  •  When I remember the day of 22nd January 1987, I afflict with fear. If Baba did not favour, I would have to live in the darkened world.

As usual I was busy with the typing-work. My eyes were turning from the script to the paper on the typewriter..... and within few minutes my right eye started paining. I thought insertion of some minor foreign body in the eye and neglected. But, as the time passed on, the pain increased. Due to this pain, I lost my concentration and attention. Two more days passed. The pain increased day by day. I felt the seriousness and thought to consult the doctor. Thus, I visited the doctor on 25th January. Doctor gave me tablets and medicament, which proved useless. Not the less from that day, I was more harassed by constant headache and frequent vomiting. I rushed to the doctor. “The pains may continue for eight days and then you will feel better,” the doctor assured me. I felt that everything would be all right as the doctor told, and returned home. From 26th January onward my ill-fate started. On that day I lost the sight of my right eye. On very next day, the sight of the left eye also became less. Subsequently I ran to the doctor. He then felt something serious. He advised me to go to Pune and consult the doctor in Ruby Hall Clinic or Sasoon. On 28th, I went to Sasoon. The doctors there asked me the history. I explained in detail. Various tests were done and injections and tablets were tried. The eye specialist examined me thoroughly. My friend Dr. Avinash Nagpure (He was studying M.B.B.S. last year) advised me to bear the trouble. At that time he was the only support for me. “It is improbable to regain the sight in such cases,” the doctor whispered. I heard his words and lost my all the inner strength. I was terribly frightened, seeing blind future with my blind eyes. At the same time I heard the doctor saying, “By the mercy of God the sight may be regained”. It gave me light of hope. I have faith in Baba, Baba’s teaching of ‘Shraddha’ and ‘Saburi’. I regained the strength with this thought.

Specially to note, when I started for Pune on 28th morning, went to Baba’s Samadhi temple and prayed Baba, “I am going to Pune with my half eye instead of two..... Please bring me here with both the eyes or finish my life there only”. Praying like this I started applying Udi to the eyes everyday. At that time my father, mother, brothers, sisters, Dr. Nagpure, Mr. Ratilalji Lodha, Mr. Sadashiv Gorade and Mr. Kailas Gaikwad gave me the courage. I am grateful to them.

From the first Thursday of February I could see little with my left eye. My mind and eyes flourished like a flower. There was progress in the sight and my happiness had no bounds. Next Thursday I could see clearly with my both eyes. I could see my beloveds and every happening around me ! I could see every thing. My sight reburied !

I was discharged after 15 days and was told to have check-up every fortnight. I returned Shirdi with satisfaction. Baba listened my prayer. My eyes were full of tears and the joy. I washed Baba’s ‘Charan’ with my tears. After 15 days eyes were clear. I successfully came out of bad dream.

Mean while there was a Charitable Eye Camp at Shri Sainath Hospital, Shirdi. Foreign eye specialist had come to attend the patients. I got my eyes checked by them. I told them detail history. Showed them all papers. They listened me and saw the record. They told me, “We will give you more effective medicine. Try it every day and you will never suffer”. I was very happy and enquired about medicine. They told me “APPLY BABA’S UDI TO YOUR EYES EVERY DAY..... YOU GOT CURED BY THE BLESSINGS OF SADGURU SHRI SAI BABA”.

  • Baba cured the paralysis of the wife of Shri Pettugala Narasimhulu Chettiar, No. 8, Chinnathamli Mudali Street, G.T., CHENNAI.....

My wife and myself are Sai devotees as well as Harnath devotees. A month ago, we were at Nellore where  we sang songs and the namavali of both these saints. When we returned to Chennai, we continued with Harnath bhajans, omitting Sai songs and Sai namavali. We merely did aarati to His picture along with Harnath’s.

