  • Dhuni is a must for shirdi sai temple...also sri Sai satcharita parayana is a means to seek sai's grace and instructions.

(Though this was published article in Shree Saileela 25 years ago now written from a different angle for the benifit of innumerable Sai devotees of the present day.Let us note the divine hand of sri Sainath).

Shri Keshav ramachandra pradhan, native of Bhivapuri road near Mumbai was a noted atheist from the begining of his life.Sai Maharaj in his own mysterious way pulled him to Shirdi and turned into a staunch theist as narrated below. He was pulled to Shirdi through his friend who was a regular visitor to shirdi.Pradhan also used to go officially to Manmad,Kopergaon for collections. Once he had agreed to accompany his friend to Shirdi on condition he should not be forced to see Baba. They rented a room.Pradhan stayed back.At 12'0 clock noon Arati bells began to ring. This sound had magnetic effect on Pradhan by dragging him towards Dwarakamai.Pradhan went into trance after stepping into the place. After Arati all left except pradhan.Baba called him near and asked for dakshina. He had an amount of rupees two thousand and five hundred rupees including money collected on behalf of his parsee employer. In that trance he gave entire amount. He was at a loss as to do what after coming to normalcy from trance ...He was short of cash for going to Bombay except a gold ring.He engaged a tonga and gave gold ring for sale.A tall suited gentleman who observed this not only paid tonga fare but also purchased ticket for bombay.(Dear Readers who could be the gentleman ?)on his return to Bhivanipuri he sent a letter to his employer stating he was unwell the employer replied that he could attend the office later as he received double the amount. This news made the'atheist'in pradhan to diappear The tiny seed of devotion sown at Shirdi has sprouted.Pradhan prayed "Oh!Baba I am a sinner. So far I remained away from you and did not acceed to the request of my friend to come to your lotus feet but you have now favoured me by your grace and I am sure all my sins must have now been wiped out." In one of pradhan's visits to Shirdi in 1916 Baba handing over a replica of himself said"Go back to Bhivapuri erect a temple and place this replica there.Start all the functions there and do not come here." (Beloved readers this reveals that Baba had approved construction of temple for him.His replica is as powerful as himself and celebration of all functions also was approved by Baba.I feel it was the first Sai Mandir built during Baba's physical presence at Shirdi-If not enlighten on this point reg.first Mandir with facts and figures.) He did not comply with Baba's instructions and went to Shirdi.Baba questioned "when I have come to your house why have you come here?Bhivapuri is your Shirdi now?(Readers!Shirdi is the place wherever Baba rests.Baba rests where there is full devotion. It is confirmed Baba's dictum those who think I am at Shirdi have not understood me). This remark of Babaji awakened Pradhan a temple amidst good natural surroundings was built. Not only Pradhan but also his guests felt the presence of Baba in the mandir. People heard opening of the doors at 12 midnight and closing of the doors at 3 am. Pradhan built a beautiful shrine room,a spacious hall,a wide verandah and a guest house.Sai-intoxicated soul in pradhan left this earth in 1939 leaving the responsibilites of upkeep of mandir to his sons,son-in-law. On account of heavy inflow of devotees it was planned for further expansion. The work was held up in the middle for want of funds. Sri narayana purohit resorted to the feet of Sai Baba through parayana of sri Satcharita. After four days saibaba appeared in the dream of pradhan and asked"Where is my dhuni? If there is no dhuni how can this be shirdi? How will the temple be completed?"As this dream was repeated sri purohit informed the trustees who had erected dhuni which was inagurated by the grand son of shri Dabholkar on 7-04-1949. Afterwards a devotee offerred to pay all the expenditure of the roof and other structure. (Now we learn that dhuni is a must for shirdi sai temple.Secondly sri Sai satcharita parayana is a means to seek sai's grace and instructions). Readers would like to further enlighten me on this. How sainath tought us universal truth

  • Baba's declaration that there is no difference between Him and His photo

One day Baba Saheb Tarkhad and his son Jyotindra had a dream in which they saw a beautiful carved mandir with Baba seated on it. Accordingly they got a beautiful Sandal wood mandir carved by special carpenter. They needed Baba's portrait.

