Om Sri Sainathaya Namaha
Dear All
Excerpt from SSC:
Once it so happened that a devotee by name Pant, a disciple of another Sad-guru had the good fortune of visiting Shirdi. He had no mind to go to Shirdi, but man proposes one way and God disposes the other. He was travelling in a B.B. & C.I. Rly. train where he met many friends and relations bound for Shirdi. They all asked him to accompany them and he could not say nay. They alighted at Bombay while pant got down at Virar. There he took the permission of his Sadguru for the Shirdi trip and after arranging for the expenses, left with the party for Shirdi. They all reached the place in the morning and went to the Masjid at about 11 A.M. Seeing the concourse of the devotees assembled for Baba's worship, they were all pleased, but Pant suddenly got a fit and fell senseless. They were all frightened, still they tried their best to bring him to his senses. With Baba's grace and with pitchers of water which they poured over his head, he regained his consciousness and sat upright as if he was just awakened from sleep. The omniscient Baba knowing that he was a disciple of another Guru, assured him fearlessness and confirmed his faith in his own Guru, by addressing him as follows :- "Come what may, leave not, but stick to your Bolster (support, i.e. Guru) and ever remain steady, always at-one-ment (in union) with him." Pant at once knew the significance of this remark and thus he was reminded of his Sad-guru. This kindness of Baba he never forgot in his life.
Now the questions are :
Who was the guru of Mr. Pant ?
Was he a better / great or superior guru than our Lord Sai?
Or since our Lord Sai himself has approved him, is a good Guru?
Now I know, the above questions are really foolish and trivial. But again, these or various forms of these questions arise in our minds. Long ago, once when I was trying to extol christianity, one Guru asked me what do you know about Hinduism that you compare it with Christianity. Yes ! when we compare, we need to know the merits and demerits of all involved. But when it comes to religion or spirituality, a life time is not enough. Is it really possible to fathom the christianity or completely understand hinduism ? No neither is possible. Each are superior.
So are Gurus.
There is a small story. A devotee goes to a guru and asks for darshan of God. The Guru asks him to wait. So on the devotee goes and asks every day. One day the Guru gets exasperated and asks the devotee to go into the jungle where he can see God. The devotee with implicit faith in his guru's words, goes into the jungle and gets to see God. He comes back, falls at his guru's feet and expresses his happiness. Now, it is the turn of the guru to be surprised. He claims, that how could his devotee be blessed such, when the guru himself had never seen God.
The morale is the Guru might be anything : A fake, an imposter, a person with little knowledge. But if the disciple has Sradha and Saburi even the imposter's words can work wonders. That's what Guru charitra is all about and that is Guru parampara. With faith, even stone can work miracles.
So what is the point in discussing about Sathya Sai Baba or any one else. What is important is how good and strong our faith is.
How could it be that when a few of us in the satsang could see the white dhoti and some could not. Who has benefited more : The one who has seen or those who were with completely closed eyes ?
And as to the Superset and subset in spirituality, I beg to differ with Saidasanji. Dear Srikant, the Superset and subset cannot be really applied to this area. If baba is a superset then what about the Shakti, the Trimurthis. And if they are the superset then what about our Lord Sai. Again, if we take only the gurus, then what about Sri Datta, Sri Narasimha Saraswatiji. If they can be termed as one and hence as a single superset, then what about the identity and individuality ? And when we consider ourselves as part of our lord, then are we not the same supersets. And how could there be so many supersets. So accepting again that all of us are a part of the Lord and hence we are sub sets (or supersets) then why discriminate Shri Sathya Sai Baba ?
The bible (correct me if I am wrong and forgive me) says Satan was the best disciple of the Lord. Even Upasani Baba was a good disciple of the Lord Sai.
My only question, are we really qualified to rake up this issue ? Why complicate and confuse ourselves with such controversial topics.
I have read that a great disciple of Lord Sai when confronted about Shri Sathya Sai baba replied as follows
(this is actually a foreword of Mr. Bhattam Sriramamurthy, Former MP to LS. The foreword to the book Divine Miracles of Shri Shirdi Sai baba , A record of thrilling experiences of Late Dr. P.S. Ramasami reproduced here for the benefit of all)
"After I came into the fold of the global movement of Bhagawan Sri Satya Saibaba, I had an occasion to interact with Dr. Swami once. When I earnestly anticipated to elicit his understanding and views on the contemporary phenomena of Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai baba, i still remember vividly the ringing words of Dr. Swami --- " M. Ramu, I am like an orthodox Hindu Woman who knows only one husband and no one else. I am wedded to Sri Shirdi Baba and I lov and serve Him so intensely and enormously that I cannot spare myself for any other thought." --- "
With this immediate above experience of an ardent disciple and the words "Stick to your bolster " from the Great Lord Sai's mouth, what else is necessary.
And dear friends, let me again quote my previous words (else where in the forum): blind faith is possible where the illogical seems logical. There is no logic or analysis possible in spirituality. Unlearning of our knowledge is a must.
I request your opinions and corrections in all humbleness.
Thanks for the patience.