My wife fell ill on 21-1-1939 and had a serious attack of rheumatism or something like a paralytic seizure. Her limbs could not move. My wife said to herself that this was a punishment for slighting Baba’s songs and namavali, i.e. omitting them. Later, she had a dream, where she found herself running in a garden of Nellore (where we did bhajans) and found that two Muslim boys were chasing her. Just then she remembered Harnath and prayed to Him for help. One of the pursuers disappeared. Now, only one boy chased, and he too began to chuckle with laughter saying “Am I not Sai ? How is it that you have forgotten Me ?” He added, “Your illness will be cured. Give Me Rs. 40/-.” She woke up and told Me of her dream. We resolved to follow Baba’s advice. Half an hour after the dream, her legs, which had lost all power of movement or support during her illness, recovered strength and became quite normal.

In the morning she became alright.

Since that day we are having regular Sai pooja and bhajans in our house.

  • Baba gave a warning to Dr. Ramaswamy Iyengar, Narayan Mudaliar Street, CHENNAI, for violation of his vow.....

Having heard of the greatness of Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi, I went along with Raosaheb Subbaiah Chettiar and reached Shirdi on 27-4-1938. On the way I considered that Shirdi being as sacred a shrine as Kashi or Rameshwar, I should mark the visit and render it fruitful by a vow of solemn abstinence from using betel leaves and areca nut (pan-supari). I finally resolved that from the time I leave Shirdi I would not chew betel. This was a great sacrifice as chewing betel was a childhood habit. Ever since I was a boy, I would chew betel several times every day.

I left Shirdi in a bullock-cart along with Shri Chettiar on the morning of 28-4-1938. As we were seated in the cart, Shri Chettiar chewed betel and the temptation to do the same overpowered me. I thought I must postpone my vow of abstinence and begin only after I reach Chennai. So, I took my betel-nut basket and merrily chewed away. As soon as I started chewing I found that my tongue pricked. The lime smear (chuna) coating on the betel leaf sometimes pricks the tongue of inexperienced novices in chewing. But, my tongue, which was used to chewing pan for decades had become quite deadened and thick. So, the pricking was a surprise. However, I did not mind it and had a hearty chew. In half an hour, I noticed the state of my tongue and mouth. The entire interior of the mouth including the tongue got inflammed, an unprecedented phenomenon in my 40 years history of pan-chewing. Thereafter, chewing not only betelnut but anything solid (even bland food) was out of the question.

For 18 days, I was compelled to abstain from betel as well as all forms of solid food due to the state of my mouth. I had to survive on milk.

Looking at Shri Chettiar’s state made me wonder even more. He had chewed the same betel, using the same chuna, but he did not suffer any inflammation or any other trouble. But then, he had not made a vow to give up betel chewing as I did !

About an hour after my chewing experience, I had another. My chewing paraphernalia consisted of a small basket for the betel leaves and areca nuts and a silver crucible containing lime (chuna). As I went to purchase some betel and other articles from Rahata Bazaar, I left it near Shri Chettiar. After I returned within a few minutes, I looked for my betel basket, but lo ! It was missing, as was the crucible. No thief could have come there as the articles were very close to Shri Chettiar. In spite of repeated search, the articles could not be found.

Both the above incidents showed me that Baba is a living force. He is a Kind Father guarding His children – the devotees and even raw recruits like me, with affection yet strict watchfulness. He promptly punishes and checks any flagrant violation of vows solemnly made to Him, and arranges the circumstances and environment of His children as to make further disobedience on their part impossible, in their own interest.

I have been taught a severe lesson and from the above date, I have never again violated my vow. Baba thus gave me increased faith in Him and strength of mind to carry out the vows I make. Before the visit I had hearsay information of Baba’s greatness and kindness which had made a feeble impression on my mind. But, with actual experience conferred on me, the impression I have of Baba is vivid and powerful and will last a life time. I now concentrate my japa and meditation on Baba alone.

  • Baba cured the swollen leg of Smt. Ahalya Krishnaji Uparkar, MUMBAI.....

In August 1963, Smt. Ahalyabai was struck by a nail in her leg and it bled. She left it uncared for, as there was no pain. On 24th August  1963, she suffered from fever as the wound turned septic.

Her sons requested her to take treatment from a doctor; but she did not agree.