Let us see the wonderful way how Baba arranged His photo. One friday evening, both the father and son went to chor bazar in Bombay. A muslim shopkeeper ran to them and asked to collect parcel meant for them. As the shopkeeper was new to them, they asked him how did he know a parcel was meant for them. The shopkeeper narrated that one saintly, elderly person came to his shop and handed over the parcel and also paid Rs 50/- towards service charges. The elderly person wanted it to be given to a hindu father with an english hat and son wearing a black gandhi cap. Exactly Tarkhad and son wore hat and cap.

When they asked him to open the parcel it contained a framed photo of Lord Sainath suitable to be kept in the sandolwood mandir.

Later Tarkhad family went to Shirdi and had Baba's darshan in Dwarakamai. At the sametime Baba told a devotee who was trying to take Baba's photo "Please go to my Bhau's place where you will find me alive in the photograph in the mandir" Tarkdad's were very happy to hear this news and shed tears of joy.

Dear readers, Let us recapitulate Baba's declaration that there is no difference between Him and His photo. Did not Baba attend in the form of His photo Hemandpant's shimaga dinner? When Shama sought Baba's permission to go to Kaashi and Prayaga did not Baba say "WE would be ahead of Shama", actually Baba's photo was hung in Pujari's house in prayag?

BOW TO SAI !! PEACE BE TO ALL!!

OM SAI SRI SAI JAYA JAYA SAI!!!

  • How BABA provided water for his bhakta,HIS grace on all of us

When N.G.Chandorkar or ‘Nana’ as Baba affectionately called him, was halting at Kopergaon, Baba sent word to him repeatedly to come to Shirdi for a visit.  Nana after much hesitation came up to Shirdi and asked Baba why he was sent for.  Baba replied that for four previous births, Nana had been intimate with Baba and that therefore in this life also, he should get into similar close contact.  Again Nana hesitated.  But Baba, by the exercise of his wonderful powers and his kindness especially, filled Nana’s heart with faith and gratitude for numerous miraculous favours showered upon him.  On one occasion when Chandorkar was stranded on a hot day on a waterless hill (Harischndra Hill) unable to climb up or get down, he suddenly exclaimed; ‘If Baba were here, he would give me water’.  Baba who was then at Shirdi, forty miles away, mentioned to the people there that Nana was thirsty and should be provided with a palmful of water.  At that time, a Bhil appeared on that hill and pointed out a palmful of water to Chandorkar, under the very rock over which the latter was seated.  Later when Nana visited Shirdi, Baba informed him that it was ;he who provided water on the waterless rock.

  • OMSAIRAM!Whenever i read Shri Sai Satcharitra..i feel i have yet to learn so much from BABA

    :)

    BABA AN EMINENT DISCIPLE

A fakir, Jawahar Ali by name, who was a resident of Ahmednagar, came to Rahata, along with his disciples. Choosing an open space near the Veerbhadra temple, the fakir set up his camp there. But the fakir was really very fortunate. Had it not been so, how could he have had such a famous and delightful disciple as Sai?

The fakir was very learned. The Quran-e-sharif was at the tips of his fingers. Many people - some selfish, some spiritual, and some pious and faithful - became his followers. He began constructing an Idgah. Some time went by; he was then accused of defiling the temple of Veerbhadra. Then the construction work of the Idgah came to a halt and the fakir was driven out of the village. From there he came to Shirdi and stayed with Baba in the mosque. The Fakir was a sweet talker. The whole village adored him and people said that he had cast a spell on Baba too, and charmed him completely. 'You be my disciple' said he to Baba, and Baba, with his playful disposition, assented. The fakir was delighted and took Baba out of Shirdi.

With an eminent disciple like Baba, Jawahar Ali became the guru. Then they both decided to go and live in Rahata.

