not have any sweat or oil glands unlike your body skin. Now this means that your lips have no natural moisture at all.

Also, the outer layer of the lip is extremely thin and even completely absent in most people. So your lips dry out faster than your skin as moisture evaporates from the lips much faster than from skin. This dryness results in chapping and cracking, and in extreme cases it can increase the risk of inflammation, infection and burning sensations.

You need to use good quality products for your lips like Blistex DCT, Lip Balm or Fruit Smoothies which keep your lips soft and supple.

Q: How do we protect our lips from the sun?
Lips have little or no melanin, your skin's natural sunscreen pigment. Without it your lips are extremely susceptible to the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays.
Now, lips should be protected from the sun with a product that contains a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or more. This is essential as constant exposure to the sun can result in lip cancer. Blistex products contain SPF 15/20 which effectively shield out the sun's harmful rays.

Q: Lips need to be protected indoors. Is this true?
That is actually a very good question. The answer is yes. Your lips do need to be protected indoors. Unless you're living in a house with no windows, the sun's rays can most definitely harm your lips.
Also, what many don't realize is that if you spent a great deal of time in centrally heated or air-conditioned rooms, your liable to end up with extremely dry lips. Dryness is also the enemy when a winter cold or flu strikes. So, it's a good idea to work lip protection into your daily skin care regimen-whether you spend time outdoors or not.

Q: How do we heal lips that are already severely dry?
For seriously dry lips, I recommend using a medicated product, like Blistex Lip Ointment, that contains penetrating analgesics to bring cooling relief to lips and moisturizing ingredients to hydrate lips.
And yes, prevention is better than cure, so make sure you continue to use Lip Ointment to avoid severely dry lips from recurring.

Q: Is it possible to reduce the signs of aging on lips?
Lip wrinkles are growing to be more and more of a problem now days. The thing is you don't necessarily have to be old to develop them on your lips.
Now, the two bigger reasons for lip wrinkles are sun damage and loss of elasticity. The most important thing to do is to ensure that you're using SPF 15 or more. This takes care of the sun. You could use any of the Blistex products which have moisturizers with sun protection ranging from SPF 15-20.

But to eliminate lip wrinkles and prevent the appearance of lines, you need to use Blistex Fruit Smoothies. This product literally turns back the clock for your lips, making them look younger and more supple.

Q: How can we tell if a particular product is good for our lips?
You first need to identify what your lip problem is. Are you suffering from chapped, dry lips? Then you need a product that contains a good balance of moisturizers to condition your lips. Look out for products that contain Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter, Soya Protein and essential Vitamins. They nourish your lips, making them look and feel healthier.
You should also ensure that the product you're buying contains SPF to protect your lips from the sun. You could check out the entire range of Blistex products which contain SPF 15/20.

If you're suffering from Blisters or cold sore, you need a curative product that contains intense medication to relieve your lips. Lip Ointment is a good option.

How To Care For Dry, Itchy Skin In All Seasons~~~

Do you have dry skin? Most people notice a drying tendency in their skin at certain times of the year, especially in the winter when they are cooped up indoors with dry heat. Others experience dry, itchy skin in the summer if they go outdoors too often without staying hydrated. Some people are more prone to dry skin for genetic reasons, while others live in an environment that causes their skin to dry out more quickly than it would elsewhere. No matter the cause, dry skin can be extremely irritating and painful. Some people's dried tissues dry out so badly that their hands can develop open sores that become infected. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to avoid these drastic outcomes, as indicated in the tips that follow below.

1. Manage seasonal aggravations~~~

Human skin can be very sensitive to changes in the weather, atmosphere, and environment. Cold winter days that force people to stay indoors in homes that have central heat can cause chronic dry skin irritation that lingers for weeks or months. Some people's skin dries more quickly than other people's skin, and you can see the fine lines or flakes that form on their faces, arms and feet, or other exposed areas of the body. To deal with winter dryness, it may help to run a humidifier that puts moisture back in the air.