After this, Baba manifested as a stranger and promised her medicine for her leg. In front of her house was a military depot. He went inside the depot and with their permission got the medicine and asked her to apply on the afflicted part. She did as told. No sooner was the medicine applied, the swelling lessened and the pain also decreased.

One night, in her dream, a nurse came and injected her. On another night Baba appeared in her dream and told her that a hole would be made in the affected part and then the wound would heal and the leg would become normal with no pain.

One day while she was sleeping, a rat came and broadened the wound with a big hole, thereby letting all the pus and worms flow out. She awakened her son and showed him how Baba had managed to cure her leg. After some days her leg was completely cured by applying Baba’s udi.

  • Baba retained His Abhishek Tirtham in a tin with a hole at the bottom, for days together. An esteemed judicial officer wrote to His Holiness B. V. Narasimhaswamy, Founder President of All India Sai Samaj, Mylapore, CHENNAI on 25-2-1940.....

My wife is better and I trust it is due to Shri Baba’s grace. You will be surprised to hear the following incident. You will remember that when you were here, you wrote to the Sansthan to send me a tin of Abhishek Tirtham for the use of my wife. It was duly received within a few days after you left and a portion of it was used everyday for pouring on my wife’s head. After some time this was stopped. But the tin containing Abhishek Tirtham was kept on the table for a number of months. Last month it was removed to the almirah and kept there.

Yesterday, when my second daughter, thinking that it was a tin of oil, took it and found something trickling out. When she turned it, she found a hole big enough for the little finger to pass and some quantity of water came out. She then poured the entire contents into a vessel. It was surprising that the tin which was nearly 3/4 full of Tirtham could have retained water intact all these days though there was a big hole at the bottom. Surprisingly,

the water was good and clear without any kind of smell and as tasty as it was originally. It created a good impression on the children and I had the entire contents poured onto my wife’s head this morning. I am writing this after I came to know about it.

Evidently, the incident about the Tirtham is to infuse faith. Otherwise I fail to see why there could have been a hole at the bottom of the tin which was received intact and nobody interfered with it. It was merely kept on a marble table for some time and then in a wooden almirah.

  • BABA MADE A LITTLE GIRL, WHO HAD BECOME DUMB BECAUSE OF A CAR ACCIDENT, SPEAK WITH THE USE OF HIS UDI.....

The little daughter of a devotee from Andheri (Mumbai) was run over by a motor-car. She was saved; but was injured and took a fortnight to recover in the hospital. Though the hospital treatment restored her health, the power of speech lost due to the accident was not regained. She remained unable to speak in spite of several remedies, medicines etc. which were tried, but were ineffective.

Ultimately, Baba’s Udi was tried, and she started speaking, as soon as she took its very first dose.

Everyone was startled to see the powers of Baba’s Udi.

  • Baba cured Typhoid Fever of the eldest daughter of Shri Ramchandra Amritrao Deshmukh of Shirdi and made him have faith in Him by his other miracles.....

I was not accustomed to go to Baba’s Mandir even though I resided in Shirdi.

My eldest daughter fell ill with typhoid in 1961. She was admitted in the dispensary (now called Sainath Chhaya guest house). The fever did not abate even after medical treatment in the dispensary.

My wife gave her Baba’s Tirtha daily, morning and evening. Even though she was given treatment for 45 days in the dispensary, there was no improvement and she was not fully cured. Vexed with the treatment, we took her home in the same state, as we had admitted her.

Relying entirely on Baba’s Tirtha, my wife administered it twice daily by mixing it with Baba’s Udi and without using any other medicine. I told my wife that where even medicine had proved futile, what would Baba’s Tirtha and Udi do ?

Three days after being discharged from the dispensary, my daughter became alright and started to eat. She became hale and hearty within a month.

My wife compelled me to believe that Baba’s Udi and Tirtha alone had cured my daughter and no other medicine could do the same.

My mother had seen Sai Baba. She used to attend each and every Aarati and took Baba’s Udi and Tirtha daily.