The guru did not know his disciples marvelous ways; but the disciple knew the guru's short-comings. But never did the disciple show disrespect, thereby observing the duties of a good disciple. Whatever command came form the guru's mouth, proper or improper, was obeyed, no sooner it was given. Baba even served His master in various ways. Thus the days passed in service of the Guru. But then it so happened that though they would come to Shirdi off and on, their main stay was in Rahata. The loving devotees of Baba in Shirdi did not like Baba staying away from them in Rahata. They thought that by yogic powers the Fakir had bound Sai to himself, whereas Baba's plan was altogether different, it was His way of destroying the ego. The villagers were greatly agitated in their minds to see Shri Sai so much in the power of Jawahar Ali and were in serious thought as to how he could be won back.

As gold and it's lustre, as lamp and it's light, so was the inseparable state of this guru and disciple. And they both had this experience of Oneness. So they went in a deputation to bring Baba back to Shirdi. When they met Baba near the Idgah and told Him the purpose of their visit, Baba said to them that the Fakir was an angry, ill-tempered fellow, he would not leave Him and that, they should better go back to Shirdi without Him before the Fakir returned. While they were thus talking, the Fakir turned up and was very angry with them for trying to take away his Disciple. There was some hot discussion and altercation, and it was finally decided that both the Fakir and Baba should return to Shirdi. After a few days the Fakir was brought in the presence of
Guru Devidas, who was dispassion incarnate and a dhayani. He engaged the Fakir in a religious debate in Shirdi and exploded all his misconceptions. Thus Jawahar Ali was worsted and fled from Shirdi. He went and stayed in Vaijapur and returned to Shirdi after many years and prostrated humbly before Shri Sainath. All his misconceptions about himself being the guru and Sai his disciple, were dispelled and by repentance he was purified. Baba also accepted him with respect, as before.

Such were Baba's inscrutable ways! The issues got resolved when the proper time came. In this case Sainath showed by His conduct and practice, how one should get rid of egoism and do the duties of a disciple to attain the highest end, viz., self-realization.

There is no better state than that one should completely surrender to one's guru, or that one should totally accept the disciple as one's own. Without this relationship one cannot cross the ocean of worldly life.

Bow to Shri Sai, Peace Be to All

  • Baba's prophecy seemed to be falsified, but in a month or two there was abundant rain everywhere and the prices suddenly fell down; and, therefore, those who stored grains suffered a severe loss. Damu Anna was saved from this fate. Needless to say that the cotton speculation which was conducted by the broker with the help of another merchant also collapsed with a severe loss to the adventurers. After seeing that Baba had saved him from two severe losses in cotton and grain speculations, Damu Anna's faith in Baba grew strong and he remained a true devotee of Baba till His passing away and even now.

Deva u always say......................why should you take the responsibility of the actions on you? Do not entertain the sense of doership in doing good, as well as for bad deeds; be entirely prideless and egoless in all things and thus your spiritual progress will be rapid." •  Baba in His own mysterious ways pulled the sparrows(devotees) to Shirdi

    Thankyou BABA

Sri Jyotindra, Son of Ramachandra Tarkhad( Chap 9 of SSS) defined the word SAI as follows -- SA means Saakshat (real), I means Ishwar (God),after experiencing the Divine powers of Sainath Prabhu in his very first meeting at Shirdi itself. Baba Himself gave darshan to Jyotindra in Mumbai in the guise of a 'Fakir'. We are aware that Baba has declared "I require no conveyance, carriage, tonga nor train nor aeroplane" and also "No door is necessary for my entry, I have neither shape nor size, I am always everywhere" . Yes, Baba's assurances are always true.

One day while Jyotindra was crossing the road to go to school (St Xaviers, Bombay) after lunch, a Fakir approached him for alms. Young student gave one copper paisa coin of the year 1894 assuring it was in circulation. The fakir blessed " Allah Bhala Karega". We will know Baba preserved the same to return to the boy at Shirdi in his first meeting.