Turning the thermostat to a lower temperature in the 60's rather than in the 70's or 80's can reduce the dry air in your home, although naturally, you have to be careful on extra cold days to keep the house warm enough for aging people or small children. When venturing outdoors in cold weather, you should cover the skin to prevent it from getting dried out by wind or cold.

In the summertime, sunscreen not only protects the skin from tanning rays that can damage cell tissues, but some types also may help to seal in moisture that offers additional skin protection. It is important to stay hydrated and practice dry skin care to prevent problems associated with warm temperatures and sun exposure.

2. Drink plenty of water~~~

Clean water that you drink on a regular basis irrigates both the inside and outside of your body. Dry skin can be alleviated when you make sure to get at least eight glasses of healthy water each day, which can help protect against dry, itchy skin. Clear liquids like soup, juice and herbal teas can be included in your eight-glass quota, but remember that beverages that contain caffeine might deplete your bodys fluids and leave you even more dehydrated. Getting enough water to drink on a daily basis is the perfect way to start your skin care regimen.

3. Lather up with lotion~~~

There are many good quality skin care products on the market today, including creams, lotions and body oils that will help to keep your skin moist and supple. Lotion for dry skin can be bought at most grocery stores, pharmacies, discount marts, and other quick-stop shops. You can choose from literally hundreds of moisturizing products, such as day creams, night lotions, long-lasting (or heavy) creams, scented or unscented moisturizers, and products that form part of a grooming set of body soap, shampoo and matching lotion. Many hotel and motel chains keep small containers of lotion in their rooms bathrooms for guests who may have forgotten to bring some or who may experience dry skin while away from home. Travel sizes or samples can be purchased at many discount stores.

4. Don't take too many hot showers~~~

Although being clean is always a good idea, it is possible to overdo your showers, baths and saunas. Ideally, a hot shower should last no longer than three to five minutes, and you may want to adjust the water temperature to a reasonable setting that won't steam and dry your body's skin. Daily showers are fine, but if you are taking two or three a day for reasons other than exercise or dirt exposure, see if you can cut back to one daily. Long, luxurious bubble baths are great to a point. As with a shower, try not to soak in the hot water more than necessary, as it can dry out your skin especially when aided by certain kinds of soap. Avoid lathering the same areas multiple times if you are using strong or harsh soap.

5. Avoid diuretic beverages~~~

Drinking or eating products that are laced with caffeine, such as coffee, tea, cola, and chocolate, can contribute to your skin’s drying out as you lose body fluids and become dehydrated. Switch to low-caffeine or caffeine-free products to head off this problem. If you are taking water pills, ask your doctor if an adjustment needs to be made to keep your skin from becoming too dry.

Women tend to be more concerned over their skin than men, so they are more apt to buy skin care products, which make great gifts, especially for someone who spends a lot of time in the sun or who struggles with dry skin.

Its a good idea to keep a small tube of skin lotion on hand at all times, carrying it in your purse year-round. No one wants to shake hands with Velcro, so apply lotion or cream to your dry skin if you will be meeting people and getting introduced. Some folks keep extra lotion in their cars, in their pockets, and in several rooms of the house during the seasons when they dry out the most, and then their skin can stay supple and moist all day.

Dealing with enlarged pores

Add tablespoon of Fennel ( Saunf ) in a large pot of water. Cover the pot & bring to a boil. Turn off stove. Then steam face for 5-6 minutes over the hot water by putting a towel over your head to feel the steam. Please be careful not to overdo this.

Sponge cold rose water all over the face.

Dark under-eye circles

Place a cold, used tea-bag, on each eye daily. Relax for a few minutes. In a few weeks the black circles will be diminish significantly. Please make sure that you do not use a fresh tea bag, as it may leave the tea colour on the skin. It is preferable to rinse the tea bag if it is freshly used.

Natural way to condition hair

Add a couple of teabags to 3 cups of boiling water. Boil for about 2 minutes, remove from the stove. Strain immediately. This will make a weak tea. Cool this weak tea. Rinse hair with this mild tea infusion. Let this dry for ½ hour then rinse off with water. Gives a nice shine to the hair.