One day, in 1961, at around 4 a.m., while going to answer nature’s call, she accidentally fell into the well by the side of our house. No one noticed. At about 5 a.m., those who came to draw water from the well saw her and took her out. The depth of the water was 48’ deep. She was fully drenched in the cold water, where she had remained for about an hour in her old age. After taking her out, two doctors examined her and immediately they said that her survival depended on Baba’s blessings, as her body was severely cold. Even though she fell from a height of 48’, not even a wound was found on her body by Baba’s grace. Doctors were full of amazement as to how the old lady escaped without hurt and thrived after being severely cold, which was all due to the wonderful Leela of the almighty Shri Sai Baba.

After ascertaining that Baba alone had saved my eldest daughter from typhoid and my old, aged mother from her mishap, I got full faith in Baba and began to worship Him.

I began a daily ‘Parayan’ of at least one chapter of Baba’s Satcharita in Marathi every evening.

As soon as I began to read, a very big frog used to come and remain by my side till my reading was over. This went on till the ‘Parayan’ of Baba’s Satcharita was complete. The day after my ‘Parayan’ was completed, it never came again. Not only our family members, but those who visited us also saw this. We all decided that it was Sai Himself Who came in disguise to listen to my ‘Parayan’ in order to strengthen my faith in Him.

Later, there was a big problem of my eldest daughter’s marriage. I decided that, whatever by my position, I would perform her marriage in 1974 at any cost. At that time, I fell ill and was in no financial position to perform her marriage. I heartily prayed to Baba, “O Baba, even though I had no faith in You in the beginning, You Yourself relieved my family problems. Now, I pray from the bottom of my heart to fulfil my eldest daughter’s marriage and cure me of my illness.” Baba heard my prayer.

One fine morning in Jan. 1975, my eldest brother came along with the bridegroom’s parents to my house for talks and we settled the marriage on 18.5.1975. The wedding was performed in a simple and fit manner in Baba’s Mangal Karyalaya. We prepared food for 500 people – more than our expectation. Unexpectedly 800 people came. If we did not feed them, our family honour was at stake. There were no ways and means forthcoming to me to resolve this problem.

With complete faith in Baba, I hurried to Baba’s Dwarkamai, prayed with all my heart, asking Baba to save my family honour, took Udi and returned to the Mangal Karyalaya. I put Baba’s Udi in all the vessels containing food and began to serve the guests. To the amazement of all, not only 800 people were fed, but food for almost 200 people remained.

The omnipotent Baba by His Leela thus magnanimously saved the honour of my family.

  • Baba cured the paralysis of the daughter of a close friend of Shri Y. Nagarjun Rao of Hyderabad.....

It was in the year 1970 that I happened to visit Mumbai on some personal work. As it was my first visit, I went sight-seeing to several places in and around Mumbai. Suddenly, I felt that I should go to Shirdi and visit the Mahasamadhi of Shri Sai Baba, more out of curiosity than devotion. But, the visit had to be put off because of my brother-in-law’s arrival from the United States.

I was very much disappointed and silently prayed to Baba that if He were God, He should bless me with an opportunity to go to Shirdi. Meanwhile, a very interesting thing happened. We received a cable that my brother-in-law’s scheduled arrival was postponed on account of his prolonged stay en route. Thus the seeds of faith were sown in my heart by the unexpected accomplishment of my desire.

I immediately searched for a person who could help me with the details of the pilgrimage. When I was going from Andheri to Dadar by local train, I surprisingly came across a devotee of Shri Sai Baba, who guided me with minute details. Thus my very first visit to the shrine proved to be a pre-planned sankalpa of Baba Himself to draw me towards Him.

After taking a bath, I went for Darshan, which made me extremely happy. For a moment there appeared nothing but Sai Baba in everything in Shirdi. I prayed to Baba that He should help me with His grace and give me solace and comfort throughout my life. I happened to make a study of the several books available in Shirdi which gives one the feeling that Baba is not merely a superhuman form but omnipotent God Himself. Since then, my faith in Baba steadily increased.

