Some days ago I found that some jam was missing from a yet unopened (or so I thought) container in the kitchen. Someone had carefully removed part of the seal, a portion of the jam had been neatly removed with a knife probably and the seal had been replaced to look almost as good as new. Since we have 3 maids coming & going at different times, it was difficult to pin down the culprit. I mentally cursed human nature and the culprit whoever she may be. Things had gone missing before and I was generally upset at having a petty thief in our midst.
Few days later Sai ever so gently taught me a lesson I will never forget. One of our maids mentioned that she had lost her mangalsutra worth around Rs.40000 at home. She had searched everywhere but it was not to be found. Maybe it had been stolen she said and she added ‘Lene wale ka bhi bhala ho’. This struck me immediately and I felt so ashamed. Here was a woman who could ill afford to lose something so valuable and yet she was being so magnanimous. And in contrast here was I getting worked up over something so trival.
I apologise to you my father, dear Sai. Hence forth I will keenly watch my thoughts and words. I have now resolved to go through each day without saying an unkind word to anyone and to consciously steer away from unkind thoughts. Hopefully with some practice they should stop bothering my mind.
Thank you for this lesson dear Baba.