Dealing with dry skin

Mix one teaspoon of glycerine in two teaspoons of lemon juice and rose water. Apply on face, neck, rough elbows, and knees. Excellent for softening the skin and keeping it free of dryness.

A home-made dry skin mask?

Mix well 1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 tablespoons fresh cream and apply on face. Leave on for 10 minutes and then remove with cotton balls soaked in warm water. Mix well 1 tablespoon of cornflakes, 1 tablespoon of almond oil & 1 tablespoon olive oil (or just 1 tablespoon of fresh cream instead of the almond oil & olive oil). Apply on face, leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse off.

Clearing blemishes

Grind mint leaves and water into a paste and apply on blemishes.

A natural mask for oily skin

Plain low fat curd is a good mask. Strain about 4 tablespoons of curd. Beat well. Apply a thin layer on face. Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes and then wash off with warm water to get a very clean healthy feeling to skin.

It isn't enough if you have a gorgeous face and a soft and glowing skin. Your rough hands and calloused feet might give the whole game away. Keep your hands and feet soft and supple too. Here's how :

Hands reveal your true age. The skin on your hands is thin and delicate; you need to take special care of them.

Soak hands in warm water for five minutes and then pat dry with a soft towel.

When dry, cut your nails (they will have softened with the soaking). Always remember to file nails in one direction and not back and forth as it will split the nails and weaken them.

Use a hand cream on your fingers and the back of your hand.

For your feet, you have another special routine that you could follow:

Warm some water and add a pinch of salt to it. Soak your feet for 10 or 15 minutes.

Then scrub (but not too hard) your feet with a pumice stone, especially on calluses, corns and rough cracked heels when the skin is still damp.

Clean your toes and toe nails using a nailbrush before you clip them. Always clip your nails straight across to prevent painful ingrown toenails.

After you've cleaned and clipped, apply a foot cream on the top and soles of your feet. Concentrate on the rough portions. Let your feet absorb the cream for about 15 minutes and put on fluffy cotton socks. The warmth from the socks helps trap in the moisture and cream into the skin.

Pregnancy & Soft Skin~~~

Most women dread the idea of getting pregnant only because they fear it would wreak havoc on their skin. All those stretch marks they keep hearing about from friends – they feel it is enough to forget about having babies! But things are not so bleak if you take good care of yourself from the time you discover that you are pregnant.

Make skin care a part of your daily routine, more so when you are pregnant. Remember that stretch marks affect most women – the skin that is stretched when you are pregnant tends to leave scars after the baby comes out. So begin your skin care regimen from day one – and reap the benefits.

~~There are plenty of products flooding the market for pregnant women. Cocoa butter is one such lotion that is said to help skin to retain its natural elasticity and moisture. Massage this regularly on your stomach and other stretch areas for maximum benefit.

~~Never forget your daily moisturizer. It helps in keeping the skin in good shape and hydrates the skin. Apply one immediately after getting out of the shower for increased absorption and hydration.

~~If you have just delivered your baby, what you will need in addition is a skin firming lotion. Most of these lotions now widely available under different brand names, contain in addition to cocoa butter, collagen elastin ginseng and vitamin E. Massage this cream/lotion slowly on specific areas prone to sagging that need a special lift. This will help restore a taut and supple skin.

~~Proper application is however needed or best benefits. Always make circular strokes on your thighs, upper arms and midriff when applying a skin firming lotion.

~~Your bustline needs extra care especially when you are feeding the baby. Bust firming creams are now available. Invest in one and start applying it as soon as you feel that your breasts are tender and enlarged. This will also prevent ugly stretch marks under your bustline after the baby is born as this area is ultra sensitive.

~~Use a body lotion every day. This will help to ensure that your skin has a youthful glow even while it improves the skin’s elasticity.