Once, one of my close friends was blessed with a daughter. Unfortunately, she had an attack of paralysis, and as a result of this, she was unable to move her hand. My friend felt unhappy, as the treatment did not produce the required result. He had lost all hopes of her recovery and felt dejected.

I gave him a little Vibhuti (Udi) which I had brought from Shirdi and asked him to apply it to the affected hand with complete faith in Baba’s mercy.

Though he was personally not a believer in Shri Sai Baba, he consented to do it on my persistance. He told me that he would worship Baba as God if the Vibhuti helped the recovery of the child in any way.

After the application of Vibhuti, there was a tremendous improvement and very soon the baby recovered, responding to the medical treatment very well. This in itself was a big surprise to the physician, as he himself was not quite confident about the outcome of his trial.

The grateful father of the child has become an ardent devotee of Shri Sai Baba. Such is the kindness of Shri Sai Baba Who responds to the call of humanity, if only the person looks to Him.

  • BABA CURED THE STOMACHACHE OF MS. SHYAMALA, DAUGHTER OF K. THAPERUMAL CHETTY, STUDYING IN MONTESSORI SCHOOL, G. T. CHENNAI.....

I was studying in the Montessori School for 2 years. I knew Baba, I used to hear His words. I also read His books. I read one chapter a day. Shri Narasimhaswamy came to our house. He always chanted the name “Baba”, “Baba”, “Baba”. After he came, my uncle made a contribution to Shri Sai Leela.

My uncle, Raosaheb Papaiah Chettiar wrote to me about Baba. “Baba is Krishna and Krishna is Baba. Baba is good and nice. Baba helps uncle to keep good health.”

Last year, I put my hand on my aunt’s dressing  table. Suddenly, a lid fell and crushed my hand. I cried. Uncle said, “Think of Baba.” I said, “Baba ! Baba !” In 15 minutes there was no pain and I was alright.

Last year, our teacher, Miss Manuel arranged for a bus and told us girls to get in. We all went to the Aquarium. Suddenly, there was thunder and lightening. All the girls got scared. Only I cried, “Baba ! Baba !” I told the girls to say “Sai ! Sai !” and everyone started chanting. Slowly, they became bold and lost fear of the thunder and lightening. After returning to school I told the girls, “Sai Baba is a Mahatma. He gives us everything.”

Later, I had a stomachache and was sick. I could not vomit. I went to my uncle and asked for Baba’s Udi. He gave me some medicines; but to no avail. Then, he came and put Udi in my mouth. I became alright in a minute. I got up. No pain, no sickness. I told my uncle, “See the Udi has made me alright !”

Sometimes, I spend the day at my uncle’s house and sometimes at my grandmother’s. There are many girls there. I always tell them about Baba. I say, “Think of Baba before sleeping.” They do so.

My grandmother (father’s mother) died. I felt sorry and so I wept. Then, I saw Baba in the evening sky. He said, “Do not cry. I have taken your grandmother. She is very happy. Do not be afraid.”

  • baba cured the diarrhoea of the child of shri t. aruMugam, pillari, teacher, muthialpet high school, 97 thambu chetty street, CHENNAI and fulfilled his other dESIRes.....

My nine month old child had an attack of diarrhoea and the discharges were of a peculiar red colour, causing us much anxiety. A similar attack, four months ago, while the child was at Chittoor was cured by the D.M.S.C. after much trouble.

I feared more trouble this time also and wished to go to Chittoor for treatment. But, my wife prayed to Baba, put His Udi into the milk and gave it to the child in the morning. That very day, the diarrhoea was cured.

About 50 days ago, I was desirous of getting a pair of silver ‘jyoti’ lights to be lit before Baba for worship. I had Rs. 5/- with me and went to buy them in a silver shop. The salesman in the shop told me that the minimum price he could charge me for a pair was Rs. 7/-. Giving up hope of getting a pair of silver lamps I was about to leave the shop. Suddenly, another salesman, whose son had once been my student, called me and asked me of my requirement. He then presented me with a pair of silver ‘jyotis’ and refused to accept any price for the same. It was Baba’s way of helping me to carry on my worship of His picture in the desired manner.