How Tarkhad family was pulled to Shirdi? Mrs Atmaram Tarkhad ie., Jyotindra's mother had a chronic headache, which could not be cured by doctors. The family of Tarkhads was full of doctors. One of them was personal doctor to the then Viceroy. Somebody suggested her to approach Pir Moulana Baba residing near Bandra Masjid for suitable medicines. On seeing her, Moulana Baba advised to go to his brother at Shirdi for treatment. After getting details of location of Shirdi including route particulars both mother and son left for Shirdi.

The moment Baba saw them at Dwarakamai, He Himself told they were guided by His brother from Bandra to Shirdi. He blessed her with a 'Abhaya Hastha' with Udhi and said "Oh, Mother! from now onwards you will never get headache in your life", she got instant relief and was surprised to know that Baba Himself did what was required without their telling Him. Ofcourse this incident laid firm foundation of Sai devotion in her and son's heart.

Jyotindra who was observing Baba's peculiar treatment for his mother's headache was astonished and fell on Baba's feet as a mark of gratitude. Then Baba asked whether he could recognise Him. As he could not Baba narrated how He collected one paisa copper coin of 1894 while he was crossing the road on his way to the school. Now Jyotindra could recollect and caught hold of Baba's legs with tears of joy in his eyes. Then Baba confirmed it was He who received the coin and the Fakir and Himself were one and the same. To confirm this He showed the same coin and returned it to Jyotindra for preservation and worship.

We know from the above that Baba in His own mysterious ways pulled the sparrows(devotees) to Shirdi.

OM SAI SRI SAI JAYA JAYA SAI !!

  • He  implored to Baba saying- "Oh Baba, please show me the Brahman soon." Baba replied - "Oh my dear friend, did you not understand all the procedure that I went through, sitting in this place, for enabling you to see the Brahman? It is, in short this. For seeing Brahman one has to give five things, i.e. surrender five things viz. (1) Five Pranas (vital forces), (2) Five senses (five of action and five of perception), (3) mind, (4) intellect and (5) ego. This path of Brahma-Jnana of self-realization is 'as hard as to tread on the edge of a razor'.

  • All persons do not see or realize the Brahman in their life-time. Certain qualifications are absolutely necessary. (1) Mumuksha or intense desire to get free. He, who thinks that he is bound and that he should get free from bondage and works earnestly and resolutely to that end;and who does not care for any other thinks, is qualified for the spiritual life. (2) Virakti or a feeling of disgust with the things of this world and the next. Unless a man feels disgusted with the things, emoluments and honors, which his action would bring in this world and the next, he has no right to enter into the spiritual realm. (3) Antarmukhata (introversion). Our senses have been created by God with a tendency to move outward and so, man always looks outside himself and not inside. He who wants self-realization and immortal life, must turn his gaze inwards, and look to his inner Self. (4) Catharsis from (Purging away of) sins. Unless a man has turned away from wickedness, and stopped from doing wrong, and has entirely composed himself and unless his mind is at rest, he cannot gain self-realization, even by means of knowledge. (5) Right Conduct. Unless, a man leads a life of truth, penance and insight, a life of celibacy, he cannot get God-realization. (6) Preferring Shreyas, (the Good) to Preyas (the Pleasant). There are two sorts of things viz., the Good and the Pleasant; the former deals with spiritual affairs, and the latter with mundane matters. Both these approach man for acceptance. He has to think and choose one of them. The wise man prefers the Good to the Pleasant; but the unwise, through greed and attachment, chooses the Pleasant. (7) Control of the mind and the senses. The body is the chariot and the Self is its master; intellect is the charioteer and the mind is the reins; the senses are the horses and sense-objects their paths. He who has no understanding and whose mind is unrestrained, his senses unmanageable like the vicious horses of a charioteer, does not reach his destination (get realization), but goes through the round of births and deaths; but he who has understanding and whose mind is restrained, his senses being under control, like the good horse of a charioteer, reaches that place, i.e., the state of self-realization, when he is not born again. The man, who has understanding as his charioteer (guide) and is able to rein his mind, reaches the end of the journey, which is the supreme abode of the all-pervading, Vishnu (lord). (8) Purification of the mind. Unless a man discharges satisfactorily and disinterestedly the duties of his station in life, his mind will not be purified and, unless his mind is purified, he cannot get self-realization. It is only in the purified mind that Viveka (discrimination between the Unreal and the Real), and Vairagya (Non-attachment to the unreal) crop up and lead on the self-realization. Unless egoism is dropped, avarice got rid of, and the mind made desireless (pure), self-realization is not possible. The idea that 'I am the body' is a great delusion, and attachment to this idea is the cause of bondage. Leave off this idea and attachment therefore, if you want to get to the Self-realization. (9) The necessity of a Guru. The knowledge of the self is so subtle and mystic, that no one could, by his own individual effort ever hope to attain it. So the help of another person-Teacher, who has himself got self-realization is absolutely necessary. What others cannot give with great labour and pains, can be easily gained with the help of such a Teacher; for he has walked on the path himself and can easily take the disciple, step by step on the ladder of spiritual progress. (10) and lastly the Lord's Grace is the most essential thing. When the Lord is pleased with any body, He gives him Viveka and Vairagya; and takes him safe beyond the ocean of mundane existence, "The Self cannot be gained by the study of Vedas, nor by intellect, nor by much learning. He, whom the Self chooses, by him It is gained. To him the Self reveals Its nature", says the Katha Upanishad.