~~In addition, using a daily all-over moisturizer to improve skin's appearance and elasticity can help ensure a youthful glow. Use it both after a shower and before bedtime if you want to look after your skin.

Follow these essential tips for skin care when pregnant, and when your baby is born, it will have tough competition from the mother where a soft, radiant skin is concerned!

Title: Re: Skin Care Tips~~~'Mask' your face
Post by: fatima on June 29, 2008, 04:08:17 AM

There is nothing like a natural facial mask to clean and revitalize your face. In the days when cosmetic research was at a very nascent stage and when only foreign cosmetics were available at a price thanks to the British, our grandmothers devised their own remedies for common pinpricks like acne and blackheads. It is these well worn ideas that are being used today by cosmetic companies that boast of stringent R&D before launching any new product. In fact, so popular are our Shahnaz and Biotique products that they have caught the imagination of the foreign cosmetic companies who are turning 'natural' with a vengeance.

A quick riffling of our treasure chest of grandma remedies has yielded rich results for facial masks. We share these with our readers.

Did you know that oatmeal is one of the oldest and most used facial masks? Just make a smooth paste of oatmeal by adding sufficient water. Apply on the face and allow to dry. Wipe off gently with a damp cloth.

Another inexpensive but equally effective mask can be prepared the same way by substituting cornmeal for the oatmeal. This can be washed off when dry.

Using a blender, combine ½ a cucumber, a few strawberries, 1 tablespoon of yogurt and 1 teaspoon honey. Apply this mixture to the face and allow to dry. Wipe it off gently with a soft, damp cloth.

Have some sour cream on hand? Simply mash ½ a banana, add 1 tablespoon honey and add to the cream and mix well. Apply and allow it to set for at least 10 minutes. Wipe off very gently with a damp cloth.

1 tablespoon of almonds ground to a fine powder and mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 egg white should be applied to the face and let set for at least 15 minutes. Again, use a damp cloth to wipe off.

Plagued by blackheads and at a loss for a safe remedy? The baking soda in your kitchen will come in handy here. Mix equal parts of baking soda and water in your hand till it becomes a smooth paste and rub gently on your face for 2 to 3 minutes with your fingertips. Rinse with warm water when done. This will help to loosen stubborn blackheads.

Did you know that avocado is wonderful for the face? Just mash ½ an avocado and apply to the face. Wait for 20 minutes before wiping off with a damp cloth.

Juice of ½ a lemon, a cup of plain yogurt, 1 whipped egg white mixed with 1 ½ teaspoons of honey will make your face glowing and fresh.

Hope those of you with dry and tired facial skin will find these tips useful. There is nothing like a homely facial mask to firm up and revitalise your face and these grandma's tips are harmless and worth a try. Please test for any allergies before using any product, whether home-made or from the chemist's

Natural Tips For Beauty~~~

Acne: Rubbing the area effected by acne with a fresh cut clove of garlic will help to clear the area up. Don't forget to drink at least 1 liter of water a day to keep a healthy glow to the skin.

Dry Skin: Puree 1 banana and 1 papaya together. Apply to skin and leave on at least 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Next massage mayonnaise int to the skin leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse with warm water. Do this every other day until your skin is soft. Then continue to use once a week to maintain the skins softness.

Split Ends: After you shampoo your hair apply this to treat split ends. Half a cup of milk added to tablespoon of cream. Beat well, then apply throughout all of your hair. Leave on for 20 minutes then rinse and washout with water.

Facial Mask: Take one egg yolk and apply to the face. Allow to dry and remain on face for at least 5 minutes after drying. This will help to firm up the face. With repeated use it works like an all natural face lift. If you want a deep cleansing mask at the same time just add 1 teaspoon of table salt to the egg yolk before applying.

We're always trying to look better. It has something to do with being a woman. We need to look good and get even better looking. Indian women love experimenting with alternative remedies. They know it works, be it a new way to remain sweet smelling in summer.

Do you feel you're putting on weight again? Need to shed a few pounds? Play classical music during meals. You'll end up eating less.