Baba’s help to me in my financial crisis was also noteworthy. My private tuitions’ income was Rs. 25/-. It was the same amount I paid for my rental premises monthly. Suddenly, the tuition was stopped in April last and I would have to vacate the place. It was not easy to find another convenient place.

When I was worried about this and thinking of  vacating the place, the head clerk of my school suggested that I might continue to occupy one half of my premises and give the other half on rent. The idea was quite new to me; but was excellent. But, the problem was, where would we find a vegetarian co-tenant ? (Myself and my wife are strict vegetarians.)

A few hours later, a newly wedded couple, strictly vegetarian, were badly in need of such quarters and asked my friend, the head clerk, to help them. He introduced them to me. There was a legal difficulty; as the land-lord’s permission would be needed to sub-lease. My wife cast lots before Baba Who ordered the sub-lease. The land-lord too agreed. At the same time, the same pupil wanted tuitions and my income was restored.

Recently, I was at Chittoor and wished to take the bus leaving at night to proceed to Chennai. It was around midnight, when I approached the bus. It was all dark. There was nobody around as far as I could see. I got onto a seat to rest awhile. Presently a drunken man came in with insulting words. I told him, I would talk to him, when he regained sobriety in the morning. The man fulminated abuse and threats and then seized an iron handle (used for starting a car). He heaved it high and threatened to kill me. He was about to bring it down on my head, when feeling helpless I shouted,“Baba !”

The driver suddenly jumped up (evidently from his sleep, by the noise), seized the handle, and my life was saved by Baba’s grace. My faith in Baba became firmer by this instance of His protecting me.

  • Baba fulfilled the wishes of Shri D. B. Potnis, 88, Juna Bazaar, Khadki, Poona.....

I used to serve under a doctor in Poona for Rs. 6/- per month. In December 1940, I wanted to give a job application in the Defence Department. I went walking, carrying my application.

After reaching a chowk, I was not aware of the way and asked a tongawalla. He was very old. Instead  of telling me the way, the old man asked me to sit in his tonga. I told him that since I had no money, I would prefer walking. But, he said that it was his own tonga and asked me to sit in it.

We reached the Military Defence Department. He took my application and presented it to the concerned officer on my behalf and went away.

A few days later I was called for an interview. Again I met the same old man on my way. He told me to purchase a particular nib for writing as they would test my hand-writing. As I had no money, he himself

purchased that particular nib with the pen-holder and gave it to me.

I went and gave my interview. They asked me to write a paragraph as foretold by the tongawalla. I joined duty in the Defence Accounts Department on 5-2-1944.

At that time I was also studying in Poona English School. On 14-5-1951, I accompanied the school boys on an excursion to Sinhagad. All the boys were exchanging the eatables purchased by them and they asked, what I had to give them. I was in a fix. Sitting empty handed under a mango tree. Suddenly, I noticed an empty match-box. I took it and opened it. To my surprise, there was a Rs. 10/- note in it. I gave it to my friends to purchase some eatables and distribute it amongst us. Thus my dignity was saved amongst my friends.

From Ahmednagar, I was transferred to Poolgaon in 1948. My four-year old daughter imagined seeing a serpent and wept continuously at midnight and afterwards every now and then, saying “serpent, serpent”. I did not know, what to do; as it was beyond medical reach.

My neighbour kept her in his house one day, to see if her fear and weeping would stop; but in vain. At first, I thought that, may be she mistook a spider for a serpent. Then, I put a ghee lamp before Baba’s photo and prayed with all my heart to Baba, performing Aarati and offering dhoop. After that her imaginary serpents vanished and her weeping stopped. She was able to move about and live freely without any trouble.