  • Baba turned to the gentleman and said - "Well sir, there is in your pocket the Brahma (or Mammon) in the form of fifty-times five(Rs.250/-) rupees; please take that out." The gentleman took out from his pocket the bundle of currency notes, and to his great surprise found, on counting them, that there were 25 notes of 10 rupees each, Seeing this ominiscience of Baba, he was moved and fell at Baba's Feet and craved for His blessings. Then Baba said to him, "Roll up your bundle of Brahma viz. Currency notes. Unless you get rid completely of your avarice or greed, your will not get the real Brahma. How can be, whose mind is engrossed in wealth, progeny and prosperity, expect to know the Brahma, without removing away his attachment for the same? The illusion of attachment or the love for money is a deep eddy (whirlpool) of pain full of crocodiles in the form of conceit and jealousy. He, who is desireless, can alone cross this whirlpool. Greed and Brahma are as poles asunder, they are eternally opposed to each other

Where there is greed, there is no room for thought or meditation of the Brahma. Then how can a greedy man get dispassion and salvation? For a greedy man there is no peace, neither contentment, nor certainty (steadiness). If there be even a little trace of greed in mind, all the Sadhanas (spiritual endeavors) are of no avail. Even the knowledge of a well-read man, who is not free from the desire of the fruit or reward of his actions, and who has got no disgust for the same, is useless and can't help him in getting self-realization. The teachings of a Guru are of no use to a man, who is full of egoism, and who always thinks about the sense-objects. Purification of mind is absolutely necessary; without it, all our spiritual endeavors are nothing, but useless show and pomp. It is, therefore, better for one to take only what he can digest and assimilate. My treasury is full, and I can give anyone, what he wants, but I have to see whether he is qualified to receive what I give. If you listen to Me carefully, you will be certainly benefited. Sitting in this Masjid, I never speak any untruth."

When a guest is invited to a house, all the members of the household and other friends and relations that happen to be present, are entertained, along with the guest. So all those that were present in the Masjid at this time, could partake of the spiritual feast, that was served by Baba for the rich gentleman. After getting Baba's blessings, one and all, including the gentleman left the place quite happy and contented.

    ।। श्री सद्रगुरु साईनाथार्पणमस्तु । शुभं भवतु ।।

  • OMSAIRAM!Sukh Ke Sab Saathi Dukh Mein Sai....