Is your itchy scalp plaguing you? Add an aspirin to your shampoo. Wait till it dissolves. Stir it well. Wash your hair with it, massaging it well into your scalp. It combats dandruff effectively.

A dull skin? Does it make you look tired all the while? No problem. Just wipe your face with a moist green tea bag. And Voila! You're beginning to glow already. Or to refresh your eyes, place the tea bags on your closed eyelids for ten minutes or so. There! The sparkle is back in your eyes.

Oh no! A night out and the grey is beginning to show. Honey, just use your mascara to touch up your roots. It's very effective for an evening.

The peak of summer. And you're sweating like a horse. Especially on your feet. Sweaty feet smell. Get savvy. Apply some anti-perspirant on the inside of your shoes just before you wear them.

For healthy skin, wash your face with milk powder twice a day. Marvel at the difference.

Post by: fatima on July 17, 2008, 04:34:10 AM

Many women seem to think that slathering on any moisturiser before going to bed will solve all their skin problems. Nothing can be further from the truth. Proper skin care requires a lot more than just an application of moisturiser. You have to follow a fairly strict daily regimen to derive the best benefits of any routine. A regimen that takes but a few minutes of your time but which, if done properly, will give you tremendous benefits.

Five minutes and four easy, pleasurable steps! That's all it takes to make your skin glow! Ready?

Begin with steam. Ideal time for steaming your face is bedtime when you are ready to get rid of the dirt and grime accumulated during the day. Use a facial steamer for proper steaming. Don't have one? Never mind. Soak a washcloth with steaming water, wring it lightly and hold the cloth close to your face. Steam the face for about 1 – 1½ minutes. Feel the steam entering your pores and opening them up.
Done with steaming? Get ready to cleanse your face. Splash warm water liberally. Take a generous amount of face cleanser into your hands, mix it with a little water and work up a lather. Massage this into your face using your fingertips in a circular motion for 30 seconds. Include your neck in this massage. Rinse with warm water and gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Remember to avoid massaging the delicate area around your eyes.
The next step is toning. What you need to use here is an alcohol-free toner as the ones that are alcohol based have a drying and damaging effect on the skin. Dampen some cotton in the toner and gently wipe your entire face and neck. With this step, you will be rid of any residue dirt that might have escaped the previous steps. It also helps to close your pores and prepares your skin for the next step. After this step, you will find that your face is quite squeaky clean.
The last step in your beauty regimen is moisturising. Take a small amount of moisturiser and apply it in a circular motion on your face and neck. Take care that you do not over-apply as that might cause more harm than good. It is only if the previous steps have been diligently followed that you can expect the moisturiser to do its work which is to condition, moisten and protect your complexion. With this final step, you can rest assured that you have completed your daily skin care regimen. You realise that you have but spent exactly 5 minutes of your time but those 5 minutes are an investment towards making your skin glow with good health even as you grow older. You have, in fact, invested in a lifetime of beauty for yourself.
Title: Re: Skin Care Tips~~~10 Steps To Soothe A Sunburn
Post by: fatima on July 22, 2008, 03:42:01 AM
1. Go retro with an old-school home remedy: cool (but not cold) milk compresses. The proteins in milk give skin a protective coat that prevents water evaporation. The skin needs moisture for the healing enzymes to work properly. These will soothe skin and take the sting away.

2. Take ibuprofen (400 mg every four hours) until the redness goes away. Just as this anti-inflammatory can minimize the swelling of a sprained ankle, it can reduce the inflammation of burned skin.

3. Speaking of anti-inflammatory agents, you can also start drinking green tea or pomegranate extract or juice. Both have soothing anti-inflammatory benefits - better yet, they're both strong antioxidants, which means that they can help mitigate some of the unseen damage that UV exposure is doing to your sunburned skin.

4. In fact, you can't get too many antioxidants, particularly when skin has taken a UV beating. Be sure to eat three servings of fruits and veggies every day (particularly antioxidant powerhouses like berries) to prevent damage.