In 1949, I regularly read (1) Navnath Grantha (2) Guru Charitra and (3) Baba’s Satcharita. Once I began the ‘Parayan’ of Baba’s Satcharita and on the last day I performed Satyanarayan Pooja. I was reading the final (53rd) chapter of Baba’s Satcharita. In the Pooja mandap, a small mouse came and sat on a plantain leaf near the Pooja thali. It remained there until the ‘Parayan’ was complete and also for the Aarati. After the Aarati it went away on its own accord. We all thought that Baba Himself attended the Pooja in the guise of a mouse.

Thus Baba fulfilled my desires and continues doing so as answer to all my prayers.

I want to share my recent experience with everyone here. One very miraculous incident happened which made me to believe even stronger that Sai Baba is always there with us and that we should never forget his namasmarana. Recently we moved from Hyderabad to Calcutta. After reaching Calcutta, we took a cab to our home. While getting down we unloaded our baggage from the cab and paid the taxi driver. However, before entering the house, we found that one baggage was missing which belonged to my brother and he had all his electronic gadgets in it and also some very important documents along with his ID cards, FDRs, and cash! The bag was kept in the front seat beside the driver. We looked for the cab but the driver just fled away from the scene. We had no clue about the taxi number or the driver to track him. My brother was broken down and he could not just stop crying on the big loss. I too could not stop crying looking at my brother feeling bad. At that point, in time I was very annoyed with Sai Baba and went to my mandir and prayed to him that from today onwards I am not going to believe in Sai Baba until my brother gets back his lost baggage. My brother logged a police complaint but we know we are not going to get it that too in a city like Calcutta. Only a miracle can save us. No one is honest in today's world to give back the baggage with valuables. The next day we received a call from a police station that a driver has come and handed over a baggage and asked my brother to come and identify the baggage. To our surprise, it was our bag and it was just kept intact! This incident has made my faith in Sai Baba even stronger.

  • Shridhar Narayan Kharkar, aged 57, Kayasta Prabhu, Accountant, Secretariat, 37 Charni Road, Thana, Says:
My earliest period, that is infancy, was wellstocked and fed with religious ideas and ideals by the pious prudence of my grandfather. When I was thus developing the orthodox side of my religious study and practice, Mr.Appa Kulkarni, Deputy Collector, a very pious soul, showed me the picture of Sai Baba that he was devotedly attached to. That was my first contact with Baba. Very soon after that I got from Mr. Dabholkar a picture of Baba, a number of Sai Lila Masiks and a packet of Baba’s udhi that came on a day. I was unwell; and on the second day, I got alright and started my worship of Baba which steadily grew thenceforward. The beginning of my faith in Baba was marked by a remarkable dream or vision.
The picture I got from Mr. Dabholkar I took to my pooja room but when I was taking it near the picture of the Akkalkot Saint that I was already worshipping, some impulse made me withdraw the new picture. ‘Hallo! This is the Moslem’s picture. How could it be placed next to the holy Hindu saint?’ So thinking I kept it apart, a little distance from (and not in the same group with) Akkalkot Maharaj’s picture.
I had a dream that night. In the morning, I first forgot all about the dream but when I began to worship, I at once recalled the details of my night dream. In the dream, I saw a fakir robbed like Sai Baba coming
towards the oti or veranda on which I and some one else were sitting. I got up to welcome that fakir. Perhaps I was going to make some individuous distinction. At any rate to prevent such a distinction
being made, the person who was next to me told me this (Sai Baba) is not different from Akkalkot’ and I was directed to treat him on the same footing as Akkalkot Maharaj. Recalling the dream, I rearranged the pictures and placed Sai Baba’s picture along with Akkalkot Maharaj’s and worshipped him.

  • Shamrao Raoji Shrotrie, Kayasth Prabhu, aged 55, record keeper, District Court, Thana says:

I visited Sai Baba at Shirdi only once. That was about 1909. When I went and bowed to Sai Baba, I sat in his presence and then a particular question cropped up in my mind. Baba told me to go to a Bai, saying that she was in the temple reading Puran. I went up and found an elderly (Brahmin) lady of about 50 years reading puran. I sat and listened. Therein what she read to me was the answer to what
cropped up in my mind when I was in Baba’s presence. This was Baba’s way of giving me a solution.