5. Topical antioxidants are another important healing tool. (They're important all the time, but even more essential when you're healing from a UV boo-boo!) For your face, try antioxidant-rich moisturizers like Topix Replenix Cream CF, RevaleSkin Coffeeberry Day Cream, Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Lotion, or Aveeno Ultra-Calming facial moisturizers. More and more body moisturizers, like Nivea Body Skin-Firming Lotion and Topix Citrix Body Lotion, also include antioxidants.

6. Don't forget the old post-beach classic: For the first days of discomfort, use a topical product with aloe, an anti-inflammatory standby, to soothe and cool sunburned skin. Sea and Ski's After Sun Therapy is my personal favorite.

7. When your skin begins to peel, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize - at least three times a day.

8. But as tempting as it can be, do not pull off flaking skin, which can exacerbate the peeling. Let it fall off naturally.

9. Also, do not exfoliate or use glycolic acid, retinoids, or salicylic acid (a.k.a. beta hydroxy acid) until all peeling has stopped. Your skin is too delicate during the peeling phase to use these ingredients, which accelerate cell turnover (a process your body is already taking care of naturally).

10. The most important thing you can do, of course, is make sure that you never get sunburned again! Now's the time to pick up a good broad-spectrum sunscreen (that's one that blocks both UVA and UVB, the two types of ultraviolet light that can damage skin) like Neutrogena Dry-Touch Sunblock or Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock.

And don't forget to reapply often - sunscreen is not a once-a-day proposition! You'll need to slather it on every hour that you're in direct sunlight, or after swimming or sweating heavily.

Wishing you great skin!

You don't need to buy expensive beauty products for adequate skin care. The best of skin care products are often found right in your kitchens.

Here are a few simple ways of taking care of your skin the natural way.

Wash your face with cold water. Pour a few drops of rose water onto a wad of cotton and rub on your face. It works as an excellent skin toner.

Cucumber juice applied on your skin once a day leaves your skin clean and glowing.

Is your oily skin the bane of your life? Does your face look dark and tired through the
day? Mix ice water with lime juice and wash your face with it thrice a day. Revel in the difference. A word of caution though - make sure this concoction doesn't go into your eyes. It could also sting at open pimples and acne spots.

Mash a tomato and apply on face for about 20 minutes. This helps alleviate sunburn and keeps the skin glowing. However people with sensitive skins should be careful about using the pulp of tomatoes. Their skin could start reacting adversely.

Egg white applied on the face and neck will help keep the skin young and supple. You must be careful not to let egg white get on to the skin under your eyes. People with dry skins are advised against using this recipe -as it could make their skins even more dry.

Dip cotton in ice cold milk and place over your eyes. It helps dark circles fade away. It also helps refresh your eyes. People wearing glasses or contact lenses should remove them before trying this recipe.

Skin Cleanser~~
Found in your own kitchen is a simple, chemical free cleanser – good ol’ unboiled milk. All you need to do is dip a piece of cotton wool in milk and wipe your face with it. It also cleans unseen dirt and goes down into your pores. Another fine cleanser is almond oil, especially effective in protecting the delicate skin under the eyes.

For dry skin, you could use a mixture of cooked oatmeal and honey; it will not only help moisturize the skin but also acts as a good cleansing agent.

You can then apply this protein mask to your face and wash it off after half an hour. This exceptional protein mask will not only nourish the skin but also bleach it.

Everyone wants to have smooth and beautiful skin. You can achieve this by gathering the following ingredients, and following the simple steps below. It's simple and takes little time. A skin care program is the combination of skin care products and a routine that will be most beneficial to the skin. You will first need to consider your diet and lifestyle since these two factors play an important role in the health of a person's skin. Here's are the everyday habits you need to keep your skin beautiful:

These days we seem to be living in the fast-food age and the condition of your skin is often neglected. You still can't beat the old fruit and vegetable diet when it comes to good health and a good complexion.

* A bit of exercise and good sleep are vital, not just for skin care but for your health as a whole. A shortage of sleep can lead to formation of wrinkles below your eyes and lack of exercise can cause your skin to slack. Furthermore, exercise and sleep also help in beating stress. In addition to being a skin care tip, this is also a health care tip.

* Drink plenty of water. Adequate amounts of water not only keep your skin moist, but can aid in the overall maintenance of your skin and body health. While this step doesn't seem like much of a challenge to some, it's one skin care tip that's often overlooked.

* Eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and leafy green. Good nutrition is the basic building block of healthy skin.

* Be gentle with your skin. After all, it's the only skin you have, and it is protecting your entire body. Don't scrub too harshly or exfoliate too often, and don't overdo your use of skincare products.

* Keep it clean. Cleanse your skin at least once or twice a day. This is a very important skin care tip that will help to rid your skin of dirt and bacterial elements. Cleansing is particularly important when you have been away from home and exposed to pollutants, dust and debris. Another good skin care tip is to use lukewarm water for cleansing, as water that's too hot or too cold can damage your tender skin.

* Screen your skin. Always use sunscreen to shield your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. Use moisturizers containing sunscreen every day, even when the sun is not shining. It's been proven that UV rays cause skin cancer, so you can't afford to skip this tip.

*Throw away the soap and use quality products that are right for your skin type. Discuss your home skin-care routine with your esthetician.

* Remember to put sunscreen on exposed areas like the back of your hands, neck and chest. They're often the first place to show your age.

* Keep your skin moisturized at all times. The importance of moisturizer is one of the most important skin care tips. Don't allow your skin to get dry. Dryness causes the outer layer of your skin to crack, causing a rough and unattractive appearance. Try moisturizers and emollients. Moisturizers work best when applied while the skin is still wet.

* Avoid putting soap directly on your face. Soap should only be used on skin below the neck.

* Treat skin problems with care. This skin care tip is all about not ignoring any skin problems. Consult your dermatologist before you try a new skin care product (lest you do end up harming your skin even more).

Pack those vices

Needless to say, alcohol, smoking and drugs are not really the way to having great skin.

If you are fond of any or all of these, you know why your skin looks so unhealthy.

Here are a few solutions sent by our readers to the very common blackhead problem.

Take some Milk of Magnesia and spread a very thin layer on the problem areas. Allow it to dry naturally. Feel the skin tightening. It will act like a mask even while all the blackheads are extracted. Once totally dry, wipe off with a soft, damp cloth. Or simply wash it off. Look into the mirror – all the blackheads GONE!
Sandalwood powder which is generally available in all Indian stores is excellent as a blackhead remover. Make a thick paste of sandalwood, mixing it with enough water. Spread this on your face covering all the blackhead areas thoroughly. Rinse off with cold water and feel your skin getting invigorated and thoroughly cleansed. O this at least once a week for best results.
Get some chickpea powder available in all provision stores. Use it to make a thick paste and again spread it all over your face. Rinse off after ten minutes. You will be amazed at the result. Best of all, no side effects!
Try dabbing the problem areas with white toothpaste at night. Leave it on all night and in the morning wash it off with cold water. Rub the face softly with a slice of cucumber and feel the freshness. This works well for oily and acne prone skins, but it is to be avoided if have dry skin as toothpaste is abrasive and may cause dryness problems.
If you have oily skin and are prone to pimples and blackheads, there is a fairly simple solution. Wash your face with warm water which will help to open up the pores. Crack an egg and take out the yolk and the albumin. You will notice a thin, translucent skin-like layer next to the shell which serves to remove all impurities from the egg sac. You will be surprised how well it performs as a cleansing agent for your facial skin in removing the dirt and blackheads! Method: Place the inner layer (not the side towards the shell) of this thin skin on the problem areas of your face using it as you would the commercial pore strips. Allow it to dry and then wash it off with warm water. You will find that the blackheads have been removed and that all he oil and dirt has gone as well! Point to note here is that desi eggs have a thicker layer and is easier to use than the commercial variety of eggs.
